The Yearning For Rest

laitman_564Baal HaSulam, “Matan Torah” (The Giving of the Torah): Now here opens before us a door to understand the source of all the pleasures and pains in our world. Since the Creator is the root of His creations, we feel all that exists in Him and extends to us directly from Him as pleasant and delightful, because our nature is close to our root. And everything that is not in Him, and does not extend to us directly from Him, but contradicts Creation itself, will be against our nature and difficult for us to tolerate.
Thus, we love to rest and hate to move so much, that we do not make a single movement if not for the attainment of rest. That is because our root is immobile but at rest, and no motion exists in Him whatsoever. Therefore, it is against our nature and loathsome to us. By the same token, we love wisdom, strength, and wealth, etc. because all those exist in Him who is our root.
Anyone whose nature is the desire to receive yearns for pleasure. Pleasure is attained only when there is a desire as well as the filling of that desire. If I want something and I don’t have it, I suffer. If I receive what I want, I enjoy.
A state of pleasure is called rest since I do not need anything anymore; I have want I wanted. This is the reason that all of nature aspires for rest, for one unified straight motion, which means as unchanging as possible. This means that I am in a comfortable state. Our desire itself creates such rules of behavior for itself.
If the desire feels a deficiency, it is forced to move according to the deficiency and attain what it lacks. We can see that on all levels of nature.
The uniqueness of our evolution is that we have to change ourselves in order to want to resemble the Creator, which is against our original nature, and to act in order to attain this goal by implementing a special method called the wisdom of Kabbalah.
We cannot receive the energy to perform our actions by ourselves because the oppositeness of our nature cannot fill us in any way. The only thing we can do is to ask the Creator to help us to change ourselves, which means to change our intention to receive to the intention to bestow.
This change takes place as a result of the impact of the upper Light, which comes and affects us and invokes changes in us, making us want to resemble the Creator. But, at the same time, we cannot say which actions the Light performs on us.
We gradually begin to perceive these actions that have attributes of the upper system or the upper Light and can perform these changes in us: instead of thinking about myself, I begin to think about others. This is what the upper Light pushes us toward. We will have to change whether we like it or not.
Today, we see how the world gradually changes and how life becomes so hard to understand, so noisy, and so egoistic. Humanity feels that something is happening to it and that it has to change somehow but it does not understand what is going on. Families are breaking up, there are serious global changes, etc.
All this is happening in order to force us to want to change our attitude to the world, to convince us that we cannot exist in the world within the attribute of receiving anymore because we can only be filled and discover a good way to live through the attribute of bestowal.
All this indicates that the time has come for the wisdom of Kabbalah to be revealed and to become more popular and more accessible because it is actually this wisdom that explains how to do that in an easy, simple, and pleasant way.
Comment: The word “rest” is usually associated with peacefulness, with slow-motion actions, or with motionlessness.
Answer: This is not true. Even according to physics and other exact sciences we know that unchanging motion in the speed of light is a state of rest. Therefore, it is not about our state but about the lack of change in the state; if you do not yearn for anything, you are satisfied.

A Loved One’s Death

laitman_766.7Question from Facebook: What is the reason for the pain that we feel when a loved one dies?
Answer: The pain from the death of a loved one is purely egoistic pain, like any other pain of ours. We feel that we are no longer getting something that we wanted and could have received or had already received from him in the past.
Even when we miss another person and supposedly weep for him, we are actually mourning for ourselves. Only for yourself! “Why has he disappeared from me and I can no longer enjoy him, his presence, his companionship?”
Question: What is the sensation of pain from loss of a relative for someone who is found on a spiritual level?
Answer: There are no losses on a spiritual level! There is only acquisition, elevation from level to level.
Question: You were very connected to your teacher, Rabash. How did you feel when he died?
Answer: I was not sorry and didn’t cry, but there were other students of his by my side who cried bitterly.
Question: Was he like a father for you?
Answer: He was the closest person to me, but I felt that his transcendence was happening and there is no loss in that. He himself decided to go like that and I felt this a few days before then, even though he absolutely didn’t show any signs. He suddenly had a heart attack and that was it.
Comment: There is a Jewish prayer for the dead, “Kaddish.”
Answer: This is not a prayer for the dead, in this prayer we praise the Creator: “Magnified and sanctified is His great name!” There are no tears and crying! Not even the name of someone who died is mentioned, that someone has been cut off from me, disappeared from my field of vision and is gone, that he has ascended to the Creator. There is none of that! Rather only: “Magnified and sanctified is His great name!”
Question: Is this the approach to pain about those who died?
Answer: A blessing for the Creator is the most correct approach. We need to move from feeling our world through the physical body, to feeling the spiritual world through the soul. We will then understand the truth and it will seem that nobody has died, that nothing has been lost, that we are all together; we only need to attain this mutual feeling.

Kabbalah—The Science Of The Upper System Of Governance

laitman_214.jpgQuestion: I am a chemistry scientist, and don’t understand how Kabbalah can be connected to science. It seems esoteric to me. Why do you say that Kabbalah is a science?
Answer: It really is difficult to understand because Kabbalah is not a science of this world. Everyone can study the science of this world without any internal change, since our inherent material qualities are sufficient for it.
Kabbalah is a science, but it studies the upper system that governs our world. Therefore, first of all we must understand the language in which it is written. Then we need to find out what is behind each word and each definition. Only then will we begin to penetrate deeply into this science and study it.
Obviously, the knowledge of chemistry or of some other material science won’t help. It may well be that the simplest person, who is far from science, will have a propensity for Kabbalah and a desire to study it, and a great scientist will understand nothing and won’t be able to approach it.
Question: What is this system that governs us?
Answer: The upper system is a network of forces that governs our entire life, the universe, and each of us. This is a huge, multifaceted network of forces that pervades the entire reality and binds together all of its elements.
Our universe is in a particular place that exists by itself, although we don’t feel it. And the stars, nebulae, and other cosmic objects are located inside this place. They all exist in a close connection with each other. Imagine what would happen if they all weren’t bound into one network, what chaos would reign in the universe.
Exploring the universe and nature in general, we find out that everything in it operates according to strict laws, as it is written, “The law is given and cannot be transgressed.” The wisdom of Kabbalah studies this entire reality, the network of forces, and most importantly, finds out for what purpose everything is created, in what form humanity and the universe in which we exist are developing.
Question: Are we part of this reality?
Answer: Of course, we exist on Earth that develops in a certain direction and fly in space thousands of kilometres every second along with our entire universe. The wisdom of Kabbalah speaks about this entire reality. Modern science is a part of Kabbalah and exists within certain limits that are set by a given nature of a person.
For example, Einstein discovered that by changing our angle of view at reality, we change it. Kabbalah goes even further by saying that if we change a person, his inner qualities, then the reality will change.
However, how is it possible to take a screwdriver and adjust something in a person in order to adjust him in a new way and to let him see the new reality, the new world, in his new qualities? The wisdom of Kabbalah allows us to do this!
Question: What do we need to change in ourselves for this?
Answer: We don’t need to change anything, all the changes are done by the force that is hidden in Kabbalah, the force of Light, the inner force of the whole reality that affects a person and changes him.

Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz
Summary
Why did our teacher Moses divide the people of Israel into tens, how did the ten authors of The Zohar attain spiritual advancement, and what does work in a group of ten symbolize in the study of the wisdom of Kabbalah? The society of the authors of The Zohar was ten; they reached connection and love on the highest level possible.

Why Is The Creator So Cruel?

Laitman_049.01Question: Why is the Creator so cruel?
Answer: I completely understand you. I would have thought that too, but the Creator is not cruel. When His loving attitude toward us is experienced in our egoism, it feels completely opposite to us.
I remember in childhood when my mother scolded me about low grades or something else. It caused her a great deal of anxiety and emotional distress, but she was expressing absolute kindness toward me even though I perceived it as cruelty.
The Creator is the altruistic quality of nature. But to the degree that we behave inversely compared to Him, we feel diametrically opposite to this kindness; that is, we feel bad, as though we are living in a bad world.
But He is not doing anything bad. He relates to us with complete benevolence, and we, relative to this, see ourselves and our world as completely evil. We do not need to blame Him or ourselves for this.
Question: But how does this kindness that comes from Him express itself as acts of violence in our world?
Answer: All this we do ourselves. People, with their egoism, make this world seem bad. The Creator gave us egoism and also gave us the possibility to correct it. He spurs us toward correction. We see what is happening in the world.
Comment: But He gives an ordinary person tremendous obstacles, creating terrible evil that is impossible to justify.
My Response: I completely agree. But when a person begins to become aware of everything that the Creator did for him, he stops blaming Him for anything. Then the opposite occurs and tremendous gratitude arises from within him.
But, for now, a person does not understand, similar to when he was a child and he did not understand why his parents were yelling at him.

You Will See The Future World In Your Lifetime

Laitman_198.jpgTorah, Deuteronomy 28:45: All these curses will befall you, pursuing you and overtaking you to destroy you because you did not obey the Lord, your God, to observe His commandments and statutes which He commanded you.
The person is being slowly annihilated until he comes to the realization that all that the Creator requires of him is the similarity to Him, that is, performing all the actions for the benefit of others, not for oneself.
Torah, Deuteronomy 28:46 – 28:47: And they will be as a sign and a wonder, upon you and your offspring, forever, because you did not serve the Lord, your God, with happiness and with gladness of heart, when [you had an] abundance of everything.
At one time, we were briefly given the state of “abundance of everything,” but we learned nothing from it. Egoism prevailed and the people of Israel fell from the level of bestowallove, and connection among them, plunged once again into an internecine war and this ended their history in the land of Israel.
The fall was terrible. People killed each other while fighting among themselves. Some were fighting for being spiritually pure and for doing everything only for the sake of bestowal and mutual love. Others did not understand them, believing that they simply steal from them by depriving them of a comfortable egoistic life. Therefore, the war was conducted at all levels, both spiritual and material.
The sages, seeing that the people could not keep the commandments in the way they were given in order to live in similarity to the Creator, gradually permitted them to perform them mechanically in the external form.
People began to believe that this was the realization of the Creator’s commandments. This is how the Judaism appeared that exists in this framework until now.
The wars gradually ceased, and the Jews received an opportunity to live in the state of exile and the simultaneous external mechanical keeping of the commandments, although, in fact, the commandments imply step-by-step correction of egoism in 613 of its particular desires up to the level of love your neighbor as yourself.
However, when the people transformed them into ordinary physical actions, then it became possible for every egoist who fell from the spiritual level to consider that by this he is fulfilling the Creator’s Commandments and can be called “the people of Israel.”
Let’s assume that ablution of the hands symbolizes purification of desires from the egoistic intention because hands represent a person’s desires. Dipping into the water means washing away all of egoism. Bestowing to others is exiting yourself. Yet people, by performing all this and sharing something with others, believe that they are doing noble deeds. That is, all the spiritual commandments turned into various actions of our world.
People began to believe that for this they were entitled to the future world after death. However, this is not so. It is written in the Torah, “You shall see your world in your lifetime.”
It means that if you follow the orders of the Torah correctly, then you immediately attain the upper world, where you act through your soul.
You perceive the new world through the correct inner feelings, that is, through the forces of bestowal and love and the general force that is called the Creator, which is revealed to you.

The Universe Is Within A Person

laitman_739Question: Why did the Creator create so many stars? Or is this only an illusion? What are the limits of the universe?
Answer: 60 years ago, when I was a student, I had learned that the universe is boundless, that it was not created, and, rather, that it had appeared a countless number of years ago and that time was also infinite.
Today, scientists have reached the conclusion that both the universe and time are limited, but this information is not useful to us at all; these are all kinds of hypotheses and nothing more. Suddenly, galaxies were discovered in relation to them; the space that we had discovered earlier has become like a small point and, therefore, involvement with research like this is absolutely useless.
Astronomers, cosmologists, and many other scientists are involved with mathematical calculations regarding the system of the universe, yet, in fact, they do not understand or know anything serious about this system.
Question: Why have more and more galaxies been discovered by people? How is this information useful?
Answer: The information gives us a feeling of desire that constantly expands and within which we feel the external world. In “Introduction to The Book of Zohar,” it is said that everything we feel outside of us is actually found within us. That is how it is arranged so that we will be able to understand the structure of the creation that is found within us.
I do not feel what is found within me. In contrast, everything that spreads out beyond me apparently “fell” out from me. Therefore, I can already discern it and learn from it because it is far from me and seems to exist without any connection to me. An illusion is created for me–that it is not mine–and, therefore, I can relate to it more objectively than if it were inside of me.
Question: Does the discovery of an infinite universe reflect the infinity that is discovered within me?
Answer: Certainly. My inner desire to grow reveals the seemingly expanding universe.
Question: Does this mean that a Kabbalist can look within himself and say, “This star is my desire”?
Answer: That is precisely accurate; it is exactly the way we talk about the sun, the moon, the Earth, and all the planets in the solar system. For example, a Kabbalist can discover a “moon” within himself, which is the characteristic of Binah, the characteristic of bestowal that illuminates through the Ohr Hozer (Reflected Light) from the sun. The sun is the characteristic of Keter, and the Earth is the characteristic of Malchut. We cannot determine these characteristics within us because everything is found outside of us so that we can determine and learn from them, but, in fact, we are learning about ourselves.
Question: What does this give a person? After all, people have been looking at the sun and the moon for thousands of years and were unable to determine that these celestial bodies embody the characteristics of bestowal and reception found within them.
Answer: They had no need for this knowledge and therefore they did not understand it, but if people begin to discover these characteristics within themselves, they will discern–through their connection with the objects of the solar and spatial system–that these objects actually embody a tremendous number of the desires found within them.
Question: This is saying that of the billions of stars, each one of them is a particular desire. Is there a name for every desire as there is for every star?
Answer: Yes. For example, the Hochma of Keter of Binah, etc. is a very long phrase that precisely determines the name of a particular desire.
Question: How does a Kabbalist discover these desires within himself and what does he do with them?
Answer: A Kabbalist needs to do only one thing with the desires: gather them together and attribute them to the Creator. He does not need to work with every separate desire. Our correction is very simple. I do not need to change myself or my desires but only my intention or how I use myself. Therefore, I do not pay attention to my desires; it is not important to me what they are. Rather, only my intention regarding the Creator is important and that depends upon the importance I attribute to the Creator within me. Therefore, the main thing is to develop the image of the Creator within my eyes.
Question: Which is to say that desires arise and float up by themselves and it is only up to me to relate to them with the right intention?
Answer: Yes, certainly. But this already depends on the group, on the study, and how ready you are for them arise and float up within you.

Newsmax: “Restoring Nature’s ‘Sanity’ Begins With Restoring Our Own Connections“

The largest portal Newsmax published my new article “Restoring Nature’s ‘Sanity’ Begins With Restoring Our Own Connections
While I am writing this, reports of hurricane Irma’s devastation are still pouring in. Clearly, nature has flipped. Scientists have been warning for years that global warming means stronger storms and increasingly frequent freak weather. But knowing this will happen and seeing it unfolding are two different things.
But this column is not about disasters. It is about hope and about taking action.
In my previous column, I wrote that our main problem is not natural disasters, but our alienation from each other. I suggested a practical way to create positive conversation and shared a link to a free download of my book Completing the Circle, which, among other things, offers connection games and ideas for conversations that help people connect.
A few days later, I learned that two young men, who happen to also be studying with me, initiated such a discussion with survivors of hurricane Harvey, and even filmed the conversation. If you want to have hope in the future of America, you owe it to yourself to watch the abbreviated documentation. These beautiful, intelligent young people did not know each other prior to that meeting, and judging by their appearances, chances are their paths would never have converged were it not for Harvey’s devastation. Yet, these millennials prove by their very conduct that solidarity throughout America is possible.
This horrific hurricane season will be over in a couple of months, and the fires in Western United States will be extinguished. If we put this menacing summer behind us and go on as before, we’ll have wasted a chance to make a real change.
One of the participants in the filmed discussion said, “The mindset that we have, everybody here sitting at this table, hopefully they pass it forward.” Another one added that when “there is only one goal, to help people, it restores my faith in humanity seeing everyone working together hand to hand … making connection that I believe wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for such a devastating situation, and it’s sad to say that. Hopefully, the media portrays that and shows that people can come together even without a time of need and that we’re not separated by belief, religion, or any of the other factors.”
Naturally, such isolated initiatives cannot change the face of the country. But this is nonetheless a proof of concept, which is why I’m sharing it here. The authorities can and should utilize people’s currently enhanced sensitivity and direct them toward seeing the power of connection.
After less than 45 minutes of discussion, the participants, who as I said, did not know each other prior to meeting, felt so close that they exchanged emails and phone numbers. If it’s that easy, given the right mode of discussion, why shouldn’t every American benefit from this?
In fact, human connection is more impactful than we think. In the early 1970s, renowned physicist Dennis Gabor said, “Till now man has been up against Nature; from now on he will be up against his own nature.” But instead of focusing on human nature, we are looking for ways to fix nature itself, and in doing so, we’re missing the whole point. Our own ill-will causes every problem in the world. Global warming, financial meltdowns that impoverish millions of people, war, famine, depression, substance abuse, inequality, and racism are all man-made disasters. If we fixed our ill-will, which causes all these crises, we wouldn’t have a worry in the world.
And the way to fix ill-will is by establishing positive human connections. This is why I am so adamant about discussions like the one I mention here.
There comes a time when you must look in the mirror and say, “I’m done blaming others for my problems; I have to take responsibility.” As a society, we are at that point. Now is our time to start “practicing” positivity toward each other. It is a conscious effort that may feel a little unnatural at first, but as we all know, practice makes perfect. And in this case, it takes very little practice to make huge progress, just look at that video.
If every person in your community attended just one or two such meetings a week, within a month the whole neighborhood would change. Going to the supermarket would mean going to see friends because you would know other shoppers, or you would know their friends, who would introduce you to their friends, and you would come home smiling. In such an atmosphere, it will be natural to care for one another and society will easily find its balance.
In such a caring space, the rest of our problems will sort themselves out, which will affect our entire environment, from human society all of nature. As it turns out, restoring nature’s sanity begins with our positive connections.

A Difficult Path To Awareness

Laitman_001.01Torah, Deuteronomy 28:51: They will devour the fruit of your livestock and the fruit of your soil, to destroy you. They will not leave over anything for you of the grain, wine, oil, offspring of your cattle or flocks of your sheep, until they annihilate you.
Gradually a person becomes exhausted and sees how egoism slowly kills him during his lifetime leaving nothing sacred: not family, children, or grandchildren. He loses connection with them and begins to feel that this is not his.
Egoism dominates him so much that he cannot accept anyone from his environment as more or less necessary or important. For the sake of his petty egoism, he is ready to sacrifice everything. And then egoism also puts him to death.
It is written about this: “They will not leave over anything for you of the grain, wine, oil, offspring of your cattle or flocks of your sheep, until they annihilate you.”
This is spiritual death. You eat yourself and do not know what to do. This is not a physical hunger, but you just feel to what extent you are becoming insensitive and distanced in relation to others, perceiving nothing and no one. And they look at you as if you are a monster.
We will endure many more such states, but eventually all of this will be accumulated in the egoism and will lead to its correction.
The most important thing is to realize all of this, otherwise there is no point. The Torah is given only for this. On the spiritual path, you clearly see that you are doing base, stupid things, and you even enjoy it, but you cannot help it.
This is the way to realize our nature in order to attain the nature of the Creator through it, which is the goal of our development.

How Real Is Our Reality?

laitman_766.8Question: You often talk about correcting the perception of reality. How should my perception of reality change and how will this affect my life?
Answer: When we study nature, we learn that different animals perceive reality in different ways. For example, a bee perceives reality in the form of a panorama with multiple fragments as if they were not connected with each other. Fish and birds have a completely unique perception of reality.
Right now, we are talking about sight, but there are animals that perceive the world through heat waves, like snakes. And dogs perceive the world mainly through smells, not through sight, like people. Therefore, it is obvious that everything is determined by the perception of reality.
It seems to us that we see reality as it is, but how do we know that this is true? In fact, we are just catching a few waves from an infinite number of other waves. If we could see in a different spectrum, we would see a completely different picture.
In essence, Kabbalah explains that the reality we see does not exist. If we would not hold onto today’s picture of reality and consider it unchangeable and objective but would rise above the limitations of the bodily organs of human perception, we would perceive reality outside our bodies. And then we could learn about a lot of phenomena around us that we do not see and do not notice yet.
But after all, these phenomena influence us even when we do not notice them. That is why we do not see what is going to happen tomorrow and do not understand why some things happen. Life gives us questions all the time and we do not have answers for them because we do not have enough information. Therefore, the perception of reality is the main question in the wisdom of Kabbalah.

Why Does The Creator Need My Love?

laitman_629.3Question: Why does the Creator need my love and bestowal? Why did He create a created being that should love Him?
Answer: Kabbalists who comprehend the physics of the immense open creation outside of our small closed world tell us what happens there.
Do you want proof? Do the same thing that they did and then you will be able to judge whether it was done properly or not, and you will see how you will change your mind.

How To Reincarnate More Successfully In The Next Life

laitman_622.02Question: Suppose that during the course of one lifetime I will not be able to ascend the ladder of spiritual levels. Will I fall into a body distant from Kabbalah in the next lifetime? Or is it possible here and now for me to hold onto the right intention so that I will be able to be more successful in the next reincarnation?
Answer: What you are saying is that you do not trust the Creator and do not trust yourself and therefore you want to create some kind of insurance so that in the next life you will not find yourself far from the wisdom of Kabbalah.
You cannot do anything for yourself except to integrate with and join a group that studies the method for attaining the Creator and to hold onto it with all your might through the group. That is, you need to hold onto the center of the group and advance with it.
When you have gone through at least a few steps with the group, even before you have revealed spirituality and the Creator within yourself, you are still determining your next state and your state after your rebirth in another body.

To Overcome The Threshold Of Insensitivity

laitman_293Humanity can go a very long way until it reaches the recognition of evil. We say that the correction should end in 6,000 years. However, according to Kabbalah 6,000 years is 6,000 degrees: NHYHGT, and HBD. That is, if we start counting from Adam, there are 223 years left. However, these are not terrestrial years.
In the end, what difference does it make to a person if it will happen in 223 years or in 20,000 years? If he wants to do it tomorrow, he can do it tomorrow. Then it does not matter how many years remain, 200 or 2,000. We need to look at this realistically and not philosophically.
You can make it happen here and now, but if not, so what? Anyway, a person will have to die and then again find himself in another life. After death, we immediately come to the sensation of another state, not of this world, but of a slightly different and changed one.
I hope that we people who study Kabbalah nevertheless push humanity to enter what is called the land of Israel and to begin correctly transforming it for ourselves.
Question: Will a person feel happy in this movement?
Answer: If there is a prospect and a person goes after it, feeling the support of other people, then even before he starts the movement he already gradually begins to see. Without the support, he sinks into even deeper depression, but with the support he moves with joy.
In this case, a nation that understands that it moves correctly and leads the rest of humanity after it is called the people of Israel. They enter the land of Israel, meaning they begin to transform their desires for bestowal and love and by this show an example to everyone else. This is a great state for the nation and for all of humanity that will finally begin to understand how it comes to a bright future.
So many people today are in depression or take drugs! They do not see any prospect!
Yet, we are in a position to understand the plan of creation, to see how this happens in accordance with what is written in the Kabbalistic books, how this has been going on for the last 20 to 30 years, and how it is being transformed.
We join this mechanism, rotate its flywheel, and move forward knowing what will happen. It’s hard for us to explain everything to other people; they do not want to hear it. They have their own egoistic obstacles.
But how happy we should be in that we see the prospect. The rest simply exist and feel their own insignificance and absolute inability to change their destiny. Of course, this is worse than death. Therefore, they consume marijuana, take antidepressants and so on.
“Why should I have children? Why should I create a family? What am I living for? Give me a pill, I will swallow it and I will sleep. And even better if you give me a pill, I will fall asleep, and maybe I will die in a dream.”
Question: Then why don’t people hear us?
Answer: We can’t get to them, and this is a huge problem. There are so many people in the world who are suffering. They are killed, they are bullied, burned, destroyed, and shot. And still they do not hear.
Humanity still has to overcome a certain threshold of insensitivity. This is won by suffering, among other things.

How Do You Develop A Point In The Heart?

laitman_929Question: I heard that we are all parts of the one soul of Adam and within each of us there is a spark from it called a point in the heart. What is a point in the heart and how can it be developed?
Answer: We all belong to one desire. This huge desire was divided into many parts, each of which fell into your, my, or his body. Our bodies separate these parts of desire from each other. I want one thing, you want another one, and he wants something else because our bodies rule and order the desire that it should want.
The wisdom of Kabbalah says that if while living in this world in our bodies we connect together the parts of the desire that exist within each of us, then in the created common desire we will begin experiencing the out-of-body phenomena, that is, a different reality—the spiritual world.
After all, each one feels this world within his personal, individual, isolated desire. And if we unite our desires, then they acquire a new quality precisely due to the unification. This common desire becomes integral and joint, and within it we feel the reality that exists outside of you, me, or him: the upper world.
It is not so difficult to achieve this; the main thing is to understand how important it is for us to see the upper degree, a state higher and more external than this world, that is, the future world. As it is written, “You will see your world in your life.” If we cancel the limitations of the body and unite into one man with one heart, we will feel the upper world.

Why Was Kabbalah Concealed For So Many Years?

laitman_961.2Question: Kabbalists concealed the wisdom of Kabbalah well. Now we must make great efforts to reveal it to the world. Why has it been arranged this way?
Answer: First, Kabbalists did not hide anything. They have always been for the revelation of this wisdom.
But 2,000 years ago, after the destruction of the Temple, people began to turn their backs to the wisdom of Kabbalah to such a degree that Kabbalists were forced to hide The Book of Zohar and other sources so that they would be reveled in our generation.
Baal HaSulam began to adapt the wisdom of Kabbalah to our times and only today is it being revealed.

Man, The Snake, And The Creator

Laitman_631.2Question: Why is Adam called the first man?
Answer: The first man or Adam is the soul. When we speak about him, we do not refer to a physiological body in any way since it does not exist. We are speaking about a desire that basically wants to resemble the Creator.
This general desire spread from the world of Ein Sof (Infinity) downward through all the worlds: Adam Kadmon, Atzilut, Beriya, Yetzira, and Assiya. After passing through the filters of these worlds, the remaining desire became similar to the Creator under the influence of the upper Light. This is First Man, Adam HaRishon.
At the same time, there is the snake inside him—a desire that doesn’t want to resemble the Creator. It was intentionally created this way so that we will always be able to measure ourselves and determine where we are in the range between the Creator and the snake, which is the total opposite from the Creator, at which point and how far from the Creator or the snake we are.
These are the 125 levels of a person’s ascent up the spiritual ladder; the snake is at the bottom and the Creator at the top.
