Work In Faith Above Reason

laitman_208Our entire life, everything that surrounds us, and ourselves, all belong to a certain place, which with our rational minds, we call “this world.” But the upper system, the Creator, exists above our level and influences us so that we, with our own strength, with the help of our requests and prayers, understand our state and desire to rise above it.
The upper system spread from above downward, from the world of Ein Sof (Infinity) to our world in order to form our world. But we are obligated to activate it, to awaken it, by acknowledging it and putting it into action. We need to understand how particular our work is. With our desire we ignite the Light in the upper system, turn it on, force it to act upon us, and by doing so, we build it. Regarding this, it is written: “You created Me.”
This work of faith above reason, going in the upper system, we need to awaken and revive through our own desires. It is the only work that is given to us in this life. All the actions that we undertake on our level in this world are aimed toward understanding where we get our life force, our existence, our awakening, for what and to what we need to respond. In other words, we build the next level, awaken it through faith above reason or bestowal above reception.1

Faith is the force of bestowal, which is given from above. Faith = Bestowal. All that is needed for this is the demand that the greatness of the Creator be more important than material knowledge or reason. This will attract the reforming Light to us, which will raise us to the level of faith where we are ready to be above our reason, above all the disturbances and problems. And if we hold onto the power of faith, then with the strength of this faith, we merit the revelation of the Creator.2
The Creator’s reason is bestowal, faith; a person’s reason is the will to receive. To acquire the reason of the Creator means to receive the desire to bestow.3
If I receive some type of disturbance in my present-day reality, within my reason, then I understand that it comes from the Creator who is awakening me through this, helping me to raise to His level. That is why I ask for the greatness of the Creator, in order to rise to the level of faith, to bestowal above the revealed problem.
The question lies in why do I rise: simply to feel better? Then it is a Klipa, because I want to use the force of the Creator for my personal well-being. It turns out that the Creator is not important to me, faith is not important to me, but only that I feel good in my desires. It is the same with religions and other beliefs.
But maybe I am ready to remain with the unpleasant sensation in my desire to receive and above it build a desire to bestow, and that is why I ask to be raised to the level of faith. It turns out that I have two levels and I try to save them both, rejecting neither. The difference between them can then grow to such an extent that the Creator is revealed in it: between Bina and Malchut.
In each moment of life, we must try to remember that everything comes only from the Creator and with a specific purpose, so that I will use the revelation of evil and attribute it to the Creator as a reason to achieve bestowal, faith. That is how I work with faith above reason.4

New Life #1011 – Loyalty To Myself

New Life #1011 – Loyalty To Myself
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel
Summary
Without discovery of the Creator, a person is loyal to his ego and is unaware that the ego manages him to his detriment. It will not help a person to be loyal to himself because he doesn’t see the big picture or the desire of the Creator. The wider picture involves us emptying ourselves of what we naturally desire and filling ourselves with the power of love for others. It is necessary to work in a group with a teacher in order to understand this method of discovering the higher power. When the person attains equivalence of form with the Creator, he becomes one with the Creator and can then be loyal to himself.

The Boiling Lava Of Unity

laitman_943We can only unite by attack. After all, we possess a force that resists unification in every possible way. But this power does not prevent us from doing anything in this world. People’s egoism in this world is not an impediment; it only contributes to development.
Therefore, egoism is not a bad thing. On the contrary, if a child would not want anything, would not seek to conquer the whole world, he would be underdeveloped, and it would be alarming.
The more one is egoistic in this world, the greater is his ability to succeed. It is only necessary to direct his egoism in the right direction so that it will not be destructive and will not harm society. But if, thanks to egoism, he does a great job and achieves a lot, it is only for his and the world’s benefit.
To be more precise, it is not even egoism, but the force of development inherent in the program of evolution, in the whole of nature, including every person. The real egoism, about which it is written, “I have created the evil inclination, I have created the Torah as a spice,” manifests only when we aspire to unification. Then, within the unity, we reveal the power that hinders it.
The desire to unite is our desire to correct the system of the common soul, the first man, Adam, who was shattered. Our duty is to correct it, for the Creator created the separation between us as a place to work so that we will connect all the broken parts.
When we try to unite them, we reveal the force that prevents unification. This power is called “egoism.” The force that opposes it is called “the Torah,” the “reforming Light.” One needs to know how to reveal this evil inclination within oneself. It is a snake, which prevents us from uniting.
One needs to appreciate this force that resists connection and not destroy it. We must collect these forces all together and try to overcome them. We will then find out that we cannot do it ourselves because this is the force created by the Creator, and that is why we need the Torah, which is the Light of correction.
Only those people who have realized the need for unity need the Torah, which is the highest Light that leads us to unity and correction.
Despite the enormous power of the ego’s resistance, the power of the Torah unites our stony hearts together, warms them up, melts them, and turns them into a boiling lava, a single force. And then we come to one spiritual vessel (Kli) from the ten Sefirot, to the Partzuf, to the part of Adam HaRishon who the Creator created and broke into pieces.
This is how we move forward, and everything starts with our desire to unite. You should not look for an evil inclination anywhere else, but only inside the union. In this case it will open. We do not seek evil. We seek goodness, connection and unity, and then we reveal evil.
We always move in the right line, and if the left line opens in it, it means that we need it and it must be parallel to the right line. Then we should work in the middle line to correctly use the left and right lines as a whole.

Medium: “Childcare Abuse: Mirror of the 21st Century Society?”

The portal Medium published my new article “Childcare Abuse: Mirror of the 21st Century Society?

We cringe when we hear about another horrifying childcare abuse story, such as the abusive daycare workers that were arrested last week, both in Israel and Arkansas.
Inconceivable as it is, abuse in daycare centers appears to be systematic and widespread. Data gathered from 39 states in the U.S., for instance, shows that 5,321 daycare providers were found abusive. In Israel, efforts are being made to push legislation that will require all kindergartens to install security cameras, as parents realize that no one can guarantee their children’s safety.
But what is causing those we hire to take care of our children to behave in such a monstrous way? And how can we constrain this phenomenon when we don’t have control over what happens inside daycare centers?
It’s hard to grasp, but these horrifying incidents reveal the cold, stony heart that beats within the human being. When the ego overpowers us, it floods us with such a high degree of agitation and fury that conquers all, driving us to harm anyone in our way, even a helpless little toddler.
And with little children who cannot express themselves well, there’s nothing to stop the monster from breaking out. Likewise, data shows that the age group most likely to be abused is between 0 and 3 years of age.
“What Kind of Monster Can Do That?”
“If I myself had seen such a video online,” said the Israeli kindergarten teacher as she was shown footage of her own abusive behavior, “I would ask: what kind of a monster can do that?”
Evidently, we cannot see our own fault in the moment of truth. The stony heart blinds us and removes the sense of guilt, causing us to lose our senses without being aware of it.
Thus, even if we put cameras everywhere — we won’t be solving the root problem. The monster lies within every caregiver, and in fact, in every one of us. The question is who awakens the monster from its sleep?
We can easily blame individuals for their abusive actions, and we should certainly prevent them from continuing. But these are merely results that float above the surface. The monster that awakens is a social disease that has been incubating for decades and is erupting increasingly in our time.
How We Got Here
Until the midst of the 20th century, raising kids was completely different to what we are now used to, and yet closer to our natural development as human beings. Mothers used to have better conditions for bringing up children and caring for their wellbeing. And they were socially acknowledged for doing so.
Then came the industrial revolution, along with powerful vested interests who sought to modify the social order for the sake of profit. Efforts were made to drive women into the workforce, by relating it to liberal ideals of women’s emancipation and their equal status in society. That was in order to maximize production and consumption to a level the world has never seen before.
The resulting consumer society was designed to plunder the planet’s resources so as to orient human life around material excess. Gradually, people embraced a new lifestyle that reshaped the social order and the family unit.
However, as happiness studies uncover, neither we nor the wealthy few actually find any genuine satisfaction and comfort in the cyclical chase for material acquisition.
The result? A society where toddlers are torn from their mothers and thrown into the hands of a nanny who also competes in the material race. A “free” society where everything is permitted and boundaries are blurry. A society where the natural connection between parent and child has been significantly compromised and devalued. A society where monstrous, uninhibited ego can erupt even towards helpless toddlers.
Childcare abuse is the mirror of human society in the 21st century.
Our Children Need a Social Revolution
So what are we going to do about it? How will we prevent similar incidents in the future? How will we heal the sickness of our society?
As long as we fail to work towards a fundamental change in social values, we can all pledge guilty for the abuse in daycare centers.
This is not a call to go back in time. On the contrary. It’s a wake-up call for the next revolution to occur. Just as the industrial revolution taught us to lead a material lifestyle — the next revolution must teach us to lead a social lifestyle.
First, we must re-prioritize education. It should become society’s most valued profession. An educator must receive social recognition along with the conditions to maintain professional integrity. We have to choose caregivers who prove their passion to bring up our children, who will gain a deep understanding of human nature, and who will be trained extensively to practice restraint and self-control in any situation.
These are just a few preconditions for any educator who works with children. But the true revolution will happen when we, adults, will sit together in circles, much like in kindergarten, and cultivate the human being within us, against the monster that may awaken.
When we redefine the goal of life, we will replace the material rat-race with a growing sensitivity to our deep human connection, and it will give us a new sense of meaning and fulfillment.
Specifically the wisdom of Kabbalah becoming revealed in our time, is designed to shed light on the natural human connections between people and help us develop them to the ultimate level: discovering the system of connection the binds all of us together as a single family.

Don’t Run Away From The World

laitman_761.3Question from Facebook: Do you really think that everyone should leave their business and job, sell everything the way you did, and just study Kabbalah? Are you “second best” if you don’t do this?
Answer: Not at all! I had no other choice. Nobody told me to do that. I just had an inner calling, a certain kind of fate that guided me, and I could not have acted otherwise.
Question: So when you tell us about this, it is not an example?
Answer: Of course, it is not an example. I myself do not know if I would have done that again or not. It just happened.
Question: Does it mean that a person should not leave his job or his business in order to study Kabbalah?
Answer: On the contrary, studying Kabbalah requires that you engage in all of that.
I did not quit my job. I changed it to another one so that I could study without being burdened by anything, without thinking how I would pay taxes, organize all kinds of things, and be responsible for the business. I just wanted to take care of my needs, to work a little to support my family, and to spend the rest of my time studying.
Question: What is your advice to someone studying Kabbalah? How should he live in this world with work, family, and so on?
Answer: In no case should a person run away from this world. It seems to him that he might make some great altruistic, sacrificial act, but in fact, it is not the case. He should stay at his job and continue everything the way he did before.

New Life #1010 – Loyalty

New Life #1010 – Loyalty
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel
Summary
In the future, loyalty will reach a negligible level so that we will search for the only power that it is possible to rely upon. People cannot be blamed for lacking loyalty since we are all acting according to our inherent, egoistic tendencies. Being loyal to the characteristics of the Creator gives a person security and makes him stronger, greater, and whole. Loyalty to the Creator will not dissipate because the desire to bestow goodness doesn’t come on account of others and it therefore increasingly grows.

Check Yourself: Do You Feel The Greatness Of The Creator?

Laitman_193The Creator receives tremendous pleasure from the fact that the created being enjoys Him, becomes same as Him. And if we are in union with Him, then we must try to bring Him this pleasure.1
I must always check myself, my mood, do I feel the greatness of the Creator or not? If I am not filled with joy from the fact that I live in the world of the Creator who fills me and everything around me, that means that I am still lacking His greatness.2
There is no stronger, deeper, or more infinite pleasure then what comes from the revelation of the Creator. This fills the entire horizon, a person no longer sees anything else—everything is seen only against this background. And today we must try to be in this very state: the Creator is the constant background, lighting the entire reality, and we must connect all of reality to Him, and that is why we must see all of reality only as a means for the revelation of His greatness.
The greatness of the Creator distances us from us all problems, all disturbances, all barriers. All pleasures and fulfillments are also only from the greatness of the Creator. Any deficiency in any place is elicited by the deficiency of the greatness of the Creator and is corrected only by it until we fill all of reality with Him.
But I do not erase the problems because if they disappear, I lose the need for the greatness of the Creator. The egoistic desire will be pleased and I will not need anything else. But how can I awaken the darkness myself? As it is written: “Each man will help his neighbor”—between us we form new needs toward the greatness of the Creator. Therefore the shattering occurred so that through the connection between us, we can form the need for the revelation of the Creator.3

Become A Spiritual Partzuf

Laitman_079.02If I want to achieve equivalence of form with the Light and bestow to others, then I become a spiritual Partzuf. After all, I restrict my desire to receive and connect to others who become my nine upper Sefirot. And I bestow to them through my desire to receive, my Malchut. And each in the ten does the same.
Then, through the mutual connection between us, we create a network, “a ten.” This ten is not built on the individual bestowal of each one to the others, but on mutual group bestowal. Through this, we acquire a new level of bestowal and a mutual Sefira appears for us, the Sefira of Keter (the Creator), as well as a mutual Malchut created by the Creator, through which we want to bestow to Him.
And then the ten becomes as one. This is a perfect spiritual Partzuf in which there is a soul—not in each of us individually, but in each connected to all others.
Each of us is like a cell in the body. But if we connect, then we turn into an organ, which can, from within itself, find out what the Creator’s attitude toward it is. By myself I am not capable of experiencing this, but only if I connect with others and build the system from our connections. And then, within this system, I can reveal the force of bestowal, the Creator. This becomes my Kli, my soul. The soul is an instrument for the revelation of the Creator.
I have nothing to give to the Creator. But, by giving to others, I offer the Creator a place to be revealed. In other words, we reveal Him by building Him in the connections between us.1

What Determines The Strength Of The Soul?

laitman_232.05Question: What determines the strength of my soul? Can I increase it?
Answer: The strength of the soul depends on one’s egoism, on what thickness of the ego you can rise above; this is what determines the strength of the soul.
The soul is the property of bestowal and love, which we receive through the upper Light. Therefore, it can be achieved only through annihilation of egoism.

Attacking The Connection

laitman_260The main thing is our unity through which we re-establish the shattered soul of Adam. A person’s work is to correct all parts of this soul, to connect them together by gradually connecting with each other more and more. First of all, we need to figure out what is preventing us, what is the resistance to our unity. It is in our personal inner qualities, not some external enemy. This enemy sits within us and instead of hiding it, we need to correct it so that we can turn hatred of others into love of others. When we draw this adversary toward connection, it becomes 620 times more significant, stronger, and deeper than it was prior to the shattering.
It turns out that it was not a shattering; but only the revelation of the hidden evil. It existed from the beginning within Adam, but had not manifested. And when he wanted to use his desire to receive in order to bestow, he could not do it because the egoistic qualities were then revealed.
We need to understand the essence of the shattering, the sin of the Tree of Knowledge. It was the revelation of evil that had been placed there initially and suddenly was revealed. He then felt  broken, in the sense that he was unable to maintain the previous unity.
We all are the consequences of this action, which is called the sin of the Tree of Knowledge, the destruction of the Temple, the shattering, and we need to find out exactly where those desires are.1
The evil inclination is only that which resists connection, the will to receive positioned opposite to the intention to bestow. Initially this desire was restricted, it was unable to work with receiving in order to bestow. And that is why when this structure called Adam started working with these desires to receive in order to bestow his sin was revealed, in other words, his egoistic intention.
We need to correct these desires that unfold as shattered, starting with the lightest and moving to the heavier. This takes time; we do this in small portions until we return back to the corrected general soul of Adam. We come to the very state that Adam HaRishonwanted to be in, performing the action of receiving for the sake of bestowal in his whole soul, as if he had succeeded.
But in fact, it is not quite the same state. That is why we had to go through this entire process, because we reveal the evil through it. And the disclosure of evil is a tremendous contribution to the correction and to the final state. This evil possesses great power, directly opposite to the Light, to the Creator. And it is exactly through this power of evil and its various appearances that we attain the Creator’s nature, His character, His style.
We come to understand the depth and the multifaceted nature of the evil of egoism and begin to gradually bring it to the good. Ultimately, we acquire a corrected desire in which there are two forces: our desire to unite and the egoism resisting it, both working in order to strengthen the power of the future connection between us and the Creator.
That is why it is impossible to have evil without good or good without evil—both of them must function together. And actually, they faithfully do their work in order to reveal the Creator and give Him pleasure. The entire system is geared toward this and we only need to add our work.2
From all our brief and limited lives, we have one opportunity: to reveal the source of life and to establish an eternal connection with Him. Therefore, we try to establish these connections with the friends. I am obligated to connect to the system since it is only from the ten Sefirot that I will be able to attain the upper force.3

Why Do I Need So Much Knowledge?

laitman_546.01Question: I study the theoretical part of Kabbalah in order to more easily depict a spiritual connection. Why do I need so much knowledge if I study this material for myself?
Answer: You need it precisely so you could understand your own structure and the structure of the world.
You are studying the eternal science! You will need it in this world and in the next world, in this life and in the “other-worldly” life.
Study it! This is what will remain with you forever.

New Life #1009 – Education For A Healthy Imagination

New Life #1009 – Education For A Healthy Imagination
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Tal Mandelbaum ben Moshe
Summary
Children’s education should include discussion about the Creator as the general force of nature and how we get closer to the Creator when we get closer to each other, as well as how to differentiate between this truth and imagination. For example, if children are exposed to content in which still, vegetative, and animate levels of reality speak, parents should explain that this does not happen in reality. Children should be protected by loving parents who avoid talking about death since they cannot accept this. A healthy imagination revolves around depicting a good future for people and society at large.

Blitz Of Kabbalah Tips – 12/31/17, Part 1

laitman_547.04Question: Does the soul have volume?
Answer: The volume of the soul is measured by the degree of its bestowal above egoism. If a person’s egoism is great and he has the ability to transcend it and bestow through its help, it is valued as a great soul.
Question: How much time is required to ascend the spiritual levels if we are regularly studying the wisdom of Kabbalah? Is there an average or is it all individual?
Answer: There is no such measure. It is an individual ascent that depends solely on your efforts.
Question: Why is it that on one hand I know that the Creator exists and is hiding Himself from me even though I do not feel that, and on the other hand, I feel what happens to me directly and do not connect it with the Creator?
Answer: The Creator does not hide from you, rather it is you who are hiding Him. Everything that happens to you is done by the Creator.
Question: Where does the “self” come from? What is the reason for its creation?
Answer: The “self” is simply an egoistic desire, a feeling of self that is revealed through the four phases of the Ohr Yashar (Direct Light).
Question: Is it possible to develop and improve on one’s own?
Answer: No. If you are alone, you have no connection with the Creator.
Question: If the world exists only within me, do all of the sciences. including the wisdom of Kabbalah. also exist only within me?
Answer: Correct.
Question: I read that the Creator suffers much more than we do because He is forced to move us through suffering. How should I understand this?
Answer: Indeed, our sufferings are felt more in the Creator than in us because He is the totality of nature, while we are only a small part of Him.

Faith In The Spiritual And In The Material

laitman_567.04Question: Is there a correct method of working with doubts in Kabbalah?
Answer: There can be no doubts in Kabbalah. Rising above them, we come to the spiritual quality of bestowal, the quality of faith, and there is no room for doubt in it because there we reveal the Creator, the upper Light.
Faith in the spiritual is the feeling of the Creator. And the spiritual quality of faith is the complete opposite of the material where you close your eyes and imagine that this is so.
In Kabbalah, on the contrary, you open your eyes and begin to see.

“Man” And “Woman” In Kabbalistic Terms

laitman_543.02Question: Can the Creator be revealed between a man and a woman—two opposite qualities?
Answer: There are no men and women in Kabbalah. In Kabbalah, each of us has both a male and a female root.
Question: What are “man” and “woman” from the Kabbalah point of view?
Answer: A man symbolizes the quality of bestowal without any reference to gender, and a woman symbolizes the quality of reception without any reference to gender.
Any two objects, the created being and the Creator, or different parts within the created being, can always be compared as male and female components. That is, each object can be a male part with respect to one thing and a female part with respect to another one.
Everything is determined only by the action because any object is a desire to enjoy. To the extent that the desire manifests itself in reception or bestowal, it is called a male or a female part. From the spiritual point of view, at one time I can be a woman and at another time I can be a man.
Question: However, in this world someone is born as a man and someone as a woman. Why does this happen?
Answer: It is because based on the upper roots, the same distribution occurs on the animate level. But these gender differences mean almost nothing. We are entering the era of complete spiritual equality. Women will express their spiritual aspirations exactly in the same way as men do.

New Life #41 – The Reason To Marry: To Love By Fulfilling The Desires Of Others
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz
Summary
True love enables a person to be connected to eternity. By exiting ourselves, making concessions to one another, and dressing in our partner’s desires and thoughts, we become one body again just like Adam and Eve. We see an opposite world, meaning a world that exists above our egos. This is a new world where we cannot be hurt. If we define couple relationships as a lab for self-development as human beings, as a springboard to a new life, then we have a good reason to connect.

Father’s Day

From My Facebook Page Michael Laitman 6/17/18
Father’s role is to point at the goal of life and direct his children to a path that leads to it. Mother’s role is to cradle the children with warmth and support them all along the way. Father provides authority and confidence. Mother provides abundance and nourishment.
Their mutual complementarity is necessary for the natural and healthy development of every person in our world.
In the spiritual world too, there are two forces called “father” and “mother,” which develop the soul. Two forces through which the Creator presents himself to the created being, and develops the created being.
Father’s day is a great opportunity to learn more about the father’s role within the family unit >>>>>

Taste For Beauty Remains

laitman_600.02Question: Why did the Creator create so many interesting, amazing and beautiful things in this world? A person has a desire to try and taste everything. The Creator gave both opportunities and desires. Why go against this?
Answer: We do not need to resist. But when a person wants to master his exalted mission, he loses interest in everything else. As it is written, “The big fish swallows the little ones.” (Zohar for All, Chapter “VaYikra,” item 185)
Therefore, if I engage in attaining the meaning of life and understand that I need to reach it via a certain path, then everything else on the way is nothing more than a means.
Question: Is the taste for beauty in this world taken away from a person?
Answer: Nothing is taken away from a Kabbalist. On the contrary, he gets even greater tastes, desires, and yearnings. I still like good music, nature’s beauty, and travelling. I like watching the National Geographic channel, the animal world, and the ethnography and culture of the peoples of the world.

According To The Laws Of Our World

laitman_567.04Question: If someone is hurting me in our world, is it necessary to settle the conflict with love?
Answer: No. In this world we act according to its laws. The action is equal to counteraction. A person must be educated, knowing not to harm others.
The Torah says: “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.” Many people had problems in the passage through the Sinai desert, and Moses always punished them. Correction by punishment lasted for 40 years, until the generation was completely replaced by a new one, ready to enter the land of Israel.
The Torah does not speak about forgiveness. And we don’t see it anywhere in the world! That is all just beautiful words and lies! Why should we act like this if our nature does not take it at all?
Question: What then does the phrase mean: “To love good and to hate evil”?
Answer: True, we must love good and hate evil. But this does not mean that if you are hit on one cheek, that you turn the other. This will never make an individual a person. You yourself are doing harm to him. He will see that he receives a reward for bad actions and will act this same way.

Love is built above our differences by conscious, mutual concessions. Being connected means that each partner accepts what is important to the other as their own desire. When we have the right attitude toward our partner, we acquire new discernments and transform our senses. Couples can discover that this is the secret of life. They can reach a new era in their lives, a new dimension of perceiving themselves as a couple, and a new way of perceiving the whole world.

About the film: In June 1940, about a year before the German attack on the Soviet Union, an extraordinary newspaper called The Nation was published in Tel Aviv. The paper was his last attempt to promote the importance of uniting the nation.
