This World Is Very Meaningful

laitman_423_01Question: Why do we need to go through the entire evolutionary process of human society if the corporeal world is imaginary?
Answer: The corporeal world is very meaningful. As a result of it, we reach the understanding that our corporeal evolution has reached a dead end. We realize that we have evolved in the wrong way and that we cannot advance further in this way because our egoism leads us to the abyss, to death.
There is a phase in the evolution of our desire to receive that we must undergo and clarify here in this world. Egoism shows us its lowliness, its hopelessness, and its futility. We must undergo all this to feel it, experience it, and be incorporated in it.
This world is very important, and all the internal changes occur while living in this corporeal world. In addition, there are many corporeal changes that we don’t feel in our reality in this world.
It is hard to explain how we perceive our reality if our body is dead. We believe that we feel everything through the body, but this isn’t true. The body is only one of the illusions that we have.

Sculpting The Creator’s Image

laitman_527_03Question: The fulfillment of the instructions of the Torah ends upon entering the land of Israel. What leads us onward?
Answer: It says that: “a person’s soul will teach him,” which means that person’s soul leads him along the spiritual path. This means that a person is born into the spiritual world; he has exited Egypt, wandered for 40 years, reached the full attribute of Bina, and can now work with the Light of Hochma, is in direct contact with the Creator, taking examples from Him and enacting them.
This is the work in the land of Israel, when a person’s initial desire is only a pile of clay, but once he contacts the Creator, he sculpts himself according to His image by becoming more and more compatible to the Creator. This means that he draws additional external forces upon himself, forces that are greater and coarser, and sculpts the Creator’s image from them, the attribute of love and bestowal in all its infinite forms beyond any limitations.

Where Is The World Headed?

laitman_254_01Question: You used to write more posts about the actual wisdom of Kabbalah and now it is as if everything is about Israel and the Jews. Aren’t you a Kabbalist anymore?
Answer: I engage in the advancement of the world towards the goal of its development, which is the ascent (transition) to the next level, to the spiritual level. The wisdom of Kabbalah is the study of this transition. But it is a process that happens to humanity gradually over 6,000 years, since the discoverer of this phenomenon, first man (Adam). In our world the transition is realized in a group of people.
They differ from others since the question about the meaning of life is burning in them, asBaal HaSulam tells us in the “Introduction to The Study of the Ten Sefirot,” Item 2. Abraham was the first to gather and organize this group, and called it the people of Israel.
This is not a biological nation that developed from their common biological ancestors, but an ideological nation, i.e., descendants of people belonging to different nations living in Babylon 1,500 years BC who understood the call of Abraham, that through connection and unity, despite mutual rejection, and revealing the upper force (“taste and see that the Lord is good”), the meaning of existence is attained.
The fulfillment of this goal is the reason for the existence of the Jews, although they have forgotten about it for 2,000 years now. But this is the only reason they exist: in order to show themselves and all the other nations the attainment of the goal: revelation of the Creator. The fate of the Jews depends on the successful illustration of how to attain the higher existence (being the Light unto the nations).
The nations of the world expect this of the Jews subconsciously, and when this mission isn’t fulfilled, it evokes hatred towards the Jews and a feeling that the Jews are hiding something from them. Today we are in a special point in human evolution: it has reached global egoistic dependence.
There are two ways we can advance from this point: either by a world war or by correcting the global dependence into positive global connection. If the Jews choose the path of unity and teach the nations of the world how to fulfill it, the world will reach the next level of its development rapidly and safely. This is the only thing I engage in.

Taming The Ego

Laitman_115_05Question: How should I examine my egoism: as part of me or not? How should I work with it?
Answer: It is better to see egoism as an extraneous force and then you can gloat when you kick it. Then you will ask for powers to detach yourself from it.
Question: Will I be able to thank the Creator that the ego receives blows?
Answer: Yes, at first it is painful and then it becomes pleasant. When the ego dies, a person immediately begins to feel the eternal world. We can fully attain all the levels of correction while living in our corporeal body! But when we cut it off ourselves nothing ends. During the phase of correction we cannot even fully cut it off ourselves because we will have to advance with it. We continuously process the egoistic quality into the attribute of bestowal (the attribute of Bina) and then into the attribute of Keter, the intention to receive in order to bestow. Therefore, we mustn’t suppress our ego in any way. We have to regard it as something extraneous, but ours, and to keep it on a leash, like a dog in a doghouse.

The Charismatic Leader And The Public Good

laitman_263Question: Who can influence others?
Answer: There are people who have a great influence over others. It comes from the root of their soul. They are born leaders with a special charisma.  And it is very important for their influence to be positive.
We must educate people so that those leaders who succeed in integral education could lead the masses even with the little charisma that they have.
But charisma alone is not enough because it can be a negative sign, as with Hitler. Therefore, we first should correct the person and only then help him become charismatic.
Charisma will appear in precisely from realizing the greatness of the goal and that one can give humanity the knowledge accumulated through those special properties.
But if a person isn’t properly educated, he may become harmful to everyone. Thus, charismatic people who want to be leaders, but do not wish to be part of the integral education system and go through correction, are a big problem!
Correction means seeing oneself working more for the benefit of society more and more. When a person understands the importance of his participation in the common system, then he begins to lead.

Kabbalah – The Science Of The Future

laitman_214Whatever we do in our world, we discover that everything is motivated by our internal egoistic forces, and there is no way that we can rise above this.
All development, even though it may seem romantic, moral, and nice, always leads to collapse, to death, to our inventing all kinds of instruments and mechanisms that create situations that inevitably lead to oppression and death.
On one hand, science interests us; we love knowledge. We have a great need to expose the secrets of nature. But on the other hand, we must clearly understand that this aspiration leads us to suffering, which ultimately will bring us to the conclusion that we need ethical education. Then we will begin to discover nature in an absolutely different way as we aspire to find the characteristic of mutual connection in it.
This will be a totally different science, a science that is not like the science of our world that only comes from an egoistic understanding of nature. After all, when we have an altruistic view of the world, we begin to see its mutual relationships and reciprocal support.
We will see absolutely different laws prevail in the world at different levels and will penetrate the deep ties that connect all parts of nature together. We won’t begin by going from separation to some small connection; rather, we will discover a picture of total mutual connection. And this will be the science of our world, called the science of Kabbalah.
On every level: mechanical, physical, zoological, biological, etc., only Kabbalah reveals the single common bond of all of creation and the Creator that exists within this connection. The most real human need is to attain harmony with the entire creation. It will engulf and fulfill us so much that it will become our reward. Nothing can be better than this.
Right now, this is concealed from people, but it will be revealed gradually, and we will see that all forces blend together harmoniously. It is specifically the harmony of mutual acceptance that fulfills the soul.

Secret Of Eternal Youth

laitman_751_1Question: Nowadays, everybody tries to look younger. This issue became so popular that a new industry that slows down the process of aging was launched: medicine, cosmetics, health and beauty centers. Why do we have this burning desire to stay young forever?
Answer: The thing is that we are confused and live a dual life. We live in our soul that is not developed yet and consists of a tiny “point.” We also live in our animal bodies and are not yet human.
“A man” is not about our body (a form of protein matter); rather, it is a desire similar to the upper force, nature. A man (Adam) means “similar (Domeh) to the Creator, i.e., the one who possesses an altruistic property of love and bestowal directed to one’s neighbor.
This type of man exits from his egoism and lives in a desire that he builds in his “neighbors.”
It makes “a man” similar to the upper force of nature that secretly exists in this world and is called “the Creator.” The Creator is a power of absolute bestowal and love without any intention for Its own sake, as the sun that constantly emanates warmth, light, love, and benevolence on everyone without exceptions.
We float in the benevolent illumination of the upper force as in tender rays of the sun. But our structure is opposite to the upper force’s. Our egoistic structure is oriented towards the will to receive. This is why we always try to get as much as possible; this fact makes us dissimilar with the upper force.
We constantly consume. That’s why our life is limited. It is so because first of all we depend on Him, He fulfills us and gives us vital energy. We stay alive for as long as we consume His vital energy and take advantage of it. With time, the energy weakens, we age and then die.
In order to live eternally, we have to become similar to the power of bestowal and love and get outside ourselves. If we manage to do so, we’ll be able to receive unlimited vital energy. It will happen because we won’t consume it for our own sake but because we will strive to repay the Creator all His benevolence that He extends to us. He gives it to us, we give it back to Him.
This form of existence allows us to live endlessly. Not only will we prolong our lives for hundreds and even millions of years, but we will be able to completely get rid of the boundaries of time. When we become similar to the upper force of nature that constantly pours love on us and acquire its properties of bestowal and love, we will become as eternal as the force itself.

A Kabbalist Is His Own Lab

Laitman_003.jpgQuestion: In his article “The Last Generation,” Baal HaSulam tries to lead a person through the process of thinking about what we are living for, why things are the way they are, and why the whole human system is reaching a dead end.
He says: “I take all that so close to my heart that I cannot restrain myself anymore, and I have reached the decision to discover the way of our predetermined future correction from my perspective and from what I have found in these books. I will go out to people and I will blow the Shofar.”
On the one hand, he appears to us as a dispassionate scientist exploring the nature of things, but on the other hand, he appears as a man full of love for mankind.
Answer: I wouldn’t call a Kabbalist a levelheaded scientist. He does express himself in the dry scientific language of physics that is very similar to the language of programming, but what is concealed under this language? Feelings!
Therefore, although he tells us how the Reshimot (reminiscences) rise in us, how we gradually begin to mutually cooperate with the upper level, and how the force descends from there to the lower level, his heart and his desires are behind all these mechanical actions because he feels all that on himself.
A Kabbalist is not a physicist nor a chemist who looks at a certain instrument he has invented, confirms and records the physical or chemical processes that take place in the still matter, the vegetative (biology) or the animate (zoology). A Kabbalist is not a person who studies what goes on in a living organism like a vet or a doctor, but the intrinsic properties, the internal processes taking place in our desires and our thoughts. He studies the mutual connection, the mutual cooperation, and the mutual influence of the thought on the desire and of the desire on the thought. The heart is the desire and the mind is the thoughts.
What is more, he doesn’t study it in the conventional frameworks of our world where we see certain outcomes and try to influence them. A Kabbalist studies everything on himself! He is his own lab! He is driven by the attainment of the world, “I attain the world through me,” and it isn’t an unproven axiom like scientists in our world use. For a Kabbalist it is a field of discovery, and he immediately begins to understand the world he is observing, he sees it inside himself.
If I read the newspaper or watch a movie on the computer screen, for example, it doesn’t mean that the paper is posted on a newsstand or that the movie is projected in a cinema somewhere. I see it on my own computer and not beyond its boundaries.
Its the same with a Kabbalist. Whatever he feels he feels on himself, so he cannot express his feelings of self-rejection in a dry manner. At the same time he expresses himself in a very dry language. It is because the wisdom of Kabbalah is the only wisdom that compares our feelings with the very rigid and precise laws and responses of nature that invoke the feelings, responses, and the discovery of consciousness in us.
We are part of nature that is made of vectors of different forces that cooperate mutually, including our feelings and our thoughts. But it is impossible to study them on the earthly level because these thoughts and feelings are above us! A Kabbalist, through spiritual methodology, rises to the level where the interaction of these forces and the birth of the desire, feelings, and our thoughts, man’s inner world, take place, and it is from this level that he begins to influence them.
He studies on himself by which mutual cooperation he can invoke his responses, and why certain responses are specifically the way they are—whether they can be identical to the mutual cooperation of others, in what way people differ from one another, and although they are different, what can they aspire for despite the differences. A Kabbalist studies how nature influences us and what it leads us to, why it manages us the way it does, and how we will perceive the influence of nature if we change by ourselves, whether it changes at all or whether it influences us in the same way all the time, and whether we can change and perceive its influence differently.
This means that a Kabbalist enters such a lab where he is his own subject.
Comment: Many scientists have engaged in such studies: doctors, physicist who studied radiation on themselves.
Answer: No. it isn’t the same thing because they studied physical laws of the world of the still, vegetative, and animate nature on themselves, while here we speak about the laws of the upper world. The ultimate goal of such research is very simple: to understand what we exist for. After all, there are many galaxies around us and no one knows what is in them, while I want to discover and to know what I live for, who I was before I came into this world, and who I will be when I leave it; do I have to feel myself as living in a body that is totally connected to it in every possible way or can I somehow detach myself from it? It is going to die soon and I may transcend to another state, etc.
The wisdom of Kabbalah is a wisdom that allows a person to start answering questions about the meaning of his life. Animals don’t ask such questions. Those in whom such thoughts, desires, and yearnings are invoked are called human. Such people already ask human questions and the wisdom of Kabbalah provides the answers to them.

Can The Teacher Be The Standard?

laitman_249-01Question: If I don’t feel the Creator, can I tune in to you as the goal, since you and your goal are clear to me?
Answer: If that suits you, then you can tune in to me. Actually, I devote all my life, all my time, to studying and teaching, and aspiring for the Creator and helping others do the same. Basically, each one of us needs to do that.
But in the wisdom of Kabbalah, the teacher cannot be the standard because his inner life, his inner development, is not known to anyone. What we see is only his external movements that function on the physical level, the animal level.
For example, the religious Hassids imitate their teacher, “Oh, our Rabbi loves to eat that, and dress like that, and we do the same.”
Of course, this is not a basis for imitation. You don’t receive anything through that because in everyday life I live and exist according to my physical (animal) body. I operate according to what my body demands and according to what doctors advise. I listen to doctors and listen to my body.
There is absolutely nothing here that is connected to the spiritual world. All of spirituality exists deep within and is inaccessible to the eye and to imitation. Thus, there is no reason to look at me.
Think about each one of us reaching the goal. If each one will begin wanting his friendsto reach the goal, then that will be the “prayer of many.”

The Third Temple And A Solution To The Global Problem

laitman_937Wandering in the desert is a very difficult internal state through which a person gradually grows.
The desert changes him from being a slave of the egoistic desire to being the ego’s master. This occurs in the 40 years of wandering in the desert. A person gradually ascends his ego, step by step and changes it into the attribute of bestowal.
It isn’t easy to cross the desert; this is man’s problem, and it must be overcome. This is the reason that the Torah ends with the crossing of the desert and entering into the land of Israel. That’s it! That’s all we need. We get the force we can advance onward correctly with.
But why doesn’t the Torah tell us how to fight and to conquer the land of Israel. After all, the spies said that seven nations live there. It is because it is futile to fight them. Today we live in the same way.
We were given a method that tells us how to absorb the Light of correction, but nothing more than that. It turns out that if you bring yourself to the land of Israel, it seems that you are left on your own afterward, because at this point you advance directly toward conquering the land of Israel, which means toward overcoming your true egoistic desire. Before that it was only the preparation. Now you enter your egoistic heart and begin to conquer it, to digest, and to process it into the attribute of love and bestowal.
In the past we built the First and the Second Temples, which were destroyed. Now after these two destructions, we have to build the Third Temple on the foundation of the first two. But we cannot build it alone, not only the nation of Israel. It has to be built by the whole world. This is the reason that it is so powerful and eternal. The Third Temple is the correction of the global egoistic desire that the Creator has created. The whole world must take part in it. It is like the prophet Ezekiel says: “The nations of the world will carry the children of Israel and bring them to Jerusalem,” which means that they will bring them to the necessity to build the Third Temple.
Question: Does this mean that the Third Temple will no longer be Jewish but international?
Answer: Yes. Today the world already begins to feel that all the problems come down to one intricate network, to something everyone shares: if you pull the string everything will fall apart just like a house of cards. If there is a small problem in some part on the globe, it is immediately echoed all over the world. The world becomes more mutually connected every day so that we will begin to realize that we have to find a global solution to the problem and we are not prepared for it. Our role is to bring humanity to the understanding of how to be ready to face this new situation.

Guiding The World Towards The Good

laitman_936Comment: Historians began to speak about the appearance of anti-Semitism not long before the destruction of the second Temple. But even before then a particular hostility toward the Jews existed. But true anti-Semitism appeared specifically at the moment that the Jews began to scatter all over the world.
Answer: Anti-Semitism appeared when the Jews shattered the good connections between them. Hatred towards them appeared precisely at this moment because they stopped being the source of good in the world.
As long as they were connected, the good force reached the world through them. The moment that they lost this connection in the time of Rabbi Akiva, in the period of the destruction of the second Temple, the world began to sink into darkness, and simultaneously hatred towards the Jews began to increase.
And rightly so, because when we don’t carry out our role, we convey a force to the world that unites them in common hatred towards us. But if we connect and unite above all the contradictions between us, we guide humanity towards the good.

Leaving Egypt…

laitman_749_03The Torah is Light that descends unto each of us and corrects our individual egoism and connects us through the corrected states with everyone else until we all become one whole that cannot be separated.
The Torah speaks about man’s spiritual correction. The book of “Genesis” tells us about the essential basis of creation. It tells us that the Creator didn’t create anything but evil: “I have created the evil inclination (egoism)… I have created the Torah as a spice.”
But when did He give us the Torah? Only after the exodus from Egypt at Mt. Sinaibecause the evil inclination has to be revealed in a person and in all of humanity first. The ego has to show itself as harmful to man as the force that destroys man, his life, and most importantly, the force that separates man from the Creator, from wholeness.
A person must understand unity with the upper force is the perfect state and must not just listen to stories about it because he is not attracted to it and he has a completely different definitions as to what it means. It is only when we begin to realize that wholeness is the attribute of love and bestowal that the rule “love thy friends as thyself” becomes our goal. But we feel that we are in the opposite state: in mutual hatred, rejection, and distant from one another.
Recognizing the true state of our nature is called the exodus from Egypt, and when we reach Mt. Sinai we know exactly who we are, what we are, and what we want. After all, the point of Moses exists in each of us and tells us we want to leave our Pharaoh. We have left him a bit, but in fact he is inside us. When we are in Egypt we believe that Pharaoh dominates us from the outside, but now we begin to realize that he is deep inside us and we are so close to him that now we have to get rid of him, or rather to correct him.
In other words, the attribute of love and goodness exists only in the corrected egoistic attribute: we were given matter that is not corrected and we have to correct it. That’s all! There is no other matter. Thus we had to be in Egypt so that we would feel that I am Pharaoh and that I really want to get of this state. When I ascend a bit above the attribute of Egypt in me, I want to be free of him, and then it means that I have exited Egypt. But it is only theoretically and not in matter yet.
The Creator is the attribute of bestowal. If we change our egoism to bestowal, this attribute will appear in us.

The Wisdom About The Essence Of Life

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe wisdom of Kabbalah was concealed for two thousand years from the moment of the writing of The Book of Zohar. The people of Israel went into exile after falling from the spiritual height of love of others to unfounded hatred in what is called the destruction of theBeit HaMikdash (Temple).
Thus, the wisdom of Kabbalah was concealed and only traditional Judaism remained, known to everyone until today.
The wisdom of Kabbalah needed to be concealed from then until our time. And in the 20thcentury, the giant Kabbalist Rav Yehudah Ashlag came and wrote Kabbalistic books through which we can awaken ourselves to learn, begin to study, to know, to understand, to feel, and to discover the real world we live in. In principle, our world is only a minute sphere within a vast world that we don’t feel. Modern physics explains that there is a reality beyond our world, but it is incapable of finding it.
After all, in order to reveal the spiritual world that manages our lives, we need different instruments that we acquire only through studying the wisdom of Kabbalah.
Rav Yehudah Ashlag wrote books with whose help we can begin to learn and discover what world we are in, what we are living for, and what the purpose of our lives is. He wrote a commentary on The Book of Zohar, thanks to which we can understand this book; he wrote many articles and the six volumes of the Study of the Ten Sefirot, the greatest textbook on the wisdom of Kabbalah that exists as of today.
By studying these source books, we can understand what the meaning of our lives is, what kind of reality we are living in, what kind of a process of development we are in, who manages us, and how we can become free people so that we can attain freedom of choice. The wisdom of Kabbalah makes it possible to rise above death and above this worldly life. All of this is in our hands.
Rabbi Yehudah Ashlag defined the Wisdom of Kabbalah in the article, “The Teaching of the Kabbalah and Its Essence” like this: “What is the wisdom of Kabbalah? As a whole, the wisdom of Kabbalah concerns the revelation of Godliness, arranged on its path in all its aspects—those that have emerged in the worlds and those that are destined to be revealed, and in all the manners that can ever appear in the worlds, to the end of time.”
This means that the wisdom of Kabbalah is a method of discovery. It reveals all of creation and the stages of development from this moment until the end of all generations. We can discover what was in the past and what will happen in the future, moving freely above time in every direction from that point we are in now.

Hearing The Creator’s Voice

laitman_276_02The Torah, “Numbers,” 7:89: When Moses would come into the Tent of Meeting to speak with Him, he would hear the voice speaking to him from the cherubim above the covering which was over the Ark of Testimony, and He spoke to him.
This refers to the state of spiritual contact of the point of Moses in a person with the Creator.
“Voice” refers to the attainment of the Creator by the created being. It is discovered between the two cherubim in the image of birds on the edges of the covering of the Holy Ark which symbolizes the right and the left lines: the attribute of Hassadim (mercy) and the attribute of Din (judgment). When the two lines get close, a person connects the attributes of love and bestowal, egoism and altruism inside him, which operate together for the same unique cause. At the same time the egoism crushes itself under the attribute of love and bestowal.
It is thanks to the rigidity and the sufferings that a person can now truly appreciate the connection, the love and mutual cooperation with the Creator. Otherwise, it is impossible to appreciate this state; it is simply impossible! A person doesn’t have the proper sensations and it is like asking a child: “Kiss me.” He approaches you and automatically pecks your cheek without really feeling anything.
The feelings emerge only if nothing about the past is forgotten and is even revealed more clearly. To the extent that the past appears to a person, he can assume what the near future holds for him because the past and the future have to be balanced and connected in one feeling of the Creator. The Creator appears between the two cherubim, the two opposite lines, the egoism and the altruism. The Godly voice, His revelation, is born between them. It is only the point of Moses in us that is in contact with the Creator and can hear His voice.
Hearing is the attribute of Bina, attaining the attribute of Hochma (sight) is fulfilled throughBina, through the attribute of bestowal. When a person ascends from the attribute of Binato the attribute of Hochma the revelation of the Creator takes place, the contact with Him.
The Tabernacle symbolizes more external attributes that a person has to correct in himself. When the point of Moses is gradually revealed, we begin to delve more deeply into our internal attributes symbolized by the Holy Ark that guards the book of the Torah inside it, the covering of the Holy Ark, the two cherubim at the edges of the covering between which the voice of the Creator is heard. These are all signs of the internal corrections, which we have to gradually perform and reach the state of contact with the Creator who is revealed to us in our understanding, recognition, and attainment, which bring us closer to Him.

Getting To Know The Plan Of Creation

Laitman_707We are all in a system that operates on with different forces, and as a result, different desires, urges, and thoughts emerge in us.Everything depends on the extent to which we mutually participate with these forces correctly in order to reach a state of balance and harmony with them.
A person is under the pressure of segmented forces, and he must arrange his thoughts and desires and understand where we are headed. We see that everything is advancing very fast in a certain direction, but without a plan. Yet, nature has a very clear and accurate plan that man doesn’t understand. He doesn’t know how nature develops and what it demands of us. We are forced to participate in the evolutionary process together with the still, vegetative, and animate nature that surround us, and at the same time, within ourselves, like all of humanity.
However, we cannot even imagine the forces of our development, their goal and nature’s actual plan. We don’t know what tomorrow may bring, and thus we participate in this process passively.
In order to find the answers to the basic questions about the purpose of human existence and of humanity in our complicated times, we must pay attention to nature that surrounds us and try to understand its plan. Indeed, to date we have already passed along a large portion of the time axis of our development, and we see that we are developing very quickly. Of course, there are different periods, but it is an accelerated process. This acceleration is especially evident lately, and it is very frightening.
Our development takes place under the influence of our egoistic desires to understand and discover everything, to control and manage everything. Moreover, everyone’s egoism—of every nation, of every state, and the entire universal egoism—is only the human ego. All of the other parts of nature—the still, vegetative, and animate—have no egoism. They are managed naturally, instinctively, under the influence of nature’s mechanical laws. They do whatever nature spurs in them. This is the reason that they are not the problem, but it is only mankind. We also can divide mankind into four groups: the masses on the level of the still, vegetative, and animate nature, and human beings, according to their ability to understand the purpose of our existence.
Therefore, first and foremost, we must teach and educate those who are close to the perception and understanding of human nature.

The Ancient Secret Of The Jews

laitman_749_01Question: Why is it that throughout history the Jews have been hated so much?
Answer: In different times, various excuses have been cited. After all, the Jews weren’t always accused like they are today for running the world, manipulating everyone through the banks, and enslaving humanity this way. In the past, it was rumored that they were starving people, sending all kinds of infectious diseases, causing corruption and the evil eye, etc. In general, to every normal person it is clear that the Jews had some kind of secret that is impossible to grasp in any way, even if you were to grab them and strongly shake them. It isn’t clear, but they have something of the source that is unusual, and what is unusual is the fact that the Jewish people have succeeded in existing for so many thousands of years.
There are even various theories about their creation. They are different from the rest in that supposedly they came to Earth from a distant star or were created from a different type of ape, etc. There are a multitude of reasons for not liking Jews, and if some kind of negative event happens in the world, then it is always possible to pin this on them. On one hand, it is easy to make them a scapegoat, but on the other hand, there is really something about them that makes people feel that they are to blame for everything.
Among the nations of the world, this is a natural feeling. Suppose that I am not a Jew. I look at them and feel that they have something that we don’t have. It is not clear what it is, but it is there. How can one fight against this? What can one do with it? I don’t know.
The Jewish religion, even though it is the foundation of all religions, is directed against them for some reason. Christians, Muslims, Hindus, and Confucians, all of them, are centered on themselves, whereas, for some reason, the Jews have a relationship with everything.
The Inside Information of the Jews
Question: All people who become dispersed among other peoples must disappear after three generations according to geopolitical laws. Only the Jewish people have held onto their position for not only three generations but for 2,000 years in exile. On one hand, for the length of their existence itself, and on the other hand, the hatred of humanity toward them makes the Jewish people something illogical. Where does this irrational hatred come from?
Answer: From the point of view of the wisdom of Kabbalah, it is because in some way we truly are the source of evil for all of humanity. We have a remedy through which we can make everyone happy, and we not only don’t give it to others, but we also haven’t discovered it ourselves because we don’t know that we are the ones who possess this remedy. The idea is that the method for acquiring happiness is concealed within us and is kept as inside information, as something that could be revealed to the world.
This method has been latent in us from the beginning. We became a people based upon it. Around three and a half thousand years ago in ancient Babylon, we became detached from all of humanity and gathered together to the call of Abraham, “Whoever wants to understand the meaning of life, the essence of what is happening with us, what stopped us from understanding each other and why we built the Tower of Babel, whoever feels that salvation can only be through connection and consolidation, come with me!” That is how we consolidated around him. Moreover, Abraham gathered representatives of completely different tribes who didn’t understand each other and didn’t know what to do. But he explained what was happening to this mixed audience, and he showed them how it is possible to rise above the separation, above the hatred, above all the differences, and connect into a single whole, and this single whole became the Jewish people.
Question: Now, do we carry a genetic memory of this unity within us?
Answer: This is not just a genetic memory. It is a program that plays within us. We are connected to each other according to a particular algorithm, and from our connection, we have understood somehow that it is necessary to continue to develop the idea of mutual connection even though, at every moment, we really want to get out of it.
Question: So were those people who followed Abraham drawn toward this unity?
Answer: They understood through their inner sense that there is a method for salvation here because all of Babylon was in a terrible state and humanity dispersed throughout the world. In his historical writings, Flavius Josephus described in which directions all the various tribes (clans) scattered. Some went east, others to the north, to the south, and so forth, becoming the foundation for the present civilization. However, Abraham gathered tens of thousands around him who had the same outlook and actively showed them how to connect based upon the method of connection circles.
These were practical lessons that included all of the nuances of their common life within them. Abraham took them out of Babylon and led them to the land of Canaan (present day Israel), and with their adaptation to this land, it also was called the “House of Abraham.” They were engaged constantly with connection because, every day, every moment, the aspiration to scatter again appeared in them. After the ego grew in them, rejection constantly flared up between them, and they needed to connect again. So, their method constantly became more sophisticated, despite and thanks to the development of the egoism within them.
To be continued.

You Cannot Take A Vacation From Yourself

Laitman_407_01The method of Kabbalah allows us to really achieve a harmonious, balanced state. With its help, we find contentment, not in lowering ourselves from the human to the animate level like during a vacation.
Usually, a person goes on vacation to think about nothing, to disconnect from daily news, that is, to separate himself from human society with its problems.
He doesn’t worry about food or family concerns—only about what to bring pleasure to his physical body: to sunbathe on the beach, swim in the sea, then to have dinner, after dinner a little nap, in the evening to sit in a coffee shop to talk, drink beer or wine, to dance—everything is quiet, serene. The next day is the same thing; a person lowers himself to the level of an animal.
He does not advance anywhere this way, but acts just to benefit his body with comfortable bodily sensations. Nothing but this concerns him. This is the same degree as that of a cat basking in the sun that behaves in the same way.
It is good to relax like this if a person is capable of it. But we are approaching such forms of development of the world where a person cannot be satisfied with this.
On the other hand, life will become so difficult that we will not be able to afford to go on vacation. The crisis will intensify. The times when people took time off and traveled around the globe will be over. All the hotels around the world will be empty.
The process of evolution, which is controlled by one egoistic force, will lead us to the full realization of evil. We will see that we are at the mercy of the evil force and can do nothing about it. We have all the potential to turn this world into paradise, but there is one evil ruler who does not let us live happily.
Hotels and beaches will become empty. Everything seems to be arranged for our pleasure, but we will not be able to enjoy this; we will have neither the desire nor money for this. Thus, we will become aware of the need to reveal the positive force, which will balance the evil.
All over the world there will be increasing tension, conflicts between countries, clashes, revolutions, murders, violence, and terror. The globe will shake so much as if it has gone mad. Why do we need all this, what for? No one will have an answer. The evil force will rule over us in everything.
Gradually, we will realize that we must reveal the positive force. For this, we will need thewisdom of Kabbalah that allows the Creator to be revealed by created beings in this world. We will not be able to accomplish this without it.
Meanwhile, the upper management hides the force of good from us and reveals the evil, egoistic force more. This will continue until we demand from it to reveal the good force. Then people will be drawn to Kabbalah and will feel the need for it. They will have the patience and desire to grasp this science because without it our life will become worse than death.
If we turn to the wisdom of Kabbalah, then with its help we begin to reveal the positive force of nature, which is manifested in our connection with each other. This happens very fast, like a miracle. As soon as we try to unite as a group, we will immediately reveal the power of good that is able to balance the force of evil.
We feel that a good force is added to our lives. And having two forces can bring order to our lives. It’s impossible to cancel or reduce one force at the expense of another, but it is always possible to arrange them to remain in equilibrium between these two forces and advance.
This is the practical application of the wisdom of Kabbalah that we need to learn.

Youth And Beauty Of The Soul

laitman_537Question: Why are so many people concerned lately about their appearance that they are willing to spend so much money to look younger and more beautiful?
Answer: In the old days, people did not give much importance to appearance. However, in today’s world, it has become very important because we are developing in our egoism and it increasingly binds us to the physical, material life.
Our ego wants to become similar in this material life to the spiritual world. Egoism is developing so much that it promises to provide us with the best life, to extend it endlessly to give us enjoyment and to look attractive, young, and strong in the eyes of others.
The general process of evolution, according to the program inherent in us, leads us so that we rise to the new degree of development, the spiritual one, and begin to live in the form of forces, spiritual qualities, not physical bodies, experiencing life only through the body.
To move to a higher level of existence, we first must make sure that we do not expect anything good from our bodily life. It can be neither eternal nor happy, and all its acquisitions are worthless.
Therefore, we must go through all kinds of states—the pursuit of wealth, honor, power, knowledge, and external beauty—to disclose the complete insignificance of these desires, that they bring no fulfillment. It is impossible to reach full and eternal contentment with life through them.
This is a time when we seemingly chase eternal life. In other words, we are trying to keep eternal youth. But as a result of this race and much wasted effort, we are to understand that this goal has no real value.
It is impossible to achieve either eternal life or true inner fulfillment in this way. The desire to look young and beautiful is given to us so that having been disappointed in it we would choose a higher goal.
This higher goal is really eternal. By reaching it we begin to live not in our physical bodies but in desires, aspirations, and intentions.
The desire to preserve eternal youth is just a certain stage of our development. After that, there will be the fashion to freeze one’s bodies, hoping to revive them in the future when more advanced technologies will emerge. But even in this approach we are destined to become disillusioned and realize that this is not the solution.
All of these efforts are intended to lead us to the fact that there is no choice; we must rise to the next level of existence, that is, to make the transition from life in the body to life within the soul. All our life is pushing us toward this goal.
All our life values—food, sex, family, money, honor, knowledge ,and all the fulfillments of this world—are designed to disappoint us and aim us to the only direction, which is to lead us from existence in the physical body to life in the soul.

Light From The Depth Of The Well

laitman_424_02As it is written in The Book of Zohar, When a Cohen stood up below, he spread his hands, all the sacred Sefirot above were awakened and corrected to be blessed and receive Light from the depth of the well of Bina that constantly comes down to them. And the blessings don’t stop; they come down and turn into sources for all the worlds.
Cohen (priest) is the upper part of the spiritual structure called a Partzuf. When he stands up and spreads his hands, his blessing comes down from above to Malchut. In this way, she is awakened below, and then all the characteristics of Malchut ascend from below to above with bestowal and love. They ascend to the upper worlds.
All of the Sefirot from Bina to Malchut are called a “well.” The more that Malchut is connected to Bina, this well is alive and flowing. Otherwise, it is just a pit without any water. If the well is full of water, but it is covered with a stone, it means you must carry out particular conditions to open it and draw water from it.
In the Torah, the meeting of the patriarchs with their future wives almost always happened next to a well. If the woman accepted water from the hands of the man, this meant that she was appropriate for him because water is the connection between Malchutand Bina. In this way, by means of the upper and lower waters, mutual interaction took place between them.

Beauty For The Sake Of Prestige

Laitman_070Question: Formerly, plastic surgery was available only to Hollywood stars. But these days it is popular among ordinary people who want to look younger and more beautiful.
People say these operations free them from many psychological problems they had.
Why doesn’t a person agree with what nature gives him instead of trying to reach perfection with the help of such corrections to his or her appearance?
Answer: A person seeks to preserve his youth because of  his natural desire to live eternally. He knows that he is bound to die and no one knows what will happen afterward.
Even despite the fact that our life in this world is not serene, requires a lot of exertion, and tries our nerves, it is better than total darkness and disappearing.
Therefore, no matter how hard life is, a person’s instinct for self-preservation makes him strive to continue to exist.
There are cases of suicide, but this is an exceptional phenomenon. From nature, the human being tends to protect his life and extend it as long as possible. Only greatsuffering can force a person to agree that his life be cut short, but not otherwise.
That is, the desire for eternal life is a natural phenomenon. And it is very important for a person to feel beautiful, strong, dignified, and confident. He is willing to invest a lot of effort and money for it.
It would be possible to work for half a day in some simple position to secure the necessities of life. But we want to be as good as our neighbors and show off our expensive cars and fashionable clothes and, therefore, must work hard.
External beauty is the same object of pride as a new car, which has value in the eyes of society and determines our status. If we didn’t live in human society, we wouldn’t worry about our beauty and would care only about what is necessary for existence and nothing else.
It would be possible to wear pajamas all the time—soft, warm and comfortable—and just as easy to arrange our entire environment. But our pride and desire to show off in front of others make us care about our appearance.
If we did not live in a competitive environment, neither men nor women would have cared about their looks. This occurs only under the influence of society.
