Goodbye, Fantasies

Baal HaSulam, “Body and Soul”: The rest of the concepts, which combine the reason of their method and other methods, are forbidden to us. One who uses them breaches, “Turn you not unto the idols.”
If I imagine something that is imperceptible by my organs of perception, that is called “idolatry.” From this, it is clear which kind of fallacies all of humanity is in.
My analysis must be exact to the maximum. It must be based on real data, on what is in my hands, not in fantasy and conjecture. Only this kind of perception and approach will make me change and see the new world, but, again, in real perceptions, “in my hands.” Everything else is a game of imagination.
Only if I stop fantasizing and accept that there is nothing outside of the five organs of perception, that one can be guided only by what you see, this will oblige me to expand the range of my perceptions, and that is why the prohibition against fantasies is necessary for internal changes. Thanks to this, I will reveal the upper world in my improved organs of perception.
Question: However, no one understands that!
Answer: True, however, there is such a thing as the recognition of evil. Only when man reaches the edge, the limit, when it really becomes unbearable for him, then he is being opened for changes.
Humanity needs to reach the very bottom of all religions and beliefs. This is where modern religious fanaticism is from in all of its manifestations. There is a place for this. People must give an exhaustive expression for all of these approaches to life. Only then will they be able to pass from one edge to the other and reveal the truth—the simple, materialistic truth—based exclusively on the study and the perceptions of the organs of perception.
That is what the science of Kabbalah is. There is no mysticism, no chimeras. In the same way that a donkey stands in front of the feeding trough, either there is food or there is not food. There are no other options.
In the very end, people will discover that all of their beliefs do not give them food; it doesn’t give them anything. You go down with no strength either to live or die. You will not be allowed to provide for your existence in your perceptions, and then you will need to change them.
At first, we imagine this world in perceptions, and we get along here without changing our perceptions. Then, we begin to go down, and the perceptions shrink, contract, push, and limit us. It is similar to the torment of birth labor. The world descends into darkness, into scarcity, into problems and dangers, and then, because I have no other choice, I am forced to run from these perceptions since, in them, I am experiencing death. In them, I am no longer able to carry on with what I do. Here, there is no longer a place for belief in something better “on the other side.” I can’t survive now. The hope for life after death no longer helps.
Today, problems are impacting the wallet, but, tomorrow, they will befall the souls, the source of life’s strength. Together with the science of Kabbalah, all through the entire world, people will be led to understand that it is necessary for them to change their perception.
The most important thing in it is the desire to receive, and people will need to change it for the one to bestow, no longer believing in something that they do not see with their own eyes, what they do not know from experience. Fantasies will stop helping. People will develop to such an extent that they will feel that the only way is to change their own perceptions.
That is the realization of evil, of the evil inclination, that the Creator created together with the Torah, meaning, the methodology for correction with the correcting force of the Light that allows coming to the good beginning. Such are the three states, the three stages of the path.

Faith: A Reward For Work

From the article “The Reason for the Difficulty of Annulling Oneself for the Creator” (Shamati): It therefore follows that the essence of one’s work is only to come to the sensation of the existence of the Creator, meaning to feel the existence of the Creator, that “the whole earth is full of His glory.” … He should not think of anything, meaning that the only reward that he wants for his work should be to be rewarded with faith in the Creator.
Many words have a double meaning. After all, their original meaning in Hebrew goes back to Adam, the first man, and Abraham, who gathered a group in ancient Babylon and taught them how to reveal the Creator. Originally, the word indicated the spiritual root and had a spiritual meaning. But today, in our material world, these words could have completely opposite meanings.
For example, the famous phrase from Ecclesiastes “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity (Avel Avalim)” means that everything is built from the Reflected Light (Avel), the results of human work in bestowal. And in our world today, the phrase acquired an absolutely different meaning, as something which has no value.
The same thing happened with the word “faith.” When the people of Israel became detached from the spiritual feeling, this word started to mean something hidden, that we don’t know whether it exists or not. We take for granted that it exists, although we do not have any evidence for this. That is, the word “faith” has lost its true meaning, the sensation of the Creator.
This happened with many other words. And that is why we do not understand what is written in the Kabbalistic texts because they describe spiritual states.
The difficulty of spiritual work is that we have no faith in the Creator, that is, we do not feel Him. And once a person begins to feel the Creator, he has another problem: how to rise above this feeling and through his free choice prefer bestowal upon the Creator. After all, this bestowal should not be forced under the influence of the revelation of the Creator, but it should rise above this revelation due to its highest value. Otherwise, it will be only the result of a small person worshiping the great Creator, and there would be no work in this.
In the meantime, the difficulty of our work is that we do not feel the upper force—the only thing that controls this world. In the moment a person reveals this feeling, he surrenders and agrees to anything. Therefore, our only goal in the work is to reveal the Creator, and we need to concentrate all our efforts to reveal Him according to the similarity of properties, which can be realized within the group through connection and mutual guarantee.

We Need Each Other

Question: From a spiritual point of view do we have to divide our attitude toward the family, humanity, the Creator, and myself equally?
Answer: No. The most important is the group because within it we obtain the necessary condition, the basis, meaning the freedom of choice, intention, and connection with the Creator. Everything is determined within the men of the Kabbalistic group. Women and the rest of the humanity connect to them. The inanimate, vegetative, and the animal parts of nature are under all of them.
We Need Each Other
Everything is determined within the men’s group between the friends. Women add their desires, their pressure, and they participate in this. However, the network is made between the men’s desires because it is precisely they that are directed toward bestowal, although without the women’s part they lack the pressure for this. This is just like ZeirAnpin in relation to Malchut. This means that we need each other. Everyone knowing their mission complements the other one and we gain the integral Kli.

The Creator Is Hidden, But The Group Is Open

In reality, “there is none else besides Him,” and the Creatorwould like to be revealed to the created being. However, if He revealed Himself, the created being would never be able to become independent. It would always “sell” itself to the Light and would not be able to separate itself from it.
That is why it is impossible to cancel oneself before the Creator, before the Light, because I am an absolute slave to pleasure. People know that themselves, and in this life, we are constantly controlled by the Light.
It is for this reason the Creator is hidden, but the group is open. So, we can begin to communicate with it and even rise above our egoism, which would be impossible with the Creator. And in everything else, it is all the same.
Except a human being, only the Creator exists: “There is none else besides Him.” Then, a person discovers that he does not exist either. There is only one upper force that fills everything. But this is after a person arrives at this on his own.

A Choice Through Free Will

Question: You said that a good, strong group can solve any problem inside of it. If death is threatening a man, we unite, we do not give this person up, and something works out for us. However, what can be done if a man is threatened by a spiritual death due to breaking away from the group?
Answer: Here, it is his freewill. You can come to him, talk to him, convince him, and shake him up, in general.
You have the right to do it since you used be friends with him. Nevertheless, he must give you some kind of a possibility for this, for the sake of the past.
However, if you see that it is useless, leave him be. Time will do its job, perhaps not even in this lifetime, but he will return the next time and complete it.

There Is No Adhesion With The Creator Without Respect For The Teacher And The Group

Religious schools instill an attitude of respect in children towards the teacher and spiritual leaders from early childhood. This tradition comes from spiritual principles. But since mostly secular people come to Kabbalah, it is very difficult for them to change their attitude towards teachers, which they have become accustomed to in school and college.
We are not used to attributing a higher degree to the teacher who gives us spiritual attainment. We think that a teacher recites things written in books and sometimes provides more detailed explanations.
It is incomprehensible and unnatural that in the Kabbalistic approach you receive spirituality through the teacher. But in Kabbalah, adhesion with the teacher precedes adhesion with the Creator. It is impossible to attain greater trepidation in relation to the Creator, than the kind that you feel in relation to your spiritual teacher and the group. This is the way a person builds himself; this is why the entire world has been given to him.
But you need to work on it; otherwise, you will not attain the goal. Lack of respect for the teacher is a modern problem, which shows us how much we still need to correct ourselves. This is not a coincidence, but an enormous addition of egoism, which needs to be corrected.
This additional egoism is additional distance, which separates us from the Creator, and it shows through the fact that we don’t respect the group or the teacher and thus distance ourselves from the Creator.
When I was a student, what helped me correct my attitude was that I was always imagining the higher system where we all exist, but which is concealed from us. And in this system, every one who is lower is absolutely attached to his upper. The actual system did not break; the breaking only took place in our perception. Our entire work consists of bringing ourselves to the point where we are able to perceive and reveal the actual system.
And once the spiritual system becomes revealed, the connections between all its parts will also be revealed to us. The ladder of spiritual degrees does not change, and when one soul becomes revealed first, and another one is revealed after it, this order remains forever. And this is why we will always receive through the great spiritual fathers, Kabbalists, who have lived before us and completed their corrections. We will always receive through Baal HaSulam and Rabash.
And if you continue this path and once merit spiritual attainment, you will receive it through me. This is the way the spiritual ladder is.
We need to work on this, otherwise a connection will not appear between us. It is written: “Make yourself a Rav (‘Rav’ means big) and buy yourself a friend, and justify every person,” and all this is preparation for the adhesion with the Creator. Naturally, the teacher does not need the compliments that a student needs. But the student needs to prepare himself for the revelation of the Creator.

Passing The Wisdom From A Teacher To A Disciple

Baal HaSulam, “Letter 43”: And the sages said: “the reverence for your teacher is like the reverence for Heaven.” And this is why Rizhner was proud that he had attained the highest level of all the sages in his generation, since he had acquired the faith of the sages more than anyone in his generation
And we should understand that faith isn’t the question, since even six-year-old children can acquire it, but it is his feeling of the greatness and the awe his soul felt by the wisdom of the sages, that part of His wisdom renders superfluous to those who revere Him.
Passing on the wisdom refers to the passing of the Light of Hochma and not to external wisdom. Therefore, it depends on the connection between the spiritual Partzufim. An upper Partzuf gives birth to a lower Partzuf from its “chest” downwards, like GE gives birth to AB. First GE gives birth to the internal Partzuf of AB and then the externalPartzuf of AB stems from it, which comes after Galgalta, by being dressed on it from the outside, from its “chest” downwards. This is the order of the Partzufim.
Passing on the Light is impossible without such a connection between the spiritualPartzufim, without the lower being adhered to the upper one in some way. The place of adhesion is where the upper and the lower connect into one whole. Then the lower can receive from the upper and the upper can pass something on to it. If there is no such place of adhesion, of connection between them, then the lower cannot be born and cannot receive the Light from the upper.
After the shattering, we find ourselves in this world and we develop as a result of theReshimot (reminiscences) that are evoked in a certain order, from the lighter ones to the heavier ones. Here we already have to work from the bottom up and to acquire a strongerMasach (screen) over our ego each time in order to adhere to the upper one.
We also receive the Masach from the upper by the Light that Reforms. The order of the degrees never changes; it only seems to us that it doesn’t exist since we don’t feel it. Actually we are all connected, since the shattering is only revealed with regards to a person himself, according to his attainment and his feeling.
So the whole system is revealed to us according to the order the Reshimot are evoked from the bottom up. We only have to add our labor to attain adhesion with the Creator. This adhesion is attained through the group, a teacher, and all the means that we have including the studying. Thus we receive the Light that Reforms and through the studying and the connection with the group and the teacher we reach adhesion with the Creator; that’s the way it works.

Don’t Pull Yourself Up By The Hair

Question: Why doesn’t the Creator let us succeed in anything, and forces us to turn to Him?
Answer: He gives you this entire world and obligates you to perform different actions, and He trips you so that you will turn to Him. Otherwise, why and in what way would you succeed?
After all, all you need is to turn to the Creator. How else can you correct yourself and become similar to Him? You won’t pull yourself out of the swamp by the hair yourself, or, as it is written, “A prisoner cannot free himself,” since you are only a desire to receive.
So, you go through different states just like the rest of the world. The Europeans, for example, are trying desperately to keep their “union.” Actually, they seem to be blind and stupid, but what can they do?
Nothing will happen until they go through this entire process and finally give up. They will have to recognize their failure, either before the war or after it, saying, “That’s it. We don’t know what to do.” Then, they will listen to us.
So, we must prepare a letter in advance with instructions for them and send it to them. It is our obligation. It doesn’t matter who receives it or who reads it. It doesn’t matter what wastebasket it might be thrown into or in which file it will be buried. We must do it.
The same goes for each of us, but differently from the Europeans. We must turn to the Creator because He is the source of all the forces. Who else can help us? We need theLight that Reforms and we need the force of bestowal to reside above the force of receiving to stabilize it accurately with regard to it.
All our work comes down to turning to the Creator. All our free will is in doing it as quickly as possible, by preceding the afflictions. Why should I experience my failures year after year in order to break down eventually and then turn to the Creator?
As it is written, “Who is wise? One who sees the future.” So, I want to become a wise man now! Why should I suffer for years? What will I gain from it? This advancement is called the “path of suffering.”
The good way is when—without delays, through the group and by other means—I draw the Light and immediately understand what I have to do, how to ascend. Why should I sink deeper and deeper into the swamp of afflictions, diseases, disasters, depression, and constant threat?
Question: How should I want this if the Creator controls my desire?
Answer: He controls my desire and inserts into it a motivating urge from the next level. Now, this level seems dark. Turn to the group, ask for the Light that Reforms, and it will be illuminated. It is dark because you are looking at it through the opposite attributes.

In The Force Field Of Mercy

Question: From what material can we build the spiritual vessel among us?
Answer: Our vessel is the connection among us. We are not the vessels, but the negative particles by which we have to push ourselves. I have to push myself from myself, my “self” towards the friend. My soul is in the contact that is formed between us.
In The Force Field Of Mercy
The friend does the same for me and the spiritual revelation takes place between us. The whole area between us is our spiritual vessel. We are only the negative particles which there is no need for any more; it’s our ego above which we have built the vessel ofbestowal.
But we have built this vessel outside the ego; it’s made of our mutual Returning Light, mine and the friend’s. A spiritual phenomenon is revealed inside this vessel, in this field of our mutual efforts, the Direct Light is revealed in the Returning Light.
I am only the body of the spiritual Partzuf, and above me I build a “head” in which all of the Returning Light and the Direct Light is revealed. Of course we need a “body” above which we build the “head.” But the main thing is the “head” that already symbolizes the human level; there is an additional account here.
So our mission is to create this mutual field and to fill the space betewen us with the Returning Light, with bestowal. Then according to the level of bestowal, the level of the Returning Light, Hassadim, with which I fill the world, the Creator is gradually revealed. This is in the same vessels that now seem me as strangers deliberately so that I have to exert myself to bestow upon them.
Imagine what the world would seem to you if you saw all of humanity as your own children, could you work independently? No you couldn’t. You can’t treat your own child as a stranger, and especially cannot hate him. But if you try to treat the friends as your own children, your efforts will bring you the spiritual feeling. This is why we were given the commandment: “Love thy neighbor as thyself.”

A Baby’s First Steps In The Spiritual World

If you don’t have the desire for bestowal, you don’t exist with regards to the spiritual world. Our world exists only thanks to our instinctive desires, but you have to generate the spiritual desire by yourself. You have to reveal it by yourself, to yearn for it.
You exist to the extent that you evoke the desire to bestow within you with the help of envy, ambition, and the influence of the environment. The moment you lose that desire, you immediately disappear and cease to exist. You are simply gone.
We can only get such a desire from the group. This is our collective desire that does not exist in any of us.
By our prayer the Light that Reforms influences these desires and they acquire the right spiritual form of true bestowal. In the meantime, I ask for it in a false manner, even though I am part of a group. I shout that I want to love the friends, to connect with them, but I have to understand that it is all a lie. But it is a genuine lie of a kid who wants to be a grown up! He simply cannot imagine something greater than that.
But thanks to the fact that you seemingly want to bestow, you draw upon you the upper Light that corrects your desire. This is why it is called: “You labored and you found.” You exert yourself to reach the goal but then the Light operates on you and you find something else—a true desire for spirituality.
You begin to weigh how to fulfill the desire that you received and to what extent. You already become wise and work with that desire. You examine it and try it one way or another, by raising a prayer again so that the upper one will teach you and give you an example.
Previously you didn’t want true bestowal, but now that you want it; you ask that the upper one will give you an example of how to do it. Then He reveals itself a bit for you and shows you how to act, and you try to imitate His actions.
After you performed your first action, seemingly successfully, suddenly everything breaks down and falls. It is as if a small kid has inaccurately placed one cube on top of another, and the whole building he has built collapses. Then you cry a little since you didn’t succeed, but thanks to your stubbornness, to the support of the environment, to mutual guarantee, you start all over again!

Gratitude To The Creator Is The Elevator To New Heights

In the article “One’s Future Depends On and Is Tied to His Gratitude for the Past,” it is written: The praise and gratitude that one givesto the Creator for the past expand the feelings, the Kelim, his properties, and his abilities to feel and appreciate in heart and mindthe Creator’s influence upon him. And one is elated by every single point of the interaction between them, begins to feel and understand, attaining to Whom he is presenting the result of his labors, and in accordance with that, by expanding his properties, he soars ever higher to new sensations.
This means that gratitude is necessary for us. We do not influence the Creator, the Light, in any way. We don’t understand what happens within Him further. We speak of these sensations only from our own attainment, from our feelings, from what are, through human language and within our experiences. When we speak about something or someone, we speak of how we envision this object. This is why Creator is called “Boreh”(“Bo” – “Reh”),  “Come” and “See.” It is because when you come to these properties, you discover Him within them, and based on these properties, you render your opinion.
Therefore, gratitude is necessary in order to expand our Kelim and to change their properties.
Each of us has a point in the heart, and right now we are feeling something inside this point. But we cannot sense any picture inside it, since everything is compressed into a single point. We need to expand and unfurl it. How can we do this? On the one hand, we do it through the gratitude to the Creator. But in order for this method to affect us, we need to broaden this point by gathering within ourselves the points of our friends.

Whom Do I Want To Please?

According to the wisdom of Kabbalah the ideal is to “please theCreator.” This means that we have to restrict ourselves and receive the Returning Light, which in turn means to be ready to accept His form in order to bring Him contentment. This is our goal; all the clarifications and all our actions are meant to “please Him.” It’s the same in our world when by wanting to please someone I accept his desires as my own.
But on the whole, the ideal in our world is to “show off” before others, according to their values, whether it’s wealth, respect, control, or knowledge. How do people want to attain success and greatness? They do so by feeling that “I” am important. We can see this clearly in the younger generation that grows with its natural instincts in search of values. By discovering everything that is important for others, the young yearn for success according to the scale of values that society dictates.
So whom do we want to boast before, the environment or the Creator? This is the difference between the world and the one who yearns to correct himself with the help of the wisdom of Kabbalah. We want to advance and to be compatible with the Creator, to be equal to Him, and by that to bring Him contentment. The resemblance is possible only thanks to His force. We have to perform the right actions so that His force will influence us and make us resemble Him.
This work is called “the Torah and commandments.” Torah is the Light that Reforms, which means the Light that corrects us. In other words, we want to correct ourselves and not the world. This is the whole difference between those who deal with the wisdom of Kabbalah and those who deal with any other method.
The wisdom of Kabbalah is the method for the correction of man. A person advances to the level that he corrects himself by becoming similar to the Creator. This is why he needs the wisdom of Kabbalah, the wisdom of the Light. If he doesn’t have the goal of self-correction, he doesn’t deal with the wisdom of Kabbalah, but with something else.
This is where the great difference between all the dealings in the world and the work of people with the “point in the heart” who study and fulfill the wisdom of Kabbalah lies. For them the important thing is the constant internal changes. Others try to improve their lives by using those around them. There is a very big difference here. While the world presents the “moral perception,” we advance according to the method of the Torah, which means according to the Light that Reforms, or in other words according to the method of Kabbalah.

What Does Prayer Begin From?

There is a prayer and there is a plea. A prayer is when man addresses the Creator with his intention, which is already prepared. A plea is when he first asks the Creator to form a prayer for him.
Around two and a half thousand years ago, King David wrote in his Psalms, “Le Maan achai vereai.” It means, “for the sake of my friends, I ask You, and for the sake of the whole of Your creation” (it is called the “home of the Creator” because He later fills it). For the sake of Your home, I ask for You to gather it all together, because Your home must house all nations of the world, as it is said, “For My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.”
We searched for the words with which to address the Creator. However, in reality, we must receive these words from Above. The Light must teach us its language, which is called “the holy language” that is built upon the quality of bestowal and love, contrary to our perceptions and their expressions today. So, in reality, our appeal begins with the plea for correction, a request to change.
In our movement towards the Creator, it’s very important to find and feel reciprocity. There is no Creator without the creation, and there is no creation without the Creator. The Creator is what is being formed inside of us, the quality of bestowal, which manifests into us. It’s a field that is perceived on some matter with that matter being us. That’s why only by having prepared the correct “base,” a place, we begin to manifest, reveal, and perceive what we will be calling the “Creator.” We are talking only about the perception of Him in us. That’s why the Creator is called “Boreh” in Hebrew, from the words “Bo” and “Reh,” meaning “come” and “see.”
Man must control his aspiration to the Creator. If it’s correct, then man feels the aspiration of the Creator towards him. Reciprocity is always there, if that intention is correct, the Light starts to manifest in it immediately. Sometimes it happens to be the opposite, when the Creator corrects us, showing that we are not aspiring towards Him correctly, that it’s necessary to do it from a deeper point in the heart. But we must always aspire to feel reciprocity.
Any plea, any correct approach, if we want it to be in the quality of bestowal, it necessarily must begin with gratitude. Otherwise, it’s simply an egoistic appeal. Even if we are thinking about receiving the prayer from Him, or even if we would have liked to approach Him for the sake of our friends, regardless of whether this appeal is correct, it must begin with gratitude. Only then, on the height of this gratitude can one ask and then this request will be directed further towards broadening bestowal. I am often asked, “What to do if I can’t find anything in myself for which I could be thankful for?” Since as a rule, in the state when man actually wants to ask, he feels bad and heavy.
You need to compare yourself with others and see that you are special; you have been chosen by the Creator. You see what’s going on with the rest of the people to whom He has not given the small perception of Himself, called the point in the heart.
It’s simply a point because we are not yet feeling anything inside of it other that it’s something that belongs to the upper one. That’s why it directs us somewhere forward. If it will widen, then a perception, realization, and revelation will be formed inside of it. For now it’s just a point, but it leads us forward. While for the people who do not have it, unfortunately, it’s much worse.
This means that gratefulness is possible here. Not the egoistic one for the fact that the Creator has made me special, but for the fact that by these means, He entrusts me to think of others. He, Himself, is located in His quality of bestowal and can’t get any closer to the creatures because then they would simply get “tied” to Him; they’d be tied to the Light, to the pleasure, and wouldn’t be able to pass into the quality of bestowal. That is why, through people like us, He gives the possibility to get closer to others and to gradually explain to them about contact with the upper force.
However, no matter what may happen, it’s very hard for us to go forward, although we know that everything comes from the Creator and everything is corrected by the Creator, the Light. Yet, our approach to Him must be formulated from us, but it’s also being formulated under the influence of our appeal to Him. That is called a prayer, or the preparation to a prayer: “Give us the possibility to correctly address you and ask correctly. Give us the possibility to ask not for ourselves as much as it is possible, to feel others, in order to ask on their behalf.”

The Man In The Person

Question: How does the “point in the heart” grow? What is it composed of? What is the man in a person composed of?
Answer: The “point in the heart” is our launching point from which begins the birth of the Human Being, like from a drop of semen. All the rest, which he takes from his environment, from his friends, joins this point in the heart.
Question: What do we take from the environment?
AnswerOne only needs to take the positive attributes. Since Arvut (Mutual Guarantee) was created in order to take from the environment all that is positive within it.
Question: How can a person measure his point and measure that he already has a microscopic man within him and that he is growing?
Answer: It’s according to how much he connects with the group and works with them for connection and unity. In the end, all that happens in the connection joins his point in the heart.
Question: You said that the Creator gives forces, He takes forces, and the man feels like a rag that waves in the wind.
Answer: The Light gives and takes forces according to the man’s actions. If a man feels like a rag, then that’s already good; It’s a sign that from this moment on, he’s able to be something other than a rag.
At first there’s the recognition of evil, meaning that his ego directs him. Later another stage of recognition of evil occurs when he understands that if he is an egoist, then he is played with from Above and is shaken until all the rubbish in the rag is released. And afterward he begins to understand what belongs to what, and then he acquires free choice and tries together with the society to solve this problem.
