Man—The Highest Level Of Nature

709Question: Why is man the crown of nature? Perhaps there are more highly developed beings in nature and our life depends on them?
Answer: We see from our system of knowledge and sensations that man is the highest being.
Although, of course, we can hardly be called the crown of nature because our egoism destroys everything. But within the system of inanimate, vegetative, animate, and human nature, man is the peak of creation, harmful and very flawed, but the peak nonetheless. If he corrects himself, and he can change himself, then he will truly be the pinnacle in every sense.
We humans are the ultimate goal of creation, not in our present form, but in the one that we can and must achieve.
This form of existence will be achieved when we overcome our egoistic nature that we were born with and have developed in. Therefore, we must come to its realization as evil, the opposite of the general system, the common integral desire.
When we correct our egoistic desire to an altruistic one, our distance and separation to connection and closeness, we will truly become the highest level of nature.

The Time Of The Last Generation Is Coming

laitman_621Comment: Currently there is a lot of speculation about what will happen after the coronavirus. There are a lot of fears, mostly from the fact that there will be no work. People don’t have money right now. They are afraid of new viruses, they are afraid to leave their homes, they are afraid to send children to kindergartens, etc.
Surveys show that few people see the light at the end of the tunnel. Kabbalists say that this is the time of the “last generation.”
Many people are afraid of this word “last” generation. After all, the last one means that there will be nothing after it.
Please explain to ordinary people what the last generation is.
My Response: In the state of the last generation, we gradually prepare ourselves to move to the next state, the state of soul. To do this, it is not necessary to die physically, but simply to start living, to exist in a state of spiritual connection.
A sign of the last generation is that humanity has come close to correcting and getting rid of its egoism.
We will not need to pursue all the material and egoistic values. We will quietly be able to exist very simply, to the point that we will no longer pay attention to material values, to material life. We will only have direction toward the spiritual, meaning the connection between us. We will come to a state where we value only mutual interconnection in each other.
We will begin to work together to be even more than friends, even more than one whole.
Question: Do you think that humanity is now moving in this direction?
Answer: I see it absolutely clearly. Moreover, this movement is quite intense.
Question: You keep saying that nature will make us come to this connection. If we resist it, it will constantly force us. How do I make a person feel it? He needs to feel that he is a complete egoist? Isn’t that what’s important?
Answer: He will feel this as he goes along. On the one hand, he will feel that he has pressure to get closer to others, and on the other hand, when he begins to do this, he will feel the resistance of his egoism. He will understand that what is preventing him from connecting is his ego. As it is, he doesn’t even know where he is, his egoism.
Question: What are the laws of the last generation?
Answer: In principle, these are the laws that come from unity.
Question: A person should understand that there is no other way out?
Answer: Absolutely! We have no other choice. We have already stepped out on the road. There is no turning back now.
Question: So my task now is to agree, accept this, and start moving smoothly, little by little, toward this connection, to start talking and thinking about it?
Answer: Exactly. Understand that everything that exists is integrally interconnected. And we must be mutually connected with each other and with the rest of nature. Until we can love each other so much that “the wolves will dwell with the sheep,” we will not achieve our mission.
In other words, we must lead all of nature to reciprocity and love where all in nature will only care for each other because people care for each other.
Question: Does everything start with people? Is this the top? As soon as a person reaches this state, everything will be settled?
Answer: Yes. If I go to integrality in nature, all of nature will become integral.
A person can already see it from the virus. And the virus won’t let us go so we don’t think we can get out of this business. We must go only to global integral interaction. There we will find a right, good, easy existence. Which means, here we need to reconstruct ourselves.
Question: In order for us to rebuild ourselves, a humane, loving nature can bring us to great pain?
Answer: We, as egoists, do not want to change. It seems to us that a humane and loving nature should accept us as we are. It has created us to be the opposite of our final, correct state, and brings us to it gradually, so that we learn and understand the difference between these states. And then we’ll be adults.

On The Path Of Knowledge

laitman_962.1Question: From your lectures, I understand that there is an animalistic, egoistic nature of a person. There is also the upper force that leads us to the development of our altruistic nature. However, is it possible to attain this force if we do not experience altruism in action?
Answer: It is very difficult, practically impossible. In order to actually realize a connection with the upper force, you need a group. A small group, preferably of ten people, who will engage in the same development as you.
In principle, you need to develop integral qualities within yourself in order to feel what is outside of you. If you do this in a group together with your own kind, then in the correct connection with each other, you will find exactly in your ten those qualities that begin to detect the external force, that is, the Creator, and you reveal Him in the connection between you.
Question: What you do is also a certain way of serving people, where you give them the opportunity to come into contact with the method of Kabbalah. In other words, this is a kind of altruistic path, and it is not limited to the ten. Does it mean that it does not have to be ten people? Can it also be humanity?
Answer: This is still called a ten, whether it is humanity or several people.
Question: As part of our path of knowledge, is one of the points that we are striving to reach some kind of connection with the absolute through understanding Him completely?
Answer: Yes. This is the result of studying and correctly applying your forces in order to fully connect with the upper force.
Question: Is the other point to which we aim finding harmony?
Answer: Attaining harmony is based on the constant revelation that we are in the opposite state to it. However, the yearning should be precisely for harmony, to include all the forces, all the qualities, all the thoughts into one unified whole.
Question: If a person advancing along his path of knowledge came across one or another Kabbalistic form of truth, then is his further service associated with creating a space where other people can also get acquainted with it?
Answer: Of course. This is the general progress, the general correction of the world, its general advancement toward the goal. And the goal is an integral connection between us by the good forces.

Opposition To Unity, Part 4

laitman_563Three Trends in the Development of the Jewish People
Question: Throughout history, three main trends have constantly been manifested in the Jewish people.
The first trend is the preservation and strict observance of the commandments of the Torah in the diaspora. The second is the assimilation of Jews, their becoming similar to the surrounding nations. The third is the preservation of unity when a small group of prophets, sages, or Kabbalists (they were called differently at different periods) tried to maintain unity among themselves and pass the spiritual methodology to others.
These trends exist until today. Can representatives of such different ideologies coexist together?
Answer: Today it is very difficult to talk about any clear division within the Jewish people. Of course, there are religious Jews who in turn are divided into different trends.
There are secular people who have nothing to do with all that, especially in our time, when there is a very strong mixture of everyone with everyone. They were just born as so-called Jews, and on this basis they belong to the people of Israel. What will remain of this cannot even be said.
Between religious and secular people there are still some other small groups.
But in general, this problem is changing its appearance very quickly. No one imagined that American Jews would be so absorbed, so mixed up with the American public. Today, almost 70-80% of American non-religious Jews are in mixed marriages.
Question: What is the meaning of this problem from the point of view of Kabbalah?
Answer: From the point of view of Kabbalah, there is no such problem.
Question: But we said that the purpose of the whole creation is to intermix. What is assimilation?
Answer: From the spiritual point of view, assimilation is the penetration of the idea of genuine, spiritual Judaism into other nations of the world. And they begin to understand that Judaism consists in rising above the egoistic nature of man, above the nature of this world, in order to feel themselves and all of nature in a different way, in the property of bestowal, in the property of connection and love. Then completely different events occur.
Question: That is, intermixture is not a rejection of any external traditions of one’s people?
Answer: No. It is just an intermixture of everyone with everyone. There is nothing special here because in both religious and non-religious families there is no idea of unity, solidarity, of the nation anyway.
Intermixture is a fact that we emphasize in order to simply show very serious internal processes taking place within a nation.

New Life 1246 – Preparation For The Second Wave Of The Coronavirus

New Life 1246 – Preparation For The Second Wave Of The Coronavirus
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi
The virus is teaching us that it is up to us to think about the health of others and to not harm anyone. The problem is that we don’t understand that all of the trouble has come so that we will be more responsible for each other. It is our lack of consideration of one another that is our loss. We overcame the first wave through precautions and then discarded them, so, it is no wonder that a second wave has come. Soon, the world will talk about Israel being behind the spread of the plague. The world requires a mental, not a chemical remedy, which is the right connection between us, and this will extend to the whole world. It is up to us to develop the feeling that all of us are a single soul.

“How Virtual Connection Shapes Our World And Ourselves” (Medium)

Medium published my new article “How Virtual Connection Shapes Our World and Ourselves
There is life before and after the appearance of the global coronavirus pandemic. Our physical world has increasingly transformed into a virtual environment, pointing to what the future holds in store for us. Work, friends, studies, community life — everything is taking on a virtual dimension. How will this affect our interpersonal relations, emotions, and performance? It can affect our lives positively if we use the new technological reality to deepen and enhance our human connection.
The depth of the feeling and intensity of the new virtual connections will nurture the development of new dimensions in our emotions also.
America has become a working-from-home economy with around 42 percent of the U.S. labor force is now working full time remotely as a consequence of the social distancing measures, according to a recent study by Stanford University. The remaining workforce are either essential service employees working on their premises or people who have been laid-off due to COVID-19’s economic meltdown.
The shock waves unleashed by the pandemic continue to hammer the entire world and will change our mindsets forever. The lifestyle we were used to has come to a standstill and staring at our screens now substitutes face-to-face contact. Without our current communication technology, the world would have been thrown into a disruptive global period of isolation.
As we deepen our exploration of virtual communication, we will discover that the new virtual reality is much more practical and economical than the old. Employers can drastically reduce costs while employees can become more efficient and productive. During one day a person is able to virtually meet many more people from far-flung locations, hold meetings, brainstorm, share documents, and execute many other important tasks. The virtual workspace saves travel in traffic jams, nerves and accidents, in addition to the environmental benefits of reduced fuel emissions.
But let’s think for a moment: Isn’t there something missing from a virtual engagement compared to a physical encounter? Through the screen we cannot smell the perfume of the person in front of us or be impressed by luxurious items worn by the person, for example. All of the external trappings become superfluous, irrelevant to our contact.
In this new virtual world, we will develop an inner vision and an inner feeling of others. We will ascend to a higher dimension of life where we will detach ourselves from the physical form of people and connect to their inner essence.
The depth of the feeling and intensity of the new virtual connections will nurture the development of new dimensions in our emotions also. Those already experienced in virtual communication know that sometimes it is precisely in this new kind of connection that one is able to actually express deeper emotion than with physical contact because in a virtual connection people feel safer and can therefore express themselves more freely. In addition, the very knowledge that we are communicating remotely for a limited time can increase the commitment that both parties feel to the meeting, as well as the desire to invest more in it.
Many additional activities can also be carried out in a virtual community life — gatherings, classes, games, and more. With an open mind one can discover within the virtual dimension new opportunities that do not exist in physical engagements.
Although we are in a transition period and concerns naturally arise, over time we will get used to the virtual connection and will not feel that something is missing in it. Virtual connections will gradually spread in all directions — virtual learning, virtual physical activity and more — will be done through the computer and we will feel that we are truly immersed in shared experiences.
Over time, virtual connections will also change us significantly. Gradually, our focus will be focused more and more on the thoughts raised by the person in front of us — on his ideas, desires, plans — and less on his external appearance. As the relationship with the person deepens, his inner image will be revealed in us, and even if we meet physically and discover that he looks different from what we expected, it will not change our impression of him since we had already connected to his inner richness, his special qualities.
In this new virtual world, we will develop an inner vision and an inner feeling of others. We will ascend to a higher dimension of life where we will detach ourselves from the physical form of people and connect to their inner essence. Such a level of connection will fill all the voids and lacks missing from our social life and the world we experience will simply feel much better.
We will sense the inner essence of each and every person and communicate with each other in heart and soul. Every individual in society will feel that he can connect with others in the most internal possible connection, and this will give us a feeling of unlimited bonding by which we will be able to break all the boundaries of perception. In this way, we will break away from all the restrictions we feel today and reach the highest possible state. We will finally use virtual connection not as the end goal, but as the gateway to transcend to the more meaningful human relations of love and unity.

“5 Things We Need To Know In The Days Of COVID-19” (Medium)

Medium published my new article “5 Things We Need to Know in the Days of COVID-19
A woman wearing a mask in the time of COVID-19, walks past Moving boxes stacked in front of an Upper West Side brownstone, waiting for movers to finish packing the belongings of former tenants that have already relocated out of state, New York, NY, July 13, 2020.
Nobody understands it. No one really knows where it came from, how it was made, what is its purpose, how it affects us, why it affects us the way that it does, or how to get rid of it, if there’s even a way. COVID-19 has us cornered, at its mercy, and we’re just waiting for the bell to save us.
The final result of the novel coronavirus pandemic will be a society whose people receive their basic needs effortlessly, socialize with one another throughout their day, and live in peace with each other and with nature.
But in truth, we have a bigger problem than answering these just-mentioned questions. Our problem is our attitude to the virus, because if we change our attitude, we will turn the menace into a blessing.
Below are five things we need to know in order to change our attitude and turn the bane into a boon.
1. The first thing we need to know is that the virus influences more than our bodies. Besides its obvious physical impacts, it is affecting us emotionally and mentally. The virus is changing our psychology. It has forced us into a lockdown and made us re-examine many values that we took for granted. It showed us that it’s OK not to buy or look for shopping opportunities every single moment. It opened our eyes to the people around us, our parents, children, spouses, and friends. It showed us how impatient we are, how caring we are or are not, and how caring or not are our kin.
2. COVID-19 is a teacher of mutual responsibility. Even if I don’t feel sick, and I am young and strong and healthy, I could be a carrier and transmit the virus to my not so young, strong, and healthy parents or grandparents. Therefore, I must avoid hugging them and kissing them, or sending the kids to be with them when I want to get some work done. And I must do that not because I don’t want to catch the virus, but in order not to transmit it to them. Moreover, the authorities tell me that I must apply this approach when I go outside in order not to transmit the virus to others, to complete strangers! This is a completely novel social approach, yet vital in these days of super-contagious bugs.
3. Another very important thing to know is that the virus is restructuring the economy. Like it or not, it is killing consumerism, vanquishing capitalism, and introducing what NY Times columnist Thomas Friedan called jobs that “create more value with hearts and between hearts.” This is not 20th century communism or socialism. It is not an economy that sees everyone as the same. On the contrary, it sees everyone as unique and strives to benefit from everyone’s unique skills and capabilities. Accordingly, it supports the development of each person’s flairs and talents, which one then happily employs to improve society as a whole, while society recognizes each person’s contribution and commends each person for his or her efforts to make the society a better place to live in. In this way, society both benefits from people’s contributions, and people happily contribute because it empowers them, fulfills their dreams, and makes them feel worthy and valuable as human beings.
4. The coronavirus will drive us to perform radical changes in the job market. On the material level, society will see to people’s staples; they won’t need to worry about getting food, water, shelter, healthcare, education, and even recreation. There will be people whose contribution to society will be manufacturing and provision of staples to all. The rest of the people will not sit idle; they will be busy creating “value with their hearts,” as Friedman put it, enhancing social solidarity and cohesion.
5. The final result of the novel coronavirus pandemic will be a society whose people receive their basic needs effortlessly, socialize with one another throughout their day, and live in peace with each other and with nature. Since excessive shopping will not please people anymore, they won’t consume more than they need and will not deplete the planet from its resources. Nature will recover, the climate will return to balance, and people will feel united among themselves and with the whole of nature.

How To Live After The Quarantine?

273.02Question: How does one live after the quarantine? I became afraid to go outside and look at people. And they also look at me somewhat with suspicion.
Answer: I do not see that. At least around me, here. Here, on the contrary, cars are driving again, and people again are scurrying around the streets. However, you can see that they have changed. They are somehow a little bit distanced from each other, they do not jump directly at you, as before.
Perhaps in this way, a person will gradually understand how to relate to others attentively. Although now we behave this way because of the virus, fearing to get infected from someone, but gradually from this state we can come to another one: mutual respect, sympathy, support, and attention.
I like these changes in the world. And we did not pay much for them. When we return to normal life, we will see that we got rid of many completely unnecessary activities and conventions.

Viruses Are Queuing Up

Laitman_632.2Question: How do you see the immediate future of the world; for example, this autumn?
Answer: I don’t think the virus will be gone. It will mutate and change. Nature will start pestering us and forcing us to reflect upon what we should be like in order not to get sick and not to experience these blows. I hope we will learn from nature correctly and behave accordingly.
And the fact that we are now counting how many people have become ill does not matter at all. We must clearly feel that all our problems come only from the wrong mutual relations between us.
Therefore, it does not matter if it is summer or fall. Of course, seasons are important but not essential. All these viruses are standing in line in huge numbers to appear in us.

Giving Life To The Common Soul

laitman_282.01Question: How are the particular and the general connected? If some kind of bacteria that produces oxygen molecules without knowing it has affected our lives so much, then how can each of us affect all of nature?
Answer: I cannot say anything about oxygen molecules. I only know that absolutely all of nature comes from one source and continues its development. Therefore, whatever new forms appear in nature, they are manifested in the fullest mutual connection with each other.
Although we do not feel this and cannot yet discover and investigate, all of nature is absolutely integral, and there is not a single part of it that suddenly begins to develop by itself.
Question: Thanks to some bacteria that lived for, say, two weeks and produced oxygen, thousands of people live today. Is it possible to assume that the meaning of existence of each of us is to give life to some super-being? Or is everyone’s life important?
Answer: The life of each of us is important because we are parts of this super-being, which is called the “soul.” It is one for all of us.

The Inner Meaning Of The Crisis

Laitman_025.02Question: What are the negative and positive during a crisis—the crisis itself or our reaction to it?
Answer: In a crisis, the most important thing is to understand it and react correctly so that it lifts us up.
As I have said many times, “crisis” (mashber) in Hebrew means “birth”—the place where a new person is born.
In fact, the inner meaning of crisis is the birth of something new. Only we don’t feel it, we don’t understand it yet. But I’m sure we will.
We will see how a new, integrally connected humanity is being born before our eyes that has greater understanding that it must live according to other laws and not as before.
Question: After the crisis, will we move to a new spiritual level?
Answer: We have reached this stage, but we have not yet passed it. We have several stages ahead of us. But this new, serious stage that we are currently going through should teach us a lot.
Question: If the crisis is the birth of something new, does it mean that people who died from the coronavirus simply could not live in the new conditions, in harmony with nature? But everything is in the power of the Creator.
Answer: As for the dead, unborn, and those who will be born, we will talk separately. This is a whole system that we will need to master and see where freewill is, why such and such souls are born, what is done with them, etc. We must study this in a common global system.

Attain Paradise While Living In This World

Laitman_507.04Question: The pleasure of connection does not seem very tempting to us. Why? According to the pyramid of desires, it should be the opposite.
When you say that everyone will sit in circles and socialize, it sounds like a joke. For example, in anecdotes about heaven and hell, it is said that in hell it is good, life is raging there, and in paradise everything is so pastoral, phlegmatic: calm, bliss, “spiritual.” Why is this so?
Answer: This is not our idea of heaven and hell. From the point of view of Kabbalah, paradise is the universal connection of mankind and its attainment of the great, unified force of nature, called Shechina. That is what it says: “The righteous sit (that is, they are in a state of Katnut [smallness]) and, being united, enjoy the Shechina (the radiance of unity, perfection, universality of nature).” This is the highest measure of pleasure that creation can experience.
I do not try to lure anyone to me. Let people live and enjoy what they have.
But I want to at least express the true point of view that a person can understand while still living in this world. It is within his power. And I offer it to him.
Question: Is this specially made so by nature that people are not lured by such offers?
Answer: Sure. So that we consciously come to this, ask, demand, and invest in revealing the truth.

Opposition To Unity, Part 3

laitman_746.03Question: What is exile? What is this relationship between people?
Answer: In Kabbalah, the term “exile” refers to exile from the property of bestowal and love, from connection between each other.
If a group that is in some kind of a relationship suddenly begins to feel that it is seized by egoistic desires and people are internally estranging from each other, this means that they are ruled by pharaoh, their egoism. This condition is called expulsion from spirituality. This is not a physical, but a sensory feeling.
Comment: Even from history it is known that during those periods people were practically not exiled physically, and during what are  called the Babylonian, Assyrian exile, people remained in place, and only the ruling elite was exiled.

New Life 1242 – The Ecological Effects Of The Coronavirus

New Life 1242 – The Ecological Effects Of The Coronavirus
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi
Humanity is the only factor in nature that is harmful on the face of the Earth. We are not living as nature intended because our egoism continually grows at the expense of others. Our entire culture is about extravagance; swallow everything, be the biggest, be the strongest, grow, conquer, and enjoy, but this doesn’t bring us happiness. Destructive relationships between humans have a destructive effect on nature. Human beings must position themselves correctly in relation to the natural system. Our entire good future depends on our balance with nature. If we were to relate with nature integrally, not one of us would destroy another.

About Light And Darkness

921The Torah begins with the fact that the Creator created heaven and earth, day and night, darkness and light—opposite states. This is where it all begins.
The Creator always gives day, light. And the night, the darkness, is felt where nothing shines for us. We need to correct this feeling of night, darkness, to bring ourselves to such a state where the darkness shines like light and becomes like day.
It turns out that in any state we must feel the day, the presence of the Creator. If I feel night, darkness, helplessness, if there is no desire, energy, no urge for advancing, for bestowal, love, and unity, that is, for correction and connection into one soul of Adam HaRishon, then I need to correct this state.
It is only in regard to me that this appears as night, darkness, weakness, and hopelessness. I do not expect the Creator to change this state because “He will not quarrel to eternity…” I understand that these states were given to me intentionally so that I could change them by working in a group and praying, demanding my correction, and not asking the Creator to change the world around me.
I must be first in all the changes, and let the force of correction come from the Creator. With regard to the Creator, I always see myself as a criminal in need of correction, and therefore, I am grateful to the Creator for what He does for me. After all, my every state begins with the night, as it is written, “And there was evening and there was morning, one day.”
“Let every day be a new day,” that is, the Creator condenses the darkness for me more and more each time so that I can turn it into the light. If we are corrected, then day shines for us, we have adhesion with the Creator, revelation, attainment, understanding, and connection.
How does one not make a mistake and make sure that this is day and not night? If in this state I want to connect with my friends and the Creator, then this is a day. However, if I have no desire toward this, then this is not a real day, not the day of the Creator, but night, in which I am like a bat that can see at night. Yet, the bat sees only darkness, but thinks it is a day.
We need to clearly understand the difference between a rooster and a bat so that we do not get infected with viruses, such as the coronavirus that we got from bats. For the Creator, only day exists. And the bats that rule at night, that is, the forces of darkness and separation, fall asleep during the day because they are afraid of the real light, the light of bestowal, love, and unity.
We need to bring this light into the world, and then all the symbols and roots of darkness will disappear. The light of the Creator can only be attracted by awakening the light of Hassadim. After all, this is a necessary condition: the light of connection and love, the light of Hochma, will not shine without the dressing of the light of Hassadim. Therefore, first of all, we must take care of the light of Hassadim, the light of bestowal, the mutual embrace.
We do not have the strength to bestow yet, but we really want to achieve it. Having prepared the light of Hassadim, we will pull the light of Hochma through it. This work, when we try to see everything through the light of Hassadim, the light of bestowal to the Creator, is called faith above reason.
However, we appreciate the night as well because it shows us the place where we need to correct our attitude, correct the night. The day and night of the Creator in spiritual work are not light and darkness in the egoistic sense but day and night in the ability to rise above our egoism and achieve bestowal to each other and to the Creator.
What is light and darkness? Light is the force of bestowal. The light of love, the light of Hochma, will not awaken until there is the light of Hassadim. The Creator is revealed only in the light of Hassadim, in the light of bestowal from our side, according to the equivalence of form.
He wants to bestow, and we want to bestow. To the extent that we want to bestow to the Creator, we reveal what the Creator wants to bestow to us. The measure of our and His bestowal determines the condition for the revelation of the light of the Creator. It is like a guest and a host. If the guest has a desire to please the Host, then he allows himself to taste the food prepared by Him.
Spiritual connection means that we take care of each other so that everyone is in bestowal. I ask for others, and it works—the Creator shines through me. We all do this and receive light from the Creator that awakens the force of mutual bestowal in us.
Thus, the light of Hassadim emerges between us within which the light of Hochma manifests. However, in the light of Hassadim, we already feel that we are in a spiritual state. Crimes turn into mistakes, and therefore, we are considered incomplete righteous.
Only our desire, our prayer, can attract the light of Hassadim to us, which can give us the quality of bestowal. We must unite and cry together to the Creator, like chicks in a nest opening their mouths greedily. The main condition is: to aim for Him together, otherwise, it will not be for the sake of bestowal.
If I alone aim for the Creator, I turn into Klipa because I demand for myself. The condition for the right demand for light that will correct me and open my eyes is to ask for everyone. This is a very clear test.
It is said, “Either the society or death.” If I ask for everyone, I receive life, and if I do not ask for the group, I doom myself to death.
Without darkness, there will be no light, and therefore, “There was evening and there was morning, one day.” The Creator created darkness, He did not need to create light because the light is His essence.
Darkness is a special creation created by the Creator. This was not easy to do because darkness is the opposite of the Creator. The Creator has to deal with the states that He hates but He did this in order to enable us to understand the darkness and light and become like the Creator, knowing good and evil.

Are We Fulfilling Our Function?

laitman_547.05Question: Scientists say that the more a society or an organism is developed, the more vulnerable they become.
Now even the smallest blow is very strongly felt by a person. For example, many perceive isolation at home as a strong blow. We have been staying home for a month and we cannot take it anymore! People are going crazy. In the past, they did not go anywhere at all, they lived in their villages and communicated only with fellow villagers.
Is there a connection between egoism and our desires? Are egoism and desire the same thing? Or is it the form of filling a desire called egoism?
Answer: Indeed, people have lived in the same village for generations, without going beyond its borders, and nothing terrible has happened to them. Today, a person lives in a big city and he does not have enough. He gets on a plane and flies to other countries to travel somewhere several times a year. He needs change because his desires change. His desires are growing.
Remark: The concept of egoism comes from the Latin word “ego”—I. It means a person’s behavior, which is entirely determined by the thought of his own advantage and benefit when a person puts his interests above the interests of other people.
My Comment: Absolutely.
Question: Is the fact that a person flies around the world a lot, is engaged in music and art, not called egoism? I cannot harm others with this. Why is this bad?
Answer: Here we are already entering a completely different area.
What is man destined for and does he fulfill his function from the point of view of the system of nature? It may seem that he is a calm, normal person who has not done anything bad in his life. But in fact, he caused great harm to all of nature. Like a screw in a huge machine that does not spin, and the machine is disabled because of it.
So, is he doing something or not? He may say: “I am not doing anything. What do you want from me?” But in fact, his importance is such that the whole machine may not be suitable for proper use because of this small screw.
Question: Do you think that every person living in this world has caused some harm to nature?
Answer: Undoubtedly! Because we are all in an integrated system.
All nature is absolute, integral! All its parts are interconnected. Each of them has its own program, its own goal, which is part of the general program and the general goal of all of nature, which moves like a huge, complex machine. The whole mechanism of nature takes into account the participation of each of us.
Question: What specific harm does an ordinary person living, say, in Latin America cause to all? He does not pump oil, he does not fly to other countries, he does not even use this oil. What harm could he cause?
Answer: He is an integral part of humanity, its small particle, a small screw. He needs to study where and how he must act in order to be connected with all of humanity and fulfill his function. If he does not fulfill this function, he causes harm.

Why Don’t We Feel The Mutual Connection?

laitman_264.01Question: We are all interconnected with each other and with nature. There are certain chains of relationships.
For example, a collision of galaxies causes the formation of stars. Stars cause the formation of iron. Iron flows in our veins, and our hearts beat from this. It is like we are all interconnected by a common heartbeat.
Another chain: thanks to the photosynthesis of bacteria that lived two and a half billion years ago and formed oxygen, we live today.
Another example: there is a common consciousness. Currently people are being born in whom the baggage of experience, knowledge, feelings of past generations has accumulated.
Thus, we are connected by a common breath, a common heartbeat and a common consciousness. And although we understand this, we do not feel it. What other hidden connections exist between us that we don’t know about yet?
Answer: We are connected in one common soul. Our properties, sensations, experiences, thoughts—all this is common.
None of us have anything personal. The only thing that remains for each of us is to connect to a common soul and feel the system of our complete interconnection. And without this, we feel lonely, as sole beings. But this is nothing more than a false idea of our true condition.
Question: What else are we connected with besides thoughts and desires?
Answer: Absolutely everything. There is not a single cell, not a single thought, not a single desire, not a single motivation, nothing that I would have myself without receiving from others or without transforming through myself into others.
Question: Why do we not feel this?
Answer: Because our egoism disconnects us from each other. Although we are completely dependent and integrated into each other, we do not feel so. Egoism, as it were, takes away our consciousness, and we do not understand that we are in an absolute, complete, perfect connection with each other.

21st Century Woman, Part 1

Laitman_514.02History recognizes many women who were pioneers that paved the way, made changes in the world, and laid the foundation for a more progressive society. Heroic efforts were usually required for a woman to break through prevailing stereotypes and go against accepted norms and cultural traditions.
And yet, history was written basically by men, and there are very few female names in it. Women always remained in the background. After all, history develops in accordance with the general structure of society, the universe, the entire creation, which consists of ten Sefirot.
This structure develops from top to bottom from the Sefira Keter to Malchut. And although everything is intended for Malchut, for the female part of the structure, until her turn comes, until the whole system develops, the role of women is hidden.
This is visible throughout history among all nations and at all times. Only among the people of Israel, has the role of a woman always been more pronounced than that of others as evidenced by these names from the Tanakh: Eve, the wife of Adam, the great women prophetess Batya, the daughter of the Pharaoh, who raised Moses.
“Batya” means “the daughter of the Creator” (bet-yod-hei—ב-×™-×”), which speaks of her highest destiny. The Torah (Five Books of Moses) tells about many women who have a special role in history, and always positive.
And during the 2,000 year-long last exile, the role of women went into even greater concealment. To the extent of the depth and the length of the exile, to that extent, the role of women remained in the shadows. And now, as we move out of this exile, women are getting more and more freedom and increasingly important roles. Particularly large changes occurred in the last, 20th century, and even more so today in the 21st century, when women are becoming a dominant part of development.
This is very noticeable in the modern world where so many women occupy leadership positions in enterprises and even as heads of states. Not only is female power growing, but the image of a woman is becoming increasingly important. As a result, we see that the whole world exists in order to raise Malchut, the female part, according to the model of the upper world.
And although Malchut was always concealed because it is the last Sefira, at the last stage, it becomes the most important, leaves concealment, and becomes revealed in the reflected light up to Keter itself. It turns out that the role of women is the most important. And although it is written that “All the glory of the king’s daughter is inside,” since she has been hidden the whole time, now she comes to the forefront and begins to reveal herself as the most important part.
I think that the 21st century will provide women with more time and space so that she can move forward and learn about her role in correcting the world. Such women can lead the world to the sublime goal before us.
In earlier times, the development of women was always late relative to the overall development. The fact is that woman belongs to the tenth part of the general structure. Keter, Hochma, Bina, Hesed, Gevura, Tifferet, Netzach, Hod, Yesod, and the last, Malchut, is the female part of the soul. But when Malchut begins to receive, when there is already restriction, screen, and reflected light in which Malchut reaches Keter, then the light comes and illuminates all the Sefirot. The direct and the reflected light are connected together.
And before that, humanity was dismissive to the role of the woman and did not value her dignity. But all this must be corrected in our days as we come to the last stage in which a woman must grow up and show herself.
A qualitative change occurred already in the 19th century, and female power began to break forward. Women received the right to vote in elections, access to higher education. This promoted not only women themselves but society as a whole, its lower social strata. The woman not only enters the historical, social, government stage but also pulls up the weak social strata, which could not have risen otherwise.
A woman changes everything. We must only give a place to one woman, allow her to prove herself, and the whole life changes. And our time is special in that we are coming to the end of the correction of the world. A lot still needs to be corrected, but we are already at the finish line. And therefore, the role of women is becoming more and more noticeable day by day.
A woman will demand more and more because her natural forces are pushing her. And on the other hand, the male half of humanity will bow more and more to women. Therefore, it is necessary to explain to a woman her role and duty to fulfill it, and to not neglect her.
If women do not fulfill their leading role, they seem to leave it for men. But men can no longer act as they did before. It turns out that men are no longer acting, and women are not acting yet, and we fall between two chairs, which is very dangerous. These are the times we are entering today.
