Will Artificial Intelligence Replace People?

laitman_256Question: It is claimed that soon automation and robots will displace most working professions and people will be left with only creative professions. What is your opinion about this?
Answer: This is the natural way of advancement. In our time, technology, automation, and robotics are taking the place of human labor. While in the past machines performed only mechanical actions, now they can take on tasks that match human logic and provide technological guidance. It is possible to see ships, airplanes, and missiles run automatically. Soon cars will travel on the highways without drivers. This doesn’t require special understanding or technology, but only sensors, guidance, and coordination. The person will be totally freed for the necessary spiritual work.
Question: What will happen if artificial intelligence becomes higher than human intelligence? They say that this will happen in the next ten years.
Answer: This will indeed be higher; already a computer calculates faster than a person. But we are not talking about that, but about spiritual attainment. The computer can never replace people in spiritual work. Everything else is corporeal and the normal functioning of life that can be easily programmed and connected to a machine.

laitman_610_1Is It Possible To Decode The Spiritual Gene?
Question: Does the spiritual system include in itself all people’s desires that were ever realized or will be realized? Does it mean that every desire that appears in me comes from this spiritual system that defines what I want at the moment? Does it control our entire life?
Answer: The spiritual system controls our entire life 100 percent.
Question: Is there a spiritual DNA in every person?
Answer: Of course, otherwise there wouldn’t be material DNA. Spiritual DNA connects me with the spiritual system.
Question: Does it drive us as if by remote control?
Answer: No, it isn’t far away, we exist right within this system. It isn’t in some other place, but between us and inside us, connecting us with each other. There are no concepts of time, movement, space, or distance in spirituality.
Question: Is it possible to read spiritual DNA the way geneticists decode material genomes? What information is recorded there?
Answer: The entire path that I need to go through from this moment to my final correction is recorded there. Final correction is such a state where everybody is connected together above egoism into one desire that is called a man, Adam.
Our spiritual DNAs are in one system and influence each other. Therefore, we in this world enter various relationships that, unknowingly to us, the spiritual DNA dictates.
In the corrected system all desires are connected so that each one completes all others. We are talking about desires, not about bodies. The body will die sooner or later, and so what? And our desires connect into one system that is called Adam.
Question: And does a desire of a person die?
Answer: No. Desire is a force and a force doesn’t die. It continues to reincarnate in different bodies.
Question: Which one is more important and in control, spiritual or material DNA?
Answer: Spiritual DNA controls everything, including material DNA.

New Life #744 – Our Spiritual DNA

New Life #744 – Our Spiritual DNA
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz
Summary
The cradle of ancient civilization originated in ancient Babylon. From there humanity scattered all over the Earth and people were influenced by the places in which they settled. In those times, religion connected people from different lands. But ultimately most people left ancient Babylon so all included everyone.
All of us contain additional information beyond the physical DNA. We call this spiritual DNA or a Reshimo (reminiscence). This spiritual DNA is the root of the soul and is part of the spiritual system called Adam HaRishon (the First Man). The spiritual DNA, theReshimo, is the data within a person’s desire that determines how this desire will develop. For example, the spiritual information that is said to be realized in a child is what causes his parents to mate and give birth to him.
The spiritual system determines what will happen to every individual desire at every moment on the way to the completion of correction of the system. It manages us through the spiritual DNA that is implanted in us. The entire way through which a person must pass until the completion of correction, the end of correction, is recorded in the spiritual DNA. This is the state in which all desires are connected and all of them complement each other.

Do Not Lose Connection With The Creator

laitman_546_01Torah, “Deuteronomy,” 7:02 – 7:04: Neither shall you make a covenant with them (with other nations), nor be gracious to them. You shall not intermarry with them; you shall not give your daughter to his son, and you shall not take his daughter for your son. For he will turn away your son from following Me, and they will worship the gods of others, and the wrath of the Lord will be kindled against you, and He will quickly destroy you.
A person can’t make any concessions with egoism, no connection, no partial solutions. He should completely kill egoism, rise above it, stop using it in its natural form, and use it only after the first restriction with the screen, with the Returning Light, for bestowal and love.
Question: What does it mean “you shall not take his daughter for your son”?
Answer: Do not leave anything of egoistic origin that eventually will manifest in you as your corrupted quality. Then you will lose connection with the Creator and won’t be able to continue fighting for the purity of your correction and rise spiritually.
To marry a son to a daughter of an alien people means to allow some contact with egoism in the future. There can’t be the Creator in this action. Therefore it is said that it “will turn away your son from following Me, and they will worship the gods of others.”

What The Laws Of The Torah Say

Laitman_137Question: Why is simply learning about the practical laws from the book, Shulchan Aruch not enough for fulfilling the Torah andMitzvot (commandments)?
Answer: Because not only to perform them, but even to receive the Torah, we must be “as one person with one heart.” How can we say today that we are fulfilling the laws of the Torah?! We first must yearn to attain the conditions for their implementation or at least yearn for unification. And then we will find out that all the laws of the Torah speak about how to attain unity.
Receiving the Torah is only the beginning of its fulfillment. After having received it,egoism begins to be revealed more and more and we must increase the unity between us. That is how our common heart grows until it will include everyone within it.

Introduction To Kabbalah

Laitman_065Question: Does studying the wisdom of Kabbalah change a person into a lazy super-egoistic person, yearning only for involvement with spirituality and no desire to work in the physical world?
Answer: When a person reaches the wisdom of Kabbalah, it grabs him and pulls his heart so much that he cannot be involved with anything else.
I discovered the wisdom of Kabbalah when I was the manager of a dental clinic that employed 11 doctors and other technical staff. It became very difficult for me to manage the business because I was suddenly immersed into an area that opened a new world in front of me. Even though nothing was clear to me about the wisdom of Kabbalah, this “void” and “emptiness” sparkled and attracted me.
A person begins to discover how this world was created, from where the laws appear in it, what their results are and what is happening with him. Everything that the wisdom of Kabbalah reveals to the person is truly amazing. Moreover, it is revealed in a very concrete and clear form.
A person acquires an absolutely precise view of the world that not even any science provides. Everything else falls from his mind and becomes completely unimportant to him, including this world. In general, the first few months of familiarity with the wisdom of Kabbalah go by like a “rosy mist.” After that the mist gradually dissipates and a gradual sobriety begins. The person somehow begins to find his way around.
It means that the first familiarity with the wisdom of Kabbalah amazes and confuses a person because the next more external sphere relative to our world appears before him. After that he gets used to it, even though it actually could take a long time. Meeting the upper world shocks a person no less than the initial introduction to the wisdom of Kabbalah.

The Future Work Of Humanity

laitman_938_01Comment: People don’t have enough time. They have no time for themselves. We cannot imagine a life without work. Even when we are getting to know someone, the first thing we ask is, “What do you do, what is your profession?”
Answer: We are the ones who have made our lives like this. Today with the help of machines and automation we produce 100 times more products than 100 years ago. And what is it for? All is specifically arranges so that a person will be busy working 8-10 hours a day and the rest of the time on the road with very little time at home.
But this trend is gradually disappearing. If we talk from the point of view of the wisdom of Kabbalah, soon a person will be completely freed from professional work. Instead he will be busy with self-education.
Popular universities will begin to function everywhere in which the entire population of the planet, from the young to the elderly, will go through learning in the form of conversations, lectures, unity exercises, upbringing, and education. From morning to evening a person will be engaged with personal development, a little physical labor, but mostly spiritual work.
This will become the main work of humanity since by being involved with it we are drawing to ourselves the positive energy of nature in its maximal size and good quality.
Question: When you say “spiritual” do you mean relationships between people?
Answer: Yes. But these mutual relationships are built through mutual association, integration, the approach of all people toward each other, when we see ourselves as broken into fragments like screws or parts and components of one gigantic and harmonious mechanism called “Adam.”
To the degree that we accommodate every part to every other part, we succeed in properly assembling this common mechanism; we feel how in our more or less correct association a unique power begins to be awakened, the power of connection, the power of mutual cooperation, which is called the Creator.
Then all of the feelings and emotions that appear between people on the street, in traffic, and at work will receive absolutely different significance and power. A completely different incentive for living in connection between us will appear.
This must begin now because the whole world is going toward this, to show humanity how much our egoistic development based upon mutual distance and competitiveness is destroying us and plunging into nothingness.

Literature And The Wisdom Of Kabbalah

laitman_525Question: I think that without the literature I read before beginning to study the wisdom of Kabbalah, I would not understand and not internally grasp the wisdom of Kabbalah that is close to me. Even Baal HaSulam read novels and historical works. What is superfluous and what might aid development?
Answer: I don’t say that it you shouldn’t be involved with anything or not read anything. I simply warn you in advance that studying the wisdom of Kabbalah will narrow your interests to a certain well-directed path. So he will go on a path from which it is already difficult to deviate because all of his thoughts and yearning will be directed only toward revealing the Creator.
But through attaining the Creator he will understand everything else. Harmony will unfold in front of him as in music, literature, and art. He will begin to see an inner meaning in everything, the inner drive of great people, writers, artists, and composers who created those works. Everything will move into his inner sensations and it is doubtful that he will have a need for anything on the outside.
So the wisdom of Kabbalah doesn’t limit a person, rather it makes possible the correct approach to life.

The Genetic Map Of Humanity, Part 3

Laitman_633_3Spiritual DNA
Question: Does spiritual DNA also affect our life the same way the material does?
Answer: If the spiritual DNA is revealed in a person during one of the life cycles, it definitely affects his destiny. A person begins to realize this spiritual gene. After all, this desire that has been revealed in him now, the desire for spiritual attainment, the new goal that is above this material life, definitely changes everything.
Question: It is known from genetics that innate qualities recorded in DNA define what will develop in a child. Are there any other genes in a human?
Answer: Yes, there is also a spiritual DNA. The spiritual gene, Reshimo, is an informational charge that is included in every person, or rather in his or her desire, and defines in what form this desire will develop.
Question: Is this information recorded in a person at his birth?
Answer: Even before that. After all, if a drop of semen begins to develop, it means there was spiritual information that caused this development. Exactly this information leads a man and woman to copulation, instills in them a desire to have a child or arranges an unplanned pregnancy for them.
There is a spiritual system that determines how each desire included in it must develop. Desires are connected in one network that is required to achieve a given state called final correction. This network consists of many desires that belong to all the people in the world.
This network is advancing in its development all the time. Based on this, it decides what will happen with each separate desire at the moment, whether to leave it without implementation in this world or to implement it as a person, man, or woman, and in what form.
It turns out that the spiritual system determines the form of our material life on this earth based on the need to reach the end of its correction in perfect form.

New Life #743 – Declining Birth Rates And Human Evolution

New Life #743 – The Decline In Birth Rate And The Evolution Of Mankind
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel
Every phenomenon, including the lack of the desire to have children, is a result of our attitude for our development. Technology eliminates the need for a family.
Summary
There is an internal program in nature that advances us. The steamroller of evolution pressures us and different processes take place whether we like it or not.
In the future we will not have to work so hard in order to survive and then the question of what are we living for will arise. Nothing that happens naturally is tragic. We simply have to explore where nature is leading us. On our next level of evolution man will want to penetrate the great “computer” of nature.
The future generation will desire to reproduce through internal and spiritual connectionwith all of mankind. This will be a new kind of evolution. By connecting our desires and our thoughts we will become one man. This will not happen by technology such as artificial intelligence and such but by our internal development.
In the future all our needs will be provided and all we will have to do is to find out what we truly need. An internal revolution!

Going With The Power Of The Creator

laitman_746_03Torah, “Deuteronomy,” 7:07 – 7:09: Not because you are more numerous than any people did the Lord delight in you and choose you, for you are the least of all the peoples. But because of the Lord’s love for you, and because He keeps the oath He swore to your forefathers, the Lord took you out with a strong hand and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. Know, therefore, that the Lord, your God He is God, the faithful God, Who keeps the covenant and loving kindness…
We must not forget that the Creator leads us out of the egoistic state and that we go forward with His power. Therefore, at each degree we must move only in conjunction with Him.
We must hold Him inside us to be in a definite connection with Him. And to control this connection is possible only to the extent that we have connection with friends in thegroup, with my people because the people of Israel is a group united in one direction—to reveal in its unity the quality of mutual bestowal and love. And then in this quality the upper force, i.e., the Creator is revealed.
This is our goal, which should always be kept in mind. And then we will be moving forward correctly and will implement what is said in the Torah.

The Main Task Of Our Times

laitman_938_01Question: I am 55 years old, have a Master’s Degree and successful management experience. What must I learn in the framework of Integral Education and who are the educators who can teach me something? What kind of knowledge do they have that I don’t?
Answer: Even if you had all the higher degrees in the world, this is not what you must learn in the “university of life”! In those integral education and training courses that will permanently influence the entire population of the world, only a small percentage of the population of the world needs to be involved in public works.
According to statistical studies, if we were to stop manufacturing products that are completely unnecessary, with which we confuse and stupefy each other’s minds, and we were to be involved only with necessary production for building our lives rationally without luxuries, we would see that around 80% of the population of the world would be freed from the need to produce and do something.
We are advancing toward learning the most desired profession, the most desired business, and the correct unification of all of humanity. Humans are the only creatures in the world in which the ego, lack of love, and even hatred toward others “burns,” while the movement of nature is aimed toward gathering us together into a single whole.
From year to year, nature is showing us more and more that we are in a mutually linked integral system. So through disasters, social problems, family problems, and wars, nature will force us to reach the necessity of connection between us so that humanity will acquire an integral, united form, like nature itself, becoming like it. This is what we must learn.
We see what is happening in Europe as a result of their egoistic attempts to connect; they are holding onto each other so much that they cannot separate peacefully. This approach is leading them toward death. That is how it is all over the world; either you enter into some kind of unity and then discover how incorrect and bad that unity is, or you don’t unite and nature and natural evolution will push you toward this anyway.
The human ego has evolved to such a dimension that it pushes us away from each other, while nature is forcing us to unite. These two opposing forces, the centripetal and centrifugal forces, influence humanity in such a form that it feels as if it is in a vise. And here we are already talking about survival.
So in our time the wisdom of Kabbalah has been revealed. It explains how we must connect and unite to resemble nature, to reach agreement with each other, and to achieve a reasonable existence. This is the main task of our times. But to carry this out, we must study many hours every day for this study to actually work. By learning how to connect with each other, we begin to discover the positive force that exists around us. As of today we have no possibility of discovering it; we don’t have that detector, apparatus, or device which can reveal it.
When we begin to connect and unite correctly according to what the wisdom of Kabbalah dictates to us, we will immediately see how the force that carries out all the positive actions appears in us, both among us and in the whole world on the level of the animate, vegetative, and still. Then everything will calm down and reach a general balance to the same degree that a person balances himself and compels all of nature toward this.

The Genetic Map Of Humanity, Part 2

laitman_553Hidden Gene
Question: Is there something in the genes of human DNA that is known to the wisdom of Kabbalah, but not to geneticists?
Answer: There is an additional spiritual charge that remains a mystery to a regular person.
For example, in the people of Israel in different generations were people who weren’t born Jewish but joined the nation and became very significant individuals in it, although initially they seemingly had no Jewish genes. There were many such cases, especially in the times of the Temple.
Consequently, this information is not necessarily transmitted through the physical body, through parents. There is a part of spiritual information in it that leads to inner spiritual development and obliges a person to fulfill his destiny without any connection to the parental home.
For example, the parents of Rabbi Akiva weren’t Jewish by birth and converted to Judaism later. But it didn’t prevent their son from becoming a great Jewish sage, one of the greatest in the history of Israel. And where did it come from? It turns out that we can’t judge the spiritual DNA, the root of the soul, according to the material DNA.
The root of the soul is part of the system of Adam HaRishon. Adam is not a person, but a spiritual system in which we all are included through our corrected desires. And then we all unite into one spiritual body. Such a spiritual body, where all parts are in harmony with each other is called Adam, the first man.
If every person corrects his desires and is ready to unite with the same corrected desires of other people, seeking to unite like brothers into one body, one desire, then we all are connected.
And then inside this connection we feel the first man, Adam HaRishon, the joint desire assembled from many private desires. Each one annulled his egoism and connected with others above it in order to be with them in one desire, like in one body.
There are such souls, separate parts of Adam, who very much aspire for this unity, and they are considered to be high souls. And there are those who are not very eager for it, and even those that are completely indifferent to it.
Such a spiritual gene, called, Reshimois present in every human being in the world, the desire for unity: positive, negative, or zero.

Who Makes A Choice?

laitman_236_01Torah, “Deuteronomy,” 6:14 – 6:15: Do not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples who are around you. For the Lord, your God, is a zealous God among you, lest the wrath of the Lord, your God, be kindled against you, and destroy you off the face of the earth.
Question: What does it mean “do not go after other gods”?
Answer: The fact is that if you follow egoism, then you follow Pharaoh who represents all by saying “Who is the Creator that I should listen to Him?” This is the reverse side of the Creator that He himself exhibits in front of us so that we would understand that the quality of love and bestowal is higher than the quality of egoism.
And so they work one against the other. Actually the Creator builds from a reverse, and we exist relative to it.
And what do we choose? He gave us organic, natural inclinations so that we would choose Pharaoh and we would have freedom of choice for it.
But when does it appear? After all, if I constantly rush to Pharaoh, am I in free choice with respect to the Creator? What does freedom mean? And what does choice mean? What are these states when I make decisions independently?
I suppose that if one thing is bigger than another from my point of view, I always choose the one that is bigger. And if they are equal, I don’t know what to choose. So in what sense do I choose?
The choice happens when I still don’t know which one is bigger and which one is smaller. It means that there is no choice as such; there is work in order to study and analyze what I should choose, what is really bigger.
When we attempt to do this we come to a state from which there is no escape. And then we have the one and only option: to cry out for the Creator. That’s when the Creator makes a choice, and not us.
Therefore our choice is only to turn correctly, according to the Kabbalistic principles to the only one that exists, controls, and fills everything, the upper force, and ask it for at least some minimal revelation, so that it will help us to advance correctly at least one step forward.

A Cure That Always Works

laitman_599_02Question: In response to your article “…Or Terror Wins” on Snob, Sergey Muroshav quoted from your article: “’It’s time to apply the unfailing remedy that will cure disease once and for all. A healing system that balances the forces that act upon us and make it possible for us to monitor them with understanding.’
And he asked, “Um…
“Is there such a tool in nature? Other than the indiscriminate destruction of all mankind?”
Answer: Yes, there is a natural remedy for correcting our nature, but we need to use this remedy wisely, otherwise nature will not annihilate us but will lead us through various torments to force us to use the remedy that will correct us. The method for correcting our nature is called, the wisdom of Kabbalah. Its common name is the method of connection and unity.
It amounts to a few simple actions:
  1. Between 5 to 10 people sit in a circle.
  2. Getting acquainted isn’t necessary; this is a distraction and has no relation to the purpose.
  3. The facilitator explains the method and everyone follows it.
  4. Each one tries to express himself more modestly, quietly, and less than the others in the circle.
  5. Each one tries to imagine that the others in the circle have better qualities than he has, that they are apparently greater than he is.
  6. Each one tries to treat everyone else as an equal.
  7. Each one tries to imagine that they are all yearning for the center of the circle, the connection of everyone in a single point.
  8. Everyone tries to attain a feeling of unity until they really lose their sense of self.
  9. They try to feel the warmth and power that is revealed in the center of the connection between everyone.
As similar exercises are repeated, this force will be revealed more and more and will be felt closer and will be more understandable. Through its help, gradually each one will be able to balance his egoistic characteristics and drives. In this manner, you will be able to explore the good force that you discover together with the circle of friends and discuss, study, and explore its practical manifestation in you.
This is the revelation of the Creator to the creatures in our world … The study of this phenomenon in itself—is a long process, it reveals a person’s inner world. The fact is that, while we were composed of a single force, egoistic, we could not feel:
  1. where we are
  2. what we were without it.
But as soon it begins to emerge, the second force in us begins to open our image and our world—it is called the soul, and the upper world.
The method of discovery, the wisdom of Kabbalah, explains:
  1. The states that we go through and how we must direct ourselves toward deepening the discovery of the new world. This part of the wisdom of Kabbalah is called “inner work.”
  2. The states we go through, how they are formed in us, how we can manage them, and so on.
In fact, this is the wisdom of Kabbalah itself. Similar to physics or any other science, it explains the integration of two forces to us, the natural egoistic force and the force that is acquired in a circle, the higher, altruistic force, and all the possible kinds of mutual cooperation between them. The difference is only that the study and investigation is done on the person himself and not on an external object. So it is a discovery that is only for you and not for anyone else except you. The participants in these circles exchange impressions and keep track of their correspondence in the textbook.
All of this is learned in the framework of our International Academy for the Wisdom of Kabbalah.
The textbooks of the wisdom of Kabbalah were written over thousands of years ago and they are called “The Secrets of Jewish Teachings.” They are called secrets, not because they are concealed, but because they are discovered through the practical effort of the person himself. Even though the other matter is also correct, specifically in our day, because humanity has reached the end of its egoistic development, the wisdom of Kabbalah is being revealed to all people. Before then people were simply not sufficiently disappointed with life such that the question about the meaning of life really interested them.

Karl Marx On The Jews

laitman_626Question: Karl Marx wrote in, “On the Jewish Question,” “Money is the jealous god of Israel, in face of which no other god may exist. Money degrades all the gods of man – and turns them into commodities. Money is the universal self-established value of all things. It has, therefore, robbed the whole world – both the world of men and nature – of its specific value. Money is the estranged essence of man’s work and man’s existence, and this alien essence dominates him, and he worships it.
“The god of the Jews has become secularized and has become the god of the world. The bill of exchange is the real god of the Jew. His god is only an illusory bill of exchange. …
“Judaism could not create a new world; it could only draw the new creations and conditions of the world into the sphere of its activity, because practical need, the rationale of which is self-interest, is passive and does not expand at will, but finds itself enlarged as a result of the continuous development of social conditions. …
“Only then could Judaism achieve universal dominance and make alienated man and alienated nature into alienable, vendible objects subjected to the slavery of egoistic need and to trading.
“Selling [verausserung] is the practical aspect of alienation [Entausserung]. Just as man, as long as he is in the grip of religion, is able to objectify his essential nature only by turning it into something alien, something fantastic, so under the domination of egoistic need he can be active practically, and produce objects in practice, only by putting his products, and his activity, under the domination of an alien being, and bestowing the significance of an alien entity – money – on them.
“The social emancipation of the Jew is the emancipation of society from Judaism.”
Question:  How is it possible to blame an entire people and compare it to the rest of the people?
Answer: As a scholar, Karl Marx was working completely logically and correctly maintained that specifically for Jews there are characteristic traits and the most egoistic behavior.
And it cannot even be otherwise because specifically this group of people was on a high spiritual level in the past from which it fell below everyone through their damagedegoism. That is also what is said in the Torah, if the Jews ascend, they rise higher than anyone. But if they fall, they fall below everyone. In absolute, (absolute value), their ego is the greatest!

Silver And Gold

laitman_571_04Question: What is the spiritual root of money?
Answer: Money in Hebrew is called Kesef. It has a double meaning: It refers to silver (Kesef) and cover/coating (Kissufim). If I have enough to cover my needs, it is called money (Kesef).According to the degree that we can cover (Kissui) our needs, we can fulfill our desires. The word “Kesef “ is of Eastern origin (Kesef, Tanga), coming from the southern periphery of Russia.
In our times, money can be virtual, and Jews once paid only with silver. In the Torah, it is mentioned that Abraham weighed out 400 Shekels of silver for the Cave ofMachpelah in which he buried his wife.
The Torah speaks specifically about silver and not gold because silver is considered to be the property of Binabestowal, while gold is considered to be the property of reception. In itself, gold symbolizes greed and avarice, while silver symbolizes Atzilut, generosity, giving, and bestowing.

According To The Laws of Spiritual Development

laitman_933Torah, “Deuteronomy,” 6:10 – 6:13: And it will be, when the Lord, your God, brings you to the land He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you, great and good cities that you did not build, and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and hewn cisterns that you did not hew, vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant, and you will eat and be satisfied. Beware, lest you forget the Lord, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall fear the Lord, your God, worship Him, and swear by His name.
If we argue from the point of view of an ordinary person, haven’t we earned the land of Israel by being in slavery in Egypt for 400 years and then wandering in the desert for 40 years, “Have I received it for free? I spilled so much blood for it, suffered so much.”
But spiritual work is completely different from what it seems to us. Everything that is described in the Torah happens within us to the extent that we seek to unite with each other. By revealing stronger connection we get closer to the land of Israel in it.
The land of Israel is this common desire that we acquired the first time as an egoistic desire in Egypt, when we were connected only by the desire to exist for the sake ofegoism, i.e., for the sake of Pharaoh.
We constantly fulfilled this desire, allegedly enriching Egypt, until our egoism swelled so much that we saw how it buries us in it and kills us. And then through the ten plagues that the Creator brought upon us, we cried out to the Creator and asked to exit the slavery.
All our work was that we were shouting, asking the upper force of love and unity to pull us out of our egoistic separation and mutual hatred. We were coming to it also during the forty-year journey through the desert, when we didn’t yet work with egoism in order to unite in it, but were only rising above it.
Through completely breaking away from Egypt and rising above egoism we enter the land of Israel, i.e., egoism itself, in order to convert it into the quality of bestowal and love. And when this great desire called Pharaoh or Egypt is transformed into this quality, it is already called the land of Israel.
Therefore, all the names of places mentioned in the Torah do not relate to geography; they are within us, inside our enormous egoistic desire that the entire humanity serves to this day.
And now we begin to realize that it is killing us, that we invest our life into this enormous desire and eventually die without leaving anything. So what do we live for? Is it in order to throw ourselves and our children in the crater of an insatiable ugly creature—egoism?
And therefore we decide to rise above it, as it is said, “And the sons of Israel cried out from the hard work.” This is when we receive forces of unity that are above egoism and begin more and more to pull ourselves from egoism during forty years of work in the desert.
And then once above egoism, we create a new strong generation that was born in the desert, we begin to enter egoism, to conquer this land. We descend into egoism and begin to transform and correct it. And this is the entry into the land of Israel.
Thus, every time during ascents and descents the laws are explained to us that are equally revered, but are implemented on completely different material, and therefore we see them in a different way.

Corporeal Activities and Spiritual Advancement

Laitman_049_01Question: Each person has abilities and talents that were given to him from birth. How do we use them correctly in life?
Answer: A person with talents, let’s suppose he is a musician, a painter, or a writer, can certainly combine the wisdom of Kabbalahwith his specific activities, but it is very difficult since he invests both intellect and emotions in his creativity, which in principle he should invest in the wisdom of Kabbalah.
When a person is involved with the wisdom of Kabbalah, in the development of spirituality, he spends a great deal of energy in order to yearn for it, with his heart, his soul, and also his intellect. It doesn’t mix well with such worldly activities like science or art.
Question: Isn’t it possible that these talents were given to a person specifically so that he could apply them in the wisdom of Kabbalah?
Answer: As strange as it might sound, there is no kind of corporeal activity that can be of any use in the wisdom of Kabbalah except for the art of writing and drawing, and also these tendencies must be used only in order to disseminate Kabbalah, for describing it and bringing it closer to people.
Question: What about theater, painting, and sculpture? Especially if it brings joy to thesoul….
Answer: I do not know why people think that the soul is “happy” when it sees some sculpture; I understand that people think of it in this way, but it isn’t the soul.
Observing in this way comes from the physical urges that still control a person, but this will gradually change to a more inner observation.
Man should not in any way destroy, belittle, get rid of, or be ashamed of anything within himself, or blame himself that he still has these urges.
He can enjoy art, literature, music, and anything else, but as a result of the study of Kabbalah, when he begins to come closer to the revelation of the spiritual world, this revelation will be so comprehensive and inclusive, exciting and fulfilling, that he won’t have room in his heart or his mind to be involved with anything else except simple necessary work.
My teacher Rabash explained that the very best thing for a Kabbalist to be was a shoemaker.  He was referring to any monotonous work that allows a person to think about spirituality.
