Be Stiffnecked No More

laitman_221Question: It is written, “You shall circumcise the foreskin of your heart, therefore, and be no more stiffnecked” (Torah, Deuteronomy 10:16). What does being “stiffnecked” mean?
Answer: A person must increase his sensitivity to the things he can correct and act in this direction, not stand stubbornly in one place. In other words, it is necessary to try to be connected to the Upper Light of Hassadim so that it will dilute a person’s qualities and will give him an opportunity to see the best way to use them.
After all, in entering the land of Israel, a person begins to work with his qualities of reception, which are very hard and heavy qualities.
The land of Israel is the heaviest part of the joint Malchut, joint desires, and it isn’t simple to work with them.
Therefore, it is written, “be no more stiffnecked,” don’t be headstrong, but try gradually to dilute, as with water, these huge, difficult-to-correct desires with the Light ofHassadim. Then, you will see that it is possible gradually to work with them.

Absolute Faith

Laitman_043Question: Can the a person’s life be lengthened if he studies the wisdom of Kabbalah and is particularly concerned about not having enough time to attain spiritual perfection in his lifetime?
Answer: That shows an absolute lack of faith!
First and foremost, one needs to free himself from concerns, because if he is under the control of the Creator, and besides Him there is no force, nobody besides Him, and He is good and benevolent, there is no reason for questions of this kind about what will happen to him in another minute and will he achieve something or not.
The condition, “There is none else beside Him” (Deuteronomy 4:35), the absolute good, completely prevents a person from having all kinds of egoistic questions. He is left with only one single question: How can a person become His associate, helper, guarantor to carry out His will in the world? Because I can implement them because I am in this world. We need to ask for only one thing: for the Creator to dictate His desires to us and that we will bring them to all of humanity. This is the function of a Kabbalist or, if you will, a prophet.
Question: Which is to say, a Kabbalist cannot ask for good health for his relatives and for himself?
Answer: If this is imperative, he can ask, but what is the use if the Creator is responsible for it?
If the Creator did that so that a person will ask Him, then he will ask. In other words, it is up to the person to search and understand why all of this is happening and to request to be directed toward the Light and correction.

In A Closed System

laitman_944Question: If we were working in a group ideally to create connection between us correctly, would we then not have any physical suffering?
Answer: Right, but it is not possible to do this work ideally. After all, you are not alone, you are working in a group, and it is connected to all of humanity. So even if someone has small physical desires, he has an influence on us.
We are in one closed integral system, one collective soul, such that what anyone else outside of the group does influences everyone.
Question: Does it follow that I will not be able to build a connection through my intellect, that I will not be able to check and think rationally, why this happened?
Answer: It is possible to calculate everything, but Kabbalists are not involved with that. The wisdom of Kabbalah even forbids doing this because you need to be interested in the result. The result is immediate contact with the Creator. This is greater contact than before, a contact in which you attain all the contrasts and contradictions as they are connected with the beginning and end of creation.

Where Does One Get A Desire For Spirituality?

laitman_238_01Question: What can be done if there is no desire to study the wisdom of Kabbalah and go to a group after many years of study? At first it seemed as if I had found the “philosophers’ stone” and my entire meaning of life was in the wisdom of Kabbalah.
Answer: As long as your ego was interested in studying thewisdom of Kabbalah, you ran to study, you learned its method, and it was very good for you. But today, your ego wants something else and is ready to abandon the study. Do you really think that you can systematically learn and seriously understand the wisdom of Kabbalah like that?! And this is true even for any other science. How could you do it?! You were given an opportunity to understand and know how the world in which you live is constructed, how to transform it into a Garden of Eden! This is for you, personally, for yourself. Do you want it? Go on. No? Unfortunately, I cannot give you a desire.
I can give only one piece of advice: you must play one against the other. Give an example of your greatest desire to one another. You must see how important it is to you to discover the meaning of life, its purpose, and its secrets!
Do not delay, but be sure to understand! This is a great truth, the truth! Latent in it is a characteristic that is so important to the world for attaining balance and a good future for you and for your children. Which is to say, you are involved in the most important and most interesting and secret wisdom that is gradually revealed to you. Have you lost your patience? You need to get it from the environment.
It is said, “buy yourself a friend” (Pirkei Avot 1:6). In a good and proper relationship with him, you can acquire his desire from him and continue to study, and you will have no need for anything else. You will begin to discover the upper world in the connection between you, and there you will gradually, as from a well of living water, begin to notice in the upper world how more and more future actions and events in our world are born within you. You will see yourself and your friends in a perfect state there.

The Eternal Struggle Between Fathers And Sons

laitman_543_02
Question: There is a negative relationship between my grown son and I. What should I do if I want to make contact with him and he doesn’t understand me? How can I help my son and myself through the wisdom of Kabbalah?
Answer: This is a problem! Your son doesn’t want to be in contact with you because he feels that you suppress him, while you feel that you need to take care of him, and he should accept your care and care for you in return.
However, the relationship between a mother and a child should be such that a mother won’t give a child reason to think that she limits him.
The young generation needs its freedom from the previous generation. They need the parents to provide them with all the necessities and move aside.
My teacher Rabash used to say, “All that our children need from us is to close our mouth and open our pocket.”
This is what they require. Do you want to have a good relationship with them? Then close your mouth and open your pocket.
Of course, this is somewhat exaggerated, but I advise you to keep him in your thoughts (because they influence your son) and show him that you require nothing from him: no changes in his life at all. You want, if possible, just to add somewhere, anywhere he wishes.
This is what we learn from the upper providence that treats the lower system this way.
Every upper Sefira only does what is necessary for the lower in order for it to fulfill itself, to grow, and to attain. It doesn’t think about itself in any way.
This is exactly how the Creator treats us: we don’t owe Him anything and only He owes us.
Comment: It is said that we are obliged to keep the commandments
Answer: You do that in order to correct yourself and not for the Creator! The Creator is perfect. You can’t give Him anything and you don’t give Him anything. Absolutely nothing! After all, if we speak about a perfect attribute, then it won’t gain or lose anything no matter how you conduct yourself. Everything is done only for your own good and nothing more.

The Result of Spiritual Problems

laitman_627_2Question: What is the spiritual root of not being able to give birth?
Answer: There are many problems today that will grow, expand, deepen and take on different forms. This is the result of our internal spiritual and mental problems. No matter how many medications we invent, we will not be able to do anything. We are constantly chasing our own tail, doing increasingly worse things, and then we have to invent medications to deal with the outcomes of our actions.

Do Not Put An End To Nascent Life

laitman_527_01Question: How does the wisdom of Kabbalah relate to abortions that are not associated with any danger to the embryo or the mother?
Answer: Every birth is a sign that we are participating in the correction of the world. Even on the animate level, an embryo and the future human being it will grow into has an opportunity to perform certain actions ofbestowal. Therefore, it is important to keep it.

How Can I Reveal The Creator?

laitman_628_2Question: Why hasn’t the Creator revealed Himself in such a long time?
Answer: We exist in a clear physical world! If you wish to attain theCreator, you have to be in the desire to reveal the property of bestowal and love!
If you have such a desire, it means you are obliged to love and bestow. To love means to take others’ desires and fulfill them.
Do you have such a desire? No. So it means you have nothing with which you can reveal the Creator!
The Creator is not hiding. Our nature is such that everything is revealed according to the law of similarity of properties. I cannot hear with my eyes, but I hear with my ears because the waves are different for vision and hearing. It is the same with the Creator. If I do not have an organ that can sense Him, it means I do not sense Him! He is here, but I do not sense Him!
You have to create a new sense organ within yourself. This is what we are doing. This is why we are called Kabbalists, which comes from the word “Lekabel = to receive.” We wish to receive a sensation of the phenomenon that exists around us. It is the force that governs and fulfills the entire Universe, all of nature!
Then we will find out the purpose for our existence, what happens to us every moment of life, what was, what is, and what will be. After all, everything is inherent in this force!

Why Do We Need Centuries Of Suffering?

Laitman_115_06Question: Why do we need a world history of ages of suffering and endless daily suffering of billions of people on the way to spiritual happiness?
Answer: We have to choose the way to ascend above our present situation by ourselves. We have to develop gradually, slowly, and consciously on each level in the egoistic state we are in, to begin to transform the egoistic state to the opposite altruistic state. Therefore, all the states we have been through until today during our whole egoistic development were essential. It is just like a small child who has to grow for 15-20 years before he becomes an adult and can manage independently.
You may ask why he needs that. It could have been much better if we were born wise, mature, and not in our egoism but in altruism, in love and bestowal, permanently connected between each other. If that were the case, people could not attain anything. We have already been through the phase in our development, called, Adam HaRishon(First Man), which means that it is the full schema of the connection between us in the best possible way called the Garden of Eden (Paradise).
What we call “Man” already existed in that state, which means that we were all connected and united. The point is that in that state we couldn’t discover anything except for our unconscious existence in the system of Adam HaRishon, who is therefore called an angel.
An angel is a beastly state, a spiritual beastly state. And we have to attain more, to reach similarity with the Creator. This means that we have to ascend from the level of an angel to the level of Man. Man, “Adam,” stems from the word “Domeh” (to resemble), to resemble the Creator, which is the level we have to ascend to.
We need to have the same thoughts and feelings as the Creator’s, which means that we have to overcome the gap between these two levels beast and man by ourselves. This is the reason we develop very slowly and painfully.  This is the level of development we are faced with.

The New Sanhedrin

laitman_933Question: Do you have a successor? Who will continue your teaching of the wisdom of Kabbalah?
Answer: Each of you and all of you together. I don’t think that it will be one person because we have reached a state where the new generation all of my students were not created to be individualists. Now is beginning to unfold that the general program of creation requires a group.
We can see that before there were individual scientists such as Newton, Leibniz, Einstein, Bohr, Landau and others, and now there are teams. Creative, professional groups work on all scientific problems; scientific breakthroughs are accomplished only through the efforts of large numbers of people.
It is the same with the wisdom of Kabbalah. If in the past there were individual Kabbalists, as far as it seems, their time has passed. Baal HaSulamRabash, and I are a transitional link, and all of my students, who are called a “group,” were born. They are created and trained to solve spiritual problems specifically between them and to lead others. That is how it was thousands of years ago. And then for the last 2,000 years in the period of exile, all of this disappeared and individuals in only a thin stream passed on the wisdom of Kabbalah. But now everything is returning full circle.
Question: So have we reached a state where everything began as a circle and will finish as a circle? After all, wasn’t the Sanhedrin a group like that?
Answer: Yes, it certainly must be a group. A group is similar to the Creator. This is a unique connection where we are together and each of us begins to subordinate and nullify himself to the center of the circle (the “minus”). All of our longings and intentions for the future are gathered in the center of the circle (the “plus”). It is precisely the plus and the minus that transform us into being like the Creator.
Ultimately in the center of the circle we begin to feel the Upper Light. The Creator wants us to defeat Him. He created the egoism and we need to correct it such that we will feel the Creator. We will perceive and discover Him. Therefore, it was said, “my sons have defeated me” (Baba Metzia 59a).

The Seven Sciences

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: It is said that before starting the study of the wisdom of Kabbalah, a person must learn seven sciences. What are those sciences and is that necessary?
Answer: They used to associate these sciences to areas that today are not considered science, such as dance, music, and art. These were sciences of self-expression of the human personality, everything through which a person expresses his perception of his impressions of the world. Through learning and studying human responses to the influence of the world, we study and investigate the person himself. This is science.
It seems to us that through physics, chemistry, and the rest of the sciences we can study and explore the surrounding world. But we are actually studying and exploring ourselves, our reactions, the “instrument” of our understanding, our perception of the world—the way something unknown to us is reflected in us.
Kabbalists spoke about studying seven sciences that explore a person’s response to something unexplainable that acts on him from the outside.
Why is it specifically seven sciences? This is because in addition to the Rosh (head) of the spiritual Partzuf, which is concealed from us (Keter, Hochma, and Bina), there is the spiritual body (Hesed, Gevura, Tifferet, Netzah, Hod, Yesod, and Malchut), which are found in us. So we study and investigate the reactions of these seven characteristics to something that we don’t understand called, “our world.” It is in this manner that a picture of our world is portrayed to us.

Where Can One Find A Solution To Conflicts?

Laitman_088Question: Where is it possible to find a solution to the conflicts that people of our time have? Is the solution found in the spiritual world?
Answer: In our world we cannot minimize, mollify, or be sure of resolving conflicts and quarrels in any way because they are all come from clashes of the ego.
While only egoism exists in each one of us, the conflict resolution is as only “knocking down” each other.
Because the ego is constantly growing, it is impossible to crush. Moreover, we see throughout history those who oppress others ultimately find themselves in a worse position like Europe, which oppressed Africa, India, and other colonies.
Everything came back to haunt them, as with the Romans who in their time conquered Europe and England. And where are the Italians now, or the Spaniards who plundered America?
The story is played in full. Nature strongly answers us according to what we deserve. Therefore Russia suffers today from the inhabitants of the lands it conquered in the past.
In other words, there is no solution within egoism; the solution is only through the integration of egoism with altruism. The altruistic force is found above us, and that is precisely what we must discover and draw upon in order to solve our problems, even our earthly problems.
Question: Does this mean that in order to change something in this world we need to rise above it?
Answer: There is no alternative; the present crisis is happening so that we will be forced to begin engaging with the wisdom of Kabbalah and discovering the higher system that brings the positive force into our world, otherwise we will not survive.

The Future Is Perfect

laitman_427_02Torah, Deuteronomy 11:10 – 11:12: For the land to which you are coming to possess is not like the land of Egypt, out of which you came, where you sowed your seed and which you watered by foot, like a vegetable garden. But the land, to which you pass to possess, is a land of mountains and valleys and absorbs water from the rains of heaven, a land the Lord, your God, looks after; the eyes of Lord your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.
The land of Egypt is our egoistic life that all of humanity leads during thousands of years of history, working and winning the right for existence through their physical labor and intelligence, as if there is no Creator in our world. The exit to the next degree of development is completely different. It’s like showing a person from the Stone Age how we live today: driving around in cars, flying in planes, using plasma technology and robotics, and performing organ transplants.
If he saw all this, he would think that he was seeing something like a Cyclops, it would seem all absolutely incredible to him. Although, the people from the Stone Age were very advanced in some fields, we can’t even imagine how much and in what fields.
Once we began to develop materially, we lost the rudiment of spiritual development of the ancient peoples in the “antediluvian” times. Humanity lost this state and the feeling of nature, when a person felt instinctively that he is within nature depending upon it. All of nature spoke to him the same way it does to animals today.
Hence, we can’t imagine our future; it is completely different. When we begin to explore the upper nature, we will participate in it with the help of the balance between the positive force and negative force. By attracting the positive force of goodness, love, and connection to our world, we will balance the negative force, which today rips us into pieces and mutually distances us from each other.
The balance between these two forces will reveal a completely different level of existence to us that we call spiritual or upper, because on this level we will control all of creation, all of nature, and not only nature of our world. We will begin to feel the deepest layers of nature that are not layers of this world.
Our world seems to us as only one very small left system of providence. When the second system of providence is added, which is bestowing and connecting that connects with the left system and moves along the middle line, then we discover a completely new volume of the universe, eternal and perfect, and we begin to exist in it. This state is called the land of Israel. This is what we aspire to.
Then we will act only through one force. Even now we are gradually beginning to feel that this world can exist on a completely different energy, not on the coarse material energy with little efficiency such as wood, coal, oil, gas that we extract from the earth with difficulty.
We will begin to use completely different forces that we receive as if for free. Through inner efforts, everything will suddenly appear before us like in a fairy tale: I wished, looked and it happened.

One Percent That Made A Human From A Monkey, Part 4

laitman_754Animals live in the current moment and don’t feel past, present, and future. They have a very short memory, and they can’t know what happened to their ancestors a thousand years ago or what could happen in a thousand years. They don’t care about the distant future, and they do not sit on international committees discussing the future of the world.
A human, however, constantly worries about his future or regrets the past and almost never lives in the current moment. It turns out that we are worse off than animals. If we knew the answer to the questions: Why do we live, where did we come from, and where we are going?, we would have been higher than animals because we would see the whole perspective.
But we don’t know this and every moment we ask ourselves about the purpose of our existence, which makes us the most miserable creatures. Nature won’t allow us to concentrate on the current moment, but makes us explore the past and the future in order to discover our source and ultimate goal.
We don’t want to be tied to our body and live like animals. Human life is not limited to one physical existence; a person wants to see the entire world from end to end, to see the future and understand why he lives.
The law of cause and effect acts everywhere in nature; each phenomenon has its cause and effect. I also want to know what the cause of my life is and what is its effect? Why was I born? There must be an answer to this question established in nature, because everything in it is consistent and obeys higher logic.
If nature develops such a clever and unique creature as a human and gives him such questions, it means he is obliged to find the solution and discover what he is living for and why.
Question: Doesn’t a chimpanzee want to find out why it is living?
Answer: No, chimpanzees only care about how to live this moment better, how to establish a life for themselves and their descendants, but nothing more. Animals even care for their children only for a short time. Then the young grow and the connection between them and their parents ends.
Question: So it turns out that all the special abilities of a human have a completely different purpose that we are looking for, but haven’t found yet?
Answer: Of course! Nature designated a special mission to us that we haven’t discovered yet. We are probably not yet ready to use it correctly, and therefore, it remains concealed from us. However, questions we ask ourselves now and the disappointments we face push us to develop, causing us to clarify this question and answer it. This is the main task of the current period.
Question: Does this explain the chaos that rules everywhere now?
Answer: Crisis” means the birth of a new degree. This is the correct translation of the word.

Who To Ask For Forgiveness And For What? Part 3

Laitman_043Question: Why is there a tradition of redemption before the new year (Rosh HaShana), and sages warn that the Creator records all our actions and presents us with an account? It sounds as if He prescribes us penalties for our misconducts?
Answer: This is very simple. We all are linked into one closed system that connects us to each other with billions of strands: all of the people, stones, plants, and animals. Everything is connected together; therefore the “penalty book” is this network itself.
Every time I make some movement, not an external one with the arms or legs, but an internal one, regarding the connection between us, becoming closer to people or farther from them, it is immediately realized and felt in our connection. It means that I am already recorded in the record book of nature for the benefit or harm I have caused. There is a general account of how much I affected the system, since it is integral and closed.
It is like the cells of one body, where each is linked to all others. So it turns out that all my actions and influence on the system are recorded in it and change it in some way.
Moreover, I am not in some single point of the system, but spread over all of it, among all the billions of people, animals, plants, and inanimate matter, and affect them all. I am in absolutely everyone and bring them either to unity or separation with my actions. It means that I am recorded in the book.
Our egoistic desire is growing every moment because evolution moves forward steadily, and we develop from generation to generation and during our entire life. Therefore, every day I must care about correcting all missed opportunities to connect all the people into one system.
If I neglect my duties, then I contribute to the general separation. Even my ignorance doesn’t relieve me from the punishment. Since I don’t contribute to the connection, I lead to the discord.
If when getting up in the morning I don’t act in order to unite the entire world, or at least the entirety of Israel into one family, it is called behavior that is detrimental to the system. After all, egoism is constantly growing and we don’t correct it, we don’t fix our connection.
If I did something bad or good to one person, it affects the entire system. And even if I simply did nothing good, it also counts as a wrecking, because in the meantime the egoism that separates us has grown. All this is recorded on my account into two columns: debit and credit.
Question: If I ask for forgiveness on the eve of the new year, will all my debts be written off?
Answer: Nothing will be written off. The idea is that the person makes an internal calculation with himself and decides that from now on he must cause only the connection of the system. He truly repents for his past and makes a decision for the future. These aren’t empty words with nothing behind them, but are the result of a serious preparation.
He swears that from this day he will constantly check and correct each of his desires. Eventually we all should come to the state where the whole system is corrected. Nobody will make this correction instead of us. What I can correct or damage inside my soul, like in the cell of a body, nobody can correct apart from me.
Therefore, my redemption doesn’t cancel past sins, but gives me an opportunity to start as if from scratch and correct them. Due to the fact that from now on I start to do good deeds, I add my past wrongdoings to them and correct them.

Ynet: “The Secret For A Successful Year”

From my column in Ynet, “The Secret For A Successful Year”
Why is it customary to read the Book of Jonah on Yom Kippur? Did the whale really swallow Jonah or is it only an allegory? What is the secret of how to atone for our actions and block all the arrows of hatred directed toward Israel? Rav Laitman’s  guide for the perplexed for Yom Kippur.

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself why you fast on Yom Kippur; why you go to the synagogue on Yom Kippur; why you ask a friend or someone you have wronged to forgive you? We have been used to keeping these customs since our childhood, and it seems the main reason for that is that we all want to be found innocent, at least to some degree, on Yom Kippur.
Those who have the means even compete with the sum of money to pay for the right to read the Book of Jonah in public, a well-known merit for wealth and success in business in the coming year. The sums go up from year to year, but do they understand what they are paying for?
The story of the prophet Jonah begins with a mission he receives from God; he is to warn the gentiles, the people of Nineveh, to repent their evil way, from unfounded hatred to love of others. Just like in the past, just like Jonah, so do we, the people of Israel today have a role that we cannot avoid. The same role that accompanies us since the time of ancient Babylon when Abraham united us into a nation on the basis of love of others—to establish among us the unity that will serve as an example for the whole world. Fulfilling this role is our right to exist.
We have experienced how this law operates throughout our history: when we are united, we prosper and the world prospers too. When we fall into unfounded hatred, we receive blows and the world deteriorates. With time we have failed to build the connection between us to such extent that we don’t believe we can re-establish the good relations between us again. We are repulsed by hearing that our role is to be a Light unto the nations of the world. We have forgotten our role and when we escape from it the storm arrives….
The Storm
Jonah escapes his mission, boards a ship and sails overseas. His escape generates a storm, and the sailors realize that the reason for their suffering is the Jew who is onboard their ship. Throwing him overboard into the sea soon follows.
In today’s global world, the nations of the world also blame us for every crisis there is. The fate of the nation of Israel is unavoidable. The sailors in the story change each time, but our fate is the same. If we don’t awaken from our deep sleep and agree to fulfill our mission, the time will come when we are thrown into the sea is sure to come.
Jonah was thrown into the sea and swallowed by a whale. At the end of his self-examination, he agrees to fulfill the mission he was given, and only then does the fish bring him to a safe shore, to Nineveh.
The Agreement
Like Jonah, we carry within us a method to connect. This is the national genome that binds us into one nation and we cannot escape it. When we connect, we will serve as an example of unity for all the nations. The only question is whether we will be responsible enough or whether, God forbid, we will be thrown into the depths of the ocean so that we will agree to fulfill our destiny.
Our role is to turn the unfounded hatred into love of each other, yet instead of being a Light unto the nations, we do everything in our power to be like all the other nations. But the steamroller of development makes more and more people and nations subconsciously feel that the Jews are responsible for all their troubles, and so the nations will not change their attitude toward us for the better until we discharge our duty.
The purpose of Yom Kippur is to allow us to do some deep introspection, and it is an opportunity for us to take on our mission and come to the decision to connect and be Light unto the nations of the world. Only then will the global turmoil around us quiet down and all of humanity will live in peace, and a Sukkah of peace will be spread over all of us.
A good New Year and may all of Israel be signed and sealed in the Book of Life!

Ynet: “Anti-Semitism: The Same Tune Over And Over Again”

70% of the Europe’s Jews will not celebrate the coming holiday season together because of the fear of anti-Semitism. “Our nation is used to being persecuted, the excuse for hating us changes, but it is the same tune over and over again.” Rav Laitman explains the law of anti-Semitism, why it repeats in every generation, and how we can avoid the next wave of hatred.
The wave of terrorism raised its head again last week in Israel and reawakened the preparedness and the tension again. But the fear doesn’t permeate only Israel but also our fellow Jews in Europe.
According to a new troubling survey conducted by the European Jewish Association and the Rabbinical Center of Europe 70% of the European Jews are afraid of coming to the public prayers and celebrations on Rosh HaShana and Yom Kippur because of the rise in anti-Semitic incidents, despite the increased security measures and policing around Jewish institutions. “The challenge has doubled during the last months” says the union CEO, “we are also coping with the increased harassment of Jews by Muslims and a significant increase of power of extreme right-wing movements.
The Muslim refugee crisis has been troubling the 27 EU leaders over the last year. It is the main cause of the rise of the radical right-wing parties that call out to deport them and which is terrifying the Jews living in Europe. The Jews are currently exposed to large-scale attacks, incitement to violence, and verbal abuse, and despite their promises, the European leaders simply cannot ensure their safety. Half of the racist incidents in France are directed toward Jews; in Germany the president of the Jewish Council Dr. Joseph Shuster warned people not to wear a yarmulke in Muslim regions; in Holland Mezuzahs were removed from doors, and the British media is engaged in an unprecedented anti-Semitic attack against Israel and the Jews, but interestingly 85% of the anti-Semitic incidents are not reported at all…
As Usual, The Jews Are to Blame
Europe is used to signaling out the Jews. It is the stronghold of the BDS movement, which operates against Israel, and incitement campaigns like “Israeli Apartheid week” are launched in European capital cities, and tens of thousands of anti-Semitic statements are published daily online accusing the Jews of all the evil in the world. With the rate things are happening, it would not be surprising if soon a new international committee were appointed with the “initiative to formulate a strategy to impose peace in the Middle East,” that would conclude that the solution to Europe’s problems is the de-legitimization of Israel. They may suddenly decide that the operative solution to the refugee crisis in Europe is to resettle them by our side in the land of Israel, the country they themselves assigned in the UN Partition Plan in November 1947.
Don’t let politics fool you. What is happening in Europe now is merely a new external expression of the recurring pattern of hatred that has been part of our history for ages. Unfortunately history teaches us that the anti-Semites have won this struggle as attested by the millions of Jews who have been murdered inspired by blood libels since 1144 to the present. Today the main expression of anti-Semitism is anti-Israel, “modern blood libel” under the guise of anti-Zionism.
Why don’t rational explanations about the situation in the Middle East convince any intellectual? Why will we never be able to escape our identity? Why will the hatred of Israel continue to raise its head just as it has for ages? Why is it that unlike any other nation in history, the more they try to destroy us, they will not be able to complete the job?
The Law of Anti-Semitism
According to Kabbalah, anti-Semitism is not a passing phenomenon but a law of nature that can be measured. When we unite over all the disputes and disagreements, the positive force that can do wonders spreads in the world. On the other hand, when we are divided and emotionally distant from each other, we invoke the negative force in the world, which returns and hits us with a burst of anti-Semitism.
Even if they are not aware of it, deep in their hearts anti-Semites feel that we have the key to their bright future, but our ears are deaf and we don’t even hear when some of them openly say that if we only connected, their attitude toward us would improve dramatically. Henry Ford, one of the greatest anti-Semites in history, wrote in his bookThe International Jew: The World’s Foremost Problem, “The Jew has been too long accustomed to think himself as exclusively the claimant on the humanitarianism of society; society has a large claim against him that he cease his exclusiveness, that he cease exploiting the world, that he cease making Jewish groups the end and all of his gains, and that he begins to fulfill, in a sense his exclusiveness has never yet enabled him to fulfill, the ancient prophecy he boasts that through him all the nations of the earth should be blessed.”
The irrational hatred arising then as it is now reminds us the hard way that we have a role, and although we would be glad to be rid of it, it is impossible. Even if we assimilate or try to hide our Israeli identity, we will always remain Jews. We are a nation that carries an idea, a social ideal of love of man, of our nation and of the world. We became a nation on the basis altruism expressed by the rule “Love thy neighbor as thyself,” and only the return to love can defeat the hatred the world feels toward us. Kabbalists tell us that we Jews decide the fate of the world. “Just as the organs of a body cannot exist even for one moment without the heart,” as it is written in The Book of Zohar,” neither can the nations of the world exist without Israel.” Through the unity between us, we oblige the world to unite and the abundance begins to flow. While we are divided, we separate them and this clogs the pipes of abundance and leads to wars and hatred.
Baal HaSulam, Rabbi Yehuda Ashlag, the great 20th century Kabbalist wrote that “the nation of Israel was installed with a transmitter, and to the degree that Israel are connected, they transmit their power to the other nations of the world.” He also wrote, “We are the sons of the ideal,” and only when we fulfill it and unite will we be able to live in peace.
There Is Nowhere to Run
The pressure that can be put on us by Europe and through it by all the nations of the world may take us back to the years in which we wandered from one place to another, at best, or to our destruction just like 80 years ago, at worst. Although it may seem that the Jewish people have a home in the land of Israel today, “The whole Zionistic ideas will be annulled,” wrote Baal HaSulam in “The Last Generation.” With great sadness he describes the process of the decline of our future if we don’t fulfill our role and transmit the force of connection to the world through us. “This state will be very poor and its inhabitants will suffer greatly and many of them or their children will undoubtedly gradually leave the country and only a negligible number will be left, who will also eventually assimilate among the Arabs.” Then there will truly be nowhere to run.
In times of crisis, no country, not even the US, will support us or receive us. It was the same in the days of Nazi Germany when the Jews who felt threatened by anti-Semitism tried to escape fearing the great disaster that was approaching. Some even sailed the infamous St. Louis to the South America, but when they reached Cuba the government told them that they were not welcome and refused to receive them. They sailed to the US where they were refused again, and having no choice they returned to Europe and most of them were killed in the Holocaust.
The Writing Is on the Wall
Baal HaSulam, who knew the law of anti-Semitism and all the laws of nature that operate in our reality, warned people that the Holocaust was approaching, “I have already published most of my views in 1933. I have also spoken to the leaders of the generation, and my words were not accepted then. Although I screamed and warned that the world was going to be destroyed, it did not impress, but now after the nuclear and the hydrogen bomb I believe that the world will believe that the end of the world is very near and that Israel will be the first to get burnt, just the way it was in the previous war. Therefore it is the right thing to awaken the world today so that they will receive the only remedy there is and will live and survive” (“The Last Generation”).
The loud cry of Baal HaSulam is still echoing today and is more relevant than ever before. Even then, when Europe was prosperous, the Jews preferred to complacently dance to the tune of a waltz in Berlin or tranquilly chew schnitzel despite the great impending danger. The waves of modern anti-Semitism washing Europe today should serve as reminder of our role: to unite and to be light unto the nations of the world, to be an example of the corrected society in which everyone lives in brotherly love above all our differences. Today we are also nearing the fatal choice, and just as we did when we became a nation for the first time at the gathering at Mt. Sinai and were faced with a similar decision, when placed before us was an unequivocal choice: to unite or here will be our burial place, mutual guarantee or unfounded hate, all or nothing. We made a huge effort, conquered the mount of hatred between us, and connected as one man in one heart.
The message is clear—we must blame only ourselves for the hatred the world feels toward us. As long as we are cruel to each other, the world will be cruel to us. Deep down inside, every Jew feels that “All of Israel are friends.”
If we connect as one bundle, we will harness anti-Semitism to our advantage. Since “the main protector against calamity is love and unity, when Israel feel love, unity, and brotherhood toward one another, there is no room for disaster to affect them (Maor VaShemesh).

How Not To Deceive Myself

laitman_933Question: How is it possible to learn to differentiate between a state in which I have truly risen above the ego and the usual happy feeling of fulfillment within the ego? How do I not deceive myself?
Answer: It is possible to distinguish this only within the group, not in any other place.
You need to nullify yourself in relation toward others, seeing yourself higher or lower than them, communicating with each other on specific channels. You should do the groundwork within the group of Ten in such a way that everyone will be equal and interconnected so the network that we weave among us will become like the characteristics of the Creator, with mutual bestowal and love between us. Then to the degree that there is equivalence of form with Him, the Light will be revealed in it.

Who To Ask For Forgiveness And For What? Part 2

laitman_534Question: Does it mean that it is a mistake to think that there is God above who is watching our actions and from whom we need to ask for forgiveness?
Answer: A person goes through various stages of development. Therefore, it is impossible to say that some of his beliefs are correct and some aren’t. He thinks this way today, but gradually he corrects his perception, rising in knowledge and feeling.
And then, of course the concept of “I and the Creator” changes completely. I feel more and more that the upper force is the result of my connection with other people and doesn’t exist outside of it. Only the essence of the Creator (Atzmuto) that is absolutely inaccessible to me exists independently.
Therefore, we must firmly grasp that the Creator exists only in the connection with people. There can be no appeal to the Creator except from our unity; after all, we create the place for His revelation through it.
Then each one must judge himself: how much he is connected with others? This is his entire redemption. It is impossible to judge a person individually. This is an immense mistake that we always make instinctively: thinking about ourselves, counting on ourselves, and acting alone.
This is a fatal mistake that we  have continued to make for thousands of years. The separation from the Creator is the reason for our terrible forgetfulness.
Comment: Regrettably, it sounds very relevant, because separation, disagreement, and hostility between various currents and factions.
Answer: The people of Israel already went through such states during the destruction of the First and Second Temples. Jews were killing each other then, not only with words, but also with real weapons, shedding brotherly blood in the civil wars. I hope very much that today we won’t come to that. We haven’t taken out our swords yet, but we earnestly fight with each other by all other means.
This is because we have forgotten who we are, what the foundation of our nation is, and our responsibility to move toward unity; although, in fact, this is our own correction and the correction of the entire world.

One Percent That Made A Human From A Monkey, Part 3

Laitman_088Question: It is not by chance that the human level is called “speaking” in Kabbalah, since speech is what distinguishes humans from animals. We can talk, express our desires and thoughts. However, it turns out that animals, and especially monkeys, also have their own language. How is it different from human language?
Answer: Animals have their own languages within the framework required for their lives. They don’t feel any need for anything more.
Animal language passes between each other all the information relevant for their lives, existence, and the maintenance of relationships between them. Whereas for the people, the most important thing is to convey information to each other about our development.
This is why human language must be very rich and complemented by pictures, drawings, writing, all sorts of characters, singing, and the transfer of information through written letters and other types of memory.
Our development obligates us to this. An animal is attached to the current moment in which it presently lives. A human, however, feels the connection with the past and the future, and therefore he requires some kind of addition to his memory that will help him store the information and pass it on from one generation to another and within a few generations. This is the only way he can advance.
Although this is not the most important thing in a human. We haven’t yet touched the main difference between a human and an animal, which is his special and high destiny. So far we are discussing only things that distinguish us from animals in this material life: language, culture, education, building human society and government with all its systems.
All this was developed by people and organized naturally, and it is present in different cultures: in South America, China, Africa, and Oceania.
But the special destiny of human is reaching the human level that is calledAdam (Man). This is not an animal that is just a little more developed. All human life that raises him above the animal level is to know the source of his life, its cause and purpose.
These are the questions that separate man from any animal, including the chimpanzee. A monkey doesn’t ask itself about the meaning of its life and therefore it doesn’t develop. And the human does, and this question forces him to create religions, beliefs, contact with the hidden forces, to look for something that exists outside of this world, life on the other planets, and to think what will happen to him after death.
A person is extremely concerned with these questions. That is, he is not attached to the current moment only, to this physical, material life. On the contrary, he is ready to dedicate his entire life to find out with whom he is really connected. Who is he? Who controls and obligates him? What is he living for? What is this program that constantly pushes him to develop and makes him ask about the purpose of life and its meaning?
This part of a person develops more and more and demands an answer.
