Global Work On Our Mistakes

Baal HaSulam, “The Peace”: Anyone can see how a large society such as the state of Russia, with hundreds of millions in population, more land than the whole of Europe, second to none in wealth in raw materials, and which has already agreed to lead a communal life and practically abolished private property altogether, where each worries only about the wellbeing of society, has seemingly acquired the full measure of the virtue of bestowal upon others in its full meaning, as far as the human mind can grasp.
And yet, go and see what has become of them?… Indeed, that fact puzzles us, because judging by the wealth of that country and its plentiful population, it seems unreasonable that it would come to that. But this nation has sinned one sin which the Creator will not forgive: that all this precious and exalted work, namely bestowal upon others, which they have begun to perform, needs to be for the Creator and not for humanity.
Question: What does it mean, “The Creator will not forgive”?
Answer: This is the law, the effects of which may only be revealed in the form of prolonged shattering and destruction. It will take a long time for Russia to understand the flaw in its attempt. It has already been twenty years since this country has been going through a sort of transition period, as a result of which it has started a pseudo-return to the previous era, to the days of Stalin with the intention of finding out what exactly and to what extent the corruptions were. See what a huge turn they will have to make in order to realize and to recognize how to move on.
The Americans and the Europeans will also have to work seriously on their mistakes, until eventually everyone will reach a common decision. In the meantime, they each follow different directions and the world is returning to the days of the cold war with all its particulars.
On the other hand, however, this century is different from the last one: Today there is no fear of big wars between the superpowers. This is improbable since it would definitely lead to disaster and total annihilation. So there will be conflicts and regional wars; there will be unrest and troubles, until all sides realize that they have no other choice but to cooperate integrally.
What is more, the future blow will come from a different direction: social, economic, etc.

The Temple In Your Heart

Question: We say that the Temple is “located” in the human heart. What does that mean?
Answer: The Temple is the center of the connection of the people. It teaches us to unite and contains the properties that demonstrate how everything should be realized.
Why do we use the phrase “destruction of the Temple” instead of saying the “destruction of the country?” We say it because the Temple was a spiritual basis, a place where the unification process had stopped. It took place seventy (70) years before the Temple was destroyed.
Seventy (70) years stand for 7 Sefirot, 10 years in each Sefira. The Nation gradually descended these steps until it reached Malchut: Hesed, Gevura, Tifferet, Netzach, Hod, Yesod, and Malchut… Here the destruction of the Temple (shattering of unity) occurred. It was known well in advance.
It means that people stopped bringing genuine sacrifices to the Temple, meaning the ones that lead to unity. They started to emphasize: “It was who made a sacrifice.” The “I” (our egoism) is something that interferes and destroys all Temples. It’s the cause of destruction.

See How Tasty It Is!

The law is very simple, we cannot get to know our root unless we reach a form that is opposite from the Creator. It’s impossible to get to know something if we don’t have a deficiency for it. First we have to build the vessel, the desire, the revelation of the deficiency. The revelation of the deficiency has to be opposite from the following attainment.
It’s a very simple principle, but we cannot accept it since we want to receive something, to feel the pleasure internally, and we forget that we don’t have a deficiency for spirituality. Only the natural deficiency is evoked in our world and every creature feels a need to live and to enjoy. So we usually don’t worry about a deficiency. Only when a certain problem suddenly comes up do we understand how complicated it is. The doctor tells a patient that he has to eat something, but the patient has no appetite and cannot even swallow a tiny bit.
In our world the deficiencies are usually revealed by themselves and we only have to try to fulfill them and to attain what is missing. In spirituality it’s the exact opposite. First we have to acquire a deficiency for spirituality and then there is no problem fulfilling it. In our world we chase pleasures, while in spirituality, we have to chase the deficiency for the pleasure. The pleasure is abundant since the Upper Light is in a state of absolute rest.
This is a very important principle since we make a great effort trying to attain the filling. However, we shouldn’t think about the filling but about the right deficiency! We work in order to fill the deficiency that we already have, but we should understand the very simple fact that we need to reach the deficiency in order to receive the right deficiency and not the filling. It’s a very important point.
The Creator has prepared infinite treasures for us, but we don’t even look in the right direction. It’s just like trying to convince a child that you have prepared many delicacies for him, different delicious dishes, but he doesn’t even want to see them since he has a certain idea and he thinks about something else and doesn’t even hear you calling him.
We are behaving in the exact same way now. So our goal is to want what the Creator has prepared for us and then we will receive everything! But all our prayers are only that He should give us more and more! These are the requests of a child who doesn’t understand anything. What else can He give us? Here take it, it’s all before you! Why are you asking for something else if the Creator already serves everything into your mouth? Just swallow it. But we are confused and we look the other way.
The psychological shift from looking for pleasure to looking for a deficiency is called the transition from Lo Lishma (not for its sake) to Lishma (for its sake). Only after we begin to worry about bestowal upon the Creator for His sake, for the sake of the created beings, do we understand that we need a deficiency and not a filling. It’s a very important moment.

The Klipa Stretches Time For Us

The effort and the attempt to understand the structure of the spiritual worlds, is not a theoretical understanding but a desire to feel, to live in them. Understanding can only be internal; just connecting the words in the mind gives one nothing without an understanding of their essence.
So the main thing is your efforts to be incorporated in these concepts and to begin to live within them, to enter into this system, into this matrix, or the opposite, that it will enter into you and “format” you, change you, according to the higher system. This is because you want to discover that you are acting according to its laws.
In the spiritual system these states change immediately, like a perfect and coordinated machine, but within a person many incarnations may pass between two small adjacent states.
The Klipa is like a rubber band that is inserted between the states and stretches them. The Klipa gives us a sense of time and doesn’t make it possible to erase the gap between the levels, between the states. If we were to nullify the Klipa, then time would disappear and all the states would be contracted into one action.
The ability of the person to advance and to develop depends upon how much he can pass through the force of egoism that gives him the sensation of time, movement, and space, to the Returning Light. In this way he nullifies time, movement, and space, and rises from this world to the spiritual state.

Everyone Has His Own World

The Torah, “Exodus,” (Mishpatim), 22:17: Thou shalt not suffer a sorceress to live.
A person is a whole world and it is as if the world is reflected in him. If we speak about a person’s inner world, then a “sorceress” is nothing but his own attribute. Each of us wants to believe in something, we drag something behind us from our childhood and even certain gloomy tendencies, concepts, and beliefs from the depths of earlier times.
This actually has no part in the world. According to Kabbalah, the world is absolutely corporeal, and even the spirituality of the world is corporeal just like the whole world. We have to regard it in a totally realistic manner. Whatever we attain is what we can work with. So we have to take into account only the laws, the attributes, that we discover.
Kabbalists discover even deeper attributes than scientists do. They work with these attributes and perform experiments, tests, retests, analysis, and synthesis. All this knowledge is accumulated from one generation to another; every generation examines it and advances, discovering nature even more deeply.
So there is no room for any religions or mistakes, since the attitude towards the world has to be according to this important law and study, which is “a judge has only what his eyes can see,” which means that there are no others means of attainment. So we mustn’t speak about different religions and beliefs.
According to Kabbalah “belief” refers to the attribute of bestowal, when a person makes an effort and rises above his egoistic attribute of receiving and reaches the attribute of bestowal. So a “sorceress” is a person who believes in unnatural phenomena which are totally unrealistic. We speak about a reality that repeats and which can be studied by different people in different times, which makes it a scientific phenomenon only, which can be proven, which means that it’s a fact. We don’t rely on anything but facts!
Question: What if someone asks you to prove and to show him.
Answer: It’s impossible to prove or to show anything. If I don’t see well and I don’t have glasses and you tell me that there is a cupboard over there, can I believe you? After all, I cannot prove it.
This means that I have to acquire certain attributes by which I can prove or contradict what you say. In that case, I hear things that actually don’t exist for me. So for every person the world exists only to the extent that he attains it.
Question: Does this mean that you tell and explain to a person that he has to check everything out by himself and not believe you?
Answer: No. I don’t impose this picture on him! I don’t tell a person what he has to reach, since now he will not be able to see it anyway since he doesn’t know what a cupboard is if he has never seen one. I explain how to attain and expand the boundaries of his attainment.
Only those who engage in Kabbalah, whose name comes from the word “receive,”  expand and receive more and more knowledge. It only speaks about developing new means of attainment in a person by which he already attains everything by himself.

The Creator In Every Object In Our World

Question: How is it possible to get the feeling that through cooperation with another person I am giving the Creator satisfaction?
Answer: For this we need to imagine that behind every friend, behind the group, is found the Creator, that “there is none else besides Him,” and that all of our relationships are in fact with Him and not with anyone else, and only the picture of the world confuses me.
People are sitting in front of me now. I need to feel in this that I am linked with them; I am linked with the Creator. The more that I behave in regard to them in a cleaner and more direct form, the more strongly I nullify myself in regard to them, the more strongly I nullify myself in regard to the Creator. On the other hand, the more that I try to bestow to them correctly, to bring them to that state, then I will be more like the Creator. That is to say, I need to relate to them either as being greater than I (upper) or as smaller than I (lower), and I am myself always found in the middle, between these and those.
The Creator In Every Object In Our World
In the end of the matter, both this and that, this is my relationship to the Creator. And this is what is given to me so I can see His relationship in regard to us through others; it is designed this way so that it will be easier for us to accommodate ourselves to working with them. Everything depends on our motivation.

The Way To Feel The Collective Soul

Question: Is the state of my group similar to what we acquire with a “Screen?” Is the state of the group the “Screen?”
Answer: When I push my ego, my “self,” away from myself, and want to participate in a group with all my intention, then I attain my correct state. If each one of us does the same thing, then we begin to create what is called a “group.”
The Way To Feel The Collective Soul

This shared intention which is the summation (?) of our intentions (Kavana), is called a “Neshama” (Soul). It is completely yours.
When disseminating the integral method, 99% of humanity will begin to feel this soul through you. Everything that is found above you is the group, including the Kabbalists from previous generations and all who are truly higher than you. And all that is found below you is 99% of humanity. And you become the conduit, the conductor, between the higher and lower level.
The Way To Feel The Collective Soul

Question: Is it possible to say, that at that very moment when I begin to feel that information is passing through me to them, the group begins to be created? Is it as if I am responsible for those people to whom I disseminate, and they enter automatically into a group state?
Answer: They are connected to you, become a part of the general world system, yet not consciously, like little children. And slowly, to the degree of their participation in this, they reach the awareness, the feeling of the collective soul.

For The Sake Of The Ultimate Goal

Question: Do we have to work in the group with the intention of connecting with the friends or do we connect thanks to the prayer of many for everyone’s sake?
Answer: It isn’t the work that connects us at all but the desire to connect and to meet inside the Creator. It’s because the connection between us (when we are at the top of the pyramid of humanity) delights the Creator.
But this pyramid can rise to the Creator if we collect all the parts of creation: the still nature, the vegetative, the animate, and the speaking. This is actually what our intention should be and this is the picture we should keep in mind.
This means that the Creator has to be our goal and our, focus and together we connect inside Him. All the other parts which are already corrected, the Kabbalists of all the previous generations, also join us.
Our intention should be to delight the Creator. This is our ultimate goal and the reason for all the actions that we perform now. The goal of our life is to attain this goal and we dedicate our whole life to it. In order to attain this goal, we use all the necessary means: the public and dissemination. Through them we hope to attain the goal and we are ready to do everything: to love others, to bring together, and to correct the shattered souls.
But this is already the outcome. If we make it our goal, the result will be communism, socialism like in Russia, or national socialism like in Germany. So we must first focus on the Creator, since without Him we don’t need anything; we hate everyone and are repulsed by everyone. We shouldn’t delude ourselves, we are not gentle souls or altruists, but rather the greatest egoists there are who don’t care about anything. Only the goal to delight the Creator compels us to turn to the public and to worry about them.
We don’t need to hide this. There is no need, of course, to publicize this since people won’t understand it, but there is no need to hide it, since we are not altruists or gentle souls and we don’t offer to improve people’s lives because we were given this desire, this craving. They should know that we don’t care about them just as they don’t care about us and about anyone else. But there is no choice; the general system, nature, compels us. We have to rely on some rational basis and not on vague noble fantasies.

Looking At The World And Empathizing With The Suffering

Rabash, “Love of the Other:” I am looking at a tiny point, called the love of the other, and reflect on what I can do to delight all the others?
And looking at the people I see suffering, illness and everyone’s personal pain, and general misery of the whole society, that is, wars between nations. But besides a prayer, I have nothing to give them, and it’s called “empathy with the suffering of society.”
Love of people and love of the Creator are one and the same thing since it is located outside the body, outside a person’s selfish interests, and thus he does not feel any difference between them. That is why people are given the commandment to love one’s neighbor. After all, if I can check myself at all times and in all states, that is, in all the changes of my desires, then I will quickly understand whether I have it or not, and every second I can correct myself to quickly attain love of the other, which is practically the same as the love of the Creator.
I look at people and think of what I can do for them. They ask for food, family wellbeing, money, power, and knowledge: I have nothing that could fulfill those desires. And if I did, then, do I have to do it, is this the right way? Is this world given to us in order to correct and improve it on the physical level, organizing society to achieve material prosperity in the usual ways? We see that everyone tries to do this without success, so why would I suddenly be more successful than others?
But the only thing we have to do is to understand that “there is none else besides the Creator.” There is only one force that acts in the world. What we need to do is only to request from Him, to ask, to convince Him that we really want Him to intervene and to perform the work of the Creator. All the changes, all the corrections, are entrusted to Him, and our task is just to ask, to raise a prayer, MAN.
Therefore, when we are working for dissemination and meet with different people, from young children to those that have grown old, we need to understand that we do not bring them any material goods of this world. Although we organize all sorts of activities and clubs, it is only the external, related phenomena, and if it were possible to do without them, we would have done without them.
We need to organize this material framework only to create a practical basis on which the work of the Creator is realized. But everything else, the action itself, happens only through a prayer, a request, in response to which the Upper Light that Reforms begins to work and fills the desire.
We cannot understand how reality changes. Either it changes from one’s material actions, correcting something in the world, or the Light comes and changes our inner properties, and we can see that the world has changed and become better.
All the actions are realized only by the power of prayer and through the help of the Creator, His work, changes, coming from above to below. We still have to accompany this by our material actions, but then we will see the Light of the Creator, “By the word of the Lord were the heavens made” and earth.

From the Preparation for the Daily Kabbalah Lesson 9/8/13

Do We Advance or Do We Drag Out A Miserable Existence?

Our attitude towards reality is defined by our level of advancement. We have to examine and cultivate our approach towards reality since otherwise we will remain at an animate level and won’t reach the speaking state. We start forming the speaking level by asking ourselves a question: How do we relate to this realm?
Either we perceive only what we see around us, the physical nature, or we realize that Nature has a will, a desire of its own to bring benevolence to creation; it also has a program and a goal. Do we realize that nature methodically and purposefully influences us? In this case, we are obligated to act in accordance with the laws of nature and to “comply” with them. We become responsible for our destiny, for our future, which directly depends on the conditions and states that we arrange for ourselves.
This is where our work in this world begins: “Will I drag myself through a miserable existence making attempts to avoid sufferings until I die? Or do I want to learn the program, the goal, the process, and to become able to participate in the course of events thoughtfully, rationally, and thus become a person who can make an impact? Can I influence the environment and receive corresponding reactions?” Then, I voluntarily start working with nature, the force that stands right in front of me.
That’s the whole point. He who wants to know this force is called the human being(Adam), similar to it. After all, these people, according to their task, build themselves in the likeness of this upper force that created and set all laws. We want to know its laws and act according to it, in tandem with it. That is our goal, and we become partners on the path towards it.
Conversely, those who do not reveal it, regardless of their views about nature and the highest stage, remain on the “animal” level.

I’m Happy To Be In The Hands Of The Upper

Question: How can a person “steer” his states when he is thrown from side to side?
Answer: A person has no steering wheel, he is run from above, and he should only change his attitude to what is done to him. In such states, we have no power over ourselves; we just need to understand this and agree to want that the Creator would do His work on us. That’s why it is called the “work of the Creator” (Avodat HaShem).
What we need to do is to cancel ourselves and be glad that the upper takes care of us just as babies are taken care of by their mother. That is enough. And if we do this well, then we might reveal later how we ourselves can participate in this work. Our main part is to be joyful—when I am happy that the upper takes care of me no matter what He does to me!

Formula Of Action: Creator – World – Creator

Each and every action of ours should contain a vibrant appeal to the Creator. Any material activity that is not accompanied by intentions like: “Why am I doing this? Who am I interacting with together (with Him)? Why am I doing what I am doing (in order to reveal Him)?” Any action of ours that is not associated with clarifying these questions is completely useless.
If one prioritizes material actions and success above spiritual activities and attainment, one descends to the “ground” level instead of committing a spiritual deed. It’s a shame to waste time on such things. Our existence is not meant for it.
Does it mean that you approach others to tell them how wonderful it is to be together? Is it really your goal to organize a kibbutz or a collective farm? Not at all! You want to talk with them about unity and about an exceptional force that each of us contains inside because (from this point on, you should continue the dialog internally, in your thoughts) the power of unity will allow us to reveal the Creator in order to please Him.
You are obligated to continue this formula to the very end. We have to start with the Creator and conclude with the Creator. The Creator has to be in the beginning of our thoughts and He must be at the end; in the middle, there is our material world. It’s as if you start from state 1 of the world of infinity, go all the way down, from top to bottom, to this world, to state 2, and then return back to state 3, to the world of infinity at the end of correction.
Each of our actions is an implementation of the entire chain: from the world of infinity in the beginning of creation to the world of infinity at the end of creation. Repeat it to yourself as a mantra; it’s important that you do it until your heart begins feeling it. It’s as if you try to start up a dead engine; you try as many times as needed until it starts working.
Each time you do it using your material desire, which as of now doesn’t have anything in common with any kind of spiritual activity. You repeat it, as a child who doesn’t understand the meaning of words, until you start understanding. The Light impacts desires, clarifies and connects them until one begins feeling what one reiterates. Out of my own experience, I know that it works, although it requires lots of time.
However, there is nothing we can do about it, since the time, in fact, is just a chain of changes that we experience in our desires. Each time we go through a new correction. It’s a blessing that we have received a job that requires assistance of the upper force. Even if we artificially proclaim that we need the upper force, we can be assured that various troubles and enemies will not force us to understand how much we need the upper force.
We are the ones who define what route: the path of Light or the path of suffering. This is a very concrete choice: We either go one way or the other. The Creator wants us to connect with Him. If we obligate ourselves to do that with the help of a group and by keeping in mind the importance of the goal, then we’ll choose a positive and concise way. If not, then the “help against us” appears. At this time, we feel it on our skin. This is wonderful, since it’s help from above; it’s already a revelation of the upper governance.

From the Preparation for the Daily Kabbalah Lesson 8/23/13

You Cannot Advance Without The Environment

Question: How can we create a supportive atmosphere in the globalgroup that will enable each one to feel that he belongs to the whole?
Answer: First, the friends must understand that they cannot advance without an environment. These are not just nice words that you can hear wherever collective efforts are needed. No, it is about surviving or perishing.
From the spiritual perspective, I am a zero. I open a spiritual account only if I am incorporated in the group and receive the vitality of the friends through them. There is no other way. The group is the umbilical cord that ties you with the Partzuf AVI within the level of the Creator.
Question: What if a friend is repulsed by the group.
Answer: It is the natural work of the ego. It is revealed precisely when we want to get closer to one another and we encounter repulsion. Repulsion from the desire to get closer is called ego.
However, when we don’t try to get closer, the ego is not revealed. The feeling of repulsion in this world only is called ego, but, in fact, it isn’t the ego that we must correct since it isn’t against the Creator. It isn’t revealed to me against the real connection.
The real ego is the force that stands in my way of connecting with the friends. I want it, but the Creator trips me and says, “No, I will not give it to you. Here, I demand a special action from you that is called faith above reason, a Masach (screen) and the Returning Light. If you want to overcome your ego, go ahead. You must demand the Light that Reforms in order to do so.”
Then, having no choice, I cry out. Thus, the Creator forces me to turn to Him in order to receive the Light, in order to think about the attribute of bestowal.
[116092]
From the Daily Kabbalah Lesson 9/2/13Writings of Baal HaSulam

Approving Abundance For Others

Baal HaSulam, “The Love for the Creator and Love for the Created Beings”: “Here comes Hillel’s statement to the foreigner who came before him and asked to be converted, as it says in the Gemarah, When he came before Hillel, to teach him the entire Torah while standing on one foot Hillel replied, “What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbor: that is the whole Torah while the rest is commentary; go and learn it.”
Kabbalistic terms and concepts are different from those commonly used. A “non-Jew” is one who acts for himself. A person who is not a “Jew,” “Jewish” (Yehudi), and is referred to as “non-Jewish” or the “nations of the world” is someone who does not seek unity(Yehud). The category “Israel” (ישראל) includes only those who aim “straight to the Creator” (Yashar-El – ישר – אל), to bestowal, who aim towards loving others as they love themselves, towards unification, solidarity, oneness, guarantee, and all the rest that characterizes our community and cohesion. After all, it is love for others which enables us to reach the love of the Creator.
If a person wants to rise to the rung of bestowal, the level of love for others, because it will bring him adhesion with the Creator, it means he wants to be a Jew, to turn his desire to receive for self-gratification into a desire to receive in order to bestow. Thus, everything is quite simple: To become a Jew means to correct your egoism. That is what the method requires of us. And Hillel summarized it in a few words: “Do not do to others what you don’t wish to be done to you.” It is also said that the conversant first approached another sage, Shammai, with a request to teach him to love others as he loved himself. But Shammai rejected him, because one cannot immediately “leap” to the rung of love for others. In this case, Shammai represents the left line, the Light of Hochma, the properties of judgment, whereas Hillel represents the right line, the Light of Hassadim, the property of mercy.
This implies that the principle of “do not do to others as you don’t wish to be done to you” means bestowal in order to bestow, or mercy. However, mercy contains at least two facets: prohibition and obligation.
  • As for prohibition, I must constantly discern my actions: Would I suffer if this were done to me? And if yes, then I will definitely not do it to another.
  • On the other hand, if I see that I could win with the help of others, should I myself offer such help to them? It turns out that the principle of “do not do to others what you would not want done to you,” in fact, obliges me to start working for the good of others, to switch all my actions to bestowal. Otherwise, I am depriving another of a chance to receive something good. And it doesn’t matter that I don’t produce this good and don’t generate it from my desire, according to the principle “love others as you love yourself.” In this case, I do not accumulate the force of bestowal in order to give it away to others. But if I see that I can prevent the “shortfall” in others, I am obliged to prevent it, and this is also due to the principle of “do not do to others what you don’t wish to be done to you.”
Thus, guarding others from harm and helping them to do good, I begin moving towards real acts of bestowal. Hillel’s principle teaches me to think and even act in this direction, but so far, not on my own initiative. I play the role of a positive factor (+) before a negative factor (-) of others. My “plus” can enter his “minus,” but only if there is a special contact “block” in the middle. This “block” depends on me: It is I who “approves” (OK) his inclusion.
Approving Abundance for others
So, how do I give an “OK”? To do so, I am still not acting from my desire but I am already bending myself toward positive, stimulating responses. It is as if I’m giving a “go-ahead” by which the other receives good from above. Thus, Hillel’s principle teaches me how to act in order to bestow, but, so far, passively. I am not supposed to perform corrections in my receiving desire yet.
Here is an example: Yesterday you lost a paycheck in the street and I found it and brought it to you. In this way, I have not done to you what I don’t wish to be done to me. But can it be considered a true act of bestowal? After all, I contributed to your receiving the amount written on the check.
Indeed, Hillel’s principle implies not only preventing others from trouble but also promoting their good, but the help derives not from my corrected desire that turned into a “generator of good” and knows how to distribute it to others. I have not transformed yet but just helped abundance to pass from its source to the “consumer,” to the destination. It was I who set this mechanism (V) in motion, who “opened the faucet.”
Therefore, my role here is not to deliver the abundance but in approving its delivery, the “transaction.” That is what I determine whether the “faucet” will open or not.
Question: How do I open this “faucet” in my ten?
Answer: By participating. I call on all the Light that Reforms. And it manifests in my guarantee.
Question: The action itself is clear, but how do I mentally accept it? After all, I’m always full of discontent.
Answer: In thought, I’m already good to another because I wish the same attitude to come from them. I think well of them, but still do not feel that it hurts me in any way; it doesn’t step on my ego since I am not working with it and don’t engage it.
Of course, I feel envy, hatred, and am driven by passions and vanity. To approve good for others is against my ego. On the contrary, I would like everyone to have less than me.
However, it does not hurt nor diminish my “fixed assets,” and therefore, I am willing to agree for another to receive what he is entitled to. After all, no one is threatening my property and to take away what is mine.
On the other hand, if I am working not just from mercy but with the intention to bestow, I am taking something away from myself and giving to the other. It is not subject to Hillel’s principle; here, we are talking about the “withdrawal from my account” according to the principle “love others as you love yourself.” Wanting to “gobble up” the whole world, I offer this world to others “on a golden platter,” canceling my self-interest, my acquisitions.
Today, all of humanity finds itself in the position of a non-Jew who approached Hillel. Whether it likes it or not, it has no other way out but to switch to the principle of “do not do to others what you don’t wish to be done to you.” We are facing this rule of Hillel’s before the intermediate stage, without which we cannot attain true love of others. “Do not do to others what you don’t wish to be done to you”; in this phrase lies our entire correction.

Becoming The Master Of One’s Destiny Again

Today, a special condition has developed in the world caused by the fact that the spiritual and the material are converging. And to the extent that our actions are consistent with the current stage, we influence our own destiny.
Over the past two thousand years, this has not happened. The period of exile of the people of Israel lasted until now, which it had to pass through by suffering.Baal HaSulam says that a premature exit from the Egyptian exile after two hundred and ten years, instead of four hundred, became the root of all subsequent exiles.
Either way, you need to go through all the stages of the path. The breaking itself, the destruction of the Temple, defines this situation, where you are not the master but the dependent who is to experience everything through whatever comes to him.
And the people of Israel have experienced, lived through, these two thousand years until it came to their end. Today, a new, opposite stage, a new birth begins. The crisis (in Hebrew: Mashber) is birth. And so it is the time to rise to our feet.
The first time in two thousand years, our current actions, both material and spiritual, based on physical strength and the power of intention, determine our destiny. And it is determined in two ways: either carrying out the development in its time or speeding it up, one of the two. It was not like that previously, this “fork” appeared just now.
That’s why the world manifests its “round,” interconnected nature, and we discover that we are broken at the level of humanity, the people of Israel, everyone and all people. This period began with the first wave of Aliyah, the return to the land of Israel about 130 years ago, which was a sign of the new times. And now we have to get to work, knowing that the fate of the world is directly related to our efforts on the path of corrections.
And so today, during the Jewish New Year (Rosh HaShanah), when the attributes of judgment (Dinim) take effect, we have nothing to fear. If I am afraid that I will be exposed as an egoist, I have to understand that I finally have the opportunity to repay. I can carry out corrections, can ask for forgiveness, not just beat myself on the chest and shout nice words, but really wish to get rid of bad qualities.

Rebirth: At The Junction Of Opposites

As we know, it all depends on the environment and the environment of humanity as a whole is nature: still, vegetative, and animate. It is in its environment that we live and, perhaps without noticing it, are in a very clear and strict dependence on it.
Nature supplies us with all the necessities of life. Due to it, we breathe, drink, eat, and live. We are a part of it, I would say, the most sensible and sensitive part. It is enough for at least one parameter to go beyond its natural range and then we do not know what to do.
In short, we are highly dependent and the problem is that if the laws of nature are followed instinctively on the still, vegetative, and animate levels because of their identity with it, the human being who developed has found himself beyond these levels in transition from the animate stage to truly human.
This situation is very dangerous. On the one hand, the same laws of the still, vegetative, and animate nature act on the human, but on the other hand, the laws of human nature relating to the degrees of similarity to the Creator begin to affect him. As a result, people experience the affect of the Creator getting closer to humankind.
If a person does not balance these influences every time, then they are perceived as very unpleasant, adding up to the path of suffering, paved by the action of the laws of nature, which, leaving no choice, push us to equilibrium whether we want it or not.
Although the still, vegetative, and animate nature is included in the human degree—although it rises and falls with it—the Creator, the Upper Light, the higher, round, integral, global world, the one and unified, constantly is getting closer to the human being, and this presence is felt by us in the form of a complex of modern problems.
After all, we discover our own nature and every time it does not get along with our surroundings. As before, we live in still, vegetative, and animate nature, but we can no longer cope with it because we have not yet understood the aspect of human nature, the degree of the Creator, the property of bestowal, of love. We do not associate ourselves with bestowal and love, with globality, with general interconnection. We do not want this, and as a consequence, we suffer more and more.
Thus, Baal HaSulam writes in the article, “The Peace,” about the necessity of a careful attitude toward the laws of nature. Of course, he primarily means the nature of the fourth stage, the human degree. However, we can study it on the basis of the previous levels: still, vegetative, and animate.

Returning To Bestowal

Question: The ten days between the Jewish New Year (Rosh HaShanah) and the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) is the period of repentance, or more literally, return (Teshuva). What is this action?
Answer: We are talking about returning to bestowal, to the state that preceded the breaking of the vessels. Bestowal means that I calculate my every action not in my desire but in the desire of the other. It is said about this: “Make your desire as His desire.” That’s what it means to love, to bestow, to try to neutralize one’s own desire, to become included in the desire of the other, to take his desire as if I am he and to try to fulfill it.
What exactly does the other person want? He wants to make money, succeed in life, to get rid of someone, to use someone else, etc. Of course, I do not help him in this. No, being in in the property of bestowal to some extent, I “integrate” in the other; I feel his properties and want to correct them. So, I have to make sure that he is corrected like me. I have to ask for him.
And I ask for correction for him; I want to carry his bestowal in everything. I accept his properties, intentions, desires, especially the bad ones, and correct them: I ask for correction for him. He is unable to ask himself, unable to understand that this is wrong, unable to “see the baby,” i.e., to look to the future. And I become the “head” for him.
That is why the letters of the word Israel (ישראל) make up the expression the “head for me” (LiRosh – לי ראש). I am doing spiritual work for the other, instead of him, I raiseMAN—a request for correction—like the first-born and raise him to our common parentPartzuf Aba ve Ima  And from there, I get twice for myself to move into adulthood(Gadlut), which will allow me to form the genuine property of bestowal upon the other. And based on this property, I will start to bestow.
That’s what the action that we are talking about is. All this is also included in the correction on Rosh HaShanah. The New Year is in essence the peak, the result of the completed degree and ascent to the next one.
