Mind And Feelings

laitman_610.3Question: Can a person not understand Kabbalah with the mind, but only sensually?
Answer: Our mind is a derivative of the senses. The spiritual world cannot be understood by reason, because the Creator created a desire, that is, feelings, and when we begin to change our desires, the mind changes with them. Therefore, we turn to the senses—they have to be changed, and the mind will change respectively.
The mind serves our egoistic desires. In other words, it is selfish.
Question: What happens to reason, when intentions change? Does it become different?
Answer: When feelings change for love and bestowal, the mind also changes. It is clearly a servant of desires.
Question: Scientists have established that a person uses 3-5% of the brain’s potential. If he works for bestowal, would he use the remaining 97%?
Answer: Yes. But for this it is still necessary to achieve the quality of bestowal.

Egyptian Sieve

laitman_258Before entering the spiritual world, a person goes through a very difficult stage that is called “seven years of famine,” the hardening of the heart. He sees that he is drowning in his egoism, he is incapable of getting out of it, and he will never be able to get out of it. And this is the truth because the desire to enjoy is our only nature.
This period is dangerous because it could seem to a person that it is fine to remain in his egoistic desires and not worth fighting with them. Why suffer in vain trying to get rid of it if nothing will come out of it anyway? Egoism depicts to a person that he does not have any hope for salvation.
This is really the case: there is no hope to receive any fulfillment in our desire to enjoy. And a person does not yet have a desire to bestow. Therefore, he runs away to religion or to all sorts of “spiritual practices” in order not to feel that his nature is against him. The main thing is not to feel that you are facing Pharaoh. Therefore, he runs away from Egypt.
As it is written: “A thousand enter the room and one comes out to the Light”—this is how we are sifted through an Egyptian sieve. “And only the heroes among them, whose patience endured, defeated the guards and opened the gate.” We need to understand that this is a prolonged and bitter period, called the exile. It requires connection, endurance, and mutual support, otherwise a person cannot survive it. The closest way out that people leave this path is religion, which allows going within reason instead of in faith above reason.
Therefore, it is necessary to create a strong environment, an atmosphere of mutual support and guarantee in order to help each other build a Kli (vessel) for the future revelation.1
Before the exodus from Egypt, a person enters a dark period when he finds himself deeper and deeper in his egoism, every day having less and less strength to fight against it. The desire to enjoy sends him all sorts of extraneous thoughts, desires, and actions, increasingly distant from spirituality. It seems to a person that instead of advancing, he goes backward.
And then, he is tempted to turn to religion, which promises a reward for every action taken right on the spot, as if he alone is sufficient for the correction. This is certainly attractive, and a person leaves.
Rabash writes that specifically such people who have been engaged in Kabbalah for a long time have made good progress, and then left without entering the spiritual world, risk becoming the greatest opponents of Kabbalah and even enemies. After all, on one hand, they seem to understand what it speaks about, and on the other hand, they do not attain it.2
There is no other force acting in reality except the Creator. The only thing that He allows the created being is to realize what is happening to him and what the upper force is doing with him. The created being must apply all possible efforts toward this point of awareness. But in fact, in the past, now, and in the future, at all times, at all levels, only the Creator has acted, acts, and will act.
And we have been appointed to reveal His work. By this we do not influence the work itself, but we want to appreciate it and attain the entire greatness of the Creator.3
It is written: “I and not a messenger.” That is, the Creator Himself takes us out of Egypt. This means that we are in direct contact with the Creator, with the upper force, without any intermediaries. “Intermediary” means that in my demand I do not yet feel myself directly before the Creator and do not connect all my hopes for salvation only with Him.4
We need to make enormous efforts now so that everyone will scrutinize his own condition and will feel that this is the Egyptian exile. The sign of the closeness of the exodus from Egypt is a feeling of utter hopelessness in absolutely everything, from all sides. In this state of despair, the Creator reveals Himself and saves us.
However, we need to scrutinize this state together—this must be our common decision. One cannot exit Egypt alone, but only thanks to a serious awareness in the general Kli.5
Egoism assures a person that the path should not be as difficult and uncompromising as the wisdom of Kabbalah suggests. Why torment yourself fighting with your egoism? There are many psychological methods that allow you to calm down and get along with your desire to enjoy.
Clearly, this is very attractive. Therefore, from the moment the wisdom of Kabbalah emerged, throughout history, many different methodologies developed in parallel with it. And when the wisdom of Kabbalah went into concealment, this served as the reason for the emergence of the three world religions.
Religion sweetens a person’s  life. It lets people perform external actions instead of internal ones, and promises a reward for them in this world and in the next world. It is clear that egoism is looking for a compensation for itself.
However, it is specifically organized from above so that there are other systems, in addition to Kabbalah, that help to find out what egoism is in relation to the force of bestowal, the force of the Creator. Therefore, all the religions and methodologies are needed and nothing can be destroyed. Our task is only to continue clarifying the desire of the upper one.6
From the 1st part of the Daily Kabbalah Lesson 3/28/18, Writing of Rabash: “The Difference between Mercy and Truth and Untrue Mercy”

Is One Who Needs Nothing Happy?

Laitman_036Question: Various methodologies claim, “Happy is the one who needs nothing.” Is that so?
Answer: In general, yes. On the corporeal level if I need nothing, if all my desires are above the material level, aimed at love and bestowal, outside of me, then this is surely happiness.
Question: Some methods level out our desires. If a person does that, would he be happy?
Answer: A person leveling his desires reduces himself to the level of inanimate creation.
If he does not resist, does not criticize, does not blame anyone or anything, he is happy, but this happiness is emotionless like a rock. In this way he protects himself from suffering as much as possible. However, being a part of the rest of humanity, he will not be able to avoid problems. They will still come through. Moreover, he will constantly feel the need to become something more.
Question: The great Kabbalist Baal HaSulam writes that if a person made a calculation, looked at his life, and saw the amount of pain he felt versus the pleasure he experienced, he would immediately end his life. In other words, the amount of suffering is so much greater than the pleasure. Why is this calculation concealed from a person? We are all egoists. We are constantly calculating.
Answer: This is needed for the internal cumulative process so that we could accumulate multiple evils, bitterness, problems, depression, and come to such disillusionment in life that we would want to rise above it, not to end our lives, but to truly rise, to find the answer to why we suffer—for what?!

To Reach The Creator

Laitman_117Baal HaSulam, The Writings of the Last Generation: It is human nature to fear anything outside the nature of creation. People are also afraid of anything uncommon, such as thunder and loud noises.
However, He is not so. This is because in fact, there is nothing more natural than coming into contact with one’s maker, for He has made nature.
In light of these words, everything becomes simple, understandable, and there is no possibility for speculation of any kind: not spiritual, physical, nor social.
Today, the whole world is confused because we do not know how it is correctly interconnected. Therefore, we twist and connect its various parts in various ways, and in the end, we get hit. And again, we start to twist them in a different way, to connect differently, thinking that it can be better, and again, we get hit with a blow.
And on the spiritual level, everything is very simple. We see that everything is connected in one system from Keter to Malchut—three lines and nothing else.
Question: How can we reach such simplicity?
Answer: We will reach complete simplicity only at the final correction. Then, we will plug into the single system of ten parts where there is what is called HaVaYaH, which from ten turns into the four-letter name of the Creator, the four stages.

New Life #985 – Bitterness In Relationships

New Life #985 – Bitterness In Relationships
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz
Summary
We feel bitter when we don’t get something we want or expect and our egos are subsequently harmed. Instead of removing bitterness by lowering our expectations, we need to understand the root of the problem. Partners must learn about egoism and how “all who condemn do so with their own defect.” The wisdom of Kabbalah teaches us how to bring our hearts closer together and discover the upper world in a group framework. It is up to us to heal our relationship to the world with the help of the power of love and then the bitterness will disappear and everything will be corrected, good, sweet, and beautiful.

What Does The Creator Look Like?

laitman_250Question: Have any of the great Kabbalists ever seen the Creator with their own inner vision? What does He look like? Maybe this is silly, but I desperately want to somehow imagine Him. If a drop of water has the analogy of an ocean, then there must be an analogy to visualize the personality of the Creator.
Answer: First, the Creator has no personality. Secondly, when we, without understanding, imagine something to ourselves, we cannot “point” to something as the Creator. The Creator is the quality of connection, bestowal, and love. No more than that. It is something non-objective; not having any volume or image ‑ it is a quality, which we can identify in the person who possesses it.
In other words, if in you there is the quality of bestowal in whatever measure, strength, or power, then it can be said that the Creator is embodied in you and He exists in this part within you.
Question: Can a person see that the Creator is embodied in him?
Answer: No, you cannot see. The only thing is when an individual attains the quality of bestowal and love, he can, from within himself, sense with his inner vision how much the Creator exists in him, and even measure it.
The fact is that the wisdom of Kabbalah enables measurement of qualities, sensations, strength of desire, screen, the distance from and the closeness to the force of love or the force of rejection, and so forth. Ultimately, they all give us the picture of similarity of form or movement toward unity with the Creator. A person can experience the degree to which he is near or far from understanding of the “Creator.”
Question: Can it be said that there is the Creator and there is His quality?
Answer: No. When we say “Creator” we mean qualities. On the material level we also see only qualities, it only seems to us that these are objects. In fact, these are all forces.
Everything is composed of two forces: the force of reception and the force of bestowal. Their interactions create for us all manner of forms.

A Gift From Above

laitman_549.02Question: Can I say that my terrible disappointment in ordinary life is a gift to help me come to the truth of the upper world?
Answer: Definitely! It is really a gift. After all, so many people are still chasing satisfaction in material goals.
At the same time, Kabbalists in no way say that a person should become a hermit, limit himself, starve, and so on. On the contrary, enjoy life! Give the body what it wants. The main thing is that it does not interfere with you, does not take too much time and effort, and gives you the opportunity to study the higher nature.

Where Your Thoughts Are…

Laitman_001.01Remark: It is said that a person is where his thoughts are.
Answer: It is quite natural because a place is a person’s thought—his mind, his desire.
In Kabbalah, there is no physical place in which, as it seems to us, we exist today. This is an absolute illusion!
Question: Then what is “me”?
Answer: It is also an illusion. It is a collection of short waves that form the illusion of your body, your mind. It is nothing more than that.
Today, Kabbalists are not the only ones who discuss this. Scientists also do. In the past, Kabbalists could be blamed for heresy and ignorance, which is why Kabbalists lived in concealment.
If we open Kabbalistic sources written 2,000 to 3,000 years ago, we discover writings stating that our world is an absolute illusion. There is nothing in our world, not even elementary particles, only waves, and everything we see around us is represented to us in our inner sensations. We study this in the topic of perception of reality.
A person who reveals the spiritual world begins to attain that this is all within him, inside his consciousness, because there is nothing else but consciousness. All the pictures allegedly existing around us in reality are drawn for us in our minds.

New Life #978 – Good Deeds

New Life #978 – Good Deeds
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel
Summary
What is a good deed and how does it affect the giver and the recipient, what is the connection between health and good deeds, and how does a good relationship affect the rest of the world? The highest development is to benefit others in order to connect to a higher power, to God, to the absolute good. According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, up to 10% of the population naturally enjoys giving. This wisdom teaches how to “love your neighbor as yourself” so that we can attain higher level forces. Relating positively to each other develops our soul since giving has the force of life. God is nature, a system that connects all the details of reality with the power of giving and love.

A Question Is A Desire For Fulfillment

Laitman_917.01Question: If your teacher were next to you now, would you ask him questions?
Answer: No, because you have to answer the questions that arise in you yourself.
Question: Why do you ask students to ask you questions?
Answer: To accelerate the exchange of views through which unity arises. The faster you can progress, the better. Speed depends on the rapprochement between you, and the rapprochement depends on the amount of discussions in the tens. That is why I’m trying to excite this all in you.
Question: Are there any questions for which you have no answer?
Answer: There are many questions in Kabbalah that cannot be answered. Students have to feel them from the inside.
A question is the desire to fulfill the heart and mind. Getting fulfilled will be the answer. If neither heart nor mind are ready to receive fulfillment, like a child you are trying to explain something to, but he cannot understand, then you cannot do anything.
Therefore, the message (answer) has to correspond with the vessel, the desire, and the intention that a student has. This is the problem.
Question: Did you ask Rabash many questions?
Answer: Yes. I asked questions for myself and for others.
Question: But today would you not ask anything?
Answer: No. I have nothing to ask. I can already ask him questions. If we were physically next to each other, we would sit and be silent.

No One Is Closer Than A Kabbalist

laitman_560Baal HaSulam, The Writings of the Last Generation: Consequently, the attaining person even becomes more natural, simpler, and most humble. It might even be said that before the endowment, that person and all the people were outside of the simple nature. This is because now he is equal, simple, and understands all people, and is very much involved with them. There is no one closer to the folk than he, and it is only him that they should love, for they have no closer brother than him.
A person who leads the people, a group, humanity, is the most important person on Earth for them because he provides them with contact with the Creator and explains the upper knowledge. He does not disclose anything new but simply lets people reveal their abilities into which he transfers the upper knowledge.
Question: What does it mean that a person who is awarded contact with the Creator becomes equal and simple?
Answer: In order to contact humanity and the Creator according to the laws of commutation, he, on one hand, must be equal to the masses, and on the other hand, tied to the upper sphere.
It is said that contact occurs when “…it is only him that they should love, for they have no closer brother than him.” That is, on the part of the masses, there must be an attitude toward him as a child to his father: sometimes love, sometimes devotion, sometimes obedience, sometimes demanding—the totality of all states.
Remark: The Magid of Vitebsk used to say that he is most thankful to people who spur him.
My Comment: The fact is that a person rises thanks to his haters. And those who admire him, on the contrary, weaken him.
I do not consider it possible for a Kabbalist to reveal himself and elevate himself in the eyes of the masses. Only if it is necessary to get them out of big problems so that they obey him, go or even run after him to move away from their troubles, then he can afford to show them in a limited form that he is the bearer of special forces. There is no other way.
Those who are near a Kabbalist usually feel him a little, see something, start to guess, sense, but these are microdoses.
Question: Baal HaSulam writes that a Kabbalist understands all the people by maintaining quite close relations with them. Is it an internal rapprochement or a relationship at the material level?
Answer: A Kabbalist, communicating with his disciples, relatives, with anyone, behaves in a deliberately simple way. He has no contact with them except for their common interests.

Not Punishment, But Correction

laitman_566.02Question: Is there punishment for past lives or for ancestors’ sins?
Answer: There are no punishments. Why do you think that you do anything at all? You are governed by nature. You act as it rules.
There is no punishment, only correction. Kabbalists are for a person’s correction, not prison. According to the Torah, in the past, people who committed a sin were sent to one of six cities in the country and they had to live there without leaving the city walls. There, they were re-educated.
Remark: I do not seem to have done anything wrong, but I suffer more than any villain.
My Comment: This is not punishment, but an urge to search.

New Life #35 – Chocolate-Coated Garbage, Part 2
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz
Summary
Couples could live in palaces but remain unhappy until they learn how to connectwith each other above the “garbage” between them. They need to acknowledge the garbage by repeatedly engaging in various exercises together and then setting goals to live together above it. They will get support for this by meeting with a group of couples every week. Their education needs to include how to give each other a good attitude and attention, how to forgive at the right time and in the right way, and how to do everything lovingly and from the heart.

HaVaYaH—The System Of All Parts Of The Universe

laitman_548.03Question: What does the Kabbalistic principle “I did not change my HaVaYaH” mean?
Answer: HaVaYaH is the system of all parts of the universe (Ha-Va-Ya-H) connected into one formula of interaction of the Light with the desire.
There are only two components in the creation—Light and desire. When Light enters desire, forms it for itself and the desire is ready to be like the Light, then such a system of interrelation is called HaVaYaH.
It is immutable, because it is initially defined based on the opposite qualities of Light and desire, which begin to complement each other by becoming mutually imbued with each other.
HaVaYaH is the structure of a corrected desire that has entered into complete adhesion with the Light. And every part of it is also a small HaVaYaH.
HaVaYaH does not change because the quality of bestowal and the quality of reception are initially given, constant, mutually complementary, and it is impossible to change anything here.

A Kabbalist’s Inner Mood

226Question from Facebook: I have been studying Kabbalah for more than five years. Before each lesson and each convention, I experience a feeling of fear, as if the world is collapsing, although there is no apparent reason for this feeling.
Answer: I have internal work to do. I experience the states of ascents, descentshappiness, fears, searches … I prepare for the lesson in advance to be together, in constant connection, in contact with the Creator, according to the principle “There is none else besides Him.” Even looking through the news I realize that everything comes from the Creator’s management, that the world is my reflection.
As a result, coming to the lesson, I have already been completely “formatted” to correctly perceive it. It is not a “hypnotic” fear that lives in me, but a sense of responsibility. I must constantly take care of my inner spiritual mood. And I’m very grateful for this need to set myself up like this.
The Creator sends us very different, sometimes very difficult circumstances. And we must relate to them responsibly, first and foremost. Caring for others, the constant aspiration of oneself outwardly, cancels fears. Take example from me.

New Life #34 – Chocolate-Coated Garbage, Part 1
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz
Summary
The relationship connection is like a home laboratory in which each partner can begin to study themselves and their partner. Dr. Michael Laitman shares exercises and techniques of how to create a happy relationship, and through a happy relationship, how to achieve love for the entire world.
Partners should speak freely and honestly with each other about human nature, without shame or fear, sharing objectively, with love for one another, and not taking anything personally. The resulting “pile of garbage” between them needs to be removed or covered. This is done by remembering the most perfect moment in their lives, freezing it, and living in it. They talk about it and share heartfelt praises with each other. Finally, the partners share their biggest and most intimate desires with each other and take them on as their own.

Why Do Newborns Cry So Much?

Laitman_509Question: Why do newborns cry so much?
Answer: They have very small minds. They feel only their feelings and cannot balance them with reason. That is why they are either happy or they cry.
Question: Does this phenomenon have a spiritual root?
Answer: This is a very small Kli (vessel), which lacks reasoning ability. That is why a newborn displays what it feels.
Remark: Your teacher Rabash used to say that when a child cries, no one pays attention, but when an adult cries, then we understand that there is some kind of prayer there.
My Comment: Among adults there are people with different sensitivities. That is why their tears are not related to spirituality. Kabbalists are prone to serious expressions of emotion, but these, as a rule, are rarely seen externally.

Does Punishment Exist In Kabbalah?

laitman_547.05Question: Does punishment exist in Kabbalah?
Answer: In Kabbalah, unlike in our world, all problems have to be solved in the middle line. The purulent tumor has to be opened and treated until it becomes a normal and healthy organism.
Question: But in our world we still have courts, prisons, etc.?
Answer: They do not solve anything. We see how prison does not help at all. People are isolated from society. What is the use? It is not a correction. A prison should be a system of a person’s correction. It should not work in the form of punishment.
Remark: Baal HaSulam writes that punishment is a reproach from society.
My Comment: Yes, but only if the society is prepared to treat a transgressor in a way that he would feel as an outcast. Then it will indeed become his correction.

How To Resolve Conflicts In The Family

Laitman_095Question: You say that happiness means resolution of conflicts. How can families solve them in order to avoid arguments?
Answer: This is a very interesting system: when together with your spouse you reveal some flaws, not in each other but in your relationship, and you come together to solve them.
It is always “between us” and “we are together”: in both negative and positive states. First, we stick together, and then we begin to reveal how to make the connection between us even more effective. We work on this by finding out what we lack for even greater connection.
Such actions must be done constantly because in this way we will grow spiritually. Spiritually! It is not about the contact of bodies or hearts.
Question: Let us assume that I have a conflict in my family. What should I do?
Answer: First of all, hug your spouse tightly and reach some kind of contact, mutual understanding. When you achieve this, initiate the conflict together to gain even greater mutual understanding.
That is, first one needs to build the contact, and then slowly initiate the conflict situations so that they contribute to even greater contact.
Question: When is the moment of real happiness?
Answer: When you work on this. If you work on this together, both in good and bad, you will have a feeling of constant happiness. The process itself brings pleasure.

New Life #33 – Transcendence And Fulfilling Your Partner

New Life #33 – Transcendence And Fulfilling Your Partner
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz
Summary
Couples need to learn how to apply the principle, “And you shall love your friend as yourself” in their relationships. This can only be done with the help of a supportive environment in which all the couples want to fight against the human ego. In workshops, we can learn to transcend criticism by relating to our partners as though they were already perfected. We can learn to fill all the deficiencies between us with love and become one body in truth.

Do We Need To Forgive?

laitman_543.02Question: They say that happiness is in forgiveness. What is forgiveness in Kabbalah? Do we need to forgive and if so, in what situations?
Answer: There is no forgiveness in Kabbalah. If you understand that something bad has happened but you forgive everything, then you postpone the resolution of the conflict, covering it up as if it does not exist.
Thus, you make our state even more critical. Therefore, forgiveness fails to resolve conflict. Next time it will “jump out” with even more force. Conflict is resolved only in the middle line.

How To Become Successful

laitman_565.01Question from Facebook: I have heard a lot of different advice on how to become successful. What is your advice as a Kabbalist on how to become successful?
Answer: First, imagine that you are successful and you do not need to become anyone.
Second, success is either short-lived or perfect and eternal, and then it is success in connection with the Creator, in the ascent above our world. If you wish this kind of success, the method of Kabbalah is at your service.
On the way to its realization, you will understand that the very movement forward is considered success.

Decipher The Pentateuch

laitman_527.07Question: What does it mean that Kabbalah is revealed in the world if the main Kabbalistic book, Moses’ Pentateuch has been published in billions of copies?
Answer: And how is the Torah (The Bible) revealed? Its essence remains concealed.
This book was written 3,000 years ago. Its appearance is an extraordinary event. How it is written, its language, is wondrous!
However, the fact is that no one understands the true essence of the Torah, and this true essence must be revealed.
After the Torah, there are Prophets (Neviim) and Scriptures (Ktuvim). These are all great books, but they are written in a language that needs to be deciphered.

How To Fulfill Your Mission

laitman_942Question: How do I find out what I need to do to fulfill my mission? Why is it difficult to figure it out?
Answer: I only need to work in my small group, inside a huge number of our groups, and always think about how we help each other become a single system. In our ten, we gradually gain the feeling of bestowal and reciprocity called “the Creator.”
In this feeling, which I sense existing in the ten, I will begin to see myself as being in the upper world. This is what we need to achieve.
