A Ticket To The Upper World

laitman_281_02Question: Is there a difference between the way men and women develop spiritually, and if so, what is it?
Answer: The Creator draws everyone to him, but women who feel an attraction to spirituality are in a preferable state compared to men, both qualitatively and in quantitatively. Women need to study just like men, but women should observe the appropriate separation between men and women; we have talked about it often.
Women don’t have to study TES (Talmud Eser Sefirot), which describes the upper system of the worlds if they are not attracted to it. A woman doesn’t need to undergo correction on such a level because her correction is achieved by helping the male part of the group.
Everything else is the same: women’s tens, women’s circles, women getting closer to each other, which is the most difficult thing for them, but this is actually what they should engage in because, in contrast to men, women don’t feel the need to be surrounded by other women.
A man feels the friends: they are all one group, embracing, advancing together in whichever direction they want. And women don’t feel that. They are by nature more individualistic, and so they need to draw closer together. Not to the same degree men do, of course, they are not required to do that. Women need to surround the men, help them, support them, and so move forward.
If a woman helps her husband and does everything so that he can advance spiritually, she receives through him to the degree that she helps him. If, in addition, she can work in a group of women and help not only her husband but the group of men, it provides her with an “entrance ticket” to the upper world.

First Impressions Of Kabbalah

laitman_527_07Question: I am a new student. When I listen to you, your words sound like a fresh mountain stream. But when I look at a thick book, it becomes scary. What should I do?
Answer: When I began to search for Kabbalistic sources, I ran around to all the shops and could not find anything. Then, suddenly, I came to a place where I found all the books about the wisdom of Kabbalah: Talmud Eser Sefirot, all of the volumes of The Book of Zohar, the writings of Ramchal, and others.
I immediately bought everything because they were nowhere else to be found. To acquire the collection of the writings of the Ari, I specifically went to a small suburb of Tel Aviv, went to the front garden, and knocked on the gate. An old woman came out to me who, after learning what I wanted, said, “I will look to see if there’s something left.” I asked for two sets of the fifteen volumes of the writings of the Ari, but she only handed me one.
She was the wife of a Kabbalist who, during his lifetime, published books, and he probably left her with a large storeroom after his death. That is how it was possible to get the writings of the Kabbalists.
When I brought these books home and began to read, it was like a bolt from the blue; they affected me so passionately. These were my very first impressions. After that, when you become familiar with the wisdom of Kabbalah, you feel how infinitely good it is and that it wishes to reveal the eternity, serenity, and goodness of creation to you.
Question: Did you understand anything from the writings of the Ari when you opened them?
Answer: In fact, at that time, I didn’t know how to read Hebrew. I had a local friend my same age who read them aloud, and I sat next to him and listened. Although I didn’t understand anything, I sensed that this was the most important thing.
I memorized what I heard, and somehow compared it within myself. Different kinds of pictures were born in my thoughts. I experienced all kinds of emotions, something incomprehensible. So, over four or five years, everything was read, and when I came to Rabash, it all instantly took on a completely different form.

Does A Kabbalist Feel The Spiritual World Constantly?

laitman_276_02Question: What does it mean to constantly be under impact of the spiritual and to feel the Creator at least 1%? Does a Kabbalist feel the spiritual world all the time in the same manner or does he sometimes exit it?
Answer: A person feels the spiritual world and at the same time he feels this world. He does not clearly distinguish between the existence of the corporeal body and the attainment of the world the surrounds him.
He lives in the corporeal body constantly, and feels it when asleep or awake. But he doesn’t feel the spiritual world when he is asleep, because then he is immersed only in his corporeal body.
In spirituality, a person has to attain the permanent feeling of the upper world, and when the corporeal body disappears from his sensations, he will permanently feel the spiritual world.
As long as the physical body exists, it controls a person’s feelings and suppresses the spiritual sensation, and a person has to make an effort in order to feel the spiritual world.

Feeling True Reality

laitman_761_3Question: What is the difference between the reality found outside of me and the perception of reality portrayed through my five senses?
Answer: The reality that a person perceives is portrayed within him by the Creator and not by anyone else. Even though it seems to him that he is in a specific physical or spiritual world, he is in fact found within a higher field, the Creator.
The Creator organizes within the person particular fundamental assumptions, preconditions, characteristics, and limitations, in regard to Him; and for the moment, a person perceives the Creator in the form of this world.
It is desirable to begin to perceive the Creator in the way that He exists and not in a form distorted by the limitations of his egoism. This sums up the work of every person. The main thing is to begin to understand that everything that happens to him is realized under the influence of the upper force upon him.

The Connection Between Materiality And Spirituality

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Once upon a time there lived a human being, and he had a soul. One day a material arrow destroyed his material body, and he died. This affected his soul. Does it mean that materiality can somehow affect spirituality?
Answer: Not at all, the soul has nothing to do with the material body and with what happens to a person. Suppose, he fell from his level. But what he has already done, having developed his first ten Sefirot, from the point in the heart and having begun to attain the upper states, stays within him and doesn’t disappear even if he falls from his level back to the earthly pursuits.
Question: Where is the soul or its first fragment located? Where are we located?
Answer: In our consciousness, and nowhere else.
This is exactly what scientists lack when they try to comprehend the next dimension, folding and unfolding universes, or the origin and disappearance of energy. Very soon we will discover many interesting paradoxes in our comprehension of nature. And all of them will lead us to a state of absolute confusion.
We will suddenly begin to disclose the borderline phenomena between the inanimate, vegetative, and animate worlds, and the upper world. All these so-called strict scientific dependencies that we perceive in our world will suddenly disappear, and instead of them we will get new, completely incomprehensible qualities, phenomena, laws, and formulas. And this is because we are approaching the revelation of the spiritual world.

The Plan For Exiting Crisis, Part 3

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What kind of social order will the integral education eventually bring us to?
Answer: The goal of the integral education isn’t to change the social order, but to educate a person. It has to teach a person how to exist in this world, not on the Moon or in the outer space, but on the Earth, and not in a bungalow in the jungle, but among people in a modern city of a developed country.
Particularly a hundred most developed countries experience problems now. And the more developed the country is, the more serious are the problems, even though there are more means to cover or muffle them up. But all the attempts to handle the problems do not lead to their resolution, they only drive the disease deeper inside until it explodes.
We have already seen what the right line and the left line lead to. The right line can lead to the fascist regime, but the left line can lead to Nazism as well. After all, these extreme manifestations are a swing to one direction or the other.
As a matter of fact, the left and the right differ only by a few words, but they are alike in their perseverance and fanaticism. They both are ready to destroy their opponents, those who do not agree with their opinion, because they are founded on one’s ego.
The integral education has to bring a new trend: the middle line that is neither left nor right. This needs to be taught because humanity cannot discover it on its own as there is no middle line in nature. By this we endow the humanity with an opportunity to enjoy a full spectrum of human inclinations, from left to right and from right to left, which is the middle line.
The middle line allows to rise above the human nature towards connection where love covers all crimes. There is no such possibility either in nature or in man’s nature, and without special education we will never come to it.
Such an education cannot be created by any university or academy, by the most intelligent professors, but only by the Kabbalists who study and use the middle line, building good relationships on top of all evil.
A human society, a family, and even a friendship between two people can exist only in the balanced form that doesn’t destroy either good or evil, left or right, but instead covers all differences and rises above them. This is the only way connection can be achieved.
This method has to come from Kabbalah. Nature cannot disclose this method to us because there is no human degree in nature. Our physical bodies belong to the animate degree, but our awareness belongs to the human degree. Yet the human degree doesn’t exist in nature, only the still, vegetative, and animate degrees do.
The human degree means that we see, think, understand, and feel the human within ourselves, and there is no such thing in nature. We came out from apes but have not yet become humans, the human degree. A new quality called “a human” has not emerged within us yet. The fact that we’ve learned to use all kinds of machines instead of sticks does not mean that we became humans. It is still the same animal, only more confused.
It is the same ape that has developed to the point where it received an atomic bomb in its hands, and not the human degree we have to achieve. Nature continues the program of evolution, pushing us towards further development. And we are not ready for it because it contradicts all our previous development.
During the transition from one degree to another, it is necessary to cancel a previous degree, to make a restriction, rise above it, and invert it to the opposite quality.
This is why the ascent to the human degree is only possible on the condition that we restrict and use the previous degree only in an opposite form, for the sake of bestowal, so that all our egoism serves only to become its opposite.
But this requires education that stems from the speaking degree, from the educator who is already on the human level—Kabbalists. Therefore, the wisdom of Kabbalah is revealed in our days and can save humanity.
The form of the future society is described by Baal HaSulam in his article “The Last Generation.” But only the Kabbalists can teach humanity such relationships, and this is their mission. Therefore, in our time the wisdom of Kabbalah is revealed and there is an organization called Bnei Baruch. We have the right to exist only on the condition that we will prepare ourselves for the fulfillment of this mission.

New Life #821 – Democracy And Equality

New Life #821 – Democracy And Equality
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel
Summary
By teaching people to be mutually connected, we achieve equality and the ability to be considerate of others.
We are all connected by one system, and every individual is like a cogwheel without which the system cannot function. True equal rights are expressed in giving equal opportunities to everyone and bestowing goodness unto others. Our problem is education. At school today, children’s attitudes to each other and to the teachers is very bad. Democracy, equality, and a true relationship between people are the result of feeling that we are all one family.
Eventually we all have to feel that we are all one family, and this will make us feel what everyone needs and we will give it to them. When each one contributes as much as he can to society, it will be a true egalitarian democracy.

Scholarship Instead Of Welfare For Unemployment, Part 1

laitman_220Question: One of the problems of the modern world is mass unemployment. Thanks to the development of newest technology, the job market is going through significant changes. Slowly all professions will become unnecessary: computers will replace human beings at the workplace.
How do you feel about the implementation of universal basic income independent of whether an individual is working or not, which is being discussed all over the world and is already being introduced in several countries?
Answer: Sooner or later, based on the prognosis, and as soon as in a few years, the world with come to the end of its egoistic development. The end of the development of egoism is demonstrated by the elite taking 99.9% of all money for itself, leaving nothing for others. And in addition, the need for billions of people is also disappearing.
The elite no longer need them, but what is to be done with them? This is why, through the mass media, the masses are being persuaded to no longer desire to marry or have children; same-sex marriages are being advertised. But still, there is a need to somehow feed those who are still living, and that is why a decision is made to introduce guaranteed basic income.
That is, we see how capitalist countries are becoming almost socialist, since, excluding the financial elite, the rest of the government is becoming a system of welfare distribution. There is no way out, the population needs to be supported somehow. Even if they do not have work and have nothing to do, they still need to exist somehow.
I don’t know if these reforms will pass quietly and peacefully. Essentially, the money the elite have, they took from the people. And now they want to pay-off and return pitiful crumbs to the people? They will still be presented with a bill.
I have a great sense of foreboding in response to the possible development of events if the population is not given integral education and is not appeased. Even though calming them down can be done in various ways, perhaps the elite will decide to pass out narcotics so the people no longer need or demand anything.
Here arise such problems that eventually will still bring humanity to the need for correction, which is only possible through integral education. Even though, of course, it will not be easy to convince the elite of this.
It may be possible to begin in smaller countries by introducing integral education in some form: through educational facilities, systems of education for adults and senior citizens. And gradually develop this method of education until the entire society begins to feel what a huge benefit it brings.
Question: So you support the implementation of guaranteed base-level income?
Answer: I do not support it in the form in which it is now proposed. I would attach mandatory integral education to it. And this basic income would not be welfare benefit for the poor, but a scholarship payable to students. It should be received only by those who are enrolled in the course of study of integral education.
Question: How long will an individual be able to study and receive the scholarship?
Answer: Their entire life! In our global world, it is possible to pass such laws around the entire planet, so that not a single person could avoid them. We are talking about saving the world from a global catastrophe. Of course, it has not yet materialized and its development may still take several years, possibly being inherited by our children. But, it will inevitably happen. Already today, in Italy and Spain, the unemployment rate is about 30%.
Therefore, governments have no way out; they will have to begin introducing integral education. Otherwise, what will they do with the masses of unemployed people? They do not want to see their countries turn into wild jungles.

How Does The Path Of The Soul Begin?

laitman_222Question: From what state does the path of the soul begin?
Answer: The path of the soul begins with the question of the meaning of life that every person asks, but is hidden deep inside.
Usually such a question comes up in childhood but later fades with the onset of hormonal development. A person plunges into cares about family, children, and earnings and no longer looks for the answer.
But this is the most important question. Indeed, what is the point of living if I don’t know what I’m living for? Is it only about survival?
Therefore, we have to try to raise this question above everything else and we have to live, work, give birth, and build only to eventually understand the meaning of existence.

Twelve Tribes In One Nation, Part 4

laitman_929Question: The entire Torah is based on the law “love your neighbor as yourself.” Doesn’t it contradict the division of the people of Israel into twelve tribes? You are in one tribe; I am in another one; each tribe has its boundaries, which can’t be crossed, and each one should be in its own place.
Answer: Initially, there is one general structure that can’t be changed, as it is written, “I did not change My HaVaYaH.” We need to restore this construction in its complete form. Therefore, we do not change any part that remained after the shattering. There is a pile of debris from which we need to reassemble the body, like a puzzle.
We do not start to change the pieces of the puzzle and cut their edges in order to fit them into each other. We just need to find a correct connection between them. Each tribe also consists of twelve parts, divided according to the same program.
Imagine that there are two puzzles consisting of 1,000 parts, but the size of one is one meter by one meter and the other is two meters by two meters. Even if the difference is only in the size of the pieces, it is already impossible to combine the pieces of one puzzle with another. It is necessary to fully assemble them each puzzle separately.
Therefore, it is necessary to build the correct connection between the twelve tribes while preserving all the boundaries that exist between them on the current level. Then inside this correct connection, we reveal the force that connects them, which is called the Creator.
We take the pieces of the puzzle and try to connect them. For this we need to attract the Light that returns to the source, which will help us to understand how they should be connected. When all the pieces are connected, this puzzle suddenly begins to glow! The Light that is revealed in the completed puzzle, meaning in the correct connection between all of us, is the Creator.
Question: What should the pieces of the puzzle do in order to connect with each other?
Answer: The pieces of the puzzle must implement the method of Kabbalah: to study and to perform connection exercises. The entire essence of the wisdom of Kabbalah is to connect the pieces of the puzzle of the common soul, one person with another.

Above Body And Soul

laitman_742_03Question: A person explores the soul while in a physical body. If the physical body didn’t exist, would there be nobody to explore the soul?
Answer: No, the physical body is a fiction we exist in. The body was only given to us to begin to give shape to our soul. The body, as well as the world, is completely imaginary. The soul is an eternal state that you can attain today. Everything depends on you. Divinity or any other source will not help a person with this.
Question: Is it possible to say that our body is only a means of communication at the lowest level?
Answer: Yes. On the material level we connect with each other through the bodies.

Where Did The Torah Come From?

Laitman_137Question: How and from where did the Torah appear?
Answer: Thousands of years ago, a human being began to contemplate the purpose of his existence for the first time, not just his perishable body and how to feed it and organize the world around him.
A desire was awakened in humans to reach their roots and discover what shapes, sculpts, creates, and organizes them biologically.
The understanding of the biological nature of humans is not the problem. The problem is to understand according to what laws and with what intention the forces that created them operate.
People have still been asking these questions from generation to generation. From the basic question about the meaning of life, they have penetrated more and more deeply into nature, and nature helped them to do this.
Their intention was simple; they wanted to reach the origin of life. They sought to understand why we exist in this world and in what manner it is possible to observe our future state. Are we moving toward it in a desirable way or is there another direction? Could it be that everything that we do is automatic?
Doubts appeared in people regarding different ways of life, whether it is preferable to advance within the framework of a personal, limited life or to advance together with all of humanity. It isn’t important that this progress consisted of the invention of clubs, clay pots, or huts. The most important thing is where we are moving internally. How can we create our future destiny and do we have freedom of choice?
These questions led humanity to begin to discover the forces of evolution which they called the “hidden power” or “the angel Raziel.”
Humans began to gradually investigate why abilities and knowledge appeared in them, why today is different compared to yesterday, and what is happening in nature that compels them to change.
The evolutionary process is indeed also typical of apes, but people contemplate this and apes don’t. Apes don’t change themselves and the world around them, but people have a need to do this. In other words, from the start there is knowledge that is inherent in humans that leads them forward.
Questions are stimulated by this, like: “If there is an upper force that always awakens new thoughts and actions in me, can I decide where to direct my thoughts and determine my actions this way?
Can I achieve a final result that was not completely expected by the force that manages me? If that result is unexpected, does that mean that on the basis of my personal conclusions I myself am the manager?” People must know whether they are moving forward and that they are doing so correctly.
The question of freedom of choice appears in people from an understanding that people are completely locked within a deterministic nature that manages their thoughts and emotions.
People have nothing of their own, rather everything that exists in the intellect and emotions comes to them from an unclear source, and they cannot do anything about it. People are part of a “device,” which sends signals to them, and they put them into action. This is even though a person doesn’t sense this device and doesn’t think that he is a part of it.
If we accept the assumption that everything works like this, everything becomes simpler. Act according to your instincts and desires, create industrial, economic, and political systems; do anything that comes to mind.
Don’t consider the question of where your thoughts and desires come from and for what purpose they were given, because you are the mechanism of their implementation. We don’t feel that we are implementing an “alien” program because we feel that it is ours, it lives within us, and that is how humanity exists.
Although there is no freedom of choice, the meta-programming gives people the illusion of freedom of choice. Nonetheless, some people began to wonder, “From where am I receiving these signals? Do they appear in me spontaneously or do they come from a program of a higher power?”
The religious view states that if people were created by the program of nature, they can rely upon the program operating for their benefit. Since the higher nature is one step above humans, it is good, reasonable, and compassionate, meaning that everything is derived from divine grace and what will be, will be.
There exists a further point of view that says that if we are managed by nature, we have the possibility of investigating this system of our management, connecting with it, and understanding to what extent and how we can cooperate with it reciprocally since nature has created within us the prerequisites for us to understand it.
This is the point of view that was formulated in the Torah that Moses wrote, but even before its creation, there were identical writings by other Kabbalists. From Adam”on, all of those who attained the spiritual world described the higher power of management, the mechanism that activates all of creation.
Moses wrote the most comprehensive book, from A to Z, from “Bereshit” (“in the beginning,” the first word of the Torah) to “Israel” (the last word in the Torah). Everything that happens in the creature from its first foundations until it is materialized in our world, as well as its ultimate future state is expressed in the Torah.
The Torah is considered to be fundamental. Although it is written in a unique language, there is nothing in it that is of literary significance. The Torah doesn’t talk about people working in the world, but only about the forces that manage creation, the forces that manage the enormous system that is beyond our attainment and in which we, and even our world, are included as a small part of.
The Torah is the general management system of creation that includes within it the still, vegetative, animate, and speaking levels of nature beginning from its spiritual creation through its materialistic formation to the successful conclusion of its future development called the completion of correction.

New Life #820 – Democracy And Individual Freedom

New Life #820 – Democracy And Individual Freedom
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel
Summary
Democracy will remain nothing but an imaginary philosophical concept unless human nature is corrected.
Man’s nature is the desire to be free and that everyone will serve him. This leads to clashes with others, and so true democracy, which will actually promise freedom to the individual, can only be established through educating people.
Only after every individual in society learns to feel that his own good and the good of the society are one will we be able to live in a democracy.

Haaretz: “Good News! It’s OK to Talk about Anti-Semitism in America”

In my regular column in Haaretz, my new article: “Good News! It’s OK to Talk about Anti-Semitism in America
…because now we can talk about its causes and solutions.
In just over a month, more than 100 JCCs and synagogues received bomb threats and were forced to evacuate, three Jewish cemeteries were vandalized, one synagogue was shot at while people were inside, and swastikas were painted on buildings and cars.
“I raced from work twice after getting texts saying the kids had all been moved out of the building,” said one mother in the Midwest, who asked not to be named so as not to draw more attention from “whatever sick people are making these threats.”
“I know it could happen anyplace, but the fact that lately the calls are happening at the JCC makes you constantly on edge,” said Allison Vitagliano, whose 4-year-old son was evacuated from his preschool at the JCC of Central New Jersey.
“I’m realizing I live in a naive bubble because I don’t understand where this hatred is coming from. I knew there was discrimination against Muslims, Mexicans, black people, gay people, but it’s strange to me that this is happening to Jewish people. I thought we were past that and we could focus on supporting the other groups who are under attack,” said Taylor, a former board member of the preschool at the JCC in Maitland, Fla.
“I’d be lying if I said that neither of us were scared,” said Alison Levy, who asked not to name her child’s day school, fearing that it could be targeted again.
Monday after school, Honora Gathings’ daughter didn’t greet her when she got home like she usually does. Instead, she said, “We had a Code Black.”
The media presents this wave of Jew-hatred as a new trend in America, but it is not. During the Obama Administration, there were no less than 7,000 anti-Semitic incidents in the US, but they went largely unreported by the mainstream media for political reasons. Now that the administration has changed and the media is no longer obliged to protect the White House, we can finally speak openly about anti-Semitism in America and ponder what this means for US Jewry.
Hatred Like No Other
First, we must not be naïve, as Taylor put it in the above quote. Anti-Semitism is the oldest, most tenacious hatred; it will outlive all other hatreds. There is a special characteristic to Jew-hatred: It is not really hatred of the Jews, but rather anger at the Jews.
The reason for this anger stems from our origin and our purpose. The Jewish people is like no other people. Its first manifestation came into existence nearly 4,000 years ago in ancient Babylon. At that time, Abraham, the son of a Babylonian priest called Terah, noticed that something bad was happening to his countryfolk. Despite the abundance of food and water in the land, the Babylonians became increasingly discontent with one another, and gradually grew angry and hostile toward each other, putting their thriving civilization at risk. The book Pirkey de Rabbi Eliezer describes how the builders of the Tower of Babylon “wanted to speak to one another but did not know each other’s language. What did they do?” the book asks. “Each took his sword and they fought each another to the death. Indeed, half the world was slaughtered there, and from there they scattered all over the world.”
Abraham was deeply troubled by the woes of his people, the Babylonians, and began to reflect on their problem, as Maimonides describes in detail in Mishneh Torah (Chapter 1). Finally, Abraham realized that the hatred erupting throughout his country was unstoppable; it was a force of nature. Abraham also realized that people’s hatred for each other would only grow over time because of the uncontrollable jealousy innate in human nature. Envy makes us not only want to have enough, but to have more than others and become superior to them.
Our sages summarized this trait of human nature with two famous truisms: 1) “The inclination of a man’s heart is evil from his youth” (Gen 8:21). 2) “A man does not leave the world with half his desire in his hand. Rather, if he has one hundred, he wants to have two hundred, and if he has two hundred, he wants to have four hundred” (Kohelet Rabah 3:13).
Understanding that he could not stop the intensification of the hatred, Abraham looked for a solution in nature. He observed that in nature, the negative force of destruction is balanced by equally strong positive force of connection. Today we know that protons and electrons would not be able to maintain a balanced structure of an atom without the two forces of attraction and rejection balancing each other out, and that this balance is maintained through all the levels of existence. The revelation of the balance between forces inspired Abraham to formulate a new mode of conducting human society.
Instead of trying to enforce laws that suppress the intrinsically egoistic human nature, efforts that invariably fail because our hatred for each other is ever growing, Abraham determined that we should reinforce our unity instead. Rather than focus on the bad, Abraham said, focus on the good—on mercy, love, compassion, and unity. While nature balances the positive and negative forces naturally, humans have to do this consciously.
A Notion for All the Nations
As soon as Abraham realized that he had found the key to the misery of the Babylonians, he began to spread the news wherever he could. Alas, his king, Nimrod, resented Abraham’s ideas. Instead of adopting the idea of unity above hatred, Nimrod chased Abraham out of Babylon.
But as the expat wandered toward Canaan, he kept speaking of his revelation. According to Maimonides, “thousands and tens of thousands assembled around him, and they are the people of the house of Abraham. He planted this tenet in their hearts, composed books about it, and taught his son, Isaac. And Isaac sat and taught and warned, and informed Jacob, and appointed him a teacher, to sit and teach… And Jacob our Father taught all his sons” (Mishneh Torah, Chapter 1). Finally, a tribe that knew the law of unity was formed. Abraham’s posterity continued to develop his method until finally, King Solomon capped it with one verse: “Hate stirs strife, and love covers all crimes” (Prov 10:12).
Abraham never intended for his idea to be the sole possession of his group. He wished to help the entire Babylonian civilization, and was forced to abandon his plan only because Nimrod forced him out of Babylon. Abraham’s disciples knew this and circulated the new ideas to anyone who wished to listen. When Moses led the people of Israel out of Egypt, he, too, wanted to impart the notion of unity over hatred to everyone. In his commentary on the Torah, the Ramchal wrote that “Moses wished to complete the correction of the world at that time. … However, he did not succeed because of the corruptions that occurred along the way.”
Since the world could not be corrected at the time, the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob became entrusted with the method and were tasked with serving as “a light unto nations.” The nation of Israel that was born at the foot of Mt. Sinai merited the title “nation” only after its members committed to unite “as one man with one heart.” This unique method of formation of a nation cemented their peoplehood so strongly that despite the efforts of the Babylonian, Egyptian, Greek, and Roman empires to destroy them, they have all faded into the annals of history, while the Jews continue to exist.
The task that we received, to be “a light unto nations,” is the task to spread the method of unity above hatred that Abraham discovered and his descendants perfected. The hatred we perceive as anti-Semitism derives from our obligation to the nations to deliver this method of connection, the ability to unite above hatred.
Approximately 2,000 years ago, we succumbed to hatred and abandoned our unity, thinking that the Roman culture would be more advantageous to us. In consequence, we not only lost our land, but we also “gained” the hatred of the nations—without a light unto nations, they had no hope of covering their own hatred of each other and were therefore doomed to everlasting wars. This is why anti-Semites such as Mel Gibson and retired General William Boykin blame us for all the wars in the world. Without our example, they feel hopeless and turn their anger at us.
Throughout the centuries, we have been accused of every conceivable and inconceivable crime. We have been blamed for controlling the media, usury, blood libels of various forms, well poisoning, dominating the slave trade, disloyalty to our host countries, organ harvesting and AIDS spreading. Over the years, communists accused us of creating capitalism, and capitalists accused us of inventing communism. Christians accused us of killing Jesus, and acclaimed French historian and philosopher François Voltaire accused us of inventing Christianity. We have been labeled warmongers and cowards, racists and cosmopolitans, spineless and unbending, and so on and so forth.
All of this happened to us because we abandoned our unity. When we are united, we are not only strong, but the world has hope, a light at the end of the tunnel. When we are separated, we are not a Jewish people anymore, but the riffraff that we were before Abraham assembled us into a tribe that knew the path of unity.
Our Hatred of Each Other Makes Us Hated
Today’s anti-Semitism in America is no different from any other anti-Semitism throughout the ages. It is the anger of the American non-Jews at the Jews for not showing the path of unity. Many people already link the increasing fragmentation in American society to the rise in anti-Semitism. They are correct in this because the people who are supposed to be a role model of unity are role models of tribal hatred instead. Just look at what is happening in our communities: People of different political views cannot spend holidays together and sometimes even divorce over who voted for whom!
Our hatred of each other causes Americans to hate us even more. They will end out blaming the Jews for their division and nothing that the Jews can say will convince them otherwise.
If we want to end anti-Semitism in America, then we Jews must first unite among ourselves .Liberal Jews and conservative Jews must rise to the occasion, put aside their differences, and unite in order to save themselves. Otherwise, the hatred that will develop in America will be as powerful, if not more so than the one that engulfed Germany in the 1930s, and whose consequences we commemorate each year .We can already see this happening; we must not wait until it’s too late. Our task is to unite above our differences, just as our forefathers did, and put all else—including politics—aside.
Unity in today’s political climate may seem impossible, but it is not at all so. Throughout the world, people are realizing that unity above all differences is the key to their happiness. They come together for unity events and discover that same “social cement” that Abraham discovered nearly four millennia ago. The next event to take place in the US will be on May 4-7 in New Jersey. Nearly one thousand people of all religions, races, and backgrounds will attend, and I hope that the warmth they will experience there will reinforce their conviction that unity above differences is the only viable way to create a sustainable, prosperous society.

Enflamed Egoism – The Cause Of Global Warming

laitman_293From “The Crisis and Its Solution” (Forum in Arosa, 2006):
Utilizing all forms of mass media, advertising, persuasion and upbringing, the new social perspective must:
1. Condemn egoistic activity openly and firmly;2. praise altruistic activity as being of highest value.
The topic of “giving back to society” must resound as the only and the highest social value.
Of course, had we received this kind of upbringing from childhood in kindergarten, school and onward through all forms of mass media—newspapers, radio, television— with the topic of giving back to society constantly resounding above the background noise of all other events, then all of humanity would have acquired a completely different form.
We have to come to this through the realization of evil, always revealing to a greater and greater degree that not one of our plans will be realized.
Man will not be able to realize even his most simple egoistic plans: the desire to succeed, to win, to delight in something. A question arises: Why? First, it is necessary to understand that nature has its own plans, according to which we develop. There is nothing to be done about this; we have to follow them instead of trying to create our own.
Suddenly a group of people gathers who want to take power. They organize a party and present their program of change for the world, the country, and the people. But where do they get these plans that seem so right to them? Does human society not need to develop according to nature? And would going against it not condemn us to suffering?
And still we continue to see in our world how each party and each ruler who come to power for several years ruin what can be ruined, and leaves. And he is replaced by a new party with new pretty promises to fix everything, but it only completes the destruction. No one cares what happens after they leave. There is not enough responsibility or understanding of what needs to be done.
There is no awareness that within nature is a specific program of development for human society, just as for every other part. All our research in nature proves that she knows what she is doing and develops everything in accordance with a clear plan, which has been in effect since before the appearance of humans on earth.
Planet earth evolved according to the laws of development of the inanimate level of nature, after that, the vegetative, animal, and finally, human. The entire evolution was programmed.
Inanimate nature plants, and animals suffer only as a result of human beings, and if not for us, they would not be suffering. Because there are no egoistic forces in them, they do not resist nature’s program, but instinctively obey all her laws.
But a human comes to this world in order to develop his egoism and to understand that by doing this he puts himself in opposition to nature. This is done on purpose, in order for him to compare his nature with the rest of nature and come to his own desire to follow her program, which is called the adhesion of creation with the Creator.
The work of a Kabbalist is to bring this knowledge to all of humanity. Today all conditions are available for this, both positive and negative. Negative conditions are revealed in the shattering of humanity, the global crisis.
Positive conditions are revealed in the global system of connection, the Internet, the ability to influence people outside the usual channels of mass media that follow their own selfish goals and propagate the viewpoints of those who pay them.
All that needs to be done is to “condemn egoistic actions openly and firmly, and praise altruistic actions as being of highest value.” Slowly it will reach humanity.
The most important point to convey in this explanation is that this comes from the laws of nature, from which we cannot escape. It is not a plan or principles dreamed up by some political party, but are the result of an intensive investigation of nature. And so we are not being asked if we agree with it or not—we are obliged to bring human society into agreement with the laws nature.
If human society enters this process, which is followed by the inanimate, vegetative, and animate levels of nature, then all levels will begin to function correctly. Therefore, if we correct the human being, then there will be no climate catastrophes, threats of global warming, or ice age.
Global warming does not depend on the external actions of people or exhaust fumes in the atmosphere, but only on the rise and fall of man. The cause is not in the development of our industrial technology, but in our egoistic interactions between each other—namely, it is the flame of our egoism that is raising the temperature in nature.

The Precise Definition Of Anti-Semitism

400In the News (The Guardian): “The government [of the United Kingdom] is to formally adopt a definition of what constitutes antisemitism, … with [Prime Minister] Theresa May saying the measure will help efforts to combat hate crime against Jews.”
Question: So who are the anti-Semites?
Answer: An anti-Semitic person is a person who doesn’t understand the mission of the Jews in this world and therefore hates them instead of directing them toward the right channel and helping them advance. But if he understands the mission of the Jews, for instance as Henry Ford understood it, then this is another problem already. He cannot overcome a fundamental natural anti-Semitism, and, therefore, he was a typical anti-Semite and helped Hitler.
At first, Hitler had a positive attitude toward Jews; one could even say he was friendly. He tried every way to try to speak to them rationally, suggesting that they leave Germany and move to Palestine. But they didn’t hear him. So he understood that nobody needed those Jews and nobody would stop him or oppose their annihilation. Incidentally, for him this was a big revelation because he thought that the whole world would begin to scream at him and condemn him. But it turned out that, on the contrary, they were even ready to help him. None of the leading nations came out against the genocide, even though they knew very well what was happening.
Is it possible to think that billions of people are anti-Semites? I don’t know. Or vice versa, is it possible to think about Jews as greater anti-Semites because they hate their role in this world? This is very topical and timeless. Today, among the American Jews, there are very many anti-Semites who are against Israel and Judaism. They shake Judaism off themselves, like a snake that sheds its skin, in an attempt to disguise themselves in every way possible. But in the Torah, it is written that this will not help, “I will get to you anywhere, no matter where you may be hiding,” says the Creator. And this is true, because Jews are not a nation, but are an accessory to the goal of creation, which that person must carry for the world. But if he doesn’t do this, then the world blames him for all of their problems. This is precisely what is happening.
We cannot escape from carrying out this mission. The entire world revolves around it. The anti-Semites are right, everything revolves around the Jews, and there is a reason for hatred toward these 15 million people. This is one of the smallest peoples of the world, but look at what they are doing. There are so many problems around them and so many emotions involved with them. Let’s hope that the Jews will recognize their mission to show the whole world an example of unity, as is written in the Torah: “And you shall love your friend as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18). This law of human society must extend to all the inhabitants of the world.
Question: The American Jews are now trying to blend in among other peoples. Could the Jewish people disappear?
Answer: No, they cannot because nature itself is conducting this process, arousing a desire in a person to blend in, in order to show him that this is impossible, and inevitably later, he will have to carry out his role in this world joyously.
