Aiming To The Point Of Balance

laitman_232.05Question: The truth is revealed in the point of balance. So why is the mind constantly trying to knock us off this point?
Answer: The mind is not trying to knock us off this point, but to awaken the sense of imbalance, like in an equilibrist balancing on a rope.
Our entire life is meant to give us a sense of imbalance, pushing us to look for a higher point of balance and thus to rise.
This point of balance is constantly renewed, not in its quantity, but in quality. We need to feel this ourselves.

How Can I Get Closer To Rabash?

721.03Question: I believe Baal HaSulam and you, but I cannot get close to Rabash. How can I do this?
Answer: Baal HaSulam is a great Kabbalist who attained, generalized, and systematized the science of Kabbalah. We are engaged in Kabbalah in order to master it not in the form of science, but in the form of a method of spiritual attainment. These are two different things, although interrelated.
When a person wants to enter the spiritual world himself, then Baal HaSulam is a theoretician for him. He cannot lead a person forward. Rabash leads us forward, explaining at every step where we are, what to do, how to act, what interaction to have in a group, with ourselves, and with the Creator.
I remember well how he wrote his first article, sitting next to me on a park bench. I gave him an aluminum cigarette wrapper, and on the back of it, he wrote a small article—the first of the future three-volume book.
At first, I asked him questions and he gave written answers to them. His first articles appeared this way. Later he wrote by himself.
Without these articles, we could not advance. At each morning lesson we devote an hour and a half to two hours to the articles of Rabash, only half an hour to The Study of the Ten Sefirot, and half an hour to the articles of Baal HaSulam.
It is even incomprehensible how people could master the spiritual space before Rabash, how they could feel it in themselves and advance to different levels. That is what he teaches us, because in our time, souls that descend into this world need it.
Rabash is a practicum of Kabbalah and Baal HaSulam is more a theoretical Kabbalist.
In order to get closer to Rabash, one must read his articles and listen to our lessons on them. All of them are in the archive, you can use them free of charge, access is free. Go ahead, dare!

New Life #225 – Maintaining A Positive Attitude, Part 1

New Life #225 – Maintaining a Positive Attitude, Part 1
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Tal Mandelbaum ben Moshe
Summary:
Learn how to achieve a positive attitude toward all events in life. We can reprogram ourselves to build a positive environment that can help a person advance while simultaneously being happy in every moment along the way. The basic law of this type of society is love: an internal, heartfelt, and limitless communication between everyone. The “half empty” glass is filled with success and freedom through love because when we connect to others we receive the power of eternal life.

Astronomical Parameters And The Jewish Calendar

laitman_427.02Question: How are days divided according to the Jewish calendar?
Answer: There are 24 hours in a day, four seasons, and  four Jewish New Years on a shifting schedule. The same schedule exists between day and night: days are longer and nights shorter in the summer, and the reverse during the winter.
According to the Jewish calendar, an hour is not 60 minutes, each of which is 60 seconds, but a conventional unit. This unit is not constant but is time dependent.
According to the usual calendar, it is considered that there are 12 hours from sunset till sunrise and from sunrise till the next sunset is also 12 hours. But by light hours, 20 hours could lapse from sunrise until sunset, and night (darkness) would last only four hours.
In this case, the day hour and the night hour are absolutely different. It is a bit like the sundial, which does not have a uniform dial, but is on a logarithmic scale.
Since the length of the day and night changes every day, it means that the length of the night and day hours changes every day. They depend only on Partzuf Zeir Anpin in the world of Atzilut, which actuality manages these actions, because the upper light passing through it onto Malchut (and Malchut is us), defines everything.
If we could only know exactly how it operates, we would feel this system, a gigantic astronomical machine that surrounds us and thus affects us. We would then start getting closer to its internal parameters: what does it mean more light – less light, warmer – colder? If we would live and work according to such hours, it would have been a completely different life.
On the other hand, how is it possible to exist in these mechanics? Why do we need it? Why should it affect us in this way? If we would restructure and live in accordance with it, how would we feel nature and ourselves? It is interesting! This means that we would start to feel it in accordance with its influence on us. The surrounding world, space, stars, everything would shine differently.

Fear Of Harming The Group

laitman_530Question: In my work with the ten, I feel that I harm the friends. Even when I do this, I have no strength to stop. However, I am terribly upset that I cannot change anything. Is this a prayer? Or should I do something more to reverse this situation and move on to the next state?
Answer: You have to pray and ask for the ten to help you become kind and good. Try to be frank with them, straightforward.
Do the same with the Creator. Do not be afraid to do so, it will help. If you do not do this, then your spiritual development in this life will not work.

New Life #223 – Romantic Love – The Perfect Pleasure

New Life #223 – Romantic Love – The Perfect Pleasure
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Tal Mandelbaum ben Moshe
Summary:
How can the limited love we are familiar with be transformed into real “true” love, eternal love? In true love relationships, the goal is to bring pleasure to each other by learning what the other enjoys and working to benefit and serve the other. Each one enjoys that the other enjoys. The two have to build a third thing between them, a kind of ball full of fear and mutual love, and live together inside it. The fear and the love are the deficiency and the filling that are constantly renewed. This mutually loving attitude brings eternal happiness and endless pleasure.

What Made Hitler An Anti-Semite?

Dr. Michael Laitman

From My Facebook Page Michael Laitman 5/1/19
Hitler saw that he could unite the people through anti-Semitism, and that he gained a lot of support through his anti-Semitic actions, and these were the stepping stones to Hitler’s becoming an anti-Semite.
Countries such as France, England and Poland, who were hostile to him and who he couldn’t conquer yet, agreed with him on his anti-Semitic stance, and thus he used anti-Semitism to rise above the people, unite the people, and to take the wealth of the Jews. He also publicized his actions against the Jews as much as possible, because he saw that the people agreed with and encouraged his anti-Semitic actions. Eventually, he became a true anti-Semite, even though he wasn’t one to begin with. When he started rising to power in Nazi Germany, there were even many Jews and the fathers of Zionism who supported him. In short, in terms of whether Hitler was an anti-Semite, he wasn’t one in the biological sense, where he felt a natural hatred of Jews from within. He became one as he saw that it garnered him a lot of support.

A Device Called The Soul

laitman_544Question: What is the difference between attainment and in-depth learning?
Answer: Any study is carried out with the help of the mind. One can study anything one wants but not attain it because knowledge in Kabbalah is based on the conjugation of properties.
We cannot perceive the spiritual world because we do not have adequate properties like it. For example, there are radio waves around us that we do not see and feel, but we create instruments that let us sense them.
Likewise, we need to build a device that will sense the spiritual world. It is called the soul and it must have the properties of the upper world, bestowal and mutual connection, which are absolutely opposite to our world.
We can find them in a group, in strict adherence to what the wisdom of Kabbalah teaches. As you accumulate sensory and rational material, you will begin to feel how it gradually forms in you. You will learn more about all sorts of patterns of spiritual elements, their various compounds, classes, levels, and so on.
In other words, when studying the science of Kabbalah—the physics of the upper world—certain feelings, properties, and sensations gradually form in you. You will build models inside yourself: “This is Bina, this is Malchut, this is Zeir Anpin, it is above the Parsa, this is below the Parsa,” and so on. This is the gradual design of your soul.

New Life #222 – Wealth And Happiness

New Life #222 – Wealth and Happiness

Summary:
To what extent does materialism distance us from being able to be satisfied, what is the way to be happy with our lot and what are the components of happiness and the method for discovering them?
The world is becoming integral and happiness is no longer found within a person. Only if I am connected with others do I have the ability to constantly renew my desires and pleasures and experience lasting happiness. The new wealth is found in the right relationships between us.

Map Of Fate

laitman_448In the Jewish calendar, there are special correlations between dates. This is because the spiritual system has an instrument called Zeir Anpin (ZA), which is clothed by Malchut, and the light of Binaenters it from above.
Zeir Anpin has particular openings or holes, through which it shines to Malchut. When some hole corresponds to the receiver, Malchut, the soul, then the light enters it, and this is called “Mazal” — a person’s destiny.
There are special correlations between days and nights and between various times. For example, something that can be done on a particular day and time of night, can also be done on a different day at a different time, and the results will be practically the same.
We see to what extent we are affected by the light of Bina. According to Zeir Anpin and Malchut, each time, we place ourselves in a new fate.
In Judaism, the astronomical tables were put together a very long time ago. Columbus, Newton, and other famous scientists as well as voyagers used them. Abraham himself was a great astronomer and astrologist.
During Abraham’s times, astrology was not like it is today. It was based on a clear connection between the placement of stars, the Moon, the Earth, and the Sun in regard to every person, relative to their soul, taking into consideration when he or she was conceived, born, and so on.
If we knew all that, we would know what will happen to every person and how they will act—their fate would be known. There was no need for fortune telling—this is the map of our destiny.

“What Can Jews Learn From The San Diego Synagogue Shooting?” (The Times Of Israel)

The Times of Israel published my new article “What Can Jews Learn from the San Diego Synagogue Shooting?
“I would rather die or spend the rest of my life in jail than know that I have done nothing to stop this evil,” reads a manifesto published online by the shooter targeting Jews at a synagogue in California this week. As we approach Holocaust Remembrance Day in memory of six million Jews who perished under the Nazi regime, the bloody incident is a brutal reminder that hatred toward Jews remains deeply rooted and far from eradicated. And until we Jews will fulfill our function in the world—to be a conduit for the force of unity to spread—we can expect more such outbursts.
One might wonder why the Jewish people still experiences this scourge after such a long history of persecution. What propels the evil minds of Jew-haters such as the 19-year-old who killed one Jewish worshiper and wounded three others in the attack? The wisdom of Kabbalah describes the phenomenon of anti-Semitism as a law of nature intended to compel Jews to unite.
The attacker was a nursing student and piano prodigy at age four, from a normal family, “the guy next door,” the last person one would suspect to commit such an act. He wrote the following words: “To my family and friends. I can already hear your voices. ‘How could you throw your life away? You had everything! You had a loving family. You had great friends. You had a church… I understand why you would ask this. But I pose a question to you now. What value does my life have compared to the entirety of the European race?” Logic demands to understand why existential threats to Jews come from every kind of background and so randomly.
According to The Book of Zohar, the seminal book of the wisdom of Kabbalah—a book that deals with the internal aspects of the Torah and its secrets, a book that explains the conduct of the world in all its layers—the answer is as follows:
“Israel is the heart of the whole world, and just as the organs of the body cannot exist in the world, not even one moment without the heart, so all the nations cannot exist in the world without Israel.”
As the heart functions to provide a life-giving flow of blood to the body’s organs, Israel’s function is to provide an indispensable spirit of life—a force of connection and spiritual abundance—to humanity. In other words: Jews are to be “a light unto the nations.”
As long as we Jews maintain unity between us—the same harmony that exists in all its parts of the still, vegetative and living nature—we are then assured of balance, calm and tranquility. But once we abandon our beneficial interconnection, and each becomes entrenched in his own little world, sinking into his egotistical mud, the system’s internal equilibrium destabilizes. Repercussions then appear in the world in a negative form, as outbursts of hatred against Jews.
Thus, the sooner we Jews will wake up to the fact that the exponentially-increasing anti-Semitic acts are trying to tell us that we are lagging in our function toward the world, and that by doing so, we block the unifying force from reaching humanity, then the sooner we will be able to start looking into how we can fulfill our role, establish positive ties, and experience a much more harmonious reality. It is my hope that we will realize this sooner rather than later, which will both spare ourselves and the world from suffering, as well as invite a whole new kind of fulfillment into our lives.

In A Group Of Like-Minded People

laitman_947Question: What should I do when extremely strong negative emotions overwhelm me? Such things cannot be discussed in the group, but I can’t keep them to myself, otherwise a deep depression begins. With whom can I discuss this? Truth be told, I am not in a group yet and am studying the first semester online.
Answer: With whom can you discuss such things if you are not in a group? With no one. I do not advise you to talk to anyone on this subject at all because no one will understand you.
You need to be in a permanent group and then, you will be able to discuss this with those friends who study with you, deal with the same problems, and have the same questions as you. It won’t work otherwise.
If you already have a group and a teacher, then you can ask questions and discuss some topics there. The teacher should put you in circles, from time to time, for you to get accustomed to a discussion.
Question: Should a person share his feelings when he is depressed?
Answer: Yes, you can share what you feel. There is nothing wrong with that. We all go through the same states. So, you will not say anything especially new. There will not be any of your personal, heartfelt secrets.
But you can talk about that only in the group, only with those with whom you study, not outside of the group—not with relatives, not at work, or at home.
Question: Where is the boundary of the prohibition for sharing your internal states with each other and discussing a storm of feelings with other new students?
Answer: I cannot tell you this because you still do not understand what levels we are talking about. I believe you must read the first 20 to 30 articles of Rabash, which explain the group work.
It is possible to discuss states of your spiritual development, your spiritual life among yourselves in a group. But only in the group.

New Life #221 – Happiness Is A Collective Phenomenon

New Life #221 – Happiness Is a Collective Phenomenon
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Tal Mandelbaum ben Moshe
Summary:
Our relationships are a key component of our quality of life. How do we project a mood into the environment and how we will create happiness around us?
People “infect” each other with pursuits, passions, and desires. People are built from the environment that surrounds them since we are all connected in a network of invisible pipes. The environment can affect everyone with a good mood, including those facing death. In order to improve the mood of others, we project joy and confidence. When we influence someone to be in a good mood, we receive double the happiness!

Practice Love For The Creator

Laitman_138Question: How do Kabbalists practice love for the Creator and what does it feel like?
Answer: Let’s try this practice together.
Try to constantly keep yourself in a thought that you want to love the Creator, you want to do good to Him, you aspire to Him with all your soul, you want to get closer to Him and feel Him.
Try and see whether you can develop an inner feeling that you are lacking this connection.
Best of all is to constantly think: “I would very much like to do good to Him.” Such inner yearning will quickly evoke certain sensations within you, and then you will be able to say: “Indeed, there is some point of a special attitude toward the Creator in me. Based on that, I can develop further.”
I repeat and keep thinking: “I want to have a constant urge to do good to the Creator. But I do not want the Creator to know about it. I just want to do it myself.” That is all.

New Life #220 – What Is Happiness?

New Life #220 – What Is Happiness?
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Tal Mandelbaum ben Moshe
Summary:
Why does happiness slip through our fingers, even when we achieve it? Inherent in us is a basic aspiration for happiness, yet the definition of happiness changes as we develop. In order to achieve true happiness, one must first acquire a lack of happiness. A person who has a deficiency that is constantly increasing and discovers how to fulfill it each time achieves eternal happiness. Today, we are facing a new stage in our human development in which we must develop ourselves towards internal, emotional fulfillment.

Exiting Egypt: From Two Forces To One

laitman_276.05The longer we are in the Egyptian exile, the more we want to come out of it. However, if we were there for a short time, then the desire to come out would be small. These two forces work in parallel—recognition of evil and coming out to the good—the greater one is, the more the other grows. Therefore, the exodus from Egypt is impossible without the sensation that you are in the grip of the egoism.1
We only need to strive toward the goal and each one will reveal whatever is necessary according to the root of his soul. This is not going anywhere, after all we are stepping on our Reshimot (informational data) by which the way to the end of correction is paved. There is no doubt where I will step next: Reshimo on the left, Reshimo on the right and so I advance walking on Reshimot. They are already laid out in front of me, only the speed of advancement and its character depend on me.2
The entire wisdom of Kabbalah and the work of a person are to discover the oneness of the Creator in practice, by becoming a part of that oneness. When I determine that “there is none else besides the Creator,” it means that I am becoming a part of Him. If we become like a punch and a matrix, a seal and an imprint, it is considered that I have built my soul.3
At first, I perceive the Creator and the Pharaoh as two completely opposite forces: the good and the evil, as if in this world I receive a reward or a punishment. Suddenly, I begin to reduce the difference between them more and more until I discover that there is neither evil nor good, but only my connection with “There is none else besides Him.” Therefore, it doesn’t matter to me what I receive from Him, the main thing is that it is from Him!4
If the Creator puts an obstacle before me, it means that beforehand He already arranged everything I need in order to overcome this obstacle. As it is written: “Holiness is increased, not decreased.” The Creator always gives us an opportunity to strengthen ourselves, connect, find new strength, and move forward. He makes a step forward first, and then from the new state sends us burdening of the heart in order to pull us closer to Him. We take a step after the Creator. He leads the way and we follow Him.5
How can we approach Passover in complete readiness in order to be worthy of the exodus from Egypt? We need to unite more. We have enough strength to exit, all we need is unity. Let’s hope that we will reach such connection that is suitable for the exodus from Egypt. That is, that we will feel an acute need to come out of the egoistic love and to unite so that the ten will become as one. Then from the minus, from separation, we will come to one whole, and then we will begin to increase, to grow this unit, due to these disturbances.
First we come from two opposite force, good and evil, to one force, to the point of exiting Egypt. Then from this point, two forces grow again: plus and minus.
First, we connect the good and the evil forces by determining that everything comes from the same Creator. Then we increase the Creator by rising above the disturbances, above the force of evil.6

Consequence Of Advancement

Laitman_144Question: Some new students who face sudden problems, think they are related to the study of Kabbalah. Is it so?
Answer: No. Problems in studying Kabbalah arise only in a group when friends begin to feel rejection and hostility. This results from advancement so that each time one will rise above these obstacles, nothing more.
Question: Where does the feeling that something is about to happen come from? Perhaps sensitivity increases?
Answer: Sensitivity also increases. How else can we overcome all sorts of obstacles in order to rise above them even higher and define the spiritual more if we do not feel them? Obstacles existed before, they just manifest themselves more now because we deserve it and we can rise above them.

Do We Need To Delve Into The Meaning Of The Text?

laitman_209Question: When we read the original sources together with a friend or in a group, do we need to conduct workshops in order to better understand the meaning of the text?
Answer: Yes and no. The fact is that sometimes delving into the meaning of the text confuses us and instead of going into feelings and connection between us, we begin to dissect the text into some phonetic, orthographic, or linguistic elements and properties. I think this is unnecessary.
It is possible to analyze it only from the perspective of our specific attainments in this text: what it should give to our connection in order to reveal the Creator. This is enough. The rest will come.
As soon as we begin to reveal the manifestation of the Creator between us, we will enter practical Kabbalah, and then everything written in the book will become clear. We will begin to understand what is written in The Study of the Ten Sefirot and other sources.

New Life #219 – Communication Between Parents And Teens

New Life #219 – Communication Between Parents and Teens
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz
Summary:
Conversation can be a powerful tool at home that allows a child to be a partner in our educational system. Parents should encourage their children and teens to talk about what’s happening and their related thoughts and impulses so they can build clarity and understanding regarding every situation they encounter. Children should be treated as independent, mature, responsible, and knowledgeable people in order to preserve their sense of self-respect and dignity. Teens should come to see their parents as loyal and wise friends through the power of conversation.

The Condition Of Attaining The Creator

laitman_934Question: It is hard to seek the Creator if He is felt as a source of suffering. Would efforts aimed to feel that He is good and does good be considered egoistic?
Answer: We need to reveal this. From those states we are trying to create in the group, we are preparing the ground for His attainment.
To the extent we reach the properties of love and bestowal, unity above our ego, we create the conditions, that is, the Kli (vessel) in which we attain the Creator.
The Creator is revealed in the Kli created by us to the extent of our similarity to His quality of bestowal and love, the quality that we have prepared for Him.

Why Turn to the Creator?

laitman_276.01Question: When I use the force of electricity or the force of gravity, I don’t need to ask anyone for anything. Why is it that in order to interact with the upper force of nature, I need to form a spiritual request?
Answer: Within the framework of the still, vegetative, or animate nature (since in this earthly existence we too are a part of the animate nature), we remain in a clear material state. We have nothing to ask about. We simply need to know how to adapt ourselves, learn, and use corporeal nature, study its laws, and try to somehow implement them correctly.
When we try to rise to the next level, to the spiritual degree of our existence, we enter a totally different relationship: a relationship with the Creator. Therefore, we are constantly tied to Him. He addresses us, and we turn to Him.
In this connection, when we want to become similar to Him, we create an image of likeness to the Creator for ourselves, called “our soul.”

Advancement In Greater Faith

laitman_557Question: As soon as a person begins to understand what faith above reason is, it becomes one’s knowledge. How can one continue working above reason? It turns out that everything we learn is constantly annulled above faith.
Answer: No, knowledge is not annulled, you just advance to even greater faith. You receive additional knowledge and the faith you have acquired becomes knowledge. Again, you must advance to faith above the acquired knowledge. This is how you move, just like on two feet.
Question: Am I getting smarter?
Answer: You become smarter through faith, which turns into knowledge.
This is the work in two lines. Faith rises and turns into knowledge. Faith rises and again turns into knowledge. That is, it is always 1 – 2, 1 – 2, 1 – 2, and so on.
Question: Is it true that the smarter I become, the harder it is to advance in faith above reason?
Answer: Not necessarily. A person understands, gets used to it, and becomes more experienced. But always one side is left and the other is right, and you advance like on two feet.

Suffering Becomes Sweet

laitman_962.1A person on a spiritual path can also encounter common problems in life. The question is whether he links them to the light of tomorrow, and thus, is he willing to suffer today. There are many people who agree to searches and restrictions for the sake of future achievements, for example, scientists who conduct scientific research, or mothers willing to endure labor pains and nine months of pregnancy to give birth to a baby.
Although it is suffering, it is chosen voluntarily. Therefore, you cannot say that suffering is always bad. If the goal justifies the suffering, then I am ready to go through it as a payment for the desired outcome. In general it is not clear if I could have achieved this goal without suffering. A free gift is usually not valued because there is no vessel for it, no desire, it is not achieved through one’s own efforts. I have not developed sensitivity for feeling this pleasure.
It cannot be said that suffering is only evil. We are created from the desire to enjoy and can feel spiritual fulfillment only if the desire is properly processed by the light and takes on a special form.
Look at the difference between an inanimate stone and a human body, which is so intricately arranged that we do not even understand how it works or the connections inside it. We know almost nothing about it. And all this is due to the fact that the light created a human body through many actions. Even creating a material body takes a lot of work. It is all due to suffering: the light struck the desire to enjoy, broke it, and connected it in various ways. How long did the development of the universe take until, as a result, human beings appeared?
All suffering has a clear goal; the only question is how, by getting involved in the work, to use suffering purposefully. Suffering then becomes sweet; instead of feeling the suffering, we will enjoy it. Research shows that even at the physiological level, laughter and crying are one and the same process in the body.1
When you receive suffering, you must immediately turn to the Creator and affirm that it comes from Him, the good that does good, for the sake of my advancement toward the goal. This entire world means nothing, and all of its petty, vile pricks are just to constantly keep me aimed at the Creator. “There is none else besides Him,” all this is shown to me by the Creator to draw my attention so that I would appeal to Him.
I put my foot forward to take the next step and turn to the Creator. One more step—I turn to Him again, and so on all the time. If I do not take my eyes off the Creator, then I will not stumble. Thus, we advance toward the connection with the Creator until we enter the state of a spiritual embryo.2
I should always feel some deficiency so that I have a reason to turn to the Creator. Every time I get a stimulus, it directs me toward “There is none else besides the Creator.” When I fulfill the measure corresponding to the root of my soul, perform a sufficient amount of actions that return me to the Creator and I associate them with Him, I begin to feel that I am in the “field blessed by the Creator.” That is, I no longer need to search for where the Creator is hiding, I feel myself in the field of His bestowal.
This is the attainment of the state of spiritual embryo. And before that, there is preparation for it, excitement: the Creator pulls me toward Him and pushes me away, pulls and pushes away. This is similar to physical copulation: entrances and exits. In the same way as the conception of a corporeal fetus, our entry into the holy Shechina takes place.3
I want to constantly depend on the Creator no matter if I am feeling good or bad. I rise above the external cause that pushed me toward the Creator and just want to be inside Him! That means that I am becoming a spiritual embryo.
It is necessary to constantly search and collect the desires leading one to the entry to the embryo. It is said: “Only His goodness and grace will chase me.” The Creator sends the excitement. He awakens a new desire in me to enjoy, and I feel bad, I start looking for Him and reach a certain connection in the light of Hassadim. He then awakens another desire to enjoy in me, and I seek Him again. And so every time: start – stop, entry – exit. All of these actions together are called “intercourse.”
After a person performs a sufficient number of such actions, “his seed becomes blessed”; that is, he turns into a drop of spiritual seed that penetrates into the womb, into the Creator, and becomes an embryo.4
