Pause

Due to the blog editor being on Holiday for 4 weeks the daily updates will pause for 4 weeks until the first weekend in January.
The actual, live blog is available here.

Each One Is Responsible For All, And All For One

laitman_962.3The purpose of creation is our correction of the shattering that occurred between us, the egoistic beginning that stands between us which is killing us, creating a feeling of temporary and damaged existence, into a desire to unite “as one man with one heart.” Everyone will perceive the others as himself, not feeling any difference between his friend and himself.
Whether we like it or not, this is the goal, and all of humanity is moving toward it. But of course, there are parts that are more advanced along this path, and others less so. This is not up to us; it depends on the informational genes and desires placed in each of us that determine each person’s place in this process: whether he is at the forefront, nearing, or even entering correction, or if he is trailing in the back where this process and the goal of creation are not even felt.
Our worldwide group Bnei Baruch is honored to be at the very forefront of those who implement the correction of creation in our generation. First, we need to connect with each other, and then the rest of humanity will join us to become as one person with one heart.
Such a connection is called mutual guarantee, a special connection where everyone depends on each other and each person is responsible for all others. We are the pioneers, and the rest of the world will follow. To the extent that we succeed in uniting, we will be able to feel within our common vessel the power of unity, which is called the Creator, the upper Light.
According to the power of our unity, the Creator is revealed more and more, as the Light of Nefesh, Ruach, Neshama, Haya, and Yechida. Yechida is the highest form of connection we can possibly achieve. This power is revealed only because of our efforts and due to our success, and this is why we have been given the science of Kabbalah, the science of connection, the goal of which is to lead a person to love his friend like himself, which is the formula of good and right connection.
The goal of this congress is to scrutinize the conditions needed to achieve the principles of creation, its program, and purpose. Therefore, our goal is to reveal the Creator inside our connection in practice.
To the extent of our success, we will influence all others because we are the center in this generation where the strongest and the most advanced people are concentrated in terms of implementing correction. These forces will spread from us to all who want to join us that feel that a higher power and this entire life pushes them to unite.
These days, the necessity of such connection is becoming apparent all over the world because people are feeling not just their suffering, but also its cause. And this is already the revelation of evil that gradually leads us toward correction.
We have a big task ahead of us and each one has to feel responsible for the rest as an important part of a single system. If he fails to realize his function to the fullest extent, this flaw will be felt in the entire system on all its levels and in all the connections.
The first step in achieving this connection is to separate oneself from one’s own benefit, to raise above one’s “I” and dedicate oneself to the group, like a mother who is completely devoted to her baby. Then the only thing of importance for me will be what benefits or hinders the connection, and each moment I will check myself according to the internal or external conditions that the Creator brings us in order to lead us to the one common soul.
In this common spiritual vessel, the single upper force will be revealed to us, and it will let us enter the mutual guarantee, the feeling of unity, which is the upper spiritual force. That is why we must raise above our “I” and enter the “We.”1

One-Way Communication

laitman_962.7Remark: In Rabash’s time there was no Internet. Today social networks are highly developed. When disseminating on social networks, there is a risk of succumbing to corporeal pleasures. They literally suck people in.
My Comment: Dissemination can only be in that I express my opinion, the opinion of Kabbalah, or the opinion of my teachers.
We have only one-way communication! Whoever wants to—come to our site and study. Whoever does not want to—is free to leave. We do not engage in any dialogs or discussions.
Question: Will people in the group of the last generation absorb something from others around them?
Answer: We have nothing to absorb from them. We can only regret what they spend their time and energy on.
We can perceive from the others only their desire to come closer to an understanding of the rational, good, and eternal, but nothing else.

The Final Goal Is Universal Correction

laitman_292Question: Where is the world headed?
Answer: If you look at the final goal, then the world is moving toward a good state—universal correction. This is the goal we must reach.
In principle, it initially already exists in the spiritual world. First, the goal is always determined, and only afterward events unfold according to it, which depend on our behavior. We determine how to achieve it.
The spiritual world is built differently than our world. It unfolds from the end to the beginning. That is, you gradually determine what you need to achieve and then how to achieve it.
If, for example, an architect designs a building, he approximately imagines his ultimate goal, but it does not exist. And here, the goal does exist. Everything is determined by our participation.
We need to determine precisely what the goal is so that it is always in front of us and we move toward it at every moment.
In Kabbalah, it is considered as going by faith above reason when we go in bestowal above reception, absolutely clearly imagining the properties of the spiritual world and trying to realize them, as if we already exist in it.

Thrive Global: “Hanukkah: Setting Aside One Week For Life Transformation”

Thrive Global published my new article: “Hanukkah: Setting Aside One Week For Life Transformation
The word “Hanukkah,” from Hebrew “Hanu-Koh,” or “stop here,” represents the first stage of spiritual development, a process of correcting the desire to enjoy for oneself and inverting it into a desire to bestowal unto others, a state that liberates us from darkness.
Hanukkah is not just another week in the Jewish calendar. It can be used as a respite dedicated to personal enlightenment, one week set aside for life transformation. The holiday of Hanukkah signifies the victory of light over darkness, unity over division. Indeed, such a victory requires no less than a miracle, but it is one within grasp. We need only know how to light the candle and make it happen.
Through our connection, we strike a match against the darkness and ignite the light in our lives. This is the brilliance of Hanukkah, the holiday of light. As with a match, a little friction transforms into a gleaming flame.
Of all the holidays, Hanukkah and Purim are considered special for many reasons. First, the Torah makes no mention of them. Second, after the full completion of humanity’s corrections, it is said that all the holidays will be canceled except for these two. According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, Hanukkah and Purim are of utmost importance because both are directly connected to the rebuilding of the Temple, which symbolizes the place where Creator and creation bond. The Temple’s ruin represents a breaking of this bond between us. Rebuilding that bond means attaining all the abundance and goodness in our existence. This is the Kabbalists’ quest.
Like a thirsty man trying to draw water with a leaky bucket, who must first fix the vessel before he can fill it and drink, one who feels detached from spirituality must first mend the bond with the Creator before being able to receive the offered illumination.
In order to live a purposeful life, we need to ascend through a cycle of spiritual development called “a year.” In each upward cycle, we face the same desires met previously, but on ever-higher degrees each time. While we do so, we encounter recurrent milestones of inner changes, discernments and situations aimed at rising to the next spiritual degree, the correction of the soul. The Kabbalists call these degrees “holidays” and “Sabbaths.”
The holidays and Sabbath in our world were determined by Kabbalists to provide a framework of behaviors in accordance with our work in the inner spiritual world. That is the reason we celebrate the holidays each year and the Sabbath each week.
Stopover on an Enlightened Path
The word Hanukkah, from Hebrew “Hanu-Koh,” or “stop here,” represents the first stage of spiritual development, a process of correcting the desire to enjoy for oneself and inverting it into a desire to bestowal unto others, a state that liberates us from darkness. Darkness manifests as separation, conflicts, arguments, ruthless competitiveness, and the desire to exploit and dominate others. Our inner struggle to overcome our egoistic nature is what we call “the War of the Maccabees against the Greeks,” i.e. “Greeks” symbolizing characteristics that yearn for control over us.
The victory over the Greeks is the foundation of any person’s path on the spiritual ladder. This triumph lets us perform corrections that will lead to the final correction—Purim—when we attain the endless bounty that the Creator prepared for all.
When we can rejoice in each other’s successes, share our concerns, in mutual connection, we will realize what nature tries to teach us: that we belong to one single body. If we take just the tiniest step in this direction, we will see miracles on the way. We will see how a small lamp, the smallest jar of oil, will kindle a strong and warm fire that illuminates everyone’s life.
What Is the Miracle of Hanukkah?
Overcoming our ego—the desire to enjoy at others’ expense—requires rising above our nature, and this is considered a miracle. Instinctively, our ego governs our existence, even though the outcome causes a boomerang effect that brings us suffering. How then does this miracle happen? Every time we connect with each other, the force that is higher than all other forces, obstacles and conditions, is drawn into action and the miracles manifest before our eyes.
Although a miracle is a supernatural phenomenon, we are able to make it happen whenever we choose closer connection above all kinds of resistance. Today, if we wish to rise above our ego and try to connect positively with others, a completely new upper force will be revealed within us, and with its help, we will be able to bring peace, love and unity to the world.
Let us spin ourselves together around this exalted goal to ignite the spirit of unity, enlighten our lives, and radiate joy and fulfillment to everyone.
Happy Hanukkah!

“A Jewish Thought Network: The Most Powerful Weapon To Combat Anti-Semitism” (The Times Of Israel)

My new article “A Jewish Thought Network: The Most Powerful Weapon to Combat Anti-Semitism” was published recently in The Times of Israel.
When the word “Jew” becomes an insult there is a reason to worry. That is the reality a school teacher experiences in today’s Europe, as she needs to hide her religion out of fear for her safety. A recent poll conducted by CNN confirmed that hatred against Jews in Europe has never disappeared. It has just transformed itself into a more evident menace. It is in our hands, or more precisely, in the power of our thoughts as Jewish people to change this situation, because thoughts have transformational powers.
The CNN survey revealed that one-in-five Europeans justify anti-Semitism. However, these are only the ones who admit to it. The problem is not only on Europe’s soil. It’s global. At a recent summit to combat anti-Semitism, European Jewish Congress president Dr. Moshe Kantor mentioned that “Europe doesn’t have a monopoly on anti-Semitism anymore. No Jewish community anywhere in the world, however strong and well-organized, is now immune from Jew hatred.”
Exceptional situations prompt the proposal of extraordinary measures. At the conference held in Vienna, a “Catalogue of Policies to Combat Anti-Semitism” was drafted with the help of academics from Vienna, Tel Aviv and New York. One new approach suggested a call for new editions of the Bible and Quran to carry warning messages to highlight “anti-Semitic passages” within the holy texts.
Are such texts really a source of incitement against Jews? Would such markings really serve to “combat anti-Semitism”? And more importantly, what power do we have as Jews to eradicate the hostility against us?
Religious Anti-Semitism?
Researchers connect anti-Semitism to sections in the Bible about Jews being responsible for Christ’s crucifixion and to sections in the Quran that fanatic jihadists use to justify their crusade against the Jews and Western values. Back in April 2018, a group of 300 French intellectuals and politicians signed a manifesto to Islamic leaders in France asking that “verses of the Quran calling for the killing and punishment of Jews, Christians and unbelievers be rendered obsolete by theological authorities,” to avoid what they consider as incitement to violence.
Yet, after years of anti-hatred plans and meetings to discuss the frightening times, do we see any change? Indeed, something has changed, but not in a positive direction. Anti-Semitism is relentlessly on the rise worldwide and the future looks increasingly dark.
Since none of the proposed solutions have worked so far, maybe it is time for a new approach? We Jews need to look no further than our own heritage to discover the infallible weapon, a force sufficient to eliminate anti-Semitism once and for all. The wisdom of Kabbalah claims that with a shift in our collective consciousness, we can create a force field powerful enough to erase anti-Semitic manifestations from earth.
Our inner state of division or unity creates our outer reality and not vice versa. By changing our intention to unite as one, we harmonize with the force of creation, and reality is affected by the energy we radiate. How does it work? In order to understand how this defensive shield is built we need to explore the development of humanity’s defense systems.
The Power of Thought
The evolution of defense systems up to the atomic bomb, demonstrates that the stronger a weapon is, the more hidden it is to the human eye, and the heavier are its consequences. Cyberspace, for instance, could be the modern-day battlefield for potential world war if the imaginary “red button” falls into the wrong hands.
Taking this trend one step further, the most powerful and precise weapon being revealed today is the power of thought, although similarly, we are unaware of its magnitude and dimension because of its invisibility. The scientific community claims that we are connected at the human level in a field that is activated through our collective consciousness or thoughts. This field is similar to the force of gravity, electricity, or the electromagnetic field in that its exact operation is hidden from the human senses.
Kabbalah explains that such a unifying force is a law of nature—a network of forces that bind us together—not yet apparent to us, but it influences every aspect of our reality more than any other force. The power of thought is tremendously powerful and its scope of action lies in the network of our connection: we are as strong as we are united, and as weak as we are divided. We are the ones who constantly operate this network, we just need to become aware of it and discover how to consciously make it work for our collective benefit.
The power currently controlling this network is a negative, divisive force of rejection and hatred activated by our egoistic nature. It strikes back at us as waves of bigotry and animosity from the nations of the world. Unconsciously, the nations of the world feel that Jews hold the keys that activate this network for positive change, urging us to recognize our mission.
They are correct.
As stated in The Book of Zohar: “Just as the organs of the body cannot exist for one moment without the heart, so all nations cannot exist in the world without Israel.” So how can we effectively make a meaningful impact on today’s reality? This can be easily accomplished through effective use of the most widespread net encompassing humanity: cyberspace.
First, Jews must be an example of cohesion, understanding and mutual solidarity above differences, which would turn us into an enlightening force for the rest of the world. As expressed by Rav Kook, “The genuine movement of the Israeli soul at its grandest is expressed only by its sacred, eternal force, which flows within its spirit. It is that which has made it, is making it, and will make it still a nation that stands as a light unto nations.” (Letters of the RAAIAH, 3)
Our thoughts drawing us toward unity and softening critical attitudes toward one another have the power to evoke a positive force within the network of communication between us—a force capable of gradually neutralizing hatred and bringing about balance. This is the power capable of protecting us and leading us toward a good future.
As every path starts with a first step, every little thought from each of us toward positive human connection will increase exponentially and cause great changes in our reality because the power of thought is the most powerful weapon.
“Do not be surprised that one person’s actions bring elevation or decline to the whole world, for it is an unbending law that the general and the particular are as identical as two peas in a pod… Evidently, the value of an act of a part elevates or declines the entire whole.
– Kabbalist Rav Yehuda Ashlag, Introduction to the Book of Zohar, item 68.

Where Can You Get The Strength To See The Friends Above Yourself?

laitman_528.02Question: If the goal is clear to me and it is clear that you need to annul yourself before your friends, where will you get the strength to see them higher than yourself?
Answer: I understand that it does not come easily, sometimes it takes years. But constant efforts draw the upper Light, gradually giving a person the awareness that it is this work that is important and necessary.
Question: So I must close my eyes to the behavior of my friends who seem unfocused on the goal and just try to see what drives them?
Answer: In spiritual work, we should treat each other as if the vision of the Creator is manifested to us in this way. That is, I see not a friend, but what the Creator shows me in him.
Of course, his behavior can be interpreted in a number of ways, but I must always treat him with love. If we have a common goal, if we are tied to each other in the Creator, then there can be no other relationship.

“Brexit May Never Happen” (Medium)

Medium published my new article “Brexit may never happen.”
The time has come for a different kind of connection that is not based on egoism, which the current system is built on.
Thanks to the recent Brussels summit, there is now an agreement on the table for the withdrawal of the UK from the European Union, but I doubt that it will actually happen. It took 20 years to connect all these countries into a single entity, and I believe it will take at least another 20 to disassemble it.
Europe is beginning to disintegrate. The days are gone when Europe used to think about unification and was attracted to the idea of unification. All the EU countries wanted to be part of the new entity, and paid dearly for the loss of their independence.
Today, nationalistic trends are once again on the rise. For instance, the EU’s two main centers, Germany and France, are going through very difficult times and it’s only the beginning. They are afraid of losing their identity and stability. Compared to countries such as China, India, and Asia in general, they are no longer the center of the world. If until recently they were the cultural and educational centers of the world, they have recently filled themselves with migrants and are busy dealing with them, and they can no longer show the world that they are truly a cultural center.
It is a complicated situation. If we lose Europe’s culture and education, we then have no idea what direction the world will take. However, we still fail to fully grasp how the world loses its stability due to losing Europe as the foundation of Western culture and human education. It has developed over the last 2,000 years upon the backdrop of Rome, Greece, Judaism and Christianity. Essentially, we’re failing to take heed of the fact that humanity’s central elements are being replaced, and as a result, Western society and culture is on the decline.
Humanity has an inner, transcendental foundation. It is not so apparent, but this inner foundation is part of our DNA. Just as we inherit our parents’ genes, we inherited culture, education, science and access to the European way of life. America, South America, Asia, India, China and all colonialist development emerged from such an approach, and we fail to envision a world that loses the European element. It would be a completely different world to the one we now know, one that would be forever changed.
Europe’s influence on the world has always been extremely important. It went hand-in-hand with America’s economic power and influenced India and China. Now that these relations are fading, it is difficult to say what the future holds.
I cannot even find the words to convey how strongly I feel about this subject. Europe as the world’s cultural and educational infrastructure was in the making for 2,000 years. Even the structure of our governments come from the European approach. All these things are now losing their foundation.
Just as divorce is a difficult process, it will now be extremely difficult for England to extricate itself. The time has come for a different kind of connection that is not based on egoism, which the current system is built on. The end of the European Union actually marks the end of the world that has reigned for thousands of years, clearly demonstrating that we are not heading in a sustainable direction. The egoistic foundation does not let us connect in a positive way, and it is leading us from one disaster to the next.
Europe’s only hope at this point is to embark on a new path, by implementing a new form of education, one that emphasizes how to connect, collaborate and cooperate above the egoistic foundation. If we fail to connect above our egoistic divisions, then we will simply sit back and let the egoistic forces wipe out everything positive about Europe. There will then be no turning back to how things were.
The approaching economic crisis will accelerate this process and truly shake Europe. As soon as economic stability shatters, and people don’t have food to eat, then society’s flaws will become clearly visible. On one hand, we have an abundance of surplus merchandise and food, and on the other hand, no one wants to give anyone anything. What is the lesson to be learned from this unsuccessful union? It is that we are transitioning to a new world.
What was the European Union really based on? Why did all these countries decide to connect despite the wars and deep hatred? It is because they were afraid. France was afraid of Germany. Germany was afraid of all the others that were pressuring them. They wanted to unite for egoistic reasons and this is why it has failed so spectacularly. The Brexit affair might drag on and on, but one thing is for sure, Europe will never be the same again.

“The Nation Of Israel Is The Only Nation With No Biological Root“ (The Times Of Israel)

The Times of Israel published my new article “The Nation Of Israel Is The Only Nation With No Biological Root
The nation of Israel is the only nation in the world with no biological root.
Unlike other nations, which emerged from shared parents and a small group, the nation of Israel has no biological parentage. Instead, it emerges from ancient Babylon, where Abraham the Patriarch connected people from different nations based on a spiritual idea: the need to love and unite above all differences.
If the people who make up the nation of Israel unite based on this spiritual idea, then they can be considered as a nation. Likewise, there is no basis for them to be called a nation if they fail to aim themselves at love and unity. Especially today, the nation of Israel is visibly not a united people. From those who want to completely disidentify with being Jewish, to those who are against the existence of the State of Israel, as well as sharp divisions in views across various political, religious and secular factions, they can be compared to nuts in a bag: if there is pressure on the bag, then they are forced to come together, but if that pressure goes away, then they disperse in different directions.
Therefore, in our present reality, the nation of Israel is only a nation in potential. It is a group that has the potential to unite based on the spiritual idea of “love your friend as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18) and to be a positive example of such unity to humanity (“a light unto the nations” [Isaiah 49:6]). In other words, the group that emerged in ancient Babylon, which comprised of representatives from different nations who had a desire to unite above their inborn differences and achieve a positive and complete form of unity, received the method of how to unite from Abraham.
Why?
It was in order for them to pass the method and example of unity on to humanity at a time when humanity would need it. Today is such a time. Today, the human ego, characterized by the desire to enjoy at other people’s expense, has grown to overblown proportions. It sparks increasing divisions in societies and spurs conflicts between peoples and nations. Therefore, the need for unity, and a method and example of how to unite above any and all differences, rises in parallel with the increasing ruptures in human society.
Until the unifying potential of the nation of Israel becomes actualized, anti-Semitism will increasingly surface to pressure the Jewish people to actualize unity above their differences, and then pass this example onto humanity.

Paris Riots

Dr. Michael Laitman

From My Facebook Page Michael Laitman 12/3/18
The riots taking place in the heart of Paris are the seeds of an inevitable change in the rules of the socio-economic game in Europe.
The “yellow vests” people protest the rise in fuel prices and cost of living as they are vandalizing the streets, torching cars and pillaging shops on the Champs-Elysées. Even the statue of Marianne, the national symbol of freedom originating in the French Revolution, was not immune to the wrath of the protesters.
These violent acts express a growing sense of deprivation and exploitation that people feel towards their government. Beyond those who take to the streets, many are beginning to sense that the ruling elite is concerned with its own interests, with no regard to the needs of its citizens. They are beginning to realize that their leaders have one mission in mind: to preserve their throne in every possible way.
And when modern Europeans feel like they are being dispossessed from the little they have left in their pocket – everything becomes permissible. Their barbaric side comes out and their rage translates to violence, plunder, and chaos on the streets. Even if a person risks being shackled in prison the next moment, the erupting human ego cannot be restrained.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron was in Buenos Aires at the G20 summit, sitting around the table with other world leaders, as each of them maintains focus of their personal interests. In their case, the ego blinds them from seeing the intricate network of global interdependence that connects them. Every leader is busy tying another knot, ignoring how the reality around them is unraveling.
Setting the tone at the summit, Trump secures his country’s interests. He reaches understandings with his Chinese counterpart, to forge an agreement that will benefit both countries. The U.S. president typically demonstrates isolationism, yet with a clear aim to benefit his country. He does that, for example, by blocking the entry of illegal immigrants into America, unlike Europe, which keeps its doors wide open.
Europe in its deteriorating state is somewhat reminiscent of the Soviet Union in its pre-disintegration period. Social polarization is intensifying daily, there are many clashes of interests between leaders, and some countries are seeking to withdraw from the European Union – all the while waves of immigration continue to shake the socio-cultural fabric of the continent.
However, the powerful blow that will shock Europe will be the dissonance between affluence and poverty. While billions of euros are flowing across the European Union, the middle class is becoming poorer and angrier. At the same time, an unparalleled technological-industrial revolution is fast approaching, threatening hundreds of millions of jobs.
When approximately 60% of the public in one of the European countries find themselves out of the workforce and unable to return to it, changing the rules of the game will be inevitable. It is easy to envision a “European spring” scenario where riots – as we just saw in Paris – spread like wildfire across Europe.
Even today, a group of statisticians from Poland predict that we have about 12 years until a “global financial crisis of unprecedented scale” takes place. But in a globally integrated system, where every part is intertwined with everything else, such a crisis may certainly occur beforehand.
The first, necessary step in changing the rules of the game will be to provide some form of basic income to every person that will cover the basic necessities for life. However, bread alone will not satisfy the human being for long. A guaranteed income will appease the body, but not the spirit.
Economics is a reflection of human relations. It’s about what one gives to and receives from society. Therefore, if one will receive what he needs from society, and will no longer be judged by his socioeconomic status, social values will have to change.
Many will compete on the formation of new social values. Leaders, religions, radical activists, and various ideologies. But only one social concept will be capable of uniting Europeans and maintaining peace on the streets. It is the concept that will be in balance with the natural course of human development. The concept that will make every person recognize that we are all connected and interdependent. It will raise humans to a higher level of consciousness, introduce them to a deeper level of connection, and infuse their spirit with a new motivation. Ultimately, the quality of connection between people will be the basis for a healthy, new society and economy.

Grab Hold Of The Goal

laitman_942Question: When I see my friend as lower than myself, this is my normal egoistic state. Does all my work happen when I feel smaller than my friend?
Answer: No, because it is a question of work that it is necessary to come to through internal efforts. There are people who constantly feel below others. There are people who always feel superior. There are those who do not pay attention to others at all, do not even notice them.
All the work is to first grasp onto the goal, the Creator, and from this determine our present state. The fact that we are trying to grab hold of the goal together makes us equal.

Happy Holiday Of Spiritual Conception!

laitman_293.1The deeper we delve into explaining the holiday of Hanukkah, the more we are convinced that it contains the entire path, all events, and all states that one who wishes to reveal the spiritual world, the upper force, goes through.
It might seem like some ancient story that has turned into a folk or children’s holiday: lighting candles, eating sweet donuts…
However, in reality, Hanukkah contains the entire struggle of a person as he breaks out of this world, upward. He overcomes all of the obstacles that the Creator places in front of him in order to reveal, above them, the upper world, his eternal and perfect state, the “advantage of Light from the darkness.”
It becomes revealed precisely against the transient, imperfect states that come to us in times of great calamities and wars, the realization of human egoistic nature.
Discernments, discernments, discernments… through all the states that we are destined to undergo. No one treading this path can circumvent or skip any discernment or obstacle; one has to go through them one after another. No one will receive more or less work than the others—each person might have his own accents and measures, but in reality, every one of us goes through every step on this path.
Not only are we all parts of one body, but through the breaking we have also become included in one another and every person is inside everyone. Once, before the breaking, the reciprocal penetration was there only among the bestowing desires.
However, after Adam HaRishon’s downfall of sin, the receiving and bestowing desires intermixed with each other, along with the upper Light that had filled them at the time of the breakage. As a result, every state includes all the others, and only becomes discerned through the lack of correction. Therefore, every person has to go through all of the states.
The quality of bestowal, Bina, must become revealed during Hanukkah. It explains all of our characters to us, our path, the person’s exit from revealing this world to revealing the upper world that shows him what he must separate from and become free of, what he must distance himself from and what he must come closer to, cleave to, connect to, and in what forms.
This is all contained in the holiday of Hanukkah, in the corrections that we have to go through. We could call it “the holiday of spiritual conception and nursing,” that is, a small state for now. Yet it’s already a spiritual state: Even though a person still can’t use them practically, he is already gaining the understanding and forces that belong to the upper, spiritual world.
He enters the degree of Bina, and that is the entrance to the Garden of Eden! Starting from this stage and on, he builds himself in equivalence with the Creator. Before the holiday of Hanukkah, he was only correcting himself in order to rise above his egoism, to become free from it, and separate from it. By reading articles about Hanukkah, we strive to check, discern, and understand the conditions that allow us to acquire the quality of bestowal, Bina.

How Do We Organize Ourselves For Prayer

laitman_254.01The direct, natural reaction of the desire for the Light is programmed and known in advance, so there is no creation here. After all, “creation” (Beria) means “outside of state” (bar), that is, something new. The creation begins with the opportunity given to the desire to respond in an unnatural way, not instinctively, but according to different, extraneous criterion. The desire has to love the Light not for all kinds of pleasant fillings, but for the fact that the Light is elevated, special, giving, and has exceptional, noble qualities, peculiar only to the Light.
It turns out that the created being appreciates the Light precisely for the fact that it behaves in the opposite way to the nature of the desire: as giving and able to act outside its interest. The desire appreciates this quality. While enjoying the filling, the desire simultaneously realizes that the Light brings pleasure to it, fills it, cares for, and tends to it. It begins to appreciate this attitude like a child who grew up and appreciates his parents’ love and care. In this way, the Kli begins to appreciate the Creator.
In order to elevate the creation to its degree of bestowal, the Creator takes direct pleasures away from it, and enables it to fill itself and enjoy bestowal and not receiving.
In our life, we implement the same scenario. In infancy, we enjoy receiving from our parents, using them and demanding from them. Yet as we grow older, we gradually become separated from our parents, to this extent we begin to understand what they have done for us, and we treat our children in the same way.
The Creator leads us to independence, which appears when we move from the property of receiving to the property of bestowal, that is, when we use our desire to enjoy for the sake of bestowal in order to bring enjoyment to the Creator and not to ourselves.
This desire should come from us and should not be imposed by the Light. However, this is possible only under the condition that we are in the ten and bestow to each other, internally connecting with each other. Then through this connection, we receive the Light. We demand through the ten this special power of bestowal and use it. Although this energy of bestowal does not belong to us, we can form the need for it in ourselves.
Instead of the instinctive need for filling and enjoying filling ourselves, we want the power of bestowal and enjoyment from it. This is the purpose of creation: that all created beings enjoy bestowal, following the example of the Creator.
Love Is Stronger Than Nature
The prayer of the common man is to feel pleasant at every moment, and all inanimate nature, plants, and animals ask the same. It is an ordinary, instinctive prayer felt by a person as natural self-care or as the influence of a religion that teaches a person to turn to the Creator with a request for filling.
However, there is a method that teaches us to demand not an egoistic filling in this and in the next world, but the opportunity to become similar to the Creator, to His actions, and enjoy bestowal. Also, you can enjoy bestowal only when you love the one to whom you bestow, as parents enjoy bestowing to their child. By virtue of their love for the children, a parent receives from bestowing to a child even more than if he would take for himself.
This is a proof that love can be stronger than nature. Indeed, we see in inanimate nature, plants, and animals many examples when parents die for their offspring. Their instinct pushes them to sacrifice themselves. It turns out that bestowal illuminated by the power of love is stronger than the desire to enjoy.
Therefore, there are two kinds of prayer. The first one is the prayer of “people in the street” about selfish filling, enjoyment, confidence in the present and in the future, which may be unconscious, instinctive, or conscious. The second prayer is no longer that of one in the street, but in accordance with the Torah, that is, a request for the power of bestowal. In bestowal, the action itself is important and not its result, and I enjoy the fact that I do not expect any response from this action: it comes out of me and this is where everything ends for me. This is what the prayer is devoted to: to receive the ability to bestow, to fill your neighbor according to the example of the Creator, and thereby bestow pleasure to the Creator.1

Work In All Stages

laitman_963.7Question: How should we look at the friends: Are they higher than me, or are we all equal?
Answer: I do not care if they are higher or lower; I am prepared to work in all the stages! I have to relate to them differently.
After all, in the states of reception and bestowal in which we must achieve our unity, there is no higher and lower. There, each one is both higher and lower than the others since each of us has his own special qualities. I must give them to the whole large Kli (vessel), to the entire soul, and receive from it what I need for correct functioning.
Therefore, only when we care about the general state of the soul that is called either Adam or the Creator (depending on what we are talking about—either about the structure of the system itself or about its filling), can we talk about correct work. Only the connection with the Creator, or aspiration for this connection, gives us the basis for the correct work.
Question: Do I need to pay attention to the fact that friends’ aspiration to the Creator is stronger than mine?
Answer: If a person feels this way, it  drives him forward.
It is written: “The end of an act is in the preliminary thought”; that is, it determines the beginning of the action. Therefore, the main thing for me is to determine the Creator: what it is, what I am looking for, where I can go, what I aspire to, what state I see as my goal, and based on this, I will already be looking at what I need for achieving this goal.
Question: When I hold a goal before me, in what am I lower than my friends in the spiritual work in the group?
Answer: If any great Kabbalist finds himself in the smallest group, he will still be in something lower than them because he needs to have a connection with them so that they would influence him with their desires, hopes, and thoughts. He must receive from them their desires and their aspirations.
Without this, he will not be able to actively participate in the group, even if he is the greatest. He needs to be lower than them, to serve them in order to receive their aspiration to the Creator. Then, he will be able to work with these aspirations.

At War With Illusion

laitman_565.01Right now is a special period of time of the holiday of Hanukkah. But, in essence, Hanukkah is a process that exists until the very end of correction and is experienced at the beginning of every new degree.
Each time new informational records (Reshimot) from the shattering are revealed in us, we need to make a restriction, a screen, and reflected light, all of which is the essence of the Hanukkah correction.
We are always trying to remain within reason, to live according to our earthly intellect and experience, our habitual egoism accepted by this world. But in contrast, we need to build a different form. All that we see, experience, and understand with our hearts and minds is revealed only within our egoistic organs of perception, as it is written: “They have eyes and see not, they have ears but hear not.”
We want to experience what is happening in the desire to bestow, which is called faith above reason, deciding that everything comes from one upper force, the good that does good. And so each moment.
There are moments we are able to do this and other times we are not successful, but this war goes on continuously. Essentially, this is the war of the Maccabees against the Greeks. This war is being waged within reason, within our experience of this world, our rational minds and our philosophies, within our egoistic mind with which we built so many systems of connections between us.
We are fighting to establish a different form of existence, acknowledging that all our sensory experiences and perceptions are wrong. This is a false picture, a false perception of reality, because it appears within the egoistic mind.
Through the perception of reality within our rational minds, we need to try to feel that everything comes from only one, absolutely benevolent upper force. And every form perceived within the mind is only given to us in order to raise us to different perception, to faith above reason.
In other words, we agree that everything comes from the Creator and this is the specific form with which He can bring us to the true perception of reality, to the world of truth. We must try to establish the truth at every moment 24 hours every day, despite all the impressions in one’s earthly feelings and rational mind, which are not subject to doubt, that is, within reason.
Also, we do not run from this rational perception, because “…one against the other He created them.” We do not cross anything out, we only try to process it correctly: one against the other until we are able to develop understanding above reason for each understanding within reason.
That is how we attain the perception of spiritual reality and begin to function on two levels: on the material level, observing all its laws and rules accepted among the people of this world, and also in the true spiritual reality.
Then the upper Light is revealed because we are now able to light the jug of oil according to all the conditions, and in this way, we attain the revelation of the Creator and the upper world.
During the day, one day after the next, and every moment, we must try to see ourselves in this battle, imagining the picture within reason and juxtaposed against it, the picture above reason. This is the war of the Maccabees against the Greeks: Greeks are within reason and the Maccabees are above it.
