Torah, Deuteronomy 29:11 – 29:12: That you may enter the covenant of the Lord, your God, and His oath, which the Lord, your God, is making with you this day, in order to establish you this day as His people, and that He will be your God, as He spoke to you, and as He swore to your forefathers to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
Question: It is written: “In order to establish you this day as His people.” But haven’t the people been His throughout this entire journey?
Answer: Not at all! The people of the Creator are people who are totally interconnected with each other by the nature of the Creator. This is complete bestowal, complete love, complete substitution of each other, while they exist not in the sense of “me” but only “we.”
On entering the land of Israel, it does not exist. No one wishes bad to one another, but there is no mutual assistance. Each one is separate, on his own.
Mutual assistance is called love, but it is not. After all, the forty-year passage through the desert is meant only to rise above the ego from Malchut to Bina. And it is possible to begin to connect them together only now.
Question: Then, at what stage is the principle love covers all transgressions realized?
Answer: It is only in the land of Israel. In the desert, there is no love, but the people understand that it is ahead. It is clear to them what they can do and what they cannot; that is, it is only to rise above the ego, not work with it.
Therefore, entering “the covenant of the Lord, your God” and accepting “His oath” is taking place only now.
Question: Did this not happen at Mount Sinai?
Answer: No. There the responsibility to start this work was assumed, and then doing it begins. But the work consists of two parts. The first part is the movement toward the land of Israel. The second one is to work in the land of Israel with a desire that will be corrected for bestowal and love.
Love for one’s neighbor is the goal of the development of humanity and every human being in order to become similar to the Creator who is in a state of complete bestowal.
For us, the state of complete bestowal is defined as love for each other. We know that this is our ultimate goal, but we are still far from it. In none of our desires can we now become similar to the Creator. We can only rise above our egoism, that is, become neutral in something, but no more.
Movement in the desert still continues, but with the intention of love your neighbor as yourself.
