Fear Before The Creator

Torah, “Deuteronomy,” 04:09 – 04:10: But beware and watch yourself very well, lest you forget the things that your eyes saw, and lest these things depart from your heart, all the days of your life, and you shall make them known to your children and to your children’s children, the day you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, when the Lord said to me, “Assemble the people for Me, and I will let them hear My words, that they may learn to fear Me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children.

The fear isn’t a fear of the Creator or of the people, but a fear that I won’t be able to do everything that is required for Him.

Comment: Then why is it said, “They may learn to fear Me all the days that they live on the earth”?

Answer: In this particular case we are talking about animal fear inherent to people. The way a person fears thunder, lightning, wild beasts, robbers, and enemies, in the same way he fears the Creator. But the animal fear can’t be compared in any way to spiritual fear, when you make a calculation not regarding yourself but regarding your attitude to the Creator.

A person who exists in the spiritual world can’t allow himself not to have fear before the Creator. And from the point of view of egoism or some other calculations, this absolutely doesn’t matter to the person and to the Creator. He simply can’t afford any attitude to such a great ideal, other than fear.

The Creator is not a person and not some kind of image, but a model of bestowal, love, and the ability to exit yourself.

Remark: Prior to crossing the spiritual boundary, the Creator is hidden from us. And after the crossing, a person himself starts to hide, like Moses, who hides under the rock all the time. And people perceive this as a fear of the Creator.

Answer: First of all, there shouldn’t be fear of the Creator. The thing is that the Creator doesn’t punish us, but He leads, teaches, and educates us. Being the quality of absolute bestowal and love, the upper quality of nature, He does not seek to do something specifically with each one of us, but with infinite love and affection He constantly shows us how we must change.

If we understand this, we have a very clear, direct, sensitive connection to the Creator, and each time we can specifically correct ourselves in order to come constantly to this state with a better understanding of the higher mission, consciously, and not out of fear.

Question: Is it possible to say that this fear is a fear not to love enough, not to give enough?

Answer: The fact is that it is impossible to describe spiritual qualities in words. Only when a person receives them does he begin to understand what the Torah is talking about, and otherwise it is useless.
