When human beings discover the true essence of Creator and behaves according to the nature of the grantor or giver, that approach is so intense that he realizes that does not need the religion, it remains only as part of their cultural and social environment in this world.

Nothing Is Worse Than Indifference
Indifference is a result of the discrepancy of properties. Indifference is given to a person so he discovers who he really is without influence from above or the influence of the group. Through the group, I also receive influence from above because only through the group can I connect with the Creator and awaken His influence by myself.
Indifference is the most difficult thing. It testifies to the fact that a person has not established a devoted connection with the group, and through it, with the Creator. The chain: “Israel, the Torah, and the Creator” does not work, and therefore, indifference appears. There is nothing worse than that. Even conflict or disagreement is better, because it is at least a scrutiny. Indifference prevents you from any kind of scrutiny and one can get stuck in it for years.
Then awakening will come because a person is not alone, but is a part of a broken system. If other souls connected with the root of his soul begin to change and correct themselves, then they awaken him. He may even give up on spiritual advancement, but he suddenly wakes up because others need his presence and participation in reaching correction.
At the lowest level, indifference manifests in the fact that a person falls into this world and is satisfied with it, egotistically enjoying his life. He is only concerned with material fulfillment and becomes indifferent to spiritual advancement. The point in the heart stops shining because a person has not made enough of an effort to connect with his friends, with the teacher, and with the method.
Pride disallowed his connection to others. He felt stronger and smarter than others and it knocked him down. A person can invest tremendous energy in material matters, but can completely cool down to spirituality. It seems to him that he will succeed and earn a fortune, and this is a huge obstacle.
The group is obliged to sustain a sense of equality in each member. Although we are all different—some are more intuitive, others more knowledgeable—we all should be on an equal footing with no advantage of one over the others. The group must help a person on this point or his pride will grow and deflect him from the path. This is called “rescuing him from prison.”
He can feel at his best and completely fine, confident, and strong—and this is the egoistic prison. Because of this, he finds himself in a turbulent stream, carrying him to a high waterfall where he will be smashed into pieces.
Indifference is a very important feeling because it shows how much I lack the greatness of the Creator. I must therefore increase the importance of all the resources: the group, the teacher, the books, and the method. Indifference and even rejection constantly appear and we must overcome them, working in such a way. These are necessary stages (blows) on the path.1

Restriction And Blow
Restriction (Tzimtzum) is when I close my desire, disallowing myself to receive pleasure, like a baby who tightly squeezes his mouth shut and refuses to eat. A blow (Bitush) already assumes a condition: if I have the opportunity to eat for the mother’s pleasure, then I will happily open my mouth. But I do not have such an opportunity right now, so what do I do? Help me, give me the desire to please you, and I will be happy to open myself to receive.
The restriction is an unconditional action, and the blow occurs on the condition that I am ready to take pleasure if there is an adhesion between us. In the blow, my goal is connection. While in restriction there is no goal of connecting, only preventing yourself from receiving. I do not want any contact because I have no strength for more, only to restrict myself; otherwise, I will burn with shame.
The striking merger is already above shame. I no longer take shame into account, but only think about love and the connection between us, rising above selfishness. With a blow, I show that I am ready to receive a treat, not for myself, but only for the pleasure of the host.
At first we check our relationship with the host, and only when this spiritual connection of the heart has arisen can we translate it into action, and it descends into matter, into the desire to enjoy. Therefore, first of all, the decision is made in the Rosh of the Partzuf, in pure thoughts and feelings, disconnected from the clothing of the light in the desire, in matter. You can then perform this action, step by step, from easy to complex: the light of Nefesh, Ruach, Neshama, Haya, and Yechida.

How To Respond To The Creator’s Tremors
Question: How does one properly respond to the internal shocks that are awakened by the Creator? Should we disagree with what He sent? After all, He is “the good that does good.” How can I be against what He aroused in me?
Answer: No way! You should react only in the direction of even greater connection between us. Only in this way can you force His influence on us to be more positive and kind. To the extent of our connection between us, we influence Him in such a way that we positively change His governance.
Question: How do I recognize that He pushes me precisely to that, exactly toward what He is correcting?
Answer: For this you have to listen to Kabbalists. Until you enter the system, you will not recognize anything.

Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel
Israel is perceived as a very aggressive nation that wants to dominate the entire world and exploit everyone for its own good. If Israel wants security, it must invest in research and development of new relationships between people. The level of connection in the world depends upon the level of connection between us Jews. We determine how everything will be managed. Kabbalah teaches people how to connect with each other correctly.

“Guns At The Synagogue? Unleashing The True Weapon” (The Times Of Israel)
The Times of Israel published my new article “Guns at the Synagogue? Unleashing the True Weapon”
The spike in hate crimes has opened the debate over the use of guns for self-defense among the American Jewish community. “We live in a time of danger,” stated the US official for combating anti-Semitism, Elan Carr, in a recent conference in Jerusalem. He suggested to post security guards at every Jewish temple, community center and school in America. A rabbi in Boston backs this view and proposes that his members carry guns to the synagogue for protection. Others are already taking firearms training. It is better to be safe than sorry, but these are band-aid solutions to a problem that can only be solved from another level: through Jewish unity.
The deadly attacks in Pittsburgh and Poway, California prompted to reinforce security measures at Jewish facilities in the US. Incidents against the Jewish community increased 57 percent from 2016 to 2017, the highest in 20 years and the largest single-year rise in history, according to the Anti-Defamation League. And even though white supremacists are responsible for recent attacks and threats to synagogues, terrorism and violence inspired by Islamist extremism “continues to pose a serious threat to Americans,” says a recent report by the anti-Semitism watchdog group. It states that as June, three people have been arrested for plotting Islamist terrorist attacks including Jewish targets.
The uneasy feeling and menace facing Jews in America are, in fact, a wake up call to reflect on our state as a nation and follow what the Torah mandates to us: to connect by the principle of “love your neighbor as yourself,” and radiate that positive force to the rest of the world. If we fail to do that, non-Jews perceive our disunity as the cause of their problems, putting pressure on us through violent acts. Therefore, until we unite above our differences, anti-Semitism only will get worse. Arming ourselves will simply give us a false and empty sense of security.
We currently do not realize how humanity’s unity depends on Jewish unity. Both are deeply interrelated, as Jews have a central role in the world’s wellbeing. As it is written in the “Introduction to The Book of Zohar,” “Israel refers to the inner part of the world, whereas other nations are considered its outer part.” That central role of Jews is also explained in that seminal text as “a man of Israel elevates his outer material part over the inner, spiritual one, the outer part (the coarse and harmful elements in the nations of the world) accordingly rises over the inner part (the righteous among the nations of the world) and calamities and wars befall the world.”
Therefore, unity should be our priority. By getting closer to each other, narrowing the huge gap that currently separates us, we will become an example to humanity. The power of unity will make any form of hatred against Jews vanish. It is not only the strongest weapon—it is the only weapon that can guarantee peace and safety.

Striking Of The Inner And The Surrounding Light
The inner light (Ohr Pnimi) is what I receive from the host, enjoying in all my desires the taste of fulfillment and the attitude of the Creator who with all His greatness invites me to connect and bestows upon me. I feel all these corporeal, human, and spiritual pleasures on all levels and I am obliged to extract all possible pleasure from them.
However, all this is clothed in my intention to bestow to the host. I subjugate myself to Him and want to give Him contentment. There is no pleasure here that I feel outside of my relationship with the host. First of all, I connect with Him in the Rosh, become included in His intention, in His attitude toward me. I absorb His attitude toward me and I build a reciprocal attitude toward Him from it. Our relationship, His and mine, becomes clothed on each other and the inner light appears.
The surrounding light (Ohr Makif) shows how much I am not ready to do this. The surrounding light emerges out of my regret that I have to stop receiving pleasure from the host, rejecting His appeal to me due to my inability to respond to Him in the same way because of my lack of His greatness. The surrounding light is a consequence of my awareness of how small my love for the host is compared to His love for me.
The surrounding light is the clothing of the spiritual Partzuf, which reflects the reaction of the created being to the revelation of the Creator in it. Therefore, it presses on the Partzufand asks it to receive fulfillment, like a mother standing in front of a baby with a spoonful of food and trying to persuade him to open his mouth.1
My attitude toward the group and my care for it instead of caring for myself is an exact reflection of the work of the Partzuf with the upper light (Ohr Elyon). Even if I am not yet at such a degree that I can work directly with the light, it is already a close relationship. The Guf of the Partzuf is a measure of my connection with the group, and the Rosh is a calculation of how much I am able to connect with my friends according to my discernments, thoughts, and emotions.
Coupling by striking (Zivug de Haka’a) is striking at my egoism and adhesion through my decision above my mind and feelings to connect with friends like one man with one heart.
I strike my will to receive, push it away, and rise above it because I want to follow the mind and the emotion of the group and the Creator in it. Desire is my nature and the thought is something peripheral; therefore, it can be received from above or through the group, giving me the ability to understand, feel, and make decisions above my own thoughts.
My own thoughts and desires are the animate level. The desires and thoughts of the group can be above them only if I try to work with them.2
Restriction and Striking
Restriction is when I shut my desire, disallowing myself to receive pleasure, like a baby who tightly clenches its mouth and refuses to eat. The striking, however, already implies a condition: if I have the ability to eat for the sake of bringing contentment to mother, I will gladly open my mouth. But I do not have such an ability, so what do I do?! Help me, give me the desire to bring You contentment and I will be happy to open myself for the reception.
Restriction is an unconditional act and striking occurs on the condition that I am ready to accept the pleasure if there will be adhesion between us. In striking, my goal is connection. During the restriction, the purpose is not to connect but only to prevent me from receiving. I do not want any contact because I have no strength for anything but to restrict; otherwise, I will burn from shame.
Coupling by striking is already above shame. I do not take shame into account, but think only about love and connection between us, rising above egoism. By striking, I demonstrate that I am ready to receive the meal, not for myself but only to give contentment to the host. First, we check our relationship with the host and only when this heartfelt spiritual connection is established can we implement it in action and it descends into matter, into the will to receive.
This is why the decision is made first of all in the head of the Partzuf, in the pure thoughts and emotions not associated with the clothing of the light in the desires, in the matter. Only then can we perform this action, step by step, from light to heavy: the light of Nefesh, Ruach, Neshama, Haya, and Yechida.3

Desire Determines Thought
Answer: Desire determines thoughts. If it were the other way around, it would be good. But in fact, desires determine everything. This is what the Creator said: “I created desire,” an evil one at that. Thoughts appear in order to attain what is desired.
That is, at first I want, and then thoughts come to me about how to solve this problem. Thus, desire is primary and thought is secondary.

Nature is a desire to enjoy, which can develop through aggressive or gentler means.Animals do not enjoy harming other animals. When a person activates the power of the human ego at the expense of others, it is called aggression. There is a softer way to create enjoyment for others such as when a good singer influences the audience in a positive way. It is better to advance our relationships and fully realize oneself through the power of love and friendship.

A Descent Is Really An Ascent
I must be connected to the ten like a mother to her baby so that not a single thought of leaving it ever crosses my mind and I just become more and more connected to it with every passing day.1
I feel descent and darkness not because of the bad state I have fallen into but because I cannot overcome it and continue on my way. That is, I want to follow the path of truth, but I cannot overcome the descent, then I get help, as it is written: “He who comes to purify is aided.”
Advancement is measured precisely in the descent because during the ascent everything is full of light and such euphoria that nothing can be assessed. In the darkness while clarifying one’s attitude toward oneself, toward the group, toward the Creator, one can understand one’s state.
This lets me make a choice in what to consider as advancement—not a pleasant feeling, but striving for the goal. The fulfillment that I ask for is to give me the strength to advance, the need for the greatness of the Creator.
A new ascent begins only after a person has reached the ultimate depth of descent and feels darkness, despair, and helplessness, but resists it.2
Descent is a tool for ascent. If after the descent we do not work with the acquired tools, with the darkness, bitterness, helplessness, and confusion that are revealed to us, if we do not use them correctly, then it disappears in vain. This is how a wheel spins; the half that moved back must then move forward. If we do not assess the state that passed correctly, then we waste time in vain because the descent will not lead to an ascent. All ascents are the result of studying descents. After all, in the descent, new desires (Kelim) are revealed, and due to them, we advance. The descent is really an ascent.3
There is nothing to hide from our friends in the ten; we remove all the masks and there is nothing to be ashamed of. We go through such states that there is nothing left in each of us but one spark. And all the rest is connection of the sparks together with the Creator that is revealed between them.4

A person is composed of many forces, desires, thoughts, and inclinations and a person feels comfortable when they are in balance. We need to look at any inner conflict we experience as an opportunity to build a bridge of connection above it. Imbalance can be unhealthy at times and it can help us develop at other times. It is worthwhile to be curious when we experience conflicting thoughts, desires, pressures, and inclinations between the head and the heart or feelings and thoughts. By reflecting, comparing, and summarizing, we can create one, higher, complementary, balanced system of connection above it all.

Book Week And The People Of The Book
Israel is celebrating book week. It is clear that the publication and consumption of books increased dramatically over the last year. Despite the popularity of smartphones, it is evident that many new books were written and published. More and more people buy and read books.
Books will never die. Of course, it is very convenient to work on a computer preparing and editing texts and drawings. However, in order to get a full impression from a literary work of art, it must be in print. A book has a spiritual root that combines “the book, the author, and the story” (Sefer-Sofer-Sipur).
A book is not necessarily a printed volume. It can be a scroll or a carving on a stone, but it can never be on a screen because such text is not a work of human hands. A book is written by a person who has put an effort into its pages, into print. When I hold a book in my hands and read it, I feel that it belongs to me and I personally connect with its content.
I cannot, however, connect with a computer screen; it has no spiritual root. A computer, a screen, or a tablet do not exist in nature, but a book does. A book is created from natural materials in order to preserve knowledge and make a record of it in nature. I can never have the connection with the computer screen the way I have with a book because once the computer is turned off, everything disappears. The feeling comes from the spiritual root that is present in a book. There is an association between the person’s spiritual root and that of a book, which ensures our connection. Nothing, however, connects me with a computer. If you compare the impression received from the same work in a book format versus the computer screen, you will find that the printed text has a much greater effect on you.
The spiritual root of a book is connected with the root of the soul, and we can feel it. When I read a book, my soul unites with the spiritual root of the book and receives fulfillment. One can never get such fulfillment from the computer. A modern person cannot understand this because he has long forgotten printed books and lives in a virtual world. Computers are made of plastic, which breeds plastic knowledge and plastic hearts.
One does not print a text on the computer screen because a moment later, the screen will show something else. The text appears and then it disappears—it is not there. But if I pick up a book, it contains the thoughts and the desires of the author forever.
You must hold a book in your hands and read it letter by letter because it is an expression of the spiritual root. Thus, technology can further develop, but the book is eternal because it contains a spiritual root. Reading a book brings a certain pleasure, which is unachievable when reading from a screen. By reading from a screen, we obtain knowledge, but from the book we get the feeling.
The book unites the book-the author-the story (Sefer-Sofer-Sipur). There is a writer and his story conveyed to us in a book. A reader receives knowledge from the author and it becomes a part of him. Through the narrative, the author is able to deliver his story from inside the book, and share the root of his soul with a reader. There is no other way to convey an inner impression from one person to another.
Scientific knowledge, tables, and information can be transferred via the computer. But an emotional book that awakens love in one’s soul, a feeling of unity, is incomparable to a computer.
The people of Israel are called “the people of the book” because they were the ones who gave the world its main book that talks about the purpose of this world, about the structure of the entire system of the universe. There is only one book and all the others are its consequences, its small branches. The book of Torah explains the existence of the entire system of the world and our mission in such a system.
If I read a Kabbalistic book now, I am influencing its author although he died two thousand years ago because I am using the result of his work. Through our connection, through the unity in our hearts and souls, through my desire to influence the author, I have an impact on him. I elevate his soul as he elevates mine.

Combine The Double Image of the World
Question: In order to reach the state of true love, one must observe the single law of the universe, the similarity of properties. Does this mean that I should become like the qualities of nature, with that root cause that created me?
Answer: Yes, we need to become similar to nature in which we indeed reside. But how do you know what this nature actually is? Therefore, we have been given a group, supposedly existing people, with whom I should interact, considering myself and them as one common whole. Thus, I reach the focus, as, for example, from two figures or lines that by adjusting the focus, I turn them into one.
Question: Kabbalah states that nature is altruistic and we people, creation, are egoistic, that means that we have egocentric thinking and we have to bring ourselves to similarity with nature.
Although we understand what altruism is in general, we do not see it evidently in nature. Is it the same matter? Is it egoistic as well?
Answer: When Kabbalah reveals the method of one’s correction to a person, it becomes a method of one’s education. It explains to you how you should change and, in accordance with the changes in yourself, you will see the world corrected. That is how it works.
A person must understand that in one’s field of vision is a double image of the world, and one must combine them. By combining oneself with others into one whole, into one object, you correct yourself and see the world corrected.
The nature of the Creator who created us is altruistic and we have to become similar to Him, meaning similar to the quality of absolute bestowal. The Creator created us opposite to Himself on purpose so that we could attain Him from the opposite state.
By combining absolutely negative and absolutely positive qualities in oneself, a person will be able to rise to the next level of feeling the world.

The source of all illness is the separation between us. We are linked to a powerful, eternal system with no way out. This social and emotional communication system affects the state of our bodies. In fact, the body is only a shadow of the common soul. If we heal our relationships, everything will heal and no one would get sick in the first place. We are nourished by spirit and a good, social environment. A universal cure for all sickness is readily available if we build a true, loving connection between us that will reveal the general, healing force of nature.

A White Spot In The White Light
The cascading of the worlds from the top down to the shattering, to this world, happens only due to the upper one without any participation of the created being. The degrees of diminishing of the light and all kinds of forms of the will to receive are designed in order to separate the desire from the light and make it free.
So far, this works like an electrical system that does not have any free choice and even a shadow of a doubt. The created being does not do calculations in darkness and uncertainty, but it acts according to the distinct, calculated-from-above plan called the “cause and effect order of descent of the worlds from above downward.” There is no created being here yet but the work of formulas of interaction between the light and the desire.
Thus, the ladder is built: Galgalta, AB, SAG, and so on, down to this world. From the Creator comes the will to receive created by Him and also the desire of the light to bestow, and the relationship between them builds the degrees. The created being appears only after the shattering since, because of it, the spark of bestowal penetrates the will to receive. This force of bestowal gets imprinted there in the inverse form as an additional will to receive.
Working with this additional will to receive that came from the Light, the created being feels its oppositeness to the Creator, feels as a created being and not just a system of lights and desires, pluses and minuses. Therefore, it is possible to talk about the created being only after the sin of the Tree of Knowledge in which the root of the creation is formed. We still have a long way to go.1
The reason for the first restriction is that the Creator, by affecting the desire with the upper light, gives it an urge to restrict itself and stop receiving. This decision is born within the desire itself, which understands that it is more worthwhile to restrict itself and not to receive than to receive and feel shame. After that, the desire remains empty and makes decisions about the next actions, discovering that it is possible to receive for the sake of bestowal.
But all these are still desires inside the will to receive due to the influence of the light. There is still no free choice here—it is a mechanical calculation of the correlation of two forces. So far, there is nothing alive in this system that could make its own decisions, want, feel, and experience. It works automatically, like the internal physical and chemical processes in our body.
The decision is not made out of darkness, out of the shattering, and not out of uncertainty; that is, there is no condition for free choice of the created being. The light strikes upon it and obligates it to become a bestower, as the saying goes, “the situation obliges.” The light is acting here and there is no created being yet. The created being is the one who is, on one hand, disconnected from the Emanator, and, on the other hand, wants to resemble Him.2
So far, the created being does not have any doubts about what it should do. All the systems, except for the human, work according to simple mechanical formulas. They just seem complicated to us when we enter this work because we do not have enough inner qualities to resemble the upper force. Yet in fact, all these actions are clearly predetermined and do not imply any doubts and freewill.
The created being is primarily the one who has doubts. Many actions are required in order to create a person of this world who constantly suffers from doubts and uncertainty. He does not know where to go and must search for the means to stand against his egoistic desires and doubts.
A person establishes an empty area, for himself, a white spot, and takes care of its preservation. After all, if this empty area (the middle third of Tifferet) does not exist, then there will be no human. A human is the one who acts in states of uncertainty. He understands which forces operate from the right side and the left, but he must perform the connection of the left and the right line, which will not reduce his freewill and through which he will become similar to the Creator.
The main thing for the created being is to maintain his freedom because this is his main asset. If he loses his freedom, he immediately falls to the degree of a beast and he seemingly ceases to exist.3

Correct The Perception Of Reality
Remark: In The Book of Zohar it says that all the worlds, both, upper and lower and everything that exists in them, are created only for the sake of man, and everything lives and develops because of man. This was written 2,000 years ago.
My Comment: Everything is only for one person because nothing was created but Adam. Adam is the general system that we all are parts of.
The worlds are what we see in our still imperfect perception of reality because we reveal it in portions to the extent of our similarity with the highest governance, with the highest quality of bestowal. The upper worlds are our future states and the lower, the past ones.
Question: Is there a connection between desire and perception? In the Babylonian Talmud, written in the 3rd century AD, it says “everyone judges according to his flaw.” How can this be explained?
Answer: This means that we perceive reality not as it really is, but according to our vessel of perception, how corrected it is and how much it is uncorrected, so we partially feel the true reality and partly the false one. It is like when I put on my glasses, I see much better, but it is still not perfect vision.
Thus, if you see negative phenomena in the world, it is only because of your still-corrupted vessel of perception. There are people who see the opposite: what you see as negative, they see as positive.
Question: Does it mean that at a certain stage of evolutionary development it will be possible to reach a level where we look at the world and we will be able to say: “Everything in the world is perfect, there is nothing negative in it?”
Answer: In fact, yes. Everything depends only on our vessel of perception. If we correct it to a state of similarity to the light and love, then there will be no limit to our attainment, no feeling of corruption, or defects.

New Life #1096 – The Secrets of Nature
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel
Nothing is hidden in nature: everything that we discover in nature depends on the perceptive capacity of humanity. Human perception is limited within a person’s five senses which are based on the desire to receive. As we develop, a desire is awakened within a person to discover what is beyond these senses. The characteristic of bestowal is required for this stage of human development, meaning an intention to benefit others instead of ourselves. Evolution is advancing us toward building five new, spiritual senses with which we will absorb the eternity of nature and live simple, beautiful lives for the benefit of all.
