The Basis Of “Love Thy Friend As Thyself”

laitman_962.2It therefore follows that the rule, “Love thy friend as thyself,” is built on 612 Mitzvot. In other words, if we keep the 612 Mitzvot, we will be able to achieve the rule, “Love thy friend as thyself.” It turns out that the particular elements allow us to achieve the collective, and when we have the collective, we will be able to achieve the love of the Creator, as it is written, “My soul yearns for the Lord.” (Rabash, The Social Writings, “What Does the Rule ‘Love Thy Friend as Thyself’ Give Us?”)
If we take the commandment “Love thy neighbor as thyself” and interpret it in relation to the inanimate, vegetative, and animate nature, and most importantly, to a person in all life circumstances, we will reach all 612 commandments, which are summarized in the 613th. That is why there is no 613th commandment as such; it is a result of implementing the other 612 recommendations.
Remark: The world believes that one needs to fulfill all 613 commandments. Kabbalists, however, say that there is practically only one commandment: “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” All the others are attached to it, they are a part of it.
My Comment: It is written in many Kabbalistic sources, including The Book of Zohar.
In fact, we need to organize ourselves into a human society that would lead us to some kind of system, regulating each other’s relations based on the same commandment: “Love your neighbor.”
To do this, we have to study Kabbalah and learn to fulfill this commandment at every moment, in all circumstances, wherever we are. So gradually we will implement the 612 recommendations.
The Book of Zohar says that all the commandments of the Torah consist of 612 councils and 612 fulfillments. If I follow the advice correctly, then I get a certain portion of the upper Light, which corrects me.

New Life #1049 – The “Day Of Judgment” Part 2

New Life #1049 – The “Day Of Judgment” Part 2
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Tal Mandelbaum ben Moshe
Summary
Israel has a central place in the stories of the end of days because it is a mini-model of humanity. If we correct ourselves and love will exist between us, we will provide an example to humanity and the world will come to its final correction.

Spiritual Dimensions

Laitman_931.02Question: In what units does Kabbalah measure the strength of spiritual unity: the density of communication, the power of the connection? Why is the measure of connection equal to the measure of spiritual reward?
Answer: The measure of egoism is graded in five steps: zero, one, two, three, and four. If I rise above egoism and turn it into altruism, then I get the same number of spiritual steps: Malchut, Zeir Anpin, Bina, Hochma, Keter. Or five worlds: AssiyaYetziraBeria, Atzilut, and Adam Kadmon.
In each of the 125 degrees there is a clear demand, how to rise on it, how to stop, make a certain spiritual action, get the Light concealed in this step, and move on.
These are very accurate measurements. In our world, there is no such precision because here we have to prove everything; for example: one plus one = two. In the spiritual world, these proofs are part of its structure because it consists of two absolute opposites—the Light and the desire that is generated by it.

All People Are Parts Of One Common System

laitman_423.03Question: If other people are like animals according to their needs and interests, why should I try to come closer to them? And how could it be that something excites me yet doesn’t interest them at all?
Answer: All other people are the same as you. They are all necessary elements of one common system. Each has his or her own part. By working on yourself, you must come closer to everyone, try and pass on the higher information to them, and give them the opportunity to connect to it.
To the extent that we connect together in the system of “love your neighbor as yourself,” we elevate our world to the next level.
I don’t think there are people, organizations, religions, or methods in the world that would object to the call to love your neighbor. After all, day by day, we increasingly understand that the world is integral, interconnected, and that we need to do something with ourselves.
If we continue to be so fragmented and torn apart, we will lead the world to disaster. Also, if we try to connect with each other in one living organism, its cells will start functioning correctly as in a single system, then in this healthy organism, we will feel the higher life and ourselves existing in the spiritual field.

New Life #1048 – The “Day Of Judgment” Part 1

New Life #1048 – The “Day Of Judgment” Part 1
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Tal Mandelbaum ben Moshe
Summary
The days of judgment practiced in Judaism are external signs of what we need to maintain within us. According to Kabbalah, the meaning of the “Day of Judgment” is that a person examines his life and makes law and judgment for himself, “Where am I going? According to Kabbalah, “Judgment Day ” must be fulfilled in a person every day as a self-examination: “Do I progress to life with love?”

Yom Kippur: The Story of Jonah

High Holidays

Dr. Michael Laitman

From My Facebook Page Michael Laitman 9/18/18
Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, follows Rosh Hashanah. On this day, we fast and pray for our correction. One of the most meaningful parts of the day is the reading of the Book of Jonah. It is with good reason that this part of the Yom Kippur service is so significant. The Hollywood-style storyline of the book contains a message that if heeded, can lift humanity from the global sludge we seem to be submerged in and brighten our future.
Here is a short booklet about the High Holidays that I hope you will enjoy reading. Please also feel free to print it out and distribute in your community.

Advancing Toward Integral Reality

laitman_294.2A ten is all that exists in all of reality, in all the worlds. All of creation, which has evolved from the four stages of direct Light, is called one “ten.” Malchut of the world of Infinity, in which there are ten round Sefirot full of infinite Light, is a ten. There is nothing besides it. And the Creator is the Light of infinity filling this ten, Malchut.
Then this system of ten circles, the Sefirot, undergoes all sorts of changes. The program of creation transfers this ten from a round complete state into a fragmented one.
As if to calculate the integral when the continuous surface is divided into an infinite number of squares, the system of ten “circles” is broken to divide the work between multitudes of people, between all parts of the system, so that everyone will complete his or her private work and become similar to the Creator. After all, one cannot do all the work right away in one go.
The system is transformed from an “integral” to a “differential,” in which the work is performed in parts. Ten stages of work are distributed among the five worlds and are additionally divided more and more. Each of us performs some kind of work in his cell. As a result, all parts of this work are integrated again, combined into one integral work, like an integral from zero to infinity.
All these breakages, contractions, and descents are made in order to give each fragment its infinity in its completeness from its individual properties.
In the first state, it was impossible to do it because we were all interconnected in an integral, infinite form. It is impossible to shatter the created being that is opposite to the Creator so that it can attain the Creator from its opposite, antagonistic state and leave it “round.” After all, the circle is already perfection, a smaller or a bigger Creator.
Therefore, it is necessary to break this circle to give each fragment different properties, sides, angles, that is, restrictions. Now, from these restrictions, one must begin to attain eternity, perfection, integration, connection of all with all. This gives a feeling of the Creator and true perfection. It is impossible to get into the third state bypassing the second, the shattered one. This is all our work.
It is necessary to strive to get from state 1, through state 2, to state 3. Correction begins when a ten is organized and appears in front of us. That is, the correction began from Abraham, and now each of us at some point falls into a place where he has a ten. This is how the advancement toward the integral, true system of the upper force begins.
It is necessary to get used to this perception of reality. It helps one’s mind get over the feelings, like a patient gets an X-ray image that he cannot argue with—it is a fact, and he has to take medicine and get treated. This is an objective reality that is above our emotions and we must work with it.1

Suddenly, The Fog Will Dissipate…

laitman_294.3A lot of intelligent work is required in order to work above reason, much more so than work within reason. Working above reason does not presume that a person becomes stupid, disregarding his intellect; on the contrary, he rises above it. He understands everything, feeling, analyzing, and grasping everything, but in addition, he acquires yet another, even higher reason in the next degree, a step plus one. This is called “faith above reason.”
A person does not only know how to conduct actions. He understands where they stem from, why they are this way, what their internal mechanism is, and thus, this attainment obligates him to perform actions. He becomes smarter and doesn’t do anything without a reason, but searches for the root and the cause. This is “above reason,” meaning rising to a higher reasoning, and it is called “the view of the Torah,” when a person searches for how to activate the Light in which the mind and force of the entire creation can be found.
This is an ascent to a new degree, each time like a new creation. A person cannot do this by himself, but he can perform all the necessary actions that will cause such an effect from above, and suddenly new knowledge, feelings, and understanding will open up—the fog will dissipate. Therefore, it is said: “Everything that you find within your power to do, that do!”1
The mind is simply there to serve our egoistic desire, helping a person seek pleasure and avoid trouble, like an animal. Also, if a person understands that he acts within his egoistic desire and is unable to rise above it, then he wants, unlike an animal, to attain the mind of a human, Adam, that is, to be similar to the Creator. He then begins to act not for the purpose of fulfilling his desire for pleasure, but to become similar to the upper force.
This is a different level of existence where a person feels a different reality. He reveals that there is a network of forces of bestowal rather than reception operating in the world. He integrates into the system of connections between people and reveals all the connections in reality through it, a perfect and eternal system that works according to a single principle of mutual bestowal. And a person wants to belong to this network called the Creator.2

Rabash: The Last Great Kabbalist

Dr. Michael Laitman

From My Facebook Page Michael Laitman 9/13/18
On a cold, rainy night in 1979, I could not sleep, my thoughts troubled me. Suddenly I found myself at the wheel, driving without direction. A large sign cut through my thoughts: “Bnei Brak.” I went in. The streets were deserted. At the corner of “Chazon Ish” Street I ran into a passerby. “Where do you study here?” I asked. He looked at me and answered, “Drive to the end of the street, where you will see an orchard. It’s on the other side of it.”
This is how I came to meet my teacher for the first time, Rav Baruch Shalom Ashlag (the Rabash), the eldest son and successor of Baal HaSulam—the greatest Kabbalist of the twentieth century. From that moment on my life was never the same.
For the next twelve years I served as his personal assistant and disciple, and I absorbed from him everything that I know in the wisdom of Kabbalah. Every day he would lock himself up on the second floor and write. This is how his profound articles were born, which paved the way for anyone nowadays to carve the spiritual path most suited to them. No one before him had written in such a simple and practical manner. Like a father who guides his children along the path, he takes his readers by the hand and guides them until they discover the true meaning of life.
“And once I have acquired the clothing of love,” he wrote to his students at the end of the well-known letter “Love of Friends,” “Sparks of love promptly begin to shine within me.
“The heart begins to long to unite with my friends, and it seems to me that my eyes see my friends, my ears hear their voices, my mouth speaks to them, the hands embrace, the feet dance in a circle, in love and joy together with them…” (the Rabash).
After his departure in 1991, people who felt a burning desire in their hearts to reveal their purpose started coming together. Gradually, the Bnei Baruch Kabbalah Education & Research Institute was formed, named after Kabbalist Baruch Ashlag. Every morning we study the writings of the Kabbalists, such as The Study of the Ten SefirotThe Zohar with the Sulam commentary and the writings of Baal HaSulam and the Rabash. We work to share the method with anyone interested, just as my teacher gave me the wisdom of his father.
This evening marks the 27th anniversary of the passing of my teacher, the Rabash, the greatest of the generation. I hope that we will succeed in following his path faithfully.

New Life #1042 – Respect And Disrespect In Relationships

New Life #1042 – Respect And Disrespect In Relationships
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz
Summary
Love is a result of respecting the habits of others more than my own and conceding for the sake of connection. Disrespect deletes and harms the other. It destroys the confidence of children who need to be trusted to exist independently at times. Absolute love, on the other hand, leads to disrespect and even hatred. Relationships based on shared obligations are also difficult to hold together. The ironclad rule is “love covers all transgressions.”. In spite of differences, we concede during communication, we speak only about positive things, we think constantly about how we can express love toward the other. and we explain that we expect reciprocity.

Choose For Yourself: To Die Or To Be Born

laitman_276.01We are all trapped in this world like in a submarine with no way out: either we will kill each other or everyone will annul their egoism and the submarine will expand and turn into a new world.
At first, this place seems horrible, dark, and cramped. Yet, if one annuls one’s egoism, Malchut, and relative to it increases Bina, then this dark, oppressive place becomes a mother’s womb.
Then it will expand even more, transforming into an entire world since we are adding Malchut to the properties of Bina, as a result of which Bina expands boundlessly, embracing the entirety of reality. We begin to constructively use the powers of Malchut and Bina, bringing Malchut to the likeness of BinaMalchut, which becomes similar to Bina, amplifies bestowal 620 times.
I discover in the tight, oppressive place a governance that is opposite of me and is demanding me to bend, to annul my egoism. I am unable to do that. I scream and pray, but in the end, I nevertheless find the strength for it. Then, in this self-annulment before the force of bestowal, I see how good that force is.
Prior to it, I did not see its goodness. It seemed to me that there is nothing good in bestowal, that only receiving is good. However, out of desperation, after finding myself in a confined, dark, horrible place, as if buried alive in the ground, I decide to change myself in order to enter a new world.
After all, a grave is the same as a mother’s womb. I perceive it as a grave until I find the force of Bina there and identify myself with it. Then it transforms into a mother’s womb.
I have ten minutes in this grave until I suffocate from lack of air. The only way out is to quickly find the force of Bina and transform the grave into a womb. I have to make every effort in order to find that “There is none else besides Him,” which brought me to this state and is concealed within it. I must establish a connection with Him in order to start using the desire to bestow and thus develop in the new world.

To Obtain The Common Soul

Laitman_115.04Question: What is the difference between the state when I attach other parts of the common soul to myself and the state when I become attached to them?
Answer: If I attach other parts to myself, it means I am the upper one for them and I am obliged to take care of them as the upper one. I have to receive their desires and pass fulfillment to them.
If I become included in them, it means I am the lower one. Then I annul myself and receive from them something they fulfill me with. I do it without any criticism, like an embryo in its mother’s waters.
The perfect work within the corrected net in the final correction means that I receive from all and give to all. Then I obtain the whole vessel of the common soul in its entirety, from zero to infinity.

New Life #1041 – Living In Sync With Nature

New Life #1041 – Living In Sync With Nature
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Tal Mandelbaum ben Moshe
Summary
The human ego brings us into conflict with nature. Mothers don’t want to breastfeed, children grow up separated from their homes and families, and technology confuses us with fake news, etc. We need to reach the recognition of evil in order to advance toward an understanding of what nature demands from us and to overcome the confusion we find in today’s world. The truth is found in nature, which shows us the need to be connected to a family first and then to expand the connections from there. We must begin to consider that everything around us is for the good of humanity. We need to learn how to use technology and other forms of development for the benefit of every individual rather than the monetary gain of a few.

My World Is A Collection Of Desires

laitman_423.02Question: Kabbalists call everything desires. Even scientists have a hard time understanding when you explain that a table is also a desire and that everything we see around us are desires.
Answer: Of course, any object is a certain kind of desire, that is, a collection of atoms that exist in a corresponding connection with each other. But in what form does this table exist? In the form of desire. It is felt in my desires, and nothing exists except for this.
Question: What does “in me” mean? I can see the table outside of me.
Answer: It seems to you that you see it outside of yourself. In fact, you feel it in yourself. Even stars or other huge bodies you feel in yourself, not outside yourself.
Precisely because there are inanimate, vegetative, animal, and human desires in you, you feel them inside yourself in various combinations and call them “my world.” Outside yourself there is nothing except for the forces that affect and bring about such pictures in you. Everything that you now feel around you exists within you.

Love For The Creator Is Love For The Quality Of Bestowal

laitman_565.01Question: Are there any signs that the Creator is getting nearer?
Answer: Answer yourself: “How much you can cultivate this force, this quality, between you?” You create the Creator, as it is written: “As though you have made Me.” Only this way and in no other way.
Question: But you say that it is not in person’s power to perform this commandment?
Answer: When we, the egoists, try to connect with each other, we begin to ask that our attempts will be realized—this is when we turn to the Creator. However, this is not the Creator yet, rather just an external force that gave birth to egoism, and therefore, by trying to become similar to it, we can withdraw it from the side of egoism.
Question: What is “love for the Creator”? What exactly do we love: the quality of bestowal or something abstract?
Answer: It is about the quality of bestowal, just as in our world we can love, respect, and praise any quality that exists in nature, in society, and in people. We attain love for the Creator as the manifestation of love for our neighbor.
Question: Where is the border between love for our neighbor and love for the Creator at the highest degree?
Answer: When a particular neighbor is blurred and disappears, then the Creator emerges instead of him. In fact, it is the same thing.
Question: Is the love for the Creator and the spiritual world the same thing?
Answer: The spiritual world is the field of bestowal and love. Our world is the field of reception and hatred. The world is a field of forces: either negative (our world) or positive (upper world).
The attainment of love for the Creator implies a spiritual attainment.

New Life #1040 – Equality In Relationships

New Life #1040 – Equality In Relationships
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Tal Mandelbaum ben Moshe
Summary
Equality can only be realized if there is love because a person who loves the other also cares for him. In an egalitarian society, people will look for how they can benefit others because they will act out of the correction of nature, the correction of the ego. The ego feels deprived and makes demands for equal resources and equal rights. In the future, every person will look for how he can give to others instead of how to get for himself. In order to reach this type of society, a new education is required. People will begin to feel like organs in one large body and immediately help any part or person in need. This higher knowledge of love will govern our lives and our relationships. We will judge everything as a mother behaves toward her children, each one is different but all are loved.

To Come To The Commandment Of Love

laitman_249.01Question: Can we depict our three-hour morning lesson as one big prayer that includes 612 commandments? We are constantly turning between them in order to come to the commandment of love for our neighbor.
Answer: Yes, consistent fulfillment of the commandments means that we climb the degrees of Jacob’s ladder.
The constant expansion and deepening of egoism in us happens to ensure that we implement connection with each other at greater and greater levels. Every time egoism increases, we perform the commandment of connection on it, up to the love for each other.
Question: Are there 613 commandments at each degree?
Answer: Of course. But we don’t need to consider this because we are originally created this way; our soul’s vessel consists of 613 parts.
In performing 612 advices (Eytin), I receive the influence of the upper Light, which corrects me. It is called Pkudin (from the word “Pikadon – deposit”). In this manner, I constantly fulfill and correct, and again fulfill and correct.
Question: Does the division between 612 commandments and the 613th commandment also exist at each degree?
Answer: Yes, because the 613th commandment does not exist on its own, I am incapable of fulfilling the commandment of love. I cannot be forced to love the other. If I, by fulfilling 612 commandments, receive the upper Light upon my desires, then I become loving and bestowing.

The Difference Between A Congress And The Daily Lesson

laitman_284.05A kenes (convention) is a kinus (gathering) where we want to be in the sensation of a single system, and the feeling of that gathering depends on the extent to which each one gives strength to it and acts in connection for everyone, then everyone receives the reward from that. I don’t think the daily lesson covers the congress, both in terms of the quantity and quality of people participating, and also in terms of us not scrutinizing the things as we do in a congress. In a congress, we act only in a positive way to increasingly awaken unity, whereas in our daily lessons, we have the line of criticism. That is the main difference between a lesson and a congress.
Other than that, in a congress, there is a gathering in quantity, not just quality. You have many people gathering together for two to three days in an effort. We will see how we can activate that effort in a virtual congress. On one hand, there is this direction to connect, and on the other hand, it is all more internal and virtual.
It is all organized to us from above where according to what we learn now—what is true connection, where is it, where do we measure it—we also see that it comes to us from above where we even don’t understand exactly what a virtual congress is. Until we reach it, we see exactly it is specifically suited to our state more than a physical congress.1

JNS: “‘Tikkun Olam’ In The New Year 5779”

Jewish News Syndicate published my new article: “‘Tikkun olam’ in the New Year 5779
(September 13, 2018 / JNS) “I wish all my Jewish friends in Iran and Jews worldwide a very happy new year filled with peace and harmony,” said Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. “Despite all the challenges the Jewish people have faced, their strength and perseverance continue to inspire us all,” U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted.
But among the dozens of blessings for the Jewish New Year by various leaders, that of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo touched a main point: “Tikkun olam is the Jewish principle that teaches us that while the world is often imperfect and broken, we have a shared responsibility to fix it.”
World leaders are right to shed light on the unique role of the Jewish people, and especially with regards to the concept of tikkun olam (“correction of the world”). According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, that will only happen when we first repair the relations between people.
At a time when humanity’s interdependence is tightening and showing itself as the basis of all our human-made systems, there is a dire need to build new relationships of mutual consideration among all people. In fact, the numerous crises we are witnessing in all areas of life point to a terrible lack of healthy and positive connections between citizens of the world.
So what is the role of the Jewish people in light of today’s escalating global crisis? Some will say that the Jews are causing it, while others say they hold the key to tikkun olam. The wisdom of Kabbalah explains where both views emerge from.
The Jewish people were formed as a result of the first global crisis that afflicted humanity. Some 3,800 years ago, between the banks of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers, in a desert region near present-day Iraq, humanity lived in great clans in Babylon. They lived together as kin until that relationship was shattered. The egotistical desire increased within the Babylonians, made them quarrel with one another and led to severe crises in all spheres of life.
One of the Babylonian priests named Abraham wondered about the nature of the deepening social rift. He discovered that it stems from a natural and inevitable growth of humanity’s egoism. In other words, Abraham discovered that tikkun olam is nothing other than a correction of the relationship between people. He wandered among the various tribes and clans, and called upon anyone who felt the need to build a new society.
The Babylonians who joined Abraham learned how to build healthy, positive and correct relationships, above the growing egoism. In time, the group grew into a new people: the people of Israel. Thus, the Jewish people were founded from a collection of representatives of humanity’s past civilization. The common denominator between them was the value of tikkun olam—the discovery of unity in diversity, and choosing mutual concern over mutual exploitation.
It has a ripple effect, spreading from the inside out. The Jewish people are essentially the first circle. They are a mini-model of humanity, a model of universal connection between people. That connection is destined to spread and shape the other circles around it.
At the peak of this process of tikkun olam, humanity reaches unity beyond borders, across the globe. That is, unity of the broadest circle that encompasses all of humanity—from world leaders to sheep herders in remote mountains. The correction must reach every man and woman, and every boy and girl. Everyone is equal, everyone is important; there is no preference and no discrimination.
In our time, the first step towards tikkun olam is raising awareness around the globe to the need for unity. Every person in the world must recognize the natural, integral system that binds us and requires us to be considerate of each other.
The Jewish people carries the idea and must reawaken it. Its role is to be as “a light unto the nations,” by being an exemplary society. Today, the nations of the world also have a duty to awaken the people of Israel to its role as a catalyst for tikkun olam. And just like the cordial greetings of leaders around the world, it is better to experience friendly and positive pressure from the world, rather than the hateful and anti-Semitic kind of pressure.
However, when it comes to tikkun olam, we should not expect salvation to come from leaders and rulers. The change will begin with the masses. It is not for nothing that the modern world became connected through the Internet. The virtual connection between millions of people enables us to raise the awareness of unity in a positive way and bring about tikkun olam in pleasant ways.
When masses of people consider the value of connection, even slightly, they create a tremendous wave of mutuality and consideration. The power of connection is greater than any individual, and it enables human society to rise above its narrow, egoistic nature to discover a vast space of happiness that stems from unity.
Tikkun olam begins with tikkun adam (“the correction of man”). A tiny change of consciousness in each of us is all that is needed. And if you still lack a clear call to action, share this message with everyone.

New Life #1039 – Taking Responsibility For My Feelings

New Life #1039 – Taking Responsibility For My Feelings
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Tal Mandelbaum ben Moshe
Summary:
All that surrounds me is a theater that exists in order to help me correct myself.Every person represents a part of my inner qualities and attributes that I have not yet corrected. The responsibility for my feelings is in my own hands even though I may sometimes feel that others are treating me badly. With good will or bad will, I shape my image of the world. My freedom of choice is to treat everything and everyone in reality as myself, with love. I must reach love for all people and for the Creator, which is the general power of nature.
