Who Should Be Educated First?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: At what age should the education of a person begin?
Answer: Future parents should be educated first and they should continue their education for eternity. By the time a child is in kindergarten, it is too late to educate him or her if his parents have not received a proper education.
A child’s path to understanding the concept of “creation” should start before his birth. Future parents, even prior to meeting, should know why they are getting together, why they will bear children, educate, and raise them. This system of knowledge influences the future child because it precisely coincides with the development of the fetus in the mother’s womb, which develops according to the same integral laws of assembly from the mother’s substance.
The understanding of the world’s harmony by parents creates harmony in a child by influencing his or her physical, emotional, and spiritual health.
Question: Why doesn’t a person feel the lack of education?
Answer: Because it obligates a person and we do not want to take any obligations. It hurts our ego, our desire to rest, to sleep, to have fun” “Is it not enough that I educate my children? Do I also have to educate myself and educate my wife?”
Question: Nonetheless, we do many things in life, which we do not like, but we see some benefits in them and do them anyway. What is the benefit of this education?
Answer: Tremendous benefit! The benefit is obvious even to an ordinary person. He just does not know how to do it right.
Question: Are there examples of good education in the history of human development or in our time?
Answer: I personally do not see such an example except the one of our small Kabbalistic society. The overwhelming majority of our children enroll into the university at the age of 14-15.
That speaks about how they are educated. They are taught to study systematically, become scientists, specialists, seek knowledge, and acquire proper communication skills with each other. They are educated in circles, which allows them to feel mutual support and build a solid, united, and friendly society.

A Child That Has Been Brought Up To Bestowal

Laitman_511_01Question: What will happen if a child who has been brought up with building relationships of bestowal finds himself in an ordinary egoistic environment? Will he be laughed at and hurt by others?
Answer: No, a child who has been brought up to bestowal knows how to behave properly everywhere. Such children don’t get lost. On the contrary, they get along and become mediators in society, and egoists feel they need them. Moreover, they gradually soften the society they find themselves in.
Question: Does that mean that they become leaders in that society?
Answer: No, they become the vital connecting element.

Purpose Of The Mixed Multitude

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe implementation of the Torah starts from the fact that while reading it we begin to understand what it is calling for and what it represents, and then we move on.
Comment: But there is great resistance to it.
My Response: It is not resistance because everything comes from the broken desires that remained the same desires but without a screen, which counteracts egoism and raises it to its inverse state, that is, to the level of bestowal and love for others.
First, egoism should be revealed as a demonstration of its nature, a demonstration of evil. Naturally, at this stage, Kabbalists receive many obstacles that haunt them and are revealed as evil.
This also happened during the exodus of the people of Israel from Egypt. After all, it isn’t a stroll in the Sinai desert, but an escape from our egoism, separation from it, and elevation above it. Therefore, the desires that are called Egyptian were practically killed within a person. Pharaoh himself agreed to this and released them.
However, the so-called “mixed multitude” (Erev Rav) didn’t release them. These are people who think that they have another, more correct Torah. As it is written, they are “God-fearing servants of Pharaoh.” They are characterized by a dual state, when they, while being in this world, at the same time, wish to earn the next world—paradise, for their egoistic work.
“Tell us what to perform in this world without correcting ourselves,” this is the work of Pharaoh. Pharaoh says, “Why do you need all your problems? Work, do whatever you want. Pray, act, everything is open to you. The only thing that you shouldn’t do is correct yourselves. All the rest is in front of you; you will be respected and honored. You will possess the entire world.”
Unfortunately, or I would say, to great joy, our goal is to achieve connection with the Creator, integration and full equivalence with Him. It’s not just to perform physical commandments, movements, actions, and to consider that we will obtain this or the next world, or both worlds together for doing so; it is to rise to the state where we don’t need any rewards.
We want to receive the upper Light of correction that returns to the source, to the Creator, and to become fully equivalent to Him when we won’t have any personal desire left in us. It’s not that we pretend or don’t understand it because it manifests in us more and more, but we receive greater and greater strength to work against egoism from the upper Light.
In this case, we ascend 125 degrees to the level of the Creator. This is the implementation of the Kabbalistic method. Therefore, the main problem for those who don’t agree with advancement to the Creator in this world is the problem with the wisdom of Kabbalah.
It is necessary to do everything in order to reveal this wisdom to the wide circles of the Jewish people and the nations of the world. Baal HaSulam in the article “Messiah’s Shofar” writes that Kabbalah should be spread around the world even before the people of Israel begin to master it.
He calls to penetrate into it gradually, and then we will understand the need for it. After all, even Pharaoh understood what the realization of the method of correction of humanity is, and therefore he let the people of Israel out of Egypt. But it came to him with great difficulty, through heavy blows.
Therefore, obviously, now the opponents of Kabbalah dissemination will also receive big blows, and we must distribute it as widely as possible.
This is not an easy task with many challenges on our way.
Question: So, do you believe that the Kabbalists couldn’t confine themselves to the internal work alone?
Answer: No. During the exit from Egypt and also now, the “mixed multitude” (Erev Rav) will persecute people departing from Egypt (from their egoism) and rising to the correction. This is the army that Pharaoh sends after the Jews. His soldiers think that they are protecting the sanctity of the Torah and so they, by all means, prevent the spreading of Kabbalah.
In fact, the mixed multitude is the most ardent opponent of the ascent of humanity to the level of the Creator.
Question: The mixed multitude wanted the people to stay in Egypt. So why didn’t these people stay there, but instead they followed the others when they started to exit Egypt?
Answer: No, they stayed at first. But when they saw that the people already approached the Red Sea (Yam Suf), they chased after them. Without them, the people wouldn’t have made the crossing because they were afraid to go further when they approached the Red Sea.
Here they were supposed to rise by faith above reason, to put themselves into the power of the Creator, to make the first inclusion into Him. And in this they received help precisely from their pursuers who came very close to them.
This is when Nachshon was manifested, the special force that pulled everyone after it. However, if it were not for the negative force of the mixed multitude, the people of Israel wouldn’t be able to make the crossing.
The most important contradiction between them is: is it necessary to fulfill the Torah not for one’s sake, not in order to receive some material privileges, but only for the sake of one’s neighbor without any reward? If they agree to this, they are obliged to break through the Red Sea, and the so-called mixed multitude helps them in it by sharpening the problem. Then the conquering of the method of elevation to the Creator starts.
Unfortunately, the mixed multitude follows them and constantly spoils their lives. All the problems come only from it. In particular in the desert it incites the people to make the golden calf.
This is the force that must be corrected gradually, understanding that everything is done only by the upper force, and we need to interact correctly with all the obstacles that it brings to us in order to direct us to the correct goal. Therefore, all the obstacles have a clear direction, showing us how to advance.

Cling To Eternity

Laitman_025_01The Torah, Deuteronomy 23:14: When you sit down outside [to relieve yourself], you shall dig with it (with a stake), and you shall return and cover your excrement.
Question: Why one must cover his excrement?
Answer: All human waste, including the deceased body must be buried in order to undergo a complete circuit.
As a result of the person’s life everything should rise, and the body waste and the body itself, from which all spiritual energy disappears after death, remain only on inanimate level and therefore should be liken to earth.
In contrast to the traditions of other nations that embalm mummies, the Jews immediately buried the dead body so that it would rot. It was considered correct since animalistic body symbolizes egoism that remains from the former person. It has to dissolve and turn to ashes by completely disintegrating into constituent parts.
The living matter gradually descends to the level that is truly inanimate. Some Jewish communities even had a custom to put lime into graves so that body would decompose quickly.
Question: Does it mean that attitude to the body should be purely biological?
Answer: The body is worth nothing, it must die. In our world, we should use it only to the extent that it is required for the spiritual ascent. It has no other value.
If you have an opportunity to correct some level of your body, you should correct it. If it works for the general correction, then do it, go to the doctor, take medicine, and so on. The attitude to the body must be purely mercantilist so that it would give us an opportunity to cling to eternity while we still alive.

Feminine Element

laitman_600_02Question: According to the wisdom of Kabbalah a man is composed of two parts, masculine and feminine. What is the significance of the feminine element in a man?
Answer: The feminine element in a man is the force that drives him from within to search, to spiritual flight. Why does the feminine element give a man a lift but not to a woman? It is because she is pushing his masculine part. But in the feminine element, the desire to receive, there is no masculine element.
Question: If so, is the feminine part of a man more important?
Answer: The feminine part is more important everywhere. If Eve had not existed, we would exist as amorphous spiritual matter.

Why Isn’t The Wisdom Of Kabbalah Considered A Religion?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why isn’t the wisdom of Kabbalah considered a religion if it speaks about the upper force, about the Creator?
Answer: It is because the wisdom of Kabbalah explores and studies the upper force like a physicist who explores and studies the physical forces in our world. The wisdom of Kabbalah explores and studies the next layer of nature, the physical forces of the upper world.

Only Education

laitman_539Question: What measures should be taken when dealing with negative social behaviors such as stealing, aggressiveness, or violence toward others, and so forth?
Answer: No measures should be taken, except for education.
According to the Torah, humanity should not use any punishments accepted in society today such as sending a person to prison, and so on, and instead, only educate people.
A person who has broken the law should be given a certain task, and if he performs it, he does not have to be punished.

What Does It Mean To Be A Kabbalist?

laitman_182_02Question: From your personal experience, what does it mean to be a Kabbalist?
Answer: To be a Kabbalist means to live a double life: on the one hand to be found in particular relationships with the people around you, including family, students, if you are a teacher, and so on, and on the other hand, one is in internal contact with the higher force.
As a general rule, this contact shatters everything that a person feels in our world, yet in spite of it all, he is forced to live in two worlds. It is up to him to clarify his inner states with the Creator constantly, and he must simultaneously be in contact with those around him. This is the double life of a Kabbalist.

There Is Nothing Superfluous In The World

laitman_561Torah, Deuteronomy 23:05: …He [the people of Moab] hired Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor in Aram Naharaim against you, to curse you.
Question: Bilam was hired by the Ammonites and Moabites (the desires that can’t be corrected) in order to curse Israel. However, at the same time, the people of Israel were already heading to the Creator. Is it possible to associate this with today’s Israel that still must be forced to move forward?
Answer: We can’t compare ourselves with the Israel that once was ascending the spiritual ladder. After all, this is the movement through an internal spiritual desert.
Bilam is a prophet that has connection with the Creator. He understands what Israel is and acts naturally and clearly according to the command of the Creator, like everything else in the world. Therefore, we need to respect this force even from the opposite side, meaning from the side of impure forces. Although from the negative side, Bilam represents the force through which the Creator rules the world. It means that He rules the world exactly through our impure desires in order to pull a person “by the ears” from spirituality.
He resists, he wants to reach spirituality, but he is dragged away more and more. Then, when his “ears” are stretched to the limit, he is suddenly released and flies directly to spirituality. This is useful.
This is precisely the work of Bilam. He intentionally goads a person to criticize, to think that everything is not the way it is, and so on. The left line must exist in parallel with the right line, and between them we build analysis and synthesis of all possible states through which we begin to understand how the universe is organized.
Question: Does it mean that Bilam in a person makes him advance even faster?
Answer: Probably not faster, but this is a necessary state in a person, when he denies the Creator, wants to rebel against Him, and doesn’t want to consider anything, egoism in him rises so much that he wants to rule the entire world. This happens to every person.
Here it is about the same actions on the higher levels. Therefore, the force of Bilam is necessary for the correct analysis of the entire path.
Nothing superfluous was created in the world, everything depends only on the extent that we will correctly work with these forces. Everything is just for our correct advancement. Thus, it is necessary to eliminate intention of the desires called Ammonites and Moabites (meaning for oneself), and the very desires to begin correcting to bestowal.

When Will Terrorism Come To An End?

Laitman_408Question: Recently, IDF soldiers recently killed the military commander in the Gaza Strip. Consequently, the Palestinians are threatening to retaliate with acts of terror saying that they will not leave us alone. How long can this go on?
Answer: This will continue until the nation of Israel begins to fulfill its historical mission.
We have the method of correction for all of humanity and our role is to bring it to the best and highest state, but we are not fulfilling it and so we invoke all these negative forces of nature.
Question: Are you promising that all this will stop, that our enemies will disappear and turn into our friends, if we begin to fulfill our mission?
Answer: That’s the only way. What is more, everyone will help us. Hamas and its military commanders will come and say: “Tell us what we should do.”

Theresa May, Anti-Semitism, and Europe

laitman_426In the News (YNet News): “LONDON – British Prime Minister Theresa May delivered a staunchly pro-Israel speech Monday during which she declared her government’s unwavering support for Israel, proclaimed her unequivocal opposition to boycotts and reiterated her commitment to expunging anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial from British society.”
Answer: I have no illusions about Theresa May and the British, both in the past and in the present. They burned Jews in their synagogues. I’ve seen all these places.
We must accept the fact that nature affects everyone: by their anti-Semitism, they affect us because we are “stiff-necked people,” that is, stubborn and unwilling to correct ourselves.
For Theresa May, it is only a political move in order to relate numerous problems to Europe. She says: “We support Israel, we are against all polls,” in order to counter Europe, which voted for anti-Israel UN proposals.
So, there is nothing new here, it’s pure politics. The British are widely known as good politicians. But internally, they have not changed, of course. Moreover, they are unable to change. They can be changed only by the people of Israel if it begins to fulfill its historical mission.

Men And Women: You Must Reorganize Our World

laitman_721_3Question: How and when must a woman be seriously involved with the wisdom of Kabbalah if so many tasks are imposed upon her: work, family, a husband, and children?
Answer: We need to reorganize our world so that men will earn enough money for what the family needs to exist and women will be able to stay at home, deal with family matters, and educate the children, herself, and her husband. The man must engage with work only to support the family and to study the wisdom of Kabbalah.
Question: Do you believe that there will be a turn in this direction in the world?
Answer: Nothing will succeed otherwise. What will we do with billions of unemployed, with people who are not needed? With what will they be involved?
They must be taught and educated. Gradually, they will create normal families who will be compatible with the spiritual root. Without being compatible with the spiritual root, we will not reach the completion of correction, neither physically nor spiritually.

Hawking Warns About A Threat From Outer Space

laitman_747_04In the News (The Guardian): “’We come in peace’ might be the traditional opening gambit for aliens in science fiction, but we should be wary about beaming back a response to any advanced life-forms in real life, Stephen Hawking has warned.
“Our first contact from an advanced civilisation could be equivalent to when Native Americans first encountered Christopher Columbus and things ‘didn’t turn out so well’, he cautioned. …
“It is not the first time Hawking has warned about the prospect of hostile aliens. Launching the Breakthrough Listen project, which will scan the nearest million stars for signs of life, last year he suggested that any civilisation reading our messages could be billions of years ahead of humans. ‘If so they will be vastly more powerful and may not see us as any more valuable than we see bacteria,’ he said.”
My Comment: If there were an extraterrestrial civilization that existed that possessed such high technology, accordingly it would also be on a higher level of thinking and social order. In fact, all structures of social development will develop in parallel and determine the levels of development of each other.
According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, no other civilizations besides this one on the face of the Earth exists in nature! Our universe fully reflects the higher system of HaVaYaH, from which it follows that we are alone in the universe and must bring the entire universe, the levels of the still, vegetative, and animate, to complete connection specifically uniting reasonably on the social (human) level.

“And They Shall Fine Him One Hundred Shekels of Silver”

laitman_592_01Torah, Deuteronomy 22:19: And they shall fine him one hundred [shekels of] silver because he defamed a virgin of Israel, and he give it to the girl’s father. And she shall be his wife; he shall not send her away all the days of his life.
A person wants “to marry,” wants to develop his desire, to see its offspring, all kinds of various fulfillments and pleasures. And suddenly he understands that he cannot do anything. He can’t follow this path and overcome this desire. It is not his and it is completely alien to him.
He wants to enjoy life, and this desire calls him to something else, indicates that he must move toward the Creator, renounce his pleasures and plans. He doesn’t want such a desire, such a wife. Yet, he must correct exactly this desire that manifested in him in such an egoistic way. Later he’ll have to return to it and correct it.
However, now he ascends and enters into contact with the next level, although he paid a hundred silver shekels for it, meaning, he received a decent punishment in front of everyone, such as shame, various fears, and hatred.
Thus, he connected to the next higher level, and without this renunciation, he wouldn’t be able to just take his desire and start correcting it. It is the escape from correction that is a necessary condition before he can take care of it and correct it.
There is nowhere to run! Therefore, we see how humanity is slowly being pushed into difficult conditions, and we from our side develop our method more and more, make it closer to humanity, disseminate, and will certainly meet with them somewhere. This is the law of our development.

JPost: “Comment: Is Judaism Racism?”

The Jerusalem Post published my new article “Comment: Is Judaism Racism?
Through their unity or lack thereof, the Jews determine whether hatred or love of others will prevail the world over, and the world relates to them accordingly.
Just recently,Thomas Lopez-Pierre, who is bidding for a seat in the NYC council, said, “Greedy Jewish Landlords are at the forefront of ethnic cleansing/pushing Black/Hispanic tenants out of their apartments.” Zionism has already been accused of racism, but today we are seeing the argument that Jews favor only their coreligionists gaining more and more turf.
It makes sense to think of Judaism as a racist religion. After all, we are regarded as “a people who dwells apart, and will not be reckoned among the nations” (Numbers 23:9). Throughout the ages, we have been defined as “the chosen people,” “a light unto nations,” and other depictions that set us apart from the rest of humanity. But is Judaism itself racist? Does it aspire to subordinate other nations? Does it demand to convert non-Jews to Judaism? Does Judaism assert that being Jewish grants prerogatives that are not to be given to people of other faiths?
As we will see, the truth is to the contrary. Judaism means more commitment and more demands from its own adherents, and not from anyone else. Instead of requiring the subjugation of others, it requires the commitment of Jews to serve humanity.
Unity that Matches Enmity
Throughout the ages, numerous scholars and people of faith have wondered about the meaning and purpose of Judaism. Cambridge historian T.R. Glover wrote in The Ancient World: “No ancient people have had a stranger history than the Jews. …The history of no ancient people should be so valuable, if we could only recover it and understand it. …Stranger still, the ancient religion of the Jews survives when all the religions of every ancient race have disappeared … Also, it is strange that the living religions of the world all build on religious ideas derived from the Jews. The great matter is not ‘What happened?’ but ‘Why did it happen?’ ‘Why does Judaism live?’”
To understand Judaism, we must go back to its beginning, and connect it to its final purpose. Some 3,800 years ago in the area known as the Fertile Crescent, humanity was taking its baby steps toward becoming a civilization. At that time, Babylon was the ruling empire and governed the lush lands between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
Even then, problems began to appear. People’s vanity began to take its toll as the Babylonian Empire and its king, Nimrod, tried to build a tower “whose top will reach into heaven” because they wanted to make a name for themselves (Genesis 11:4). But instead of a tower, writes the book Pirkei De Rabbi Eliezer (Chapter 24), the builders grew so hostile that they “wanted to speak to one another but did not know each other’s language. What did they do? Each took up his sword and they fought each other to the death. Indeed, half the world was slaughtered there, and from there they scattered all over the world.”
To counter the Babylonians’ enmity toward each other, the Patriarch Abraham realized that they must cultivate a matching measure of connection and unity. He understood that in creation, everything is united, and the apparent contradictions actually complement one another and form a perfect whole. Abraham also realized that if the Babylonians knew about nature’s wholeness they, would stop hating other people and would, instead, cherish the diversity and benefit from it.
Immediately after his revelation, Abraham began to circulate his concept, or as Maimonides describes it in Mishneh Torah (Chapter 1), “He began to provide answers to the people of Ur of the Chaldeans [Abraham’s city in Babylon], to converse with them and to tell them that the path on which they were walking was not the path of truth.”
Even though King Nimrod confronted Abraham and demanded that he would stop circulating his ideas, Abraham insisted on continuing until finally Nimrod expelled Abraham from Babylon. As the expat wandered toward what was to become the Land of Israel, writes Maimonides in Mishneh Torah (Chapter 1), “Thousands and tens of thousands assembled around him. He planted this tenet [of unity] in their hearts, composed books about it, and taught his son, Isaac. And Isaac sat and taught and warned, and informed Jacob, and appointed him a teacher, to sit and teach… And Jacob our Father taught all his sons.”
These three patriarchs of Judaism gave it its essence: Unity is the remedy for hatred. When hatred increases, do not push it under the carpet, but acknowledge it and nurture unity to match it. In the succinct words of King Solomon (Proverbs 10:12): “Hate stirs strife, and love covers all crimes.”
It follows that Judaism does not derive from geographical or biological affinity, but rather from an ideological perception that unity is the key to solving every problem. The Hebrew word Yehudi [Jew] comes from the word yihudi [united], writes the book Yaarot Devash (Part 2, Drush no. 2). In other words, the only criterion by which one can become Jewish is one’s acceptance of the principle that love must cover all crimes, and unity must be the basis of all human relations. The myriads who joined Abraham came from all over the Fertile Crescent and the Near and Middle East, and they were all welcome as long as they followed the law of unity.
The Antisemites’ Keen Perception
The Hebrews suffered just like everyone else from the intensification of the ego. The only difference between them and the rest of the nations was that they had decided not to fight each other when hostility increased among them, but rather to increase the love between them. While our ancestors often succumbed to fierce and often violent internal conflicts, in the end, they always remembered what they must do and how to achieve peace. This is why The Book of Zohar writes (Beshalach), “All the wars in the Torah are for peace and love.”
When we achieved a sufficient level of unity, we became a nation and were immediately commanded to be “a light unto nations,” to convey what Abraham had wanted to convey to the Babylonians in the first place. The great kabbalist Ramchal wrote that like Abraham, both Noah and Moses wanted to complete the correction of the world in their respective times, but circumstances prevented this from them. In Adir Bamarom (Mighty One on High), Ramchal wrote, “Noah was created to correct the world in the state that it was at that time. At that time there were already the nations, and they will also receive correction from him.” In The Ramchal Commentary on the Torah, the sage writes about Moses: “Moses wished to complete the correction of the world at that time. …However, he did not succeed because of the corruptions that occurred along the way.”
The nations, too, recognized our unique role as bearers of redemption, though very few connected redemption with unity. It was actually the most satanic detractor of Judaism in history, Adolf Hitler, who was among those who did connect Judaism with unity. In his hate-filled composition, Mein Kampf, Hitler wrote both about the unique fate of the Jews and about the importance of their unity. “When over long periods of human history I scrutinized the activity of the Jewish people, suddenly there arose up in me the fearful question whether inscrutable Destiny, perhaps for reasons unknown to us poor mortals, did not, with eternal and immutable resolve, desire the final victory of this little nation.” Concerning Jewish unity or lack thereof, Hitler wrote, “The Jew is only united when a common danger forces him to be or a common booty entices him; if these two grounds are lacking, the qualities of the crassest egoism come into their own.”
Another notorious antisemite who observed the unique quality of the ancient Jewish society was Henry Ford. In The International Jew—the World’s Foremost Problem, Ford wrote, “Modern reformers, who are constructing model social systems, would do well to look into the social system under which the early Jews were organized.” Ford wanted to take an example from the Jews, but since they are apart, he resorted to their ancestors, the “early Jews.”
Since the ruin of the Second Temple due to hatred, the Jews have been immersed in hatred. They have forgotten the principle that love covers all crimes and let hatred govern their hearts. But since they are intended to be “a light unto nations,” the world blames them for every act of hatred that unfolds anywhere in the world. Jews may not know that they have the key to ending hatred, but the world senses it and demands this of them.
The greatest commentator on The Book of Zohar in the 20th century, Rav Yehuda Ashlag, wrote in the essay “Mutual Guarantee”: “The Israeli nation had been constructed as a sort of gateway by which sparks of love of others would shine upon the whole of the human race the world over.”
Rav Hillel Zeitlin also stressed the importance of Jewish unity for the correction of the world. In Sifran Shel Yehidim he wrote, “If Israel is the one true redeemer of the entire world, it must be qualified for this redemption. Israel must first redeem their souls. …But when will this world salvation come? Is it now that this nation is immersed in bickering, fighting, and unfounded hatred? Therefore, in this book, I am appealing to establish the unity of Israel. …If this is established, there will be a unification of individuals for the purpose of elevation and correction of all the ills of the nation and the world.”
Double Standard
One of the criteria to determine whether a person is antisemitic is “double standard.” That is, people are tested as to whether they judge Jews and Israel differently from everyone else. If we are to be honest, we should admit that everyone, even Jews, judge Israel and Jews differently from all other nations. This “double standard” is written in the scriptures, and every person in the world feels that Jews are different.
Jews are different but they are not racists, since authentic Judaism dictates that anyone who subscribes to the idea of unity above hatred is regarded as Jewish. Yet, Jews are definitely unique.
Currently, because Jews are not “a light unto nations,” meaning they are not spreading the light of unity, the world hates them. If the Jews return to being what they were when they became a nation after committing to unite “as one man with one heart,” the world will view them as the most valuable nation on the planet. Through their unity or separation, the Jews determine whether hatred or love of others will prevail the world over, and the world relates to them accordingly.
No other text sums up this message as clearly as this excerpt from The Book of Zohar. In the portion Aharei Mot, the book writes, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is when brothers sit together. These are the friends as they sit together, at first they seem like people at war, wishing to kill one another. Then, they return to being in brotherly love. Henceforth, you will also not part … and by your merit there will be peace in the world.” Let us do what we must do.

Blessings For Great Victory Day!

laitman_539Dear Friends,
The great holiday of May 9 is a special date for us. This is the day of the great victory over the most evil forces in the history of humanity. The same forces that wanted to enslave the world tried to accommodate their religion to the policies that were introduced by them. A terrible darkness enveloped Europe and didn’t let any one of the peoples live.
We must not forget it. We must celebrate the day of victory every year. It is not important if it is celebrated in different nations at different times as the date of freedom for every nation from slavery. May 9 is a big holiday for us. We hope that we understand what the evil forces celebrate in our world, how the people of Israel exactly can limit and isolate them from humanity and make a happy, secure, and safe future. This depends only on us. So for us May 9 is not just the day of the end of a great and terrible war, but also a reminder that it is up to us to prevent future wars. And this is in our power, the wisdom of Kabbalah makes this possible for us. It is only up to us to learn the method and to realize it in life.
I wish for all of you a good mood, success and happiness! Together with this, don’t forget that today we are facing the same problems that also existed many years ago and it is up to us to solve them quickly. All this begins from tomorrow but for today, I bless everyone on the great May 9 holiday!

The Nuances Of The Term “Friend”

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why do Hebrew speaking Kabbalah students call each other “companion, comrade” (“Haver in Hebrew) and not “friend” (“Yedid” in Hebrew)?
Answer: In Hebrew, there are two terms: a “comrade, companion” (Haver) and a “friend” (Yedid). But a “friend” is a buddy, a pal, while the word “companion” is derived from the Hebrew word “Hibur” or connection, link.
Question: Why is it said, “And you shall love your neighbor” (Leviticus 19:18), meaning that one shall love the other and not the “companion, comrade”?
Answer: This is because a comrade or companion is someone who is close to you ideologically. In Hebrew there are many synonyms for the word “friend,” which are used according to one’s relationship with another person.
Hibur” (connection) is above them all, it expresses a mutual aspiration towards the goal for the sake of which two people connect with each other. “Neighbor” is a person who is not particularly close to you, but you have a particular connection with him. The “other” is someone outside of your ego whom you want to draw closer to yourself. A “friend” is a pal, a buddy, and there is also an acquaintance (“Mekir” in Hebrew).
All of these words as if illuminate the level of closeness between you and another person. The wisdom of Kabbalah is a unique language, everything that relates to the spiritual ascent of a person is divided into thousands of levels, and everything else is not.
Comment: But Rabbi Akiva in his famous saying, “And you shall love your neighbor as yourself” used the word “neighbor” and not the word “companion, comrade.”
Answer: Once you love a person he can already be called a “companion, comrade” for this is a higher level.
Question: What is the meaning of the saying, “And you shall love your neighbor as yourself”?
Answer: To the same degree that my ego loves itself, I must rise above it to love the other.

A Question From Prison

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: I will spend the rest of my life in jail. I’m trying to forget what I did, but I cannot. What should I do?
Answer: You don’t need to forget anything. You shouldn’t think about it at all. Our students teach the method of integral education in prisons. Try to tune into what is being taught and fully immerse yourself into this wisdom.
You will rise to the next level of your existence and will not feel that you are in prison. On the contrary, you will feel free and that the rest of the world is imprisoned.
I advise you to do this. This is an amazing state.
You will thank the Creator for having committed all these misdeeds. At the end of the day, it was not you who did it, but the Creator who thereby gave you this opportunity to now calmly attain the upper world.
Therefore, you can transform your prison sentence into true freedom.

A Sense Of Humor In Men And Women

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Who has a more developed sense of humor, men or women?
Answer: Men do because men consist of two parts, male and female. Whereas women consist only of the female part. Women’s imagination  is directed towards corporeality, while men’s goes beyond it.
Therefore, men are great dreamers, romantics, writers, good chefs, chess players, and so on. How many women work in high tech, where new discoveries and inventions are being made? Not many. Mostly these are men. But women prevail in other things. And we must accept this division with respect because one cannot exist without the other. So take care of both women and men.

A Married Woman

laitman_627_2Torah, Deuteronomy 22:22: If a man is found lying with a married woman, even both of them shall die the man lying with the woman and the woman. So shall you clear away the evil from Israel.
The man symbolizes intention and the woman—the desire. A person begins to work with a desire that he cannot correct. Therefore, the entire process is dead and doesn’t have any continuation in the future.
Question: Yet, she is a married woman, does it mean that she is someone’s desire?
Answer: But a person hasn’t yet clarified whether this desire applies to him. After all, the whole analysis happens gradually, and whatever is bad on one degree, can be good on another degree. There the opportunity is already given to fulfill, investigate, and correct everything.
A married woman that is unfaithful to her husband is a desire that can’t be corrected with the help of the intention, with which a person is now working.
Let’s say I have a certain desire and the intention doesn’t match it. It is either less, more, or totally different in character, while between them there must be a clear match, which is determined by the upper Light at the degree above these men and women. Such a state must be preceded by a so-called spiritual marriage contract.

New Life #662 – Extremism Or Mutual Complementation

New Life #662 – Extremism Or Mutual Complementation
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz
Summary
Instead of arguments between the left and the right wings, we need to learn where nature is leading us. The solution must include everyone. We connect above our personal views, and the more they differ, the more intense and more qualitative the connection between them is.
