Question: How is it possible to convert to being a Jew in your understanding?
Answer: In my understanding, to become a Jew means becoming a person who yearns for unity of all people in the world under the umbrella of love for others.
The Jews are a people founded on the basis of the concept, “And you shall love your friend as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18). There is nothing else in Judaism. It is written in the Torah that the great general and essential rule is “And you shall love your friend as yourself.”
The term “Jew” is created also from the word, “Avar” (Hebrew, to pass). When the person passes from an egoistic perception of the world to an altruistic perception of the world, he becomes a Jew. So each one can be a Jew even if he is German, French, Spanish, etc. It makes no difference whom. Being a Jew is the ideological affiliation, not biological.
Question: Does this mean that you don’t attribute significance to innate Jewishness or affiliation with Judaism?
Answer: Congenital Jewishness obliges us to immediately proceed to carrying out their mission in the world.
And all the other people will reach this to the degree that we Jews awaken them. This is called being a “Light to the nations.”
